"I have a hate/love relationship with social networks. We are submerged every day by a thousand information, so many that you can not even catch them, but we still continue to ask for more. I also do not like the fact that most often they provide us with a distorted image of reality; on social media everything must appear perfect and the truth is always filtered. I like to share my life and my adventures as they are, with their positive and negative aspects, successes and failures, highs and lows, otherwise we would all turn into "super heroes" with a perfect life.�

That's how Jacopo Larcher answered to one of the questions we asked him in our interview on this issue of The Pill. His point made me reflect a lot, especially because it comes from a young modern mountaineer. On our smartphones we are constantly bombarded with notifications, nowadays thousands of images flow under our thumbs, often without a real content, there's not a real storytelling behind of each of them. We seek and want perfection, an easy happiness, to achieve a goal without the slightest effort. We are losing the awareness that to achieve a result there is a lot of suffering and often also a lot of failures. We are losing the awareness that to win we must first lose.

team based in Munich. Dirk Ostertag is the new sales manager for the Europe, Middle East and

Africa markets. Ostertag has been working in CamelBak since 2016 and has already dealt with important brand accounts. Previously he served as commercial director in Speedo, part of the

Oberalp group. His responsibilities will include increasing the brand's presence in European mar-

kets and supporting distributors. Sebastian Ohrmann is the new marketing manager for EMEA and APAC.

company based in Carlsbad, the first manufacturer of golf equipment in the United States. The selling price is estimated at about 476 million dollars. Jack Wolfskin currently distributes its products in about 900 franchised stores and over 4,000 stores. In the last financial year closed on September 30th it had a turnover of 380 million dollars for an EBITDA estimated at 40 million.

52% of its revenues come from the Central European market and 21% from China.

TREK BIKES: THE SECOND LIFE OF CARBON FRAMES Thanks to the carbon fiber, bicycle manufacturers are able to realize lighter, faster and more efficient components. But what happens to a prototype or a frame that is at the end of its life? Trek, which annually produces about 27 tons of scrap, has found a better solution to the landfill. Already in 2010 it started a partnership with Carbon Conversions, a South Carolina company, to support an extraordinary recycling technology that discern raw carbon from other materials such as epoxy resin and paints. The final result of the process is a pre-shaped carbon shape that includes applications of all kinds: sub-structural components for automobiles, boat hulls, and sunglasses.

A challenging document that envisages, as an initial objective, a 30% reduction in aggregate greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and draws up concrete measures for decarbonisation in production phases, the choice of sustainable materials, and low-impact transport modes. Under the aegis of the United Nations, 40 brands have joined forces including Adidas, H&M Group, Levi Strauss & Co., Puma and textile associations such as Business for Social Responsibility, the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, the Outdoor Industry Association and Textile Exchange.

The Californian company has responded by "restoring the environment" to the entire amount, or by allocating it to associations committed to the defense of the planet. This decision was made known by Rose Marcario through a post on her Linkedin profile, in which she repeatedly emphasized the dissent against the current government. The donation is added to the funds periodically allocated to NGOs and funding in favor of organic regenerative farming movements, in addition to that 1% of the profits that each year Patagonia gives to activists and environmental associations in the countries where the same company is present.

IN 2019 OSLO WILL BE THE FIRST CITY WITHOUT CARS Oslo no longer wants cars in its streets. After the agreement between the main political parties to prevent the sale of petrol and diesel cars by 2025, the municipality of the Norwegian capital has called a new crusade against the four wheels. The goal is to ban all cars in the city center by 2019. Electric, hybrid or powered by fossil fuels.

The administration aims to make Oslo a "car free" city by removing the parking spaces. The parking areas, freed from the encumbrance of the cars, could be converted into restaurants, theatres and recreational areas. A transformation that could potentially lead to a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions.

Different names to indicate the same thing?

In reality there are some differences. And being able to distinguish the various ways to keep water away from your clothes has become even more important today and can really make the difference. Until recently, all Gore-Tex products had a guaranteed impermeability, but with the launch of the new Gore-Tex Infinium product line, things have changed. This collection has been designed for times where comfort and versatility have priority over water resistance.

Water resistance on the other hand, does not offer the same 100% impenetrable protection as a "waterproof" product, but in reality you don’t need such complete protection every day or for every activity.

The garments of the Gore-Tex Infinium line are "water resistant" and therefore offer protection and comfort in a variety of conditions and situations. They are ideal for running even when the wind rises, or in light rain conditions.

Jackets with Gore-Tex Infinium Windstopper technology, for example, as well as being totally windproof, are water resistant and therefore perfect for everyday wear. They therefore have the capacity to resist to water for a period of time that is more than sufficient to perform many activities, but not indefinitely.

A storm in the mountains, a sudden downpour in the city or an unpredictable weather. All the original Gore-Tex garments are "waterproof". Water repellency instead, can be considered as a complement of the two previous properties. All Gore-Tex jackets, for example, have a water-repellent outer surface. In addition to the integrated membrane that guarantees its impermeability, these jackets are in fact equipped with an outer layer that has undergone a treatment (DWR) that transforms water into drops that do not penetrate into the fabric.

They therefore possess the ability to repel water by transforming it into drops that slip away, allowing the outer layers to remain dry. The water repellency of a garment, however, must be taken care of over time and to do this you need some precautions and a series of instructions for washing and for care of the products themselves.

This membrane has billions of pores per square inch, each of which is 20,000 times smaller than a single drop of water. This is why it is impossible for water to penetrate. In addition, these pores are 700 times larger than water va-

Grown Skis Regenerative Design

Adopting a sustainability policy is no longer just useful, but more necessary than ever for companies operating in the outdoor sector. An area born to give space to the impulse of man to explore and be in contact with the environment can not, in fact, ignore that the natural environment has to be respected. It is no coincidence that the outdoor sector is at the forefront in terms of environmental sustainability and policies aimed at preserving the environment and in recent years we have witnessed an important change of direction for many companies operating in the sector.

This is the challenge that pushed Tobias Luthe and Jan Reger to start "Grown" more than 10 years ago, a small company born in the German Alps with the aim of creating outdoor products, designed with a regenerative design approach inspired by nature.

Grown is an Outdoor Creativity Lab in which new sustainable technologies are experimented to be applied to the production of skis and freeride gears thinking about the product system and, therefore, also about the design of the production/cultivation phases of the materials used in the construction of equipment and their re-use at the end of life. The principle behind the design process is exactly this: as in Nature there is no concept of waste, so in the products developed by Grown each output of a process becomes raw material and new life for other processes, according to a circular approach.

However, the adoption of a truly sustainable approach that is able not only to reduce environmental impact, but to guarantee the virtuous transition from a linear production model to a circular model, is not that simple.

Creative inspiration often takes place during the long days spent on the Alps to ski or hike, letting yourself be stimulated by the natural environment in which you are immersed. Over the years, several expeditions have been organized around the world: from the Arctic to Japan to Kamchatka up to Svalbard with the aim of bringing together different knowledge ranging from environmental and forest sciences, to design, to industrial production processes in order to develop prototypes of sustainable solutions that can then be introduced in the outdoor sector for the upscaling and improvement of conventional products and services.

In 2008, Grown won the ISPO eco-design award with a pair of skis that used 60% mass of biobased materials, 70% of which made from certified wood, basalt fiber, recycled high density polyethylene and an epoxy resin innovative, made from pine resin.

The project development was based on an LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) analysis that assessed the environmental performance of different conventional ski models, with the aim of identifying areas for improvement to achieve a more environmentally friendly ski. The Grown skis, presented at ISPO 2008, had a 27% lower carbon footprint* than traditional skis.

have been rewarded with the ISPO 2018 sustainability award and are currently being tested to kick off production planned for the first few months of 2019. The most interesting part of the MonViso Edition project consists precisely in the use of resources grown in places where skis are produced and used. The particular pine-based resin will allow the recovery at the end of life of the main components that make up the ski, with the possibility of reusing them and recycling them into new processes, activating a circular model able to connect strongly to the biosphere.

This first success led to the birth of Grown as a company, developing, producing and selling skis with the lowest Carbon Footprint on the market. Since then Grown has started a process aimed at continuous improvement with the goal of becoming the reference point and the leader in sustainability in the ski sector.

Recently, experimentation has led to the design of an innovative ski composed of a compound made of hemp fibers and paulownia wood, grown at the MonViso Institute in the Piedmont Alps. A new milestone was reached that led to a further 20% reduction in the Carbon Footprint compared to the first model in 2008 and an about 47% reductio compared to traditional skis.

The new Grown MonViso edition represent a step forward in terms of sustainability and performance and are born with the aim of contributing with a concrete response to the environmental problems that a shortsighted economic/productive system has generated in the last century. “And in the end, it's a completely different feeling skiing in the forests and on uncontaminated slopes with a pair of skis that responds to the beauty that we find in the mountains and that are able to give something back to everything that the alpine environment offers us.�. Christoph Engl Oberalp Ceo Oberalp is a company, a colossus that puts social responsibility and the importance of sustainability first, and those aspects are experienced as part of the Oberrauch family culture.

Over the past six years, the headquarter of Bolzano, which thinks and acts at 360° to be as sustainable as possible, has saved 38% in terms of energy.

he social responsibility of this company goes beyond treating only issues that need to be faced, but pushes to discuss new problems, such as the one of micro plastics. We interviewed the new CEO of the group, Christoph Engl, also called the man of the brands, a brand builder with international experience and expert in alpine destinations because of his love for the mountains.

and will allow me to take better care of my personal friendships. Then I am now near to the mountains that have always fascinated me and led me to practice all the possible sports, except for paragliding that has been forbidden to me by my wife many years ago!

