Victor è una macchina da guerra, non conosce la fatica ed è sempre molto motivato. In street è potente e tecnico, affronta i rail senza timore. In powder, oltre ad avere un ottimo bagaglio di tricks è anche molto creativo.

Conosce perfettamente le esigenze di un fotografo e quando la luce inizia a giocare con le dune di neve è sempre molto attento ad inventarsi qualcosa per arricchire il mio portfolio e regalarvi questa stupenda immagine.

Victor is a war machine, he doesn’t know what is tiredness and he’s always really motivated. In street he’s powerful and technical, he faces rails without any fear. In powder, besides having a great tricks baggage he’s really creative too. He knows exactly a photographer needs and when the lights start playing with the snowy dunes he’s always really focused on inventing something cool to enrich my portfolio and reward you with this amazing picture.

Forse guardando questa foto non potrete percepire la difficoltà dello spot, ma quando Devid mi ha spiegato cosa voleva fare e dove lo voleva fare inizialmente non ci potevo credere. Il trick è un semplice 50-50, ma poco più di un metro alla sua destra c’è un gap di 4-5 metri e dopo solo un paio di metri dall’atterraggio del rail abbiamo dovuto mettere un materasso per attutire l’impatto contro una pericolosa struttura in ferro. Devid non finisce mai di stupirmi.

Maybe looking at this photo you won’t perceive the difficulty of this spot, but when Devid explained me what he wanted to do and where he wanted to do so, initially I couldn’t believe it. The trick is a simple 50-50, but less than one meter on his right side there’s a 4-5m gap. And just few meters right after the landing of the rail we had to put a mattress to cushion the impact towards a dangerous iron structure. Devid never stops surprising me.

L’ultima discesa della giornata è sempre la più faticosa. Lo zaino sembra che pesa il doppio e la stanchezza inizia a farsi sentire. Quando sei in shooting con Gigi però non ti puoi mai rilassare perchè dal suo cilindro è sempre capace di tirarti fuori qualche sorpresa. Tramonto, nebbia e il suo stile fanno di questa foto qualcosa di speciale.

The last run of the day is always the most tiring. Your backpack seems to weigh twice as much and you start feeling the tiredness. When you are shooting with Gigi you can never relax because you never know when he’s gonna pull out some surprises from his top hat. The sunset, the fog and his style make of this photo something special.

Lo snowboard è divertimento ed è questa l’unica cosa a cui pensare quando siamo in sua compagnia. Il divertimento porta di conseguenza a vivere momenti unici e così per renderli ancora più indimenticabili c’è bisogno di documentarli. Fotografie o video non importa, quello che conta è ricordare di cosa è stato nutrito il nostro cuore per tutta la vita. E’ proprio da questo punto di vista e da questo pensiero, che siamo arrivati con la voglia di creare un numero di Sequence Snowboarding che potesse evidenziare ancor di più questo aspetto.

Siamo arrivati al numero 42, un numero che di facce, di foto, di tricks e di video ne ha visti, eccome. Un numero che ha scelto di mostrarci tanti video e tante foto, tanti ricordi e tanti bei momenti. Cose fatte con il cuore, con il sorriso, con la voglia di fare per vivere e ricordare. Forse ragionare così, in questa maniera, potrà sembrarvi un po’ malinconico, ma alla fine la malinconia è l’unica cosa che ti fa realmente apprezzare i ricordi e soprattutto è l’unica cosa che ti fa distinguere ciò che ci ha fatto sentire vivi, riportando con delicatezza i nostri sensi ad assaporare nonostante il tempo trascorso, solo quella pura essenza di ciò che è stato. Abbiamo scelto di intervistare differenti video produzioni internazionali, lo abbiamo fatto scambiando appunto, malinconiche chiacchierate a riguardo delle esperienze trascorse per arrivare ai loro ricordi. Si, perché alla fine se ci pensate i video anche se sono di questa stagione, per loro, per quelli che erano davanti e dietro la camera, sono già un malinconico ricordo.

La cosa bella è che abbiamo voluto intervistare un fotografo per ogni video produzione, lo abbiamo presentato ed abbiamo presentato le sue foto in modo da avere pensieri e ricordi da chi ha vissuto, guardato e documentato tutto in prima persona. Quindi eccoci qui con un piccolo pensiero trasformato in carta stampata e pagine di Sequence. Il nostro messaggio è chiaro, non importa chi siete, cosa fate, come fotografate e come filmate. Noi vogliamo farvi snowboardare e vogliamo farvi ricordare, ma soprattutto vogliamo farvi divertire.

Snowboarding is fun and that’s the only thing you should think about when you’re riding. As a result, fun leads you to experience unique moments and to make them even more unforgettable there’s a need to document them.

Photos or videos, it doesn’t matter. What really matters is to remember what has nourished our hearts during a lifetime. It’s exactly from this point of view and from this thought that we came up with the idea to create a Sequence Snowboarding issue able to highlight this aspect even more. We have come to issue number 42, an issue that has seen many faces, photos, tricks and videos. An issue that chose to show us many videos and many photos, many good memories and great moments. Things made with love, with a smile, with a spirit of initiative to live and remember. Maybe this way of thinking might seem a little bit melancholic, but in the end melancholy is the only thing that really makes you appreciate your memories. It’s the only thing able to bring back that pure essence of what has been in the past, distinguishing what really made you feel alive in that moment. We chose to interview different international video productions, and we decided to have some kind of melancholic chats about past experiences to let them take a stroll down memory lane. Yes, because if you think about it, even if these videos are from this season, for those guys who were there in front and behind the cameras, they are already a sweet memory. The cool thing we’ve done is that we’ve interviewed a photographer for each video production, we’ve introduced him and presented his photos in order to hear memories and stories from someone who has experienced it, has seen it and has documented it in person. So here we are, with a little thought turned into printed paper and Sequence pages. Our message is clear, it doesn’t matter who you are, what you do, how do you photograph or film. We just want you to ride and to let you remember, but most of all we want you to have fun.

