Voody, the Original Watchover Voodoo doll, is having a not-so-good day. You see, Voody is sad that he is sometimes called names like “scary,” “meany,” and “creepy” even though his personal mission in life is to bug those who make everyone’s lives difficult. So he decided to talk to some of his friends and ask them what they thought, after all they’re also Watchover Voodoo dolls and probably have been called some of the same names.
Voody started on his way and first came across his good friend, Nursia the Nurse. “Hello there,” said Voody to his good friend the nurse. “I need your help and I’ve got a question for you. Does anyone ever think your scary or mean or creepy?” “Of course, all the time. Sometimes people think of us as little evil Voodoo dolls when we’re actually thoughtful and friendly and watch over people. Every day I help good people work life saving miracles on a few hours’ sleep, all done in comfy shoes. So you see, I’m really an angel in disguise!”
Voody thanked his friend for her encouragement and continued on his journey. He soon came upon his bestest friend, Besty. “Besty, tell me something, do you ever feel like people don’t like you because you’re a Voodoo doll?” Besty replied, “Ha, that funny. Not at all. I help BFFs laugh at random things and make weird faces together. That’s why I have so many friends!”
Voody smiled and continued on his journey until he came upon his old coach. “Coach, great seeing you,” said Voody. “I know it might be a crazy question, but do you ever feel like you’re not good enough because you’re Voodoo doll?” Coach looked at Voody and said, “I can see why some people might think Voodoo dolls are kind of crazy, but my job is to help train others for success. And it’s a big job watching over people sometimes.”
Voody gave his old coach a high five and went along his way until he bumped into his friend Hugsy. “Just who I was hoping to see today,” said Voody. “You’re always hugging people and there for them when they need a shoulder to cry on, when no-one else really understands. Certainly, you don’t think you’re a scary Voodoo doll?” Hugsy walked over to Voody and gave him a big hug and reassured him that Watchover Voodoo Dolls have a big job to do watching over others.
Voody felt even better after talking to Hugsy. And just as Voody started to head back home, he saw his friend Uni the Unicorn flying by. They stopped to talk for a few minutes. And before Voody could say a word, Uni the Unicorn smiled at Voody and reminded him that he’s one of a kind and to never let his sparkle go unnoticed. It was at that very moment that Voody realized that he wasn’t scary, mean or creepy and that he and all of his Watchover Voodoo friends had big jobs to do protecting and watching over everyone.
