THE MALABAR

We created a genuine beach bar experience at The Malabar, named after the Malabar district in India, where pepper originated. At our bar, you will not be pestered by staff with our most expensive whiskeys, though we do have them. Your eardrums won’t implode from 12-inch subwoofers playing copy bands; our relaxing tunes are kept low. The Malabar is Cassia Cottage’s Phu Quoc beach front bar. Created in the spirit of our spice trader’s retreat, The Malabar is a tranquil space on Ba Keo Beach, serving curated cocktails and craft and draught beer. Southwest India’s Malabar Coast is home to historic seaports on the route of the original spice traders. The Malabar Coast is also the origin of white pepper. And so at Cassia Cottage, in honour of one of the origins of pepper, our spice-trader founder named our beach bar in Phu Quoc, The Malabar. Just as it did on India’s Malabar Coast, at Cassia Cottage’s The Malabar, connection comes first. Unwind to scintillating sunsets and converse at shared tables and beachfront benches while sipping spirited renditions of the classics, or our Phu Quoc original cocktail creations, instilled with the same balance of flavours, and infused with the same spices, as at our nearby restaurant, The Spice House. Or enjoy a snack from The Malabar menu, served up by our Spice House chefs. At The Malabar, our gentle background music lets the sound of the waves lapping the beach take centre stage. The Malabar is the best bar in Phu Quoc to unwind and witness the island’s sunsets.
Here you will find the only functional pool table on the beach, and there are also board games and cards to share. We serve any cocktail you want, so ask the bartender for your favourite. Our draft beer is local and really good, and bottled beers range from light Saigon lagers to more serious Belgian dark ales.
If you are feeling hungry or peckish, order tasty items from the menu, such as our own-seasoned pure meat sausages, or home-made burgers and sandwiches. Sunset is the only television experience – and it comes on an all natural screen. Come have a sip, a slug, a shisha and a home-made pure sausage. Operating times are seasonal, usually from late October or early November to May.
The Slow Life At The Malabar
Embrace the slow life at The Malabar,
beachfront bar. Whether accompanied by family, friends, your partner or travelling alone, expect to be greeted with the same impeccable sense of warmth and hospitality that is a trademark of stays at Cassia Cottage. At The Malabar, besides our curated cocktails and craft and draught beer, we also serve a menu of beach bar classic cuisine such ashomemade meat sausages, burgers and sandwiches. At Cassia Cottage’s The Malabar, slow is all we know.\
Spirited Mixology At The Malabar
The Malabar’s spirited mixologists have also created our Phu Quoc beach bar beverage menu to include a range of beers – from local brews to Belgian draughts. You can also test their expansive knowledge of cocktails with off-menu requests. While you sip on our selection of beers or our curated cocktail menu, or something bespoke, dive into our collection of board games, or throw down with a round of darts.
Sunset Happy Hours
At Cassia Cottage’s The Malabar, the most important connection isn’t Wi-Fi. Our convivial Phu Quoc beach bar, just like Cassia Cottage, stays deliberately quaint. Strike up a conversation with our mixologists or your neighbour at the bar, as you enjoy the slow life on Ba Keo Beach. As the sun prepares to set, and disappear beyond the Gulf Of Thailand, we celebrate with a daily happy hour, between 17:00 – 18:00