E la seconda volta in meno di 365 giorni che pubblico una cover di Nicolò Pezzato. Nik è un vero stronzo, non rappresenta nessun canone di professionalità, non esiste in lui nessuna traccia di un atleta. Si sveglia tardi, non si riesce mai a capire che tricks vuole fare, a volte gira a volte no e la cosa che più mi fa incazzare è che non capisce che per lo scatto fotografico spesso c’è bisogno di un trick basico. Lui non ci sente, non si sbatte per fare qualche run in più e per riuscire ad ottenere uno scatto perfetto. Odioso! La cover che abbiamo scattato in Polonia fotograficamente non è al livello della passata e sicuramente lo scatto è molto meno bello della cover di Tommy in Finlandia del primo numero di quest’anno. Ma questo scatto rappresenta l’energia, la costanza e la voglia di portarsi a casa il trick, la caparbietà.

Quel giorno faceva un freddo pazzesco, l’umidità ti frantumava le ossa e la nebbia ti offuscava le idee, non certo una giornata perfetta per mettere in preventivo un sacco di stecche. Kuba, local polacco, era in possesso di un “winch” costruito artigianalmente con il motore di una vespa, poco sicuro ma efficace. Nik aveva deciso di saltarsi la rete, non aveva ancora in mente il trick ma quella rete verde in ferro arrugginito del campo da calcio lo allettava parecchio. Aprire uno spot non è mai divertente e Nicolò ne paga subito le conseguenze, velocità sbagliata e dente troppo piccolo, “sbam” si insacca nelle rete sfondandola, si ricomincia tutto da capo. Dopo qualche ora siamo nuovamente pronti e il primo trick chiuso è Fs 360, capisco subito che è una prova, sotto il berretto di lana stava tramando molto di più. Si riparte e quando vedo che in rincorsa aveva il piede posteriore slegato mi chiedo se è realmente pazzo oppure se è veramente così forte da provare Onefoot.

It’s the second time in less than 365 days that I publish a cover with Nicolò Pezzato. Nik is a real asshole, he doesn’t represent any standard of professionalism, there are no traces of an athlete in him. He wakes up late, you can never understand what tricks he want to do, sometimes he rides and sometimes he doesn’t, and the thing that extremely piss me off the is that he doesn’t understand that usually to take a good shot is necessary a basic trick. He doesn’t hear us, he never makes an effort to take few more laps to get the perfect shot. Hateful! Photographically speaking, the shot of this cover that was taken in Poland is not at the same level as the last one and probably not as good as the cover of the first issue of this year with Tommy in Finland. But this shot represents the energy, the perseverance and the willing to bring home the trick, the obstinacy. That day was freaking cold, humidity was shattering your bones and the fog was obfuscating your ideas, certainly not the best day to take into account many bails. Kuba, a Polish local, had a handmade “winch” built by a motor scooter engine, perilous but efficient. Nik decided to jump over the fence, he didn’t choose a trick yet but that rusty iron green fence of the soccer field was tempting him quite a lot. Opening a spot is never fun and Nicolò immediately pays the consequences, wrong speed and too small in-run, “boom” and he hit the fence smashing it, so let’s start all over again. After few hours we are ready again and the first landed trick is a Fs 360, I immediately realize it’s just a warm up, behind his cute face he was plotting something.

He starts again, and when I see that his back binding is undone I start wondering if he’s totally crazy or if he’s really that good to try a Onefoot.

Dopo vent’anni di Nissan Skipass, quest’anno per la prima volta è stato scelto di cambiare format del contest, andando così a sostituire la classica spina con un set-up da jibbing. Non sappiamo cosa è meglio e cosa è peggio, e non vogliamo nemmeno entrare nei meriti della cosa. Noi pensiamo che se esiste l’amore per lo snowboard, allora non dobbiamo far altro che pensare a snowboardare. A chi piace girare in street, a chi in fresca e a chi in park, l’importante è girare e divertirsi. Partendo dal presupposto che dobbiamo sempre migliorare, il punto di partenza a nostro avviso è stato sicuramente sufficiente.

Un’idea ed un giudizio concordato dagli oltre 10 riders internazionali invitati, che abituati ad eventi e palcoscenici nettamente differenti, hanno in ogni caso saputo apprezzare nel suo piccolo, questo nuovo evento. Tornando al contest e tornando ai riders, ai nostri occhi sono sicuramente risaltati personaggi di differente stile e potenzialità, ma che in ogni caso hanno saputo mostrare una dote in più per fare la differenza. Kas Lemmens, Olandese dallo stile unico in grado di fare linee nei due set-up di gara, Oivind Fykse, Norvegese che ha praticamente creato lo spettacolo e scaldato il pubblico con i suoi tricks assurdi e Max Zebe che ha impressionato tutti e vinto praticamente l’intero money prize in palio nei 3 giorni di contest. Oltre al contest Modena Skipass per la crew di Sequence è stato molto altro, come al solito 6000 Sequence & Fith Season distribuiti, 650 nuovi abbonati che si aggiungono agli oltre 3000 della scorsa stagione, Sequence Skull Diary, T-Shirt vendute e come chicca sulla torta la premiere del video Shadows di Different Vision Production, all’interno dello stand di Jpg Edizioni.