What do you think is the most important aspect of being the new CEO of a solid group like Oberalp? I come from different work experiences that until now have not yet touched sport and commerce. This allows me to have a perception of the company and the sector almost as a stranger. At the moment I read the company as if it were a book and every day new chapters and unpublished aspects open up. After reading that, we will start with all the managers of the company management to think about what will be the next necessary step for the Oberalp group to bring the company to the "next level". I already sense that now we are going to focus even more on the themes and skills that are important to us. If you want to be a strong brand you must grow with awareness, not with the intention of expanding into fields that are not of your own competence.

Watching it from the outside, what do you think about the work of the Oberalp group during all these years? The company is in excellent condition, it is now an important name in the sector and it is considered the home of leading mountain brands and despite being family owned, it has developed as an enterprise with international vocation. Oberalp is a firm and constant reference point when the outdoor sports world speaks about leadership.

How has your life changed after accepting the position of the new CEO of the group?

After many years spent abroad that forced me to be away from home and away from my family for more than 200 days a year, now the Oberalp headquarters is only 1.5 km from my home. This brought me closer to my family

panies to support the study on how to be able to reduce the phenomenon of micro plastics. It is a subject we will deal with in the future although it is not yet a problem for everyone. We must understand what is the impact that our products have and will have on this aspect and how to look for possible solutions to eliminate the causes of the problem.

What are the challenges that you would like to reach by 2019? We would like to strength the culture in the company that being a brand means to refrain from wanting to do everything possible. We would like to align all our sales channels so that our client perceives us as a single interlocutor. Make it more perceptible to the end customer that the brands of the Oberalp group are very committed into making their products valid for sustainability.

What is the way to obtain an increasingly "green" production chain? It is only possible if a company like ours does not limit the necessary actions in a department. Our five women, experts in CSR and sustainability, must raise awareness of the topic in all departments of the company and in all the people who work in or with the Oberalp group.

Thinking and acting in a sustainable way must become an natural logic in every decision taken or to be taken regardless of the levels and responsibilities. Sustainability if let alone and not experienced, if desired and not understood, if considered a subject for selling and not an ethical and social value, can not develop. It takes conviction and culture that must start at the top and must be taken into every single corner of the group. Being "green" or wanting to be conceived as "green" is just marketing; I would like to talk more about social responsibility that the Oberalp group has chosen as a guideline for strategic decisions.

Do you foresee the entry of new brands that will become part of the group? In just 10 weeks I have been offered four major brands to acquire - and they are very big brands - I understand therefore that the sector offers many opportunities for growth through purchases. We are carefully evaluating whether a new brand could enhance our existing mountain sports brand portfolio. I do not exclude anything as I do not promise anything.

It is a role of great responsibility, but how will you manage to reconcile the group's growth with the issue of sustainability? I don’t see how one should exclude or prejudice the other one. Our group already by tradition and family culture does not speak of expansion if this one does not take place according to a growing responsibility towards people and the environment. We also evaluate the growth that will make our products more durable over time, closer to mountain traditions, which have always been far from a "disposable" culture.

An important aspect for Oberalp is sustainability, but how will you further seek to reduce your social and environmental impact? 80% of our mountain clothing fabrics are certified by "bluesign" and "Oeko-Tex" as free from dangerous chemicals. It will be our concern to bring these numbers towards the 100%.

In addition we will pay attention to use less and less waterproofing treatment that contains PFC, the 65% "PFC-free" share will certainly increase.

You’ve talked about micro plastics, a fundamental topic to face, could you tell me something more? What will you do about it? We are collaborating with a group of com-

Maybe you had the chance to see these "flying girls" speed through Milan.

They are Najla, Sofia, Fatima, Lorraine, Micol, Arianna, Francesca and Greta.

The all female crew activated by Nike that runs through the streets of the city with the slogan #weflymilano. Young, strong but above all very fast, these girls come from different backgrounds.

They have only one thing in common that makes this group so close: running. We had a small talk with Fatima, a twenty years old "politics and economics” student at the Università Cattolica of Milan, who gave us some sneak peeks of the crew and brought us a bit in her daily life divided between running and what a normal girl usually does nowadays.

* Hello Fatima. Tell me something about you.

I have always been very active since childhood, and I could not even stay sat at the table during meals! My first true approach to running has been during middle school, with the 5 Mulini student run: after that I felt tired and satisfied, a combination that from that moment on has become indispensable for me.

I also love singing and speaking in English, they always put me in a good mood. Another thing that makes me feel good is food, I'm very greedy and it’s a bit hard for me to follow a strict diet.

Unfortunately I am also a very loud person, but in my defense I can say that that’s what happen when you grow up in a house with 6 brothers and sisters. To be honest, I’m also moody, but in my favor I must say that my zodiac sign is cancer, dominated by the Moon.

How is your typical day? Every day is different. I do not have a meticulously elaborate routine and I like it that way, the important thing is to get to the end of the day having done everything I had to do.

Usually I don’t use alarm clocks, because I get up naturally after about 8 hours of sleep and because I honestly find them also highly traumatic, they remind me of when I went to high school! Also, as I said, I like the feeling of doing things in a hurry. It gives me the perfect adrenaline rush to start the day.

For breakfast I often eat a toast with coconut oil and brown sugar, a must also when I'm late! I love both tea and yogurt, depending on the fruit that I choose to eat that morning. Lunch is always a meal "on the go" for me: I rarely can have lunch at home, much more often I prepare a lunch box made of rice and chicken, fish, vegetables and crackers etc. All healthy foods, which are also good cold.

Overall my days are very different from each other: lectures at the university, training, study and work are arranged every day at different times. The common thread of every day is definitely the rush, running. Dinner is the only meal that I do calmly and during which I have try to eat healthier. And when I go to bed every night to organize the next day, a nice hot herbal tea on my bedside table can’t miss.

You’re part of Flying Girls Milano crew.

Everything started in May and it is the best thing that has happened to me this year so far. I already knew some of the girls while the others I met them later, but we linked immediately. We

are all very different, but having many common goals in both in sports and in life, we get along perfectly.

Nike is making you live a lot of incredible experiences thanks to this project, what was the most exciting one? The most exciting was definitely the Berlin marathon! We met a lot of interesting people with a passion for running and challenged other very strong crews. We made a huge cheer at the Nike cheering point at the 36th km and we could not help but get the creeps when Kipchoge passed in front of us.

It seems that your crew has a lot of fun while running, what would you say to those who think that running is boring? You can say anything about running but not that it is boring! It gives you new feeling and they’re always different. The secret not to get bored is to focus on the details: the noise of your shoes on the ground, your breath, the surrounding environment.

What is your favorite running shoe? And what instead your outfit and your favorite color for running? My favorite shoe is the Pegasus 35 from the new Nike Run Utility Collection, cushioned at the right point, waterproof and with adjustable laces that never loose while you run! My ideal outfit for this season are definitely thick tights with fancy prints, thermal shirt and a hooded wind jacket! As for the colors, I love them all from the brightest to the darkest.

Do you run listening to the music? As much as I am a music fan, I prefer to run without music My favorite type of music is R&B that has a pace more suited to relax rather than running, then I prefer not to listen to music while running because it distracts attention from my feelings and the environment around me.

So what do you usually think about while you're running? I am a person with a thousand thoughts per second in mind, but while I run I always try to put into practice mindfulness, so I try to concentrate in that given moment only and exclusively on the act I am doing, it is a type of meditation that I really like.

What and who will be Fatima in the future?

As a child I dreamed of becoming a singer and I invented a thousand imaginary occasions in which to perform. Growing up and living certain experiences, my dream has changed. Now I dream of becoming a good mother: a patient, loving and extremely strong woman.

“What is time?�

This is the question that afflicts not only physicists all over the world, but any living human being.

I

t is important to be able to use your time in the right way, protect it and give it value.

Maybe it's the real key to achieving happiness, so they say.

Snow, Ice and Rock intertwine and merge into something more intricate: an intense emotion, a physical effort, a cry of joy, or, why not, a long silence. Just one thing is opposed to these elements, a "back to the reality" in the urban jungle.

Yet, in all that disorder, it seems almost to see a harmonic art, made of color and movement.

For those who deeply live their passions, time is reduced to the infinite instant in which, during that passion, you immerse yourself and get lost in a different, ephemeral but real world. In those moments the time, deep down, does not even exist, does it? You could almost say that time is "now", it is the instant in which nothing else except us exists, in which a new world, so evanescent and fragile, takes shape.

Mattia Felicetti, Martin Dejori, Janluca Kostner, Samuel Zeni, Alex Walpoth and Michael Piccolruaz are the protagonists of this mini series, divided into four episodes. Samuel Zeni and Alex Walpoth are the protagonists of this third episode, together with the breathtaking landscape of the Cinque Torri, a small mountain range belonging to the Nuvolau group, inside the Ampezzo Dolomites, just outside Cortina.

Climbers know this very well.

In the exact moment when they take their feet off the ground a dance begins, made of nice gestures to the holds and small steps on tiny crystals. These are parts of a time-no-time in which there is no future nor past: only the present exists. One present after another. As far as we know, in those moments, time could also flow backwards. You would probably not even notice it and, even if you did, it would not matter to you. What is certain is that there they are and they are alive: they are pure energy.

Sameul Zeni, born in Val di Fiemme in 1989, is an aspiring mountain guide. Alex Walpoth, born in Ortisei in 1994 is an aspiring mountain guide and a medical student at the University of Innsbruck.

