BOURNE VIEW

SNRG has supplied a SmartGrid to power climate-positive affordable housing and community buildings on behalf of the Hook Norton Community Land Trust (HNCLT) in Oxfordshire, England.

Background

HNCLT purchased a piece of unused land owned by Cherwell District Council to deliver affordable housing.

They teamed up with Greencore Homes, who built 12 climate-positive houses and apartments to Passivhaus standards.

The development was designed by Charlie Luxton, renowned TV presenter and sustainable architectural designer.

The site was also to include a new community centre, cafe and two motel rooms.

The existing sports centre next door to the development already had a large solar array, but could not use all of the energy it previously produced.

Solution

SNRG supplied a SmartGrid solution for both the residential and communal facilities.

SNRG integrated the sports centre into the SmartGrid, so that the excess solar could be used by the homes or stored in the battery.

This reduces the cost for the sports centre and residents.

SNRG has also installed five new EV chargers, powered by the SmartGrid, for a communal car club.

Results

The project, which also involves leasing eight homes for rent to SOHA Housing, is a shining example of innovation, sustainability, and community engagement.

It has been shortlisted for two Unlock New Zero Awards for Collaboration of The Year and Innovation of The Year.