After 20 years of Nissan Skipass, this year for the first time the contest format has been changed, the old classic spine has been replaced by a fresh jibbing set-up. We don’t know what’s better or what’s worse, and we don’t even want to go into the details of the matter. We think that if we are in love with snowboarding, the only thing we have to do is to enjoy snowboarding. Whether you like street riding, powder or park, the most important thing is to shred and have fun. Starting with the assumption that we always want to improve, in our opinion the starting point was certainly sufficient. An idea and a decision that 10 of the invited international riders agreed upon, who were used to pretty much different stages and events, but they’ve been able to appreciate this new event anyway. Coming back to the contest and to the riders, we’ve seen many personalities with different styles and potentiality that were really standing out, they had some special qualities to make a difference. Kas Lemmens, a Dutch rider with an unique style able to make lines on all the contest set-ups; Oivind Fykse, the Norwegian that has practically put on a show and conquered the audience; Max Zebe impressed everyone and practically won the entire prize money during the 3 days of contests. Besides the contest Modena Skipass was much more for the Sequence Crew, as always 6000 Sequence & Fifth Season have been distributed, 650 new subscribers joined the already 3000 ones from last season, the Sequence Skull Diary, many T-Shirt have been sold and the icing on the cake was the Different Vision Production premiere of the movie Shadows, inside the Jpg Edizioni stand.

First day of snowboarding: Christmas holidays in La Thuile Val D’Aosta, when I was 8. I was really good since the beginning.

a sempre piacere tornare sulle Alpi e respirare un po’ d’aria di montagna, e non c’è niente di meglio che improvvisare una trasferta. Sei a casa a fare le tue cose, poi squilla il telefono, arriva una proposta, e quando la montagna chiama tu non puoi rifiutare. Ed è così che sono finita ad Alpe di Siusi, per il Quiksilver International Team shooting. Avete presente quella sensazione mista tra felicità e stupore? Ecco, questo è esattamente ciò che ho provato quando ho messo piede al King Laurin park di Seiser Alm. Un park immenso e perfettamente shapeato, un mucchio di simpatici ragazzi che ti accolgono in park con il sorriso, quei ragazzi che ogni giorno dedicano corpo ed anima nel prendersi cura delle strutture.

La dedizione e la passione dei ragazzi di F-Tech portano ogni anno tantissimi riders internazionali a girare ad Alpe di Siusi, e questa volta è stato il turno del Quiksilver International Team.

t’s always a pleasure to go back to the Alps and breathe some fresh air, and there’s nothing better than improvise a trip. You are at home doing your stuff, and suddenly your mobile rings, a proposal arrives, and when the mountains are calling you must go. That’s how I ended up at Alpe di Siusi, for the Quiksilver International Team shooting. You know that feeling mixed between happiness and astonishment? Well, that’s exactly what I felt when I set foot in the King Laurin park of Seiser Alm. A huge snowpark shaped perfectly, a bunch of nice guys that welcomes you with a smile on their face, those guys that everyday devote their body and soul to take care of all the structures. The passion and the commitment of the guys of F-Tech bring many international riders to shred to Seiser Alm every year, and this time it was the Quiksilver International Team’s turn. La cosa bella di questo team è che è molto variegato, ognuno di loro ha un proprio stile di riding ed ognuno di loro ha avuto modo di sfogare la propria creatività sulle varie strutture del park. C’è chi è più orientato al park riding e ai salti grossi come Billy e Sparrow, chi preferisce i rails e il jibbing duro come Danimals, e chi spacca su qualsiasi struttura come Teo e Zebbe. Ciascuno di loro ha una storia ed esperienze differenti, e ciò li rende un team compatto dove ognuno ha qualcosa da insegnare al prossimo. Una settimana intensa di shooting, dove i fotografi Timo Jarvinen e Daniel Blom insieme ai filmers Cole Taylor e Ryan Scardigli hanno prodotto tantissimo materiale per i vari progetti Quiksilver. The cool thing about this team is that it’s really variegated, each one of them has an own riding style and each one of them had the opportunity to give vent to their creativity on every structure of the park. There are those who are more oriented to park riding and big kickers like Billy and Sparrow, some prefer rails and kick-ass jibbing like Danimals, then there are those who are killing it whatever they ride like Teo and Zebbe. Each of them has a story and different experiences, and that makes them a solid team where everyone has something to teach each other. An intensive shooting week, where the photographers Timo Jarvinen and Daniel Blom together with the filmers Cole Taylor and Ryan Scardigli have produced a lot of material for all the Quiksilver projects. sitamente aggiustati secondo le esigenze del team. Ma c’è chi è stato attirato dalla wood line del park, come Danimals che ha fatto una session di bonk e handplant sul tronco di legno. Siamo in sudtirolo, quindi immagino che non vi sorprenda vedere una struttura proveniente direttamente dallo spazio. Una vecchia cascina in legno sulla pista trasformata in una macchina da jibbing… Un rail a tubo ed un box montati sul tetto, una campana sudtirolese da bonkare appesa fuori ed una spina che passa da dentro la casetta e spara all’esterno. Ho visitato tanti resort sulle alpi, ma devo ammettere che non ho mai visto un tramonto come quello di Seiser Alm, è una di quelle piccole cose che conclude la tua giornata in modo speciale. La shooting session al tramonto sulla linea dei kickers è stata la ciliegina sulla torta. Questa esperienza con Quiksilver ha regalato dei momenti mozzafiato, di cui ognuno di noi coltiverà bei ricordi.

eds. But there are those who have been attracted by the wood line of the park, like Danimals that had a session of bonks and handplants on a wooden trunk. We are in Sudtirol, so I guess you won’t be surprised if you’ll see a park structure coming straight away from the outer space. An old wooden shelter on the slopes turned into a jibbing machine… A tube rail and a box assembled on the roof, a “sudtirolese” bell to bonk hanging next to the shelter and a spine passing through the inside and kicking you outside the shelter. I have visited many resorts over the Alps, but I must admit that I’ve never seen such a beautiful sunset like in Seiser Alm, it’s one of those little things that just make your day. The shooting session over the big kickers line with the stunning sunset was just the cherry on top. This experience with Quiksilver has given breathtaking moments whose good memories will live on through everyone’s heart.