Both have a highly respected mountaineering curriculum: for Samuel the first free climb of the "Road to the Last Tsar" on the first Pala di San Lucano and the opening of the "Pilatro Bianco" route on the third Pala di San Lucano, while Alex opened the "Via degli Studenti" and the "Ricordi nebbiosi� routes, two new itineraries of more than 1000 meters in the Civetta chain.

Behind of Hielo Norte CalzeGm Adventure

will never forget that moment when we left the muddy bank of the Rio Exploradores.

It was late March and had been flooding for days, a river in flood that was bubbling filthy between the banks covered by an impenetrable forest. The current had immediately catapulted us towards the Pacific Ocean: our kayaks were overloaded with gears and food for two weeks of complete autonomy. We could not have been imagined what we were going to face even though we had minutely studied the satellite images of the fjords behind the icy ice sheet of the Hielo Continental Norte.

At that time we could only intensely live the present and ride the huge waves trying to avoid the biggest eddies and trees carried by the current.

I was with my friend Silvano in the heart of the Chilean Patagonia to discover one of its wildest corners. Together we have climbed a thousand mountains in the past but this time we wanted to get in the game with a means of transport that has always fascinated us: the kayak, used for ages by the Inuit of Greenland, and that still today it is surprisingly the same. Our kayaks weighed only 15 kg and had an aluminum skeleton and a plastic skin, in order to be folded for transport.

Thanks to the current we quickly traveled for several kilometers until we found, at the mouth of the river, a suitable place to land and camp. The forest around was a green wall dripping with water. It was raining hard and non-stop. We were in one of the rainiest areas on the planet.

Leaving the estuary of the Rio Exploradores, we cruised south along a long fjord. The mountains fall vertically into the sea. We realized very soon that there was no place for us. We just could get off the kayaks for

short breaks on the rocks only at low tide.

Finding a place for the tents was really difficult. Often during the night the water rose and reached our shelter: we slept in watertight suits always ready to leave.

After a few days we entered the San Rafael lagoon. On our left there was a giant glacier sinking into the water, releasing innumerable icebergs. Some had strange forms of dragons, others, made of very ancient ice, were so transparent and looked like crystals, others again were a shade of blue never seen before. We sailed among sparkling floating sculptures, and moved in ecstatic silence, kidnapped by the magnetism of the ice.

The southwest part of the lagoon touches the Isthmus of Ofqui, a strip of marshy land that prevents navigation between the northern and southern fjords of Patagonia.

For the Indians living in these regions it was not an obstacle, since they also moved with relatively light canoes. In the 1950s the Chilean government decided to cut the Isthmus with a canal: the project soon collapsed in those remote waters but still today the sign of the excavation remains, which is really more like a muddy ditch than a navigable canal.

As we were Indians, we also dragged our kayaks with our knees in the mud, opening a gap in the vegetation under a grey leaden sky. Those were only some kilometers of "portage" and yet, when we reached the new waterway, it seemed as we just came out of a grueling struggle.

The Rio Negro honors its name: we put the kayaks back on the water on an ink bed. It was nice though, the river run slowly and we had plenty of time to enjoy the view. Then the wind brought us the smell of the ocean. There was a supernatural calm when we landed on a huge beach, in front of the Golfo de Penas. Big waves touched the dark beach with a slow and quiet rhythm. We were alone, euphoric for the inexpressible beauty in which we felt immersed.

We sat on a dune with the Pacific Ocean in front of us and suddenly we found ourselves tired, tired of wandering for days and hours, tired of eating freeze-dried food and always being wet. That evening, in the curtain, observing our path on satellite images, we decided that it is time to turn the bow to the north.

Going up the Rio without the help of the tide proved to be a nightmare, also thanks to a sudden hail storm: it fell over us like a slap of water and ice that forced us to cling to the shore. It was so violent that we couldn’t even talk to each other, we just hanged there closed in our tight suits, alone with our thoughts, huddled in the kayak.

Going back was psychologically more difficult, because of the lack of motivation that usually pushes you towards the goal. We proceeded too slowly and we were forced to spend a night in the swamp. With the tent mounted on a floating island between the quagmire and the nocturnal mists, we fell into a deep sleep.

I stood outside the tent distracted by a dream I had already forgotten. A hummingbird flew fast by me as I watched the grebes slip into the water that looked like molten metal.

We had to go back on our liquid road. While we were sailing into the fog, Silvano sang mountain songs, perhaps to make us feel less isolated from the world.

We crossed the Laguna San Rafael again.

This time we walked along its eastern edge, passing right in front of the glacier. We were very worried, even sailing at a safe distance.

We cruised with extreme caution, trying to guard the best passage between galaxies of blocks of ice: it was a concert of crunches and booms. Every time a bigger piece came off the front of the glacier, a thunder shook the air while a huge solitary wave spread rapidly throughout the lagoon, hitting the coast and the floating ice.

Then the calm returned, broken only by the cheerful passage of a formation of squawking black-necked swans.

It was raining, like every other days. We loaded the kayaks for the last day of navigation. Our arms moved by inertia, our stomachs empty, the beards longer. The current was always upstream. Were we really moving forward or was current dragging us back? Travelling on the water we have learned that the movement, the direction, the length of the travel itself belong to a less certain dimension than one we are used when on the mainland. Perhaps the Lagoon didn’t want to let us go. I confess that even today I hear the water calling me and who knows, maybe one day I will want to listen to it again.

hat’s what Gianni tells us: it was the vision of some photos of the Ptari-Tepui, a mountain with a unique morphology and enigmatic charm, a plateau with vertical walls of sandstone rock over a granite slab that rises for 2400 meters above the sea level in the area of the Gran Sabana, located south-east of Venezuela, to ignite in me the desire and the unconscious call. That day, in the now far November 1984, during an evening with friends where the imagination runs, thinking of climbing the Ptari-Tepui already seemed to be done, as if Recoaro Terme (VI), our starting point, bordered with Venezuela.

We know that crazy ideas sometimes happen to be inexplicably followed, so much that within a month, favored by the interest of Sergio Pozza and Francesco Bertoldi of CTS Vicenza, with my friends Paolo Asnicar and Wladimiro Savoldo, we were ready to go, and that happened on December 7th.

days of travel not without difficulties and uncertainties, towards the Canaima National Park, we reached the village of Kavanayen, in the state of Bolivar in Venezuela. We spent a few days in the village whose name, in the language of the PemĂłn Indians, means "place of the roosters of the rocks", trying to understand in which direction to move, as a persistent fog occulted most of the surrounding hills. However, we did not obtain any precise indication, the same request for infos made to Father Tirso, head of the mission, did not give the desired results, indeed the friar deterred us with insistence from trying to accomplish our adventure.

But that did not bother us at all and despite the adverse conditions, we prepared the backpacks with the climbing gears trying to store also the maximum amount of transportable food, crushing even the bread to reduce its volume. The path with the jeep allowed us to overcome without a hitch a long stretch until we reached a river that forced us to abandon the car and continue on foot wading the river itself. The thing was not easy, the current was impetuous and the water came up behind us, so I decided to pull a rope from one side to the other so that in the passage the current would not drag us away with the backpacks.

The info we had about the area where to arrive and the same location of the Ptari were not entirely certain, while our recklessness was our only certainty, even though in Caracas we knew we could count on the help of Guido Olivieri and Sergio Storti from Val d'Aosta who assured us a place to stay.We rented a jeep and loaded with all the necessary gears, in three

After wading the river, that unscheduled bath projected us into our adventure: over the stream we were now only three boys, Gianni, Paolo and Wlady with three very heavy backpacks, not a compass, not a map, just a printed image in mind and that was enough to push us further. In the evening the sky brightened and we finally could see in all its majesty the mountain peak with its characteristic flat summit, but unfortunately we found that to reach its base we would had to to cross a stretch of forest, which was possible only with the help of two Indians, met by chance, Manuel and Damaso, who became our guides. We went on with the machete, the insects were killing us and it took us two days to get out of the forest; we arrived under the wall, we made a camp base under a large boulder whose shape guaranteed a good shelter to our tents. During the cleaning of the place with great surprise we found some very curious things, a bottle containing two messages that witnessed as many botanical and ornithological expeditions in these places in 1944 and 1972.

I proceeded in free climbing but the poor grip in one part of the rock made me fly a few meters upside down, falling directly on the belay (two pitons and a friend); when turning upside down some of the pitons and carabiners that I was carrying on my shoulder slipped off, they stopped under a few meters down so Paolo was able to get them. It was evening, we slept on the wall on a terrace made up of very unstable fat plants, but inside the dry sleeping bag the feeling was amazing.

The decisive day caught us with hunger, a poor breakfast was our last meal, then along the wall we entered a chimney too large, and Paolo, who was taller than me, had to overcome it, we came out of the latter an oversized crack bathed by a cascade of water, still in free solo, a ten meters wall separated us from the top of the wall and we passed it with patient and with the aid of "cliff" and “rurp" we reached the plateau and finally conquered the summit. We embraced happily and coldly, we took the usual photos, the rain had stopped and the sky around us glimpsed a shade of blue, a sign that the Gods had kindly welcomed us into their home: Tepui in the language of the PemĂłn Indians means precisely "House of the Gods".

The difficulties of the rappel return did not seem so difficult to us, we reunited with Wlady, who was also hungry. A few days later, we arrived at Kavanayen on foot, the jeep has broken down, we ate all the bread we found at the village. Father Tirso was stunned by our adventure and he had the jeep repaired with a spare battery: it was New Year's Eve and we spent it camping on the shore of a pond serene and satisfied, we were the first to have climbed the Ptari-Tepui.