INSTRUCTIONS 1. PREPARATION La difficoltà di questo trick non sta nel girare un bs 360°, ma nell’eseguirlo ollando abbastanza in alto da superare l’ostacolo. Sarà quindi necessario preparare il setup alla perfezione e con il dente dell’inclinazione giusta. Fate poi qualche giro straight per capire velocità e ollie. The difficulty of this trick is not about the rotation of 360°, but about making an ollie high enough to get through the obstacle. It will therefore be necessary to prepare the setup perfectly and make the inrun with the right inclination. Then take some straight laps to figure out the speed and the ollie.

2. APPROACH Arrivate a gambe piegate sul salto, al momento di staccare ollate e con le spalle date l’impulso rotatorio. Per non ruotare fuori asse portate lo sguardo sopra la spalla sinistra (destra per i goofy). Reach the kicker with bent legs, while taking off ollie and give the rotation impulse with your shoulders.

In order not to spin off-axis, look toward your left shoulder (right one for all goofy).

3. Maneuver Raccogliete le gambe per avere più controllo ma sopratutto per non sbattere contro la recinzione. Mantenete lo sguardo in direzione di rotazione fino a vedere l’atterraggio, a questo punto bloccate testa e spalle, mentre le gambe concluderanno la rotazione. Gather your legs for a better control and most of all in order not to slam on the fence. Keep on looking towards the direction of the rotation till you can see the landing. At this point stop your head and shoulders, while your legs will complete the rotation.

4. LANDING Atterrate con il peso centrale e a gambe piegate per scaricare l’impatto su entrambe le ginocchia ed essere più stilosi. While landing put your weight centrally on the board and bent your legs to dampen the impact on both knees and to be more stylish.

INSTRUCTIONS 1. PREPARATION Se siete dotati di un talento innato e di un piede d’oro potete pensare di provare il trick direttamente su un setup simile...

Altrimenti ho qualche consiglio da darvi prima di droppare e rischiare un infortunio: 1. Girate in pista e snowpark in one-foot 2. Fate qualche run in fresca per capire come gestire la tavola in one foot. If you have a natural endowment or a hidden talent, then you can think about trying the trick on a setup like this… Otherwise I have some advices for you before dropping in and risk an injury: 1. Ride one-foot on the slopes and in the park. 2. Try some powder lines so that you can understand how to manage your board in one-foot.

2. APPROACH Se non siete sicuri della velocità necessaria, provate lo spot con entrambi i piedi allacciati. Appena vi sentite pronti, droppate e staccate dal salto a tavola piatta. If you are not sure about the necessary speed, try the spot with both feet laced up. As soon as you are ready, drop and take off the kicker with your board flat.

3. Maneuver Una volta in aria portate la gamba destra in avanti e grabbate con la mano sinistra sulla lamina frontside. La gamba slegata dovrà invece muoversi in direzione opposta per bilanciare il peso e quindi mantenere l’equilibrio duante la fase aerea. Once you are in the air bring your right leg to the front and grab with your left hand the frontside edge of your board. The unlaced leg might move towards the opposite direction, in order to maintain the balance during the aerial phase.

4. LANDING Mollate il grab e portate le gambe in posizione di riding, cercando di atterrare sul Pillow con il peso sul tail e a gambe piegate.

Se siete riusciti a domare il Pillow, mantenete il controllo e affrontate anche il secondo atterraggio evitando sempre di finire con il peso in avanti. Release the grab and lead your legs to the riding position, trying to land on the pillow with bent legs and putting your weight on the tail. If you were able to tame the pillow, now maintain the control and face the second landing keeping your weight on the tail again.

DESCRIVIMI IL PERCORSO DI DIFFERENT VISION PRODUCTION FINO ALL’ARRIVO DI SHADOWS. Marco Morandi, da tutti meglio conosciuto come Jhonny, era uno di quei riders italiani che mi divertivo a fotografare prima che smettesse definitivamente di girare. Jhonny ti chiamava a qualsiasi ora del giorno e della notte per portarsi a casa un trick fotografato e filmato ed i suoi spot non erano mai banali.

Penso che molte nuove leve avrebbero da imparare da lui il rapporto con i media, per un fotografo è fondamentale che ci sia connessione e confronto con lo snowboarder, senza idee non si porta a casa niente. Tre o quattro anni fa Jhonny decide di fare un video con la sua crew Garbage, produce qualche molti episodi filmando e facendosi filmare, ottenendo un fortissimo impatto sulla scena italiana, ma presto si accorge che deve fare una scelta per aumentare la qualità, o fa il rider o fa il filmer... e così siamo arrivati a Shadows.

DESCRIBE ME THE DIFFERENT VISION PRODUCTION JOURNEY UNTIL THE ARRIVAL OF SHADOWS. Marco Morandi, better known as Jhonny, is one of those Italian riders that I had fun shooting with before he definitively stopped riding. Jhonny was the one calling you at every hour of the day and the night just to bring home a photographed and filmed trick, and his spots have never been banal. I think that many new recruits have much to learn about the relations with the media from him, having connection and confront with the snowboarder is essential for a photographer, you won’t get anywhere without ideas.

Three or four years ago Jhonny decides to make a video with his crew Garbage, filming and being filmed he produces many episodes, obtaining a strong impression on the Italian scene. But soon he realizes that he has to make a choice to improve the quality, whether being a rider or a filmer… That’s how we came up to Shadows.