It was Christmas time, in front of the fire we remembered with nostalgia the Christmas mood in our hometown. In the following days we made an advanced camp under the wall that appeared imposing, polished and did not allow us to glimpse the end of it because it was covered by clouds: in that moment we were sure that the next day would be the big day.

We got up early, with little food left, so it was necessary to go up quickly, we decided to leave Wlady at the camp to be faster. So Paolo and I began the climb and immediately understood that the wet rock

I’ve met Matteo from Coldfocus in Helsinki, during a 2-week trip for a Snowboard shooting.

I've always liked the skills he has in filming and even more his search for an ever-different point of view, both from an aesthetic point of view and in the stories he tells. First with Siberia Teaches (which I recommend you) and today with The Fifth Sun, a ColdFocus crew work, he has never ceased to amaze and inspire. me.

Where does the idea of developing the documentary The Fifth Sun come from? The Fifth Sun was born from the desire to realize a documentary about the traveler rather than a travel documentary. The word Wanderlust is increasingly used in everyday vocabulary, in the original sense of the word it indicates an uncontrollable desire to travel. From this word came the curiosity to observe what was really behind this necessity that pushes a certain number of people to abandon everything to live "on the road�.

Tell me about the name The Fifth Sun and why you chose a solar eclipse in Australia as your goal.

When our protagonist expressed the desire to cross the world to see this total eclipse of the sun in Australia, we started to do some research and to study what this event could represent. We have then discovered that, according to some Maya prophecies, that would have been the eclipse that would have closed an era, called the Fourth Sun, to mark the beginning of a new cycle dictated by different balances and called precisely the

Fifth Sun. According to some interpretations of the prophecy, this passage would have represented a radical change in society as we know it today. It has been natural for us to seek a parallel between this epochal revolution and the change that the journey would have represented for us and for the main character, because we know that any journey has the great ability to change us a bit.

Where did you meet Panu, the protagonist? Panu is the older brother of a Finnish friend of mine.

We were looking for a character and a story to tell since a couple of years and he immediately looked like the right person. Every time I met him in Helsinki, he was always back from some extraordinary adventure. The way he told his experiences made them magical and also his ability to interact with the people he met was unique and special. These two things convinced us that he would be able to handle the weight of a lens pointed into his face 24/7 for 2 and a half months. When we met Panu, he had been traveling non-stop for 5 years. Before leaving everything

he was a firefighter in Switzerland, until he felt the urge to live in a different way and so decided to give up everything to live off his savings.

From then on he started to go home only to leave again. It is in his coming backs that I happened to meet him. The great quality and ability of Panu was, from the beginning, not to feel the presence of the camera and to be able to soothe even the people he met, in a sort of unexpected osmosis. For us filmmakers it was a fantastic experience because this made us invisible, allowing us access to an intimacy that is usually not easy to document.

Tell me about the two of you instead, what are you doing in Helsinki? I, Matteo, have been living in Helsinki for more than 15 years, here I started working as a filmmaker, mainly shooting snowboards.

Since 2011 I have worked with Cristiana to expand the type of video productions. Today we have an international dimension that leads us to work and collaborate with clients and professionals from all over the world, it is a great fortune.

In the documentary you speak about the Wanderlust syndrome, what is it exactly? As I was telling you before, Wanderlust indicates an uncontrollable desire to travel and feel a wandering spirit. This attitude seems to be, for some scientists, a syndrome to look for in the DRD4 gene, which would explain why our ancestors left for the unknown with a certain courage that, if not dictated by a profound need, would be almost inexplicable. They all had this syndrome! Obviously we do not all have this "gift" (but that’s my own opinion), which seems to belong to a small number of human beings.

With this documentary we wanted to understand where this need of coming and going come from and, to do that, we have followed a guy who had married this way of life for several years now.

You have achieved a considerable success with The Fifth Sun and won many awards, what are the most important ones and what those that have satisfied you the most? It has been a wonderful surprise to see how this documentary was appreciated. The first prize we won was the people award of the Moscow International Documentary Film Festival and, in fact, the spectators had a lot of fun, probably because in the movie you can see a part of Russia and their wonderful people. Shortly thereafter, we won as best documentary in Kiev in Ukraine and in Almaty in Kazakhstan, then in Mexico we were awar-

ded with the best self-produced documentary award and then we also won in the United States, precisely in the state of Utah. Recently we had a victory in our home country, again as best documentary, at the Rome Independent Film Festival. We have other prizes but they are still secret, as soon as they will be official we will update you. We hope to have the opportunity to present it in other Italian cities, before deciding what to do at the distribution level.

What was the hardest moment of the trip? It is difficult to say what was the hardest moment of the trip.

Physically, the closer we got to the end, the harder it became because fatigue became real. Mentally, perhaps, it was hard to handle the moments of discouragement, when you have the feeling that what you are doing does not make too much sense and, in two and a half months, this can often happen. But we have always been good together and, above all, we have always been helped by whoever we meet.

Have you set a certain kind of narrative aesthetics or was it all very instinctive? We started with a precise idea of how we would have filmed, but the first few weeks we made a lot of mistakes because it was difficult to understand what and who we would have to follow with the camera, without influencing the protagonist's decisions.

Given his sensitive personality, do you think Panu suffered from the fact that you were three fil-

mers, maybe too many? Certainly it was not easy for him, especially in difficult times when fundamental decisions had to be taken for the documentary and we needed to leave him alone, just in order not to interfere. Then we were 3 Italians. Panu has been a saint!

Arrived at the end of the adventure, did you have the feeling of having found what you were looking for? We think so. The beauty of the documentary is that you can plan and try to predict what could happen, but the reality in the end, in some way or another, will always amaze you!

Congrats again for the work guys, it is a must see! Is there anything that you would change according to your eye today?

Every time we present it at a festival there are a thousand things that we would like to change. While for a commercial project there is a precise deadline, on a work like this the only purpose is dictated by the presentation at the cinema.

So there is a moment when you have to say stop and do not change anything anymore, but this does not mean that the need to intervene disappear.

Often then it depends on the public who is seeing it, each culture has its own sensitivity, its own humor; age, nationality, number of spectators can change the perception of the project a lot, so much so that eventually you would like to customize it for each one of them.

MapMyRun is a highly performing and easy to use app. It automatically recognizes the shoes within seconds, it shows a picture of the connected model and a moment later you are ready for you daily training. And once synchronized MapMyRun will automatically reconnect to your shoes every time you go out running.

If you want to run without taking your phone with you, the pod inside the shoe still performs monitoring the whole workout, allowing the later synchronization of the data recorded with MapMyRun. In this case, however, the training track, the altitude and the day weather will not be detected (when running with the phone, the distance is detected using a combination of GPS and data captured by the accelerometer of the pod, which fills useful gaps in GPS tracking to improve accuracy). Up to date there is no way to connect HOVR Infinite to other apps, such as Strava or Endomondo. And there is no possibility to read the data recorded by the chip on Sportwatch Garmin Suunto or Apple Watch.

The HOVR Infinite Under Armor shoes can certainly be considered the first model of intelligent running shoes. If from a purely technical point of view they have nothing to envy to models of the same category, the questions remain linked to future developments referring to the most technological part. The additions and updates could bring them to a decidedly competitive level, not only limited to running shoes, but also compared to the main racing tools and accessories. Especially considering the fact that the cost, despite all the integrated technology, remains very interesting, only € 110.

But the positive aspect is the ability to update MapMyRun and the integrated system whenever Under Armor makes new versions of the firmware available. In this article I would like to tell you the story of a man I had the pleasure of working with this year.

I would like to tell you this story in the simplest and most sincere way possible, in order to give you the portrait of a person I admire.

To understand this article you to know need four basic pieces of information:

was certainly not something that happened by chance. I was in Nicolosi to follow and document a part of his ski mountaineering season together his friend Nadir Maguet, aka “the Wizard", for a sort of backstage, a story of sport and friendship.

I already knew the Wizard and I can say that he is still a very nice person. The Wizard is another athlete of the Italian national team, from Val d’Aosta and always smiling. I was just saying hi to the Wizard when Bosca arrived. He greeted me with a defiant smile, even though I noticed his pre-race tension. That European championship was my first step into the world of races with seal skins, of which, frankly, I had no experience whatsoever. On the contrary, I have always been prevented against any sport in which a high level of competition was combined with very tight-fitting and brightly colored jerseys. Bosca, and with him the Wizard, were able to make me change my mind quickly.

The first is that it is written by me, so everything you are going to read is purely subjective.

The second is that I will tell you who Michele Boscacci is for me.

The third is that Michele Boscacci, always within this article, is also known as Bosca.

The fourth is that Bosca, for those who don’t know him, is the world champion in charge of ski mountaineering.

I met Michele last February. Although my memory is not that good, I remember very well our first meeting. We met in Nicolosi, a small village on the slopes of Etna, in the province of Catania.

To reach that little village I drove about thirty kilometers on a black van which happens to mix well with the asphalt where I was driving, both for the color and for the dents on the car . Once I got there, as soon as I turned the noisy engine off, it was incredible to hear a flow of perfumes and melodies coming from that little village.

In a short time I understood that ski mountaineering means knowing how to listen to your body and train hard, always. And by always I mean to train constantly at about 500,000 meters high per season. It's a job, period. Three hundred and sixty-five days a year.

I also remember that it was possible to see the sea from the square of Nicolosi. I met Bosca in that square, at the opening ceremony of the European Alpine Skiing Championships. Our meeting

person only when you enter his family context. I had lunch with his grandparents and had dinner with his parents. His father Graziano is certainly the person who most intrigued me, especially for his background. Not too many years ago he was a very strong and talented ski mountaineer.

I was still working in La Sportiva and my colleagues used to give the nickname "thoroughbred" to anyone who was able to face the every efforts better than the others. Yes, I think I would describe him like this: Bosca is simply the strongest.

The maniacal attention to details and the hard training are his true talents. His main characteristics are being methodical and passionate, enriched by a great serenity and liveliness, the one that only that only true champions have.

Together with his historic partner Ivan Murada he won many races and trophies, including the Pierramenta, won by Michele himself in 2018 together with Robert Antonioli. What is certain is that the Boscacci family has always practiced ski mountaineering.

After that time on Etna I saw Bosca a couple of times more and then in Marmolada. The reason why I spent so much time with Michele is the fact that I'm working on a new video of the "La Sportiva Storyteller� series, a project that I have been taking care of for a couple of years now for the well-known Val di Fiemme brand. These were the real occasions in which I got to know him better, going beyond the image of the angry athlete.

It was an opportunity to dig into the spirit of a man driven by a great passion.

I never expected to find out one side of Michele that also very different from that of a simple athlete. Michele, despite his numerous sports appointments, still manages to help in the carpentry and in the family barn. The Boscacci family is very close and you can feel it in the air as their humility and genuineness are visible to the eyes. At this exact moment I feel I have gone beyond the athlete and met a man. Yes, because in the end it is not just a record to beat with the lightest carbon skis ever. In the end it is always and only about passion, that inexplicable feeling that goes against the logic of many people and it is only important to our personal well-being, as a fire for the spirit.

At the end of this summer I was a guest for a couple of days at his house in Albosaggia, in the province of Sondrio, in Valtellina. I think that was the first and only time I saw Bosca without the synthetic jersey. In fact, during the summer he usually puts the skis away but without resting at all. In fact, between one winter and the other, Michele does a lot of kilometers and meters in altitude running and cycling and, when it happens, ski roll. For me it was also an opportunity to meet his family. You can really get to know a

y name is Mauro Calibani, I was born in Ascoli Piceno in 1974. My father was an explorer mountaineer, both he and my mother are great mountain and nature lovers. I am a climber, when I was a child I’ve always seen my father prepare his gears for climbing, and inside of me that desire burned too. I had to wait for a long time but at the age of 14 I opened my first mountain route with my father.

At 16 I was introduced to sport climbing by my friend Stefano Romanucci, a creative and imaginative climber that helped me to develop a part of me that is extravagant and innovative, and above all taught me to never set limits in my mind and never believe what you hear, but always experience firsthand. I have climbed for years on cliffs and in the mountains, often alone, and thanks to my self built wall I could carry on my vertical passion. In 1991 I took part in the first Italian youth championship and I ranked second. In 1997 I won the Italia Lead Cup. Between 96 and 97 I felt the need to transfer my passion for brief extreme sequences of movements, discovering bouldering.

Bouldering has given me new visions, strong feelings never experienced before and in a natural way I intensified my practice that brought me to stay ​​6 days out of 7 in nature, detaching myself from the common thought and starting an intimate and deeper path of a new “Me” as a climber. In that precise moment the long journey of E9 began, born in conjunction with all these things My creative part began to intensify its flow, the first sample of E9 was born, consisting of long trousers, the Montone, the 3\4 Fuego and the Pollicino short, together with 2 t-shirts, 2 magnesite bags for walls and bouldering; in addition to a crash pad and 3 wool caps.

What does climbing mean to you in 2018?

It means being myself, through climbing I try to merge with the stone, and through it free my deepest emotions.

The climb takes care of my sadness, frees my mind from negative thoughts and above all it gives me the opportunity to feel like an artist.

I love climbing and I see in a stone one of the most beautiful expressions of nature, that stood already there, still, waiting just to be seen and through my body in movement I join it trying to give life and value to its beauty.

I often get excited looking at the beautiful lines of the stones I meet and I feel privileged to be able to give them value and life with my vertical dance.

Founder and creative-active mind of the brand E9, when does this idea begin?

I have always had the passion for clothing, looking for extravagance even in clothes as a form of expression of myself. In 1998 while I was studying in Bologna, I felt more and more uncomfortable as a student, and I no longer imagined my future just teaching. Bouldering had already completely kidnapped me.

It happened that suddenly I started to think strongly about the possibility of creating a clothing line for climbers, I left my studies and I invested all my savings and my energies in a crazy, visionary and innovative project, I wanted to create clothes, above all for myself and to finally give a nice aspect to climbers. They were some unforgettable moments, even difficult ones, I had jumped into the void, towards a journey in an unknown world outside my safety.

What happened since the beginning of this project? What do you see looking back?

I see a fantastic project, E9, not just a clothing brand but something bigger, a "Real Brand", in which people after twenty years recognize us more and more for the expressive coherence that we have developed over the years. At the beginning, for several years, we were the only ones doing this kind of work, clothing for climbers. We have always done it with passion and enthusiasm, our style has influenced many brands in the industry, E9 has invented the style in the climbing world, in an original, authentic and disruptive way.

What would you say to the Mauro Calibani of that day, from the day when you started this path, as an entrepreneur.

I would say to him while laughing, that he was a crazy visionary, who used all he had inside to carry out his climbing life, along with that river full of creativity that flowed inside him, which led him to become the first Champion of the World of bouldering in history in 2001 in Winterthur, and what was even more original was that the arrival to this goal happened climbing exclusively in nature and never on the plastic. I would also say that even without being deeply aware of it, he has created something unique and important, which goes beyond a simple business project, where the values and the philosophy of climbing have always guided everything. In the end I would say that given the results he was right deciding to dare. This only happened because I had a family behind me that left me free to be myself.

From the beginning I recognized in you a palpable, genuine, true sensitivity. What responsibility do you feel you have as a brand in the world of climbing?

First of all thanks! The responsibility is huge and non stop, one of our motto is “Preserve the rock”, another is “Listen to the Rock” and another one is “Listen to the Nature”. Our suffering commitment is in that, the effort in trying to transmit real, important values that ​​ can help to safeguard Nature and the Stone, sacred elements for us climbers.

We need to teach to see, to feel, to respect everything that is our heritage, especially for future generations. Do not use rock and nature just to feed our ego, but to get in touch with them and live the climbing with more sensitivity, respect and passion, reminding us that we are invasive

and devastating guests. It seems to me that today the trend is to reduce everything to a classification of numbers, results and appearance.

I miss the type of climbing of years ago, where great people from that time invented, written, loved. Today climbing has become an impressive phenomenon, and even E9 has the responsibility of transmitting the right, important and true values that ​​ are part of everyone who is a climber.

What do you think about environmental sustainability.

Can I ask you concretely what, as E9, you do and what would you like to communicate for the protection of the planet?

The sense of responsibility to try to contribute to the protection of nature and the planet for a company like ours, that does not produce primary goods for life, is and has always been very strong, especially in recent years, thanks to the obvious consequences of a “global” indifference in his theme, and also in E9 is more alive than ever. E9 has always produced in Italy and this not only add prestige and value for production in a qualitative sense, but also means above all a "Km 0" production.

Our productions are almost 100% produced in an operating radius of 30 km around our head quarter, this almost completely eliminates the consumption of fuel and the resulting emissions of greenhouse gases.

The second aspect we are facing is the introduction, already in the FW19 line, of Organic Cotton on most of our clothes, which means cultivating cotton with a lower consumption of water, eliminating the use of harmful pesticides.

We have in mind other projects aimed at the planet's care, even if they will never be quite incisive, having a real change would require a radical change, which will make men return to consume what they really need, with the awareness that nature is our true heritage.

Would you like to give 3 advices to a climber in order to respect the environment?

Always behave trying to impact as little as possible on the surrounding environment. Evaluate the real impact in the ecosystem of the place from different points of view before divulging new areas to the masses of people. Use the stone optimally to lengthen the life of the rock over time.

What is your biggest dream?

Start doing something really important for the planet, a change of direction that will benefit nature.

Have you ever thought concretely what Mauro Calibani will do in the future, in ten years, for example?

Unfortunately I am not a person who likes to program things so I live everything I do with enthusiasm and passion, moment after moment. If I will be still leading the brand in the future, everything I said above will have to be amplified and turned to changes that will evolve with me, for the moment I have little time to think about my future, I try to make less mistakes, even if I keep making them.

What do you think about climbing at the Olympics? What are the negative and positive aspects?

I personally don’t care much about climbing at the Olympics, it could be the fortune of the great commercial strategists, to sell more and more by grabbing markets at any cost, or for those athletes who will be totally devoted to agony. Climbing as a purer form of art will not bring anything.

What are your medium and longterm projects?

In climbing face the most beautiful routes that I will be lucky enough to meet, all those that will make my heart beat, possibly the ones I will be the first one to find, those that others have not seen before. In life I would like to try to always remain faithful to my principles, changing for the better, going on doing to what I have done until now.

a The end of a long way, the starting point of a new one.

I stumbled across this story by chanche, as always. I met the photographer and adventure lover, Pehuen Grotti and had a chat in a café in Chamonix, with Steven Le Hyaric, the sportsman and adventurer that Pehuen had accompanied a few months before in Nepal.