DI SHADOWS COSA TI PIACE? Di Shadows quindi ovviamente di Jhonny e dei suoi collaboratori mi piace l’umiltà, la passione e l’impegno che hanno nel loro progetto. Non li ho mai sentiti lamentarsi per troppe ore di filming o con qualche riders, non hanno nessun

CURANO MOLTO LA COMUNICAZIONE DEI LORO PROGETTI? Si, come noi di Sequence, oltre a cercare di far un bel prodotto, tengono molto anche a farlo vedere. Quindi moltissime ore di lavoro sono destinate al comunicare costantemente durante l’anno quello che succede durante gli shooting. D’altronde se questa scintilla con noi è subito scoccata è perchè Jhonny ha capito la potenzialità di un magazine freepress e noi abbiamo immediatamente intuito il grosso lavoro di comunicazione della loro crew.

ARE THEY TAKING A LOT OF CARE OF THEIR PROJECTS COMMUNICATION? Yes, like us from Sequence, besides trying to make a good result they care about showing it. So many working hours are devoted to the constant communication on what’s happening during the shootings all year round. The reason why there was right away chemistry between us it’s because Jhonny realized the potential of a freepress magazine, and we immediately grasped the great work of communication of his crew.

VA BENE, MA CI SARA’ QUALCOSA CHE NON VA? Si, eccome! Jhonny con il suo maledetto fish-eye che sono sempre in mezzo alle mie foto! Non mi piacciono troppe persone dentro le mie immagini creano confusione. Però penso che sia lo stesso per lui quando dentro le riprese si trova un mio flash!

GREAT, BUT IT CAN’T ALL BE FLOWERS AND ROSES? Of course it is! Jhonny and his damn fisheye that are everywhere in my photos!

I don’t like too many people in my pictures, they make confusion.

DUE VIAGGI PRINCIPALI NEL VIDEO? Siamo stati 10 giorni in Finlandia e 7 in Polonia. Il primo è stato un bel trip, Helsinki è una città bellissima e ricca di spot, si respira street snowboard ovunque ed in qualsiasi pub puoi incontrare crew e pro riders. Grazie anche a Matteo Maggi che vive li siamo riusciti a produrre un sacco di materiale e di altissima qualità, unico neo l’incredibile freddo. La Polonia è stata una bella esperienza ma il viaggio è stato troppo faticoso per il team, tutte quelle ore di van per arrivarci hanno consumato energie, però anche in questo trip non mancano di certo i bei ricordi.

THE TWO MAIN TRIPS OF THE VIDEO? We’ve been in Helsinki for 10 days and in Poland for 7 days. The first one was a good trip, Helsinki is a beautiful city and full of spots, you can feel street snowboarding in the air and you can meet crews and pro riders almost in every pub.

Thanks to Matteo Maggi who lives there we were able to produce a lot of material of good quality, the only cons was the incredible cold.

Poland was a great experience but the journey was too exhausting for the team, too many hours on the road totally consumed their energies.

But of course there are many good memories about that trip aswell.

RACCONTACI UN EPISODIO CHE HAI IN MENTE… Se devo parlare di action mi ha impressionato come Oivind ha affrontato il doppio kink in bs air to boardslide sgheppando il garage. Mentre tutti stavamo valutando la pericolosità dello spot lui senza shapeare e senza avvertire parte si sgheppa il garage e atterra sui gradini perfettamente ai 200 all’ora, con noi li sopra che non ci siamo quasi accorti di nulla, si gira, ci guarda e ci dice ridendo “easy si può fare”. Questo vuol dire una sana pazzia ed un controllo della tavola fuori dal comune, devo essere sincero non ho mai shootato in street con un rider così forte.

TELL US ABOUT A MEMORABLE EPISODE… If you want to know about action, then Oivind really impressed me on how he faced the double kink with a bs air to boardslide over the garage gap. While we were all evaluating the danger of the spot, without shaping anything he just kicked a gap over the garage, landing on the steps at high-speed like nothing happened. We almost didn’t notice him, he turned his head, looked at us with a smile on his face and said “easy it’s doable”. That means real madness and an outstanding control of the board, if I have to be honest I’d say that I’ve never been shooting with such a good rider before.

Absinthe ha una grande storia alle spalle, e i ragazzi che lavorano dietro al progetto sono dei veri appassionati di snowboard.

IL PROGETTO ABSINTHE DOMANI DAL TUO PUNTO DI VISTA: Quest’anno è un pò speciale, perché la crew è un pò cambiata.

Durante questa stagione Nike sta lavorando sul proprio video ed Absinthe ha accolto molti nuovi riders. È bello vedere delle facce nuove e giovani mine! Absinthe sceglie sempre bella musica ed il livello di riding è molto alto, quindi è decisamente un buon video!

E’ UNA CREW CHE ESISTE DA MOLTO TEMPO. IN COSA SI DISTINGUE? Sanno cosa stanno facendo, e lo fanno bene. Absinthe ha una grande storia alle spalle, e i ragazzi che lavorano dietro al progetto sono dei veri appassionati di snowboard. Hanno i migliori riderds nella crew, forse è per questo che si contraddistinguono sempre.

CON LORO SEI STATO IN ITALIA, COME SONO LE NOSTRE MONTAGNE? Ci siamo divertiti sulle Dolomiti, sia a San Martino di Castrozza che Cortina d’Ampezzo. Il terrain in powder è spettacolare e non c’è molta gente, quindi c’è molto da fare!