This is the story of a high level sporting performance. But I prefer to talk about a very human story. A 2000 km mountain bike trail on one of the hardest tracks in the world, the Great Himalaya Trail, but above all it is a journey to the deep discovery of yourself.

Let me introduce you Steven.

He’s a bit more than 30, two-thirds of his years have been spent in the high level sport world: riding a bike since he was 5, he arrived at the French championship very young, but then bitterly realized that that world made of scores, performances and stress wasn’t made for him. But it was not enough, so after some courses and a master in Communication, he started to work for sports companies and then reached the French Triathlon Federation. After two Iron Man, he arrived at the Rio Olympics, where he discovered once again that in front of the mirror, looking into his eyes, he saw a fundamentally sad man.

Here, in a strong, deep moment of crisis, Steven started to write. He wrote about his life, about his weaknesses and strengths, about his fears, about his dreams. And then Steven decided to leave for Nepal. Why Nepal? Because he has always been attracted by those wild lands. Moreover, he has always been fascinated by the people living there, with their bright eyes, smiling faces, and a strong spirituality.

So Steven left for Nepal but not to go trekking or mountaineering or other kinds of sport, but just to be volunteer: he got in touch whit an association, and he left. Once there, instead of staying there for some weeks, he remained for more than one month, teaching in a poor village school. That time was absolutely enough to come in to a personal contact with children and families from very poor villages. Enough time to perceive the pros and cons of that world. A period of time sufficient to begin to appreciate that Mountain reaching 6000m twice.

Once back in Europe, the experience of high-level sport, the willingness to explore himself through adventure, and the trip to Nepal, were mixed into a crazy adventure. So crazy that seemed like a Dream. And so here we are, whit “Rêves d’Himalaya”, March 2018. Nepal is a country that presents an incredible number of regions, climates and landscapes, which makes it a unique small piece of the planet puzzle: moreover, thanks to its horizontal and vertical extensions, and thanks to climate hardness, Nepal still represents one of the last unwelcoming (and so savage) place in the world. A hundred ethnic groups, for the most part Hindus or Buddhist, make Nepal an interesting humanity patchwork.

v And so what’s this Himalaya Dream about?

The Dream is to start from the Kanchenjunga region, in the north east of Nepal, to cross all the country’s length, through 2000km, passing through 15 regions including the Everest one, Manaslu, Annapurna, Dolpo and so on, facing many climates and many different landscapes. More than twenty steps in between 5000 and 6000m. A total positive drop of 90000m. All of this, in less than 60 days.

But the Dream, more than a list of numbers, it’s a human path, a two months suspension in a world as famous as actually unknown, through far away and remote villages, lost in huge and green valleys, in between majestic and massive heights. Here, the transition of a human being, with his bike, has the same effect of a small stone falling down.

But Steven was not alone: he had Pehuen with him, a photographer and cameraman half French, half Argentinian. He was with Ngawang, Sherpa guide, Himalaya territory expert.

The Dream it’s also to live, and to share everyday emotions, satisfactions, and of course struggles and frustrations. It’s not always a pleasure to live side by side when you are in extreme conditions, especially when it comes to the unexpected: Pehuen 20 days before the end of the Dream had to withdraw after a nasty fall. Steven’s health was hardly proved by climate changes, and he got sick for a big part of the adventure, the weight of the equipment between tent, materials (also for shooting) and above all the bicycle, most often to be accompanied by hand or carried on the shoulder.

You mai say, this seems to be a nightmare, not a Dream. Well actually not. This went back being a Dream when magic dawns and sunsets in amazing landscapes, lights your eyes, touching your soul. The trip became a Dream when your tent is always replaced by people’s huts, village by village. All this curious and smiling faces, shy at the beginning, then suddenly confident, welcomed the trio with a real human warmth. For some of them, it was the first time they saw a bike: children played with the new game, monks too.

The dream is sharing, but also solitude. Reflection. For Steven as a sportsman, it also means accepting his limits and going from a mode of competition with others and with himself, to a mode of adventure and exploration. The dream is silence: to appreciate and to enjoy in silence, to suffer in silence, to cry and smile in silence. Do not feel well and do not complain, eat what is offered, drink from the water of torrents: the dream is to feel alive.

The dream has come to an end, in tears of weariness, of satisfaction, of joy.

The dream was to have lived a profound adventure with the world and with ourselves. The dream was the confirmation that in the adventure and in the difficulty we can find ourselves, we can get to know each other better, we can make progress.

The dream is to come back and want to dream again.

In this interview Jacopo, a Black Diamond, The North Face and La Sportiva athlete, tells us and takes us into his world, made of corners, chimneys, cracks and big walls!

Hi Jacopo, tell us a little about yourself.

This is always the hardest question! I am 29 years old, I was born in Merano, but grew up in Bolzano. After finishing high school, I moved to live alone in Austria, where I currently live with Babsi, my girlfriend. As a child I spent a lot of time in the mountains with my parents, skiing in winter and hiking in the summer. Like most children I have tried different sports, but I was struggling to find the most suitable one for me; one day a friend of my father told us that the CAI was going to organize the first climbing course for children, I absolutely wanted to participate!

It is useless to say that it was love at first sight and from that day I never stopped climbing. I spent almost ten years in the world of competitions, climbing little rocks, until finally in 2011 I decided to leave that world and I began to travel to discover the various disciplines of climbing.

You are probably the most versatile climbing Italian athlete, what motivates you to want to excel in all disciplines and not just in one? For me it is essential to live climbing at 360 degrees. Spacing from one discipline to another helps me keep the motivated and allows me to constantly test myself in totally different situations. I have the impression that this helps me to grow both as a climber and as a person.

In your opinion, what direction will climbing take in the future? In my opinion, the difference between the world of indoor climbing and the outdoor one will be further emphasized.

The Olympics will help to make the world of competitions known to the general public, bringing more and more people to the gyms. This will involve a greater investment by companies in that part of the "market"; more and more facilities will be built, which will allow an ever-increasing public to get closer to this sport. The

athletes will have more infrastructure available to train, will be followed in a more scientific and professional way, and obviously their level will rise significantly. Only a small part of this new "public" will approach rock climbing. I hope that this change will not undermine the ethics and attitude with which the "great of the past" have forged our "sport". I hope that the adventurous aspect of climbing will not be sold off to make everything more commercial and accessible to a wider audience.

In addition of being a very strong climber, you also work as a tracker, what is your relationship with indoor gyms and what kind of training do you do when you can not climb outside? Tracking is not just my job, but first of all is a great passion. I approached this activity almost by chance when I was in high school, as I was looking for a way to pay for my travels; in 2011, after leaving the competitions world, it then turned into a real job.I usually try to concentrate most of the tracking tasks at certain times, so I have more time to travel. Obviously in those months I spend a lot of time in gyms, but mainly for work; the only time of year when I regularly attend climbing gyms to train is winter. During those months I do not have a real training plan, but I try to get back into shape and get ready for the next season by doing boulders and some strength exercises. I’m very freestyle in short.

You always travel with your partner Barbara Zangerl, what are the strengths and weaknesses of being with a very strong climber? I would say that the main merit is the fact of being able to share the same passion every day, without many compromises; trying to or really realize your projects with the person you love is simply beautiful! We are lucky enough to tra80

vel and spend a lot of time together, doing what really makes us happy, what else could you ask for? One bad thing is, at least from the media and work point of view, that sometimes my climbs go into the background.

What was the most exciting experience you had with Barbara? I think the Magic Mushroom climb in Yosemite was one of the most beautiful adventures we shared: it was a real odyssey.

At the beginning the route seemed impossible and we did not think we could climb it both in free solo in that season. But with motivation and mutual trust we managed to realize even this little dream.

Is there anything unseen that you could tell us about your first repeat of Odyssee on the Eiger? Never try to save weight by bringing a single portaledge for two people, even if you are with your girlfriend!

First you were in Yosemite, then in Canada in Squamish and finally in Cadarese, are you thinking of some new and particular destination? We just arrived in Yosemite, so for the moment we will try to enjoy this place, without thinking about the next destinations. I think this will be the last trip of the year, after which we will spend the winter at home in Austria. We spend most of the year around the world and we need to stay a few months at home to recharge the batteries and train. It seems strange to say, but sometimes it's nice to go back to a daily routine, sleeping in your bed and enjoying the comforts of your home. Obviously this does not mean that we spend our days at home sitting on the sofa! In those months we spend most of our time in the gym or on the snowy slopes. To return to your question instead we have many, indeed too many, destinations in mind. At the top

of my list there are certainly Patagonia, Japan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Norway, Australia, Baffin. In short, the list is simply too long to be listed!

You have a list of routes you would like to add to your dream list, as was the case for Magic Mushroom in Yosemite, is there any one you particularly care about and would you like to do? As you can imagine, this list is really very long. The first that come to mind are: my project in Cadarese, "Riders on the storm" (Torri del Paine), "Eternal Flame" (Trango Tower) and the "Tom Egan Memorial Route" (Bugaboos).

You are a vanlifer, what can not absolutely be missing in your van? The coffee machine and the speakers! For me it is essential to start each day with a good coffee and the right music.

I do not like fast departures, I need to get up calmly and enjoy breakfast. Another thing that can not miss in my van is a wide selection of climbing guides, I like to go through them and dream of my next adventures.

Where do you see yourself in about ten years? It's really hard to say. I am a person who does not like to plan his life too much. Actually I can not even tell you what I will do this winter. The only thing certain is that I will continue to follow my passions, wherever they will take me. At the moment my interest is moving more and more towards the great walls and traditional climbing, so I would say that in ten years you will see me hanging on some granite wall trying to climb it without using bolts. I would like to explore something new and combine my passion for climbing with the one for photography, use these two "means" to get in touch and tell stories about other cultures and places. Whatever happens, I can hardly imagine myself sitting in an office.