IL TUO POSTO PREFERITO PER FARE FOTO IN FRESCA? Se fai un viaggio con il gatto nel bel mezzo del Canada, non puoi sbagliare. Neve profondissima e tanti terreni differenti. Anche la powder in Giappone è una figata!

RACCONTA UN EPISODIO CON LA CREW DI DOPAMINE… Stavamo shootando a San Martino di Castrozza, un pò lontano, e siamo dovuti tornare presto per prendere l’ultima seggiovia. Describe THE Dopamine video project from your point of view: This year it’s a bit special because the crew has changed a bit. Nike is doing their own movie this season and Absinthe got a lot of new riders in the bag. It is nice to see some new faces and young killers! Absinthe is about great music and high level riding, so Dopamine is definitely a really good movie!

Absinthe HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A WHILE, what MAKES THEM stand out? Because they know what they are doing and they do it well. Absinthe has a great history and the guys behind are true snowboard passionnates. They have the best riders in their crew so that’s probably why it’s always standing out.

You’ve been in Italy with them, HOW ARE OUR MOUNTAINS? We had a really good time in the Dolomites, in both San Martino Di Castrozza and Cortina d’Ampezzo. The terrain is amazing and there are not so many people so there’s a lot to do!

What’s your favourite place to shoot in powder? Where can you get your best shots? If you go on a catboarding trip in the middle of Canada you can’t really go wrong. Really deep snow and lots of different terrains. Japan powder is really nice as well!

Tell me about AN INTERESTING episode that you HAD WITH THE crew... We were shooting in San Martino di Castrozza, a bit far away and had to leave early to catch the last lift. As soon as we got to the station, the small hut was closing and Italian locals were having beers. As we had a good day with lots of good tricks, we decided to drink some beers and grappa to celebrate. We ended up pretty drunk on the last run of the day!

QUALE E’ IL RIDER DELLA CREW CHE PIU’ TI HA ENTUSIASMATO? Sylvain Bourbousson quest’anno ha spinto un sacco con tricks pazzeschi! Victor De La Rue ha proposto diversi stili di riding ad ha veramente spaccato! Inoltre, abbiamo shootato un rail lunghissimo per 3 giorni con Cale Zima e Brandon Cocard, 69 scalini e un centinaio di try. Mi ha colpito il fatto che nessuno di loro si sia mai arreso fino a trick chiuso! Grande rispetto!

CHE TIPO DI FILMER E’ DAVID VLADYKA? Vladyka è come un orso tenero: alto, robusto, voce pesante, vive tra i monti e non gli piace la city life. È un ragazzo leale, un filmer con tanto talento che lavora solo con la 16mm. È da lungo tempo uno dei principali filmer della Absinthe.

CHE TIPO DI RAPPORTO SI CREA TRA FILMER E FOTOGRAFO DURANTE UNO SHOOTING? È sempre una relazione tra odio/amore, perchè ogni tanto si litiga per le angolature. Ma alla fine siamo sempre contenti di passare del tempo insieme shootando, soprattutto quando ci si trova in mezzo al bosco ad aspettare che il rider risalga e si prepari.

IL TRICK DI DOPAMINE CHE TI HA LASCIATO SENZA FIATO? Linee in fresca con dei bei slash e i butter ti lasciano sempre senza fiato.

LA FOTO PREFERITA CHE HAI SCATTATO DURANTE GLI SHOOTING? Mi piacciono molto quelle di Mat Schaer dove gira in powder e fa salti naturali. Ha uno stile raro, come i pochi Jake Blauvelt e Nicolas Muller!

Which rider of the crew has impressed you? And why?

Sylvain Bourbousson has been really charging this year with some crazy tricks! Victor De Le Rue got so many different styles of riding and he definitely killed it! Also, we shot for 3 days a really long rail with Cale Zima and Brandon Cocard, 69 stairs and few 100 tries. I was really impressed overall, as none of them gave up until they landed their trick! Huge respect for that!

How would you describe the filmer David Vladyka?

Vladyka is like a nice bear; he’s tall, takes space, heavy voice, lives in the mountains and don’t like city life stuff. He’s a true guy, a really talented filmer who shot only with the 16mm. He’s one of the main Absinthe filmer since a very long time What kind of relationship arise between a filmer and a photographer during a shooting? It’s always a Love/ Hate relation because you have to fight for angles sometimes.

But at the end we’re usually both really happy to spend time together when shooting, at least we’re not alone in the forest while waiting for the rider to hike up and get ready.

What’s the most breathtaking shot from the Dopamine shooting? Just powder lines with nice slashes and butters are always breathtaking.

What’s your favorite picture taken during the shootings?

I really like the ones from Mat Schaer where he shreds the powder and jump everything natural. He has the style of few people like Jake Blauvelt or Nicolas Muller!

NELL’INTERVISTA DELLO SCORSO ANNO SU SEQUENCE, AVEVI MARCATO UN TUO “CONTO IN SOSPESO” CON UN RAIL FINLANDESE. Si... su un rail super nazi ho provato per un intero pomeriggio Bs Noseslide Pretzel out, dopo 30 tentativi ho gettato la spugna ma non la sfida. Infatti quest’anno sono ritornato ed al sesto tentativo l’ho chiuso perfettamente! Anzi ti dico anche che per il doppio angolo in camera l’ho chiuso due volte. Sembra strano ma quello che lo scorso anno era un trick difficilissimo quest’anno dopo tante ore di streetrail si è trasformato in un rail quasi semplice.

ON THE LAST YEAR’S INTERVIEW ON SEQUENCE YOU TALKED ABOUT “A SCORE TO SETTLE” WITH A RAIL IN FINLAND. Yes.. Once I spent the whole afternoon trying a Bs Noseslide Pretzel out on a really hard rail, after 30 tries I threw in the towel but not the challenge. Indeed, this year I went back and after 6 tries I landed the trick perfectly! Actually, I’d even say that because of the double camera angle I landed it twice. It sounds weird but what last year seemed to be an impossible trick, after many hours riding street rails, this year it seems to be a nearly simple rail.

LA TUA VIDEO PART IN SHADOWS E’ sicuramente molto più significativa dell’anno scorso, tricks molto più difficili e nuovi spot. Ho viaggiato molto ed ho preso un sacco di cartelle per portarmeli a casa, ma non sono pienamente soddisfatto. YOUR VIDEOPART IN SHADOWS. It’s for sure much more significant than the one from last year, pretty harder tricks and new spots. I travelled a lot and I bailed many times to bring home the best results, but I’m not completely satisfied. I’d love to have some powder tricks in my videopart, the ideal would be half street and half powder tricks.

IN QUESTA INTERVISTA ABBIAMO INSERITO SOLO FOTO DI TRICK IN SWITCH, CE NE SONO MOLTISSIMI ANCHE NELLA TUA VIDEO PART. E’ STATA UNA TUA SCELTA? Avevo tutto in mente, non voglio esagerare con il paragone, ma una delle videopart più fighe che ho mai visto e che mi hanno ispirato è stata quella di J.P. Walker in un video di Stepchild dove girava solo trick in switch. Mi sono lanciato questa sfida e penso di averla portata a casa, mi piace pormi degli obbiettivi da raggiungere e con Shadows penso di averlo fatto.

IN THIS INTERVIEW WE HAVE INCLUDED ONLY PHOTOS OF TRICKS IN SWITCH, THERE ARE MANY IN YOUR VIDEO PART AS WELL. WAS IT YOUR OWN CHOICE? I had it all in mind, I don’t wanna exaggerate with the comparison but one of the coolest videopart that I’ve ever seen and that really inspired me was the JP Walker’s one from a Stepchild video where he was only riding in switch. I made a challenge to myself and I think I completed it, I’ve established some goals to reach and I think that I’ve achieved them with Shadows.

aver portato a casa due tricks per ogni spot, in molti ho solo chiuso un trick, ne avrei voluti più filmati. Avrei voluto anche qualche spot più innovativo, più creativo e mi scoccia parecchio non aver filmato un doppio kink vero, uno bello incazzato. Rimedierò sicuramente!

at least two tricks for each spot, I only landed one trick at most of them and I wish I had more tricks filmed. I would have liked to ride more original and creative spots, and I’m quite disappointed that I didn’t ride a real double kink, a kick-ass one. I will remedy for sure!

IL PODIO DEI TUOI TRICKS DELLA SCORSA STAGIONE? Non mi piace dare delle preferenze alle manovre che ho chiuso, per me sono tutti bei ricordi e grandi emozioni. Ma se proprio devo farlo direi al terzo posto Bs1 Fastplant in Polonia, secondo posto Fs 270 a Madonna di Campiglio e al primo posto Nosepress Fs 360 Out in Finlandia.

THE PODIUM OF YOUR TRICKS FROM LAST SEASON. I don’t like to give preferences to the tricks that I landed, for me all of them are good memories and great emotions. But if I have to do so, then I’d give a third place to the Bs1 Fastplant in Poland, a second place to the Fs 270 at Madonna di Campiglio and a first place for the Nosepress Fs 360 Out in Finland.

Personalmente sono diventato molto amico con Oivind, mi sta insegnando molto e grazie a lui penso che posso raggiungere un livello di snowboard ancora più alto.

Maybe that’s why they are so good in Europe and in the States, there’s a climate of positive competitiveness that allows everyone to improve own skills. CHI DI LORO TI HA IMPRESSIONATO? Oivind tutto quello che fa mi impressiona, anche se qualcuno dice che pecca un pò nello stile, ma la sua facilità nel chiudere trick è incredibile. Un giorno in Finlandia su un rail è riuscito a chiudere 4 trick in pochissimo tempo, uno di fila all’altro. Noi a faticare per portare a casa il primo e lui continuava a chiudere. Pazzesco. Nejc Ferjan mi ha colpito per la sua tranquillità nell’affrontare uno spot e Ziga Rakovec per la sua tecnica impressionante. E’ quasi tutto una questione di testa e loro ne hanno molta.

WHICH ONE OF THEM IMPRESSED YOU? Oivind never stops impressing me in whatever he does, though some people think he strays in style, but his ease in landing tricks is ridiculous. Once in Finland he managed to land 4 tricks on a rail in very little time, one after another.

We were working hard to land the first trick and he just kept landing more and more. That’s insane. I was impressed by Nejc Ferjan’s serenity in facing a spot and Ziga Rakovec’s impressive technique.

It’s all about having your head screwed on right, and they are so.

FINLANDIA. Della Finlandia non dimenticherò mai il paesaggio, la luce e ovviamente le ragazze. Bellissime. Della Finlandia mi porto anche dietro tanta esperienza che mi permetterà di alzare il mio livello di snowboard.

FINLAND. About Finland, I will never forget the landscapes, the light and obviously the girls. They’re beautiful. And what really matters is the experience I had in Finland that will allow me to improve my snowboarding skills.

POLONIA. Dico solo una cosa, Cocomo. Chi mi incontrerà in qualche pub ed ha voglia di sentire una storia incredibile sarò felice di raccontargliela.

POLAND. I will just say one thing, Cocomo. If you will ever bump into me at any pub and you would like to hear about an incredible story, then I’ll be glad to tell you about it.

PROGETTI. Voglio shootare il più possibile e fare una videopart ancora più spessa. Presto partirò per la Norvegia dove andrò a trovare Oivind che mi vuole portare in spot “spessi” ad Oslo.