Cerro Torre e Resilience

m What you are about to read, can be defined as a story of "human resilience" unraveled between the patagonic granite of the Cerro Torre and the calcareous rocks of Grigne, narrated by a non-Lecco inhabitant like me who from Varese can see Grigne far away to the east even if I feel those mountains close to my heart.

J

ust using some imagination, among the innumerable peaks of the Grignetta you can find many that from a certain point of view remember the famous silhouette of the Cerro Torre. Between the Torre and Lecco there is indeed a special bond, interwoven in 1958 when on those rocks still unknown from the other side of the world Carlo Mauri from Lecco, together with Walter Bonatti, tried an epic first climbing attempt, accomplished in 1974 with the expedition of the Ragni, a route now become legendary.

The story: I arrived in El Chalten at the end of December 2017 alone, a few days later Charlie and Panza also joined me. I had less days available for the climb, at the end of January I had to fly to Dubai for work while they were planning to stay down there until the 12th of February. Moreover, Panza’s pack with all the climbing gear arrived one week late. Between the end of December and the beginning of January I waited together with an American guy: we climbed the Aguja Guillaumet and the El Mocho.

A solid bond like the iron that Lecco has produced for centuries in its ironworks.

And, in metallurgy, a technical term is very used today (and perhaps abused) in a thousand other contexts: resilience, the ability of metals to adapt to the forces that are applied to them. This is also the case in the psychological field, where the resilient person is the opposite of an easily vulnerable one. What you are about to read, can be defined as a story of "human resilience" unraveled between the patagonic granite of the Cerro Torre and the calcareous rocks of Grigne, narrated by a non-Lecco inhabitant like me who from Varese can see Grigne far away to the east even if I feel those mountains close to my heart.

On January 8th, when my two adventure companions arrived, we left full of gears like mules in the direction of Passo Marconi, but the difficulties began very soon: the Rio Elettrico was much swollen than expected, crossing it was a challenge. We succeeded, but also the next Rio Pollone was scarily full of water.

In addition there were a lot of rain and wind. We slept in La Playita, put our 35kg bags on our shoulders and faced the thousand meters of altitude that lead to the Passo Marconi, spent up there a windy night and the next day we crossed the monotony of the Hielo Continental glacial and, finally, we were in the Circus de los Altares, the plain at the base of the Cerro Torre.

In the evening the weather got worse, we had a tent for two but we were three inside it, we took shifts in order to not be torn away by the gusts of wind: that’s what I call “resilience"!

The prologue: 2016, Prealpi Lombarde, during an Alpine Rescue exercise.

I was with Giovanni "Charlie" Giarletta and Manuele "Panza" Panzeri, fantasising around an idea that everyone had for a while, a mountaineering expedition in Patagonia. And since mathematics is not an opinion even in mountaineering, the sum of "Patagonia" plus "Lecco" plus "Ragni" plus "1974", added to our dreams, can only give one result: Cerro Torre. In addition, in the historical expedition of '74 took part Ernesto Panzeri, father of Manuel: so, mathematics is not an opinion, it is an expedition! Of course, we have never climbed in Patagonia, the goal may seem too ambitious, but we were aware of our capabilities. Otherwise it would still be a great adventure and a perfect opportunity to get to know the extraordinary mountains of Patagonia.

On the third day the weather should have improved, but no, all the same as before, the mountains remained invariably hidden in the clouds and the Cerro Torre was not visible at all. We were only wasting time, it was useless to stay there: so we went back and then came back again on January 20th, the day of my birthday, which we celebrated just above the Marconi Pass, where Patagonia gave me for the occasion an unforgettable sunset.

The conditions of the glacier had improved, we arrived fast at the Circo de los Altares and, on our route, there were also the American boys I met at the end of December: they too wanted to climb the Torre. The weather was still bad but there was no more time left,

we had to start climbing, with any weather conditions, otherwise I would have to give up the climb. In front of us we saw two moving dots: we thought they were the Americans but instead they were some Romanian boys, someone else with which to share joys and sorrows of the climb. One hour later and we were under the Colle della Speranza.

now that we finally had some time to do it. Unfortunately that day Charlie was buried in an avalanche in Grignetta, along with another friend. A few steps from Lecco, on our home mountain, thousands of km from the "Lecco" Cerro Torre that had also become a bit "ours".

The following morning the weather seemed to get better, according to our ability we decided to divide the climb into three parts: Charlie would first climb the ice section, I would work from Elmo to the Headwall and Panza would guide us from the Headwall to the summit. From that moment on, we had 33 hours of unique emotions, between incredible verticality, inconsistent snow, countless bizarre shapes of ice suspended above our heads that seemed to break at every slight gust of wind, a "creative bivouac" 40 m from the top, another amazing sunset, a sleepless night and another 8 hours of struggle shared with the ice, until 2pm on January 25th when we reached the top of the Cerro Torre!

In my life I’ve learnt to be "resilient", applying the same peculiarity of metals to all the situations that I face. Psychological resilience is the ability to persist in pursuing objectives, effectively coping with every difficulty and any negative event that must be manifested, adapting and knowing that even from them can sometimes arise an unexpected new opportunity. On the other hand, I am well aware that defeats are an integral part of the emotional process that leads a person to grow, setting goals that are always a little higher than their abilities in order to continuously improve. Defeat serves to make the person stronger, more judicious and aware in facing a second time the challenges incurred. Then, it happens that there are difficulties so unthinkable and so hard to face, and this time life has put me in front of the greatest of "challenge" to be faced in a conscious and rational way.

The emotion was indescribable, we felt the strongest men in the world, the most "resilient" and certainly also the most lucky ones, to be in that magnificent place and to have climbed it in just one and a half days with such extreme conditions. Everything below us was small and the horizon seemed everywhere infinite. We hugged, took photos of the summit and immediately began to prepare to go down. Even the descent of the Cerro Torre was a not a simple challenge, especially if faced in the fog and at the mercy of the wind, with pieces of ice falling and ropes flying everywhere.

At 11pm we all landed on the snowy basal slope, finally out of the difficulty.

I could speak of "shock test", aka the test with which to determine the breaking strength for a dynamic stress.

The disappearance of Giovanni "Charlie" Giarletta was a very hard shock test, which required a longer time and a greater force to be able to react to: but I am not a fragile person who is not able to face the situations that unfortunately life, especially the one of a mountain climber, can present to you. I am, and I must be, once again, "resilient", even just to channel the energy received from the shock of the trauma and convey it to something productive that can best remember a special person. Goodbye Charlie, I'm happy to have said goodbye to you under the Cerro Torre, and every time I hear a breath of wind in the mountains, I'll know you'll be there with me.

"My" Torre ended there, I had a flight and a job waiting for me, I could not waste any more time. Charlie and Panza remained one night more at the Circo de los Altares before returning. Three more days, and I was already working and choking under the glowing Dubai sun.

The epilogue: February 16th, coming back to Italy from the Arab Emirates, happy as a child, I immediately wrote to the guys to meet and celebrate our adventure,

Federico Ravassard A 23 years old Italian guy even if his last name sounds French, Federico represents a new type of the modern outdoor photographer. He defines himself as a photographer, but he is also a storyteller, an adventurer, an excellent alpinist and a skier.

He told us that what came first was the passion for photography, then the one for climbing and the mountain, but fortunately they ended up embracing spontaneously.

He loves experimenting, he’s ironic and loves what he does. Yes, he has fun in everything he does, it may obvious but it isn’t.

“ With the film, however, I can focus on 24, or 36 photos at the most, few but good. Being so few, compared to the digital, you give them much more value and you go through them with a smile.”

Federico, we're at the bar counter and I don’t know you at all, tell to me something about you.

I never know how to answer to this question. I’m used to say that "I travel” for work, I take pictures, I write, climb, ski, all those things together. And in my free time I do the same!

When did you meet photography? If I have to think about a specific moment, I’d say during a trip with my family to the parks of the west coast of the United States.

My parents gave me a digital compact camera for my eighth grade, and in those incredible places getting a good photo was not that difficult. That maybe was the moment when my passion began.

What came first: passion for photography or for the mountains? During high school I began to seriously get into photography, and I happened to do some small photos related works at some friends’ parties at the disco.

I was in that phase when you really shoot anything, without really knowing what to do. Portraits, landscapes, clumsy street attempts. Then I stopped practicing tennis and alpine skiing and started climbing and ski mountaineering, and little by little the two things - mountains and photography - met and became indissoluble. Today, clim-

bing or hiking without taking at least one picture, even with my smartphone, seems to me a terrible sin.

What emotions do mountains and nature give you in general?

A lot. Sometimes there is the elusive magic of sunsets and sunrises, while other times I love the struggle of very long hikes.

Or the surprise of finding wonderful places I had never been to, or the wonder of finding exceptional snow conditions or a particular wall. Then, an essential element for me, is the beauty of the people there: in the mountains you meet really many people who, despite being linked by a common passion, on everything else can be very different from each other, but always very open minded and interesting.

How important is it for an outdoor photographer to know how to move well in the mountains?

I really like going to the mountains on my own, so in the end I have a pretty good level in everything I do. I think it is very important to know how to deal with it autonomously, both because this way you can concentrate more on the photographic part, and because this creates a good relationship with the subjects you are going to shoot. The photographer should be first of all a good companion, not a burden for the success of the excursion.

You are very young, you have not lived the film photography era. But every now and you shoot on film. Why? Is it just something cool or is there something more? In addition to the color rendering of the film, which I love, I find it a very sincere way to shoot: you can not rely too much on post production, or even on the burst, while today it seems that the combo "shooting a lot of photos + plenty of filters" is the right way to be cool. At the same time, I find it detoxifying: I work every month on thousands of raw files, which then end up somewhere on my hard disk.

With the film, however, I can focus

on 24, or 36 photos at the most, few but good. Being so few, compared to the digital, you give them much more value and you go through them with a smile. And then I shoot on film because I like a lot the idea of having a physical form of my work, rather than just a virtual file.

You’ve been to some incredible places recently, can you quickly tell me where you went? This year I spent a month in Peru where, with Enrico Mosetti and Davide Limongi, two Friulian friends of mine (and great skiers too), we tried to ski on some little known peaks in the Cuzco area. It was my very first expedition, and we had to deal with very little information about the places and with mountains above 5000 meters.

It was definitely a good experience. Then, every now and then, there are continuous getaways to climb and ski. I’ve been to Spain, several areas of the Western Alps and a few visits on the eastern ones, a bit of Italy, even if then among the places I prefer there are two areas relatively close to home: the Valle dell'Orco and the peaks of the Ecrins , both very wild and less frequented than some more famous mountains such as the Mont Blanc and the Dolomites.

Where will you go in the near future? At the end February I’m going in the northern part of Norway, to ski and take photos.

Then who knows. Sometimes I read articles about Caucasus and Balkan countries, we'll see!

What's inside your backpack when shooting in the mountains? It depends on what I'm going to shoot. Sometimes I have too much mountaineering gears and I really can not bring extra lenses and heavy backpacks; other times, on the other hand, if the excursion is simple I can bring a lot of extra gears on my back. Surely there are always extra clothes, light gloves, at least one battery and something to eat.

Where do you take inspiration for your shots and your style? I have many sources of inspiration.

Instagram is one of these, even if I take it in small doses because in the long run you get used to a very homogenized esthetics, in which tendencies change only occasionally. Just think of the classic image of Lake Braies, for me that thing is the death of photographic research. For the rest, I go as much as possible to exhibitions and I try to read books on the subject, I really like the interviews with the single artist. I think that in general we must strive to observe and get to know as many photos as possible, even from different genres.

Who are your favorite photographers? There are many. Some of them are able to move from sport to documentary, such as Jonas Bendiksen or Christoph Jorda. I like those who shoot clean: simple photos in the form and post production, but at the same time full of messages inside. In the outdoor world there are three people that I like very much from this point of view and are Jeff Johnson, Alex Strohl and Sterling Lorence. Then there are other photographers who apparently have nothing to do with what I do, I try to study their style to apply it in other areas. All the Magnum crew (Koudelka, Goldberg, Majoli and many others which are very good), and others who work on very special genres: to give you an example, I love the underwater photography of Anuar Patjane, the female portraits of Tim Swallow and the landscapes of Reuben Wu .

You are a good storyteller. How important is it to know how to tell a story even when shooting?

For me it is important that from a shot a fact or an emotion can clearly emerge, otherwise what you obtain is not a picture, but only a beautiful postcard. In the same way, I prefer work on journalistic and documentary projects rather than on commercials. If you find the right lever, which is an action that has to

do with the sensitivity of the observer, you can show many pieces of stories that deserve to be put in place to be told. I studied Transmedia and Digital Storytelling at the Holden School in Turin and, although apparently with photography does not seem to have much in common, I think it was useful to better understand the value and the rules of certain languages, which now in a world hyperconnected with social networks can not be overlooked.

There is a strong current of young photographers in the outdoor world, how do you explain this trend? I think this growth is due, in part, to the boom of outdoor disciplines in general, but also to social networks: for example, on Instagram certain photo genres have been democratized and made known to the mass, just think of the work of Chris Burkard, a photographer who until a few years ago would have known only by fans willing to buy a paper magazine. In the same way, with digital it is objectively easier to be able to grow quickly on a technical level, where with the analogical you would have need years of practice. Now if a guy is passionate he can get good results in a short time.

Do you get a different feeling when you see one of your photos on a digital support instead of when you see it printed on a magazine or on paper? The feeling (which is positive or neutral, negative only when the photo is published without my consent) depends more than anything on who published it and where. Normally it gratifies me more to see it printed on the paper of a magazine or a national newspaper, but also to appear on the digital channels of prestigious brands and magazines, of which I may share the tastes in terms of editing, is a great satisfaction. Last year one of my ski shot was shared by National Geographic on Instagram: of course, it is not like the paper, but knowing how tight their criteria selection are it really pleased me.

I believe that both digital and paper are eternal, but in a different way. An image in digital will be forever on the web, dispersed among thousands of links. On paper it will always be on a real support, scattered somewhere in the world, who knows where, who knows who will find it. What do you think about it? With digital you can easily reach tens of thousands of people, but they may be not always users who appreciate your work to the full. On paper, on the other hand, you can be sure of reaching a minor but certainly more attentive audience. I prefer the latter!

What are you going to do tomorrow? I'm in Trentino in these days to follow the Alpine Ski World Cup for a specialized magazine. After so many days in the cold (by the way: despite what you might think, I'm sensitive to the cold), tomorrow I'll enjoy one day at home in slippers, which is not so bad in the end.

The Oclini Pass is a magical place but still little known and, after all, we can not help but wish it would remain this way for a long time.

I

n the South Tyrolean Garden, between the southern parts of the Dolomites and only 30 km from the provincial capital Bolzano, the Oclini Pass (Jochgrimm) is a special corner, a jewel jealously kept hidden and preserved by the advent of mass tourism. Nestled in the suggestive mountain landscape of South Tyrol, between the peaks of the Catinaccio, the Sciliar, the Brenta mountain, the Latemar, between the mountains of Val d'Ega and Val di Fiemme, this enchanting place still unleashes the magic of the authentic dolomitic scenery, away from noise and confusion, from stress and modern frenzy. The ideal place to spend a genuine and authentic holiday in the heart of South Tyrol.

duced: the physical oxygen you need, however, remains unchanged, even in the height. Over 2,000m, therefore, the body is forced to increase respiratory activity and heart rate, to compensate for the lack of oxygen, producing more red blood cells.

Staying at this altitude, in the splendid setting of the Val d'Ega and Aldino mountain pastures, therefore helps to improve the oxygen supply through the lungs and its transport in the bloodstream, in the tissues and in the muscles. Metabolic activity is then stimulated and energy production is increased. For athletes, this type of training serves to lay the foundations for the improvement of physical conditions and the strengthening of physical and mental performance and endurance. It also helps to slow down the aging process, to strengthen the immune system, to increase the consumption of fats and to reduce the weight more easily.

Oclini represents the essential: away from mass fun, in summer and in winter, the Pass can give you emotions that warm the heart. And so it was for Julia and Georg, originally from Termeno in the province of Bolzano.

For them, Oclini is around the corner, and on a cold but bright day, they went up to the top, running. They ran until their shadows became long black shapes that contrasted the snowy white of the meadows, until night fall after a fiery sunset. Around them nothing and no one, only the silence and a breathtaking view of the surrounding valley. For them, Oclini almost feels like home and they have been there countless times because of the MTB that they practice at a competitive level. But that’s not all, both are fond of cross-country skiing, trail running and road racing. Passo Oclini is the ideal place to practice all these sports activities and also for high altitude training.

A plateau at 2,000 meters above sea level, all covered by a thick blanket of snow, a unique landscape, a fairytale atmosphere, illuminated by the sun with a 360° views of the snowy valleys of South Tyrol and the bizarre massifs of the Dolomites, intimate and welcoming shelters, managed with the proverbial hospitality of South Tyrol and a network of cross-country trails to choose from, with guaranteed snow and impeccable preparation. All this is the Oclini Pass, a paradise for cross-country skiing. A pure state of freedom.

The best trails at high altitude, on slopes of 3.5 and 8 km, are combined with those of Aldino, Monte S.Pietro, Nova Ponente and the cross-country skiing center of Lavazè, all of them create a network of slopes that reaches 80km of length.

The Oclini Pass is a magical place but still little known and, after all, we can not help but wish it would remain this way for a long time.

For altitude or high altitude training we mean a type of physical training, but also a simple way to stay in the high mountains, that is at about 2,000 meters above sea level, breathing its air with a low oxygen content.

inside the subway, I look like coming out of a crime novel but I will change, yes I will change�

Gianni Togni released the song "Luna" in 1980. Togni himself revealed the curious story

behind these verses in an interview, in which the songwriter admitted that the song

had been "suggested" by a homeless guy in a subway station that he was used to take.

The screams and disconnected phrases of the vagabond to the people passing by were immediately noted by Togni in his notebook; an hobby that quickly became a melodic poetry. Looking at this photo, those verses immediately came to my mind. Knowing

this background I immediately imagined a climber as the clochard of the station. A climber, in some ways, is a bit like that madman in the metro: he speaks a different

language and lives in a way that not everyone understands or can understand. The

safety given by money, comfort, daily life, a climber does not really like those things, as well as that poor vagabond. Just a piece of rock to climb, nothing more. He only lives in the exact moment of the climbing and exclusively in an essential form, ignoring the

superfluous and embracing the primordial. On the other hand, Togni himself said that

in order to reach the Moon, not as the satellite but as the essence of our existence, it is necessary to live life, never stop dreaming, like a spectator looking out of the porthole.