Altre mete per il prossimo inverno sono la Russia e vorrei andare qualche settimana in Austria per confrontarmi con la vera powder e disegnare linee e salti natural. Ovviamente tutto filmato e fotografato.

PROJECTS. I wanna shoot as much as possible and make a banging videopart. Soon I’m leaving for Norway to visit Oivind, he wants to take me to some hardcore spots in Oslo. Another destination for the upcoming winter is Russia, also I’d like to go to Austria for few weeks to face the real powder and get some good lines and natural jumps. Obviously all filmed and photographed.

I PIRATI TU LI CONOSCI BENE. CHE TIPI SONO? Molti di loro sono buoni amici ora. C’è da dire che lavorano sodo e c’è un bel mix di creatività nella crew. Chiaramente è una movie production e la gente va e viene, quindi ogni anno è diverso, ma hanno sempre degli ottimi riders e tanta varietà nel loro snowboarding.

YOU know the pirates well, how would you describe them?

Most of them are good friends now. I’d say they are hard workers for sure and there’s a good mix of creativity in the crew. Of course it’s a Movie production and people come and leave, so it’s not exactly the same every year, but they have some really sick riders and lots of variety in their snowboarding.

I VIAGGI PIU’ SIGNIFICATIVI IN LORO COMPAGNIA? Forse il nostro primo viaggio, 8 anni fa. Abbiamo passato 3 settimane in camper nel bel mezzo della British Columbia in Canada. Era veramente freddo e intenso, ma ognuno di noi porta bei ricordi e continuiamo a parlarne quando ci vediamo. E tutti i Jib trip sono divertenti!

which are the TRIPS that impressed you the most with them?

Maybe the first one I did with them, 8 years ago. We spent 3 weeks in a camper van in the middle of British Columbia in Canada. It was pretty cold and intense, but we all have great memories and still talk about it when we meet. Every Jib trip is good too!

IL RIDER DELLA CREW CON CUI TI SEI TROVATO MEGLIO A SHOOTARE? Ci sono tanti riders gasati nella crew, non ho delle preferenze. Mi piacciono i riders creativi, che non siano pigri e che lavorino sodo. Di solito è meglio se conosci già la persona, si crea quella reciproca confidenza che rende le cose molto più semplici.

WhO is your fafourite rider to film with?

There are lots of really sick riders in the crew and I don’t have any preferences. I just like creative riders that are not lazy and are here to work hard. Usually it’s better when you already know the person, there is this mutual confidence and makes things way easier.

Di solito non do molto peso al trick, mi piacciono le foto che mi fanno venire voglia di snowboardare.

The picture you shot with them that you would put on your wall?

Maybe the one from Eirik Haugo that made the cover of their movie “Lubedence”. Or one of Lukas Goller that I really like, while doing a butter in Val Senales. It’s pretty simple, black and white, and has a lot of energy in it. Usually I don’t really care about the trick, I just like photos that makes me want to snowboard.

I PIRATI LAVORANO MAGGIORMENTE CON SUPPORTI TRADIZIONALI UN PO’ COME TE CHE USI POLAROID E PELLICOLE BIANCO E NERO. STILISTICAMENTE TI SENTI LEGATO A LORO? Certo! Abbiamo molto in comune, in quanto loro filmano con la Super 8 e la 16mm. Ogni anno realizzano un Art Book fotografico di 100 pagine ed un’esibizione mondiale nelle città meta delle loro video premiere. Mi piace poter contribuire ai loro progetti artistici, e mi piacerebbe che tutte le video production adottassero lo stesso concetto per i release dei loro video.

Historically the pirates work with camera film or with unconventional means, a bit like you when you shoot with Polaroid or with black-and-white film. Do you feel somehow stylistically related to them? Of course! We have a lot in common, as they love shooting with Super 8 and 16mm. Every year they do a 100pages Art Book of photos and a worldwide exhibition in the cities where they show their new movie. I always love to contribute to their art projects, I wish every film company adopted the same concept for their every year’s movie release.

DA DOVE NASCE QUESTA TUA PASSIONE DI SCATTARE CON PELLICOLE A SVILUPPO IMMEDIATO? C’è un anima, ed è viva. Non si tratta solo di pixel sullo schermo. Ti permette di usare corpi e pellicole differenti, il che è un vantaggio. È bello poter provare cose diverse.

Where does this passion to shoot with instant developing film come from? There is a soul and it’s alive. It’s not just pixels on your computer. That makes you use different cameras and film, which is an advantage. It’s good to try other things too.

DISTORTED REALITY, DESCRIVI IL VIDEO. Ad alcuni piace, ad altri no. Perché ha un proprio stile ed una propria direzione, alla fine è solo un video di snowboard con un sacco di riders spessi e run assurde. Secondo me è decisamente un bel video! Ottimo riding, bei scatti ed editing, direi che abbiamo raggiunto il nostro obiettivo!

Describe the movie Distorted Reality from your point of view.

Some people like it, some just don’t. Because it has its own style and own direction, at the end it’s just a snowboard movie with many sick riders and sick runs. For me it’s definitely a really nice movie! Good snowboarding, nice shots and editing, so we reached out our goal!

PERCHE’ SEI UN FOTOGRAFO E NON UN FILMER? Lavorare come filmer mi annoierebbe, sempre alla ricerca dell’angolo giusto per inglobare il take off, il trick e il landing nella stessa ripresa.

Penso sia più complicato, e se il rider non lo chiude in fretta, finisci per filmare per ore ed ore lo stesso trick. Apparte questo, non ne ho idea.

Semplicemente mi piace scattare foto, credo.

Why are you a photographer and not a filmer?

I’d be really bored to be a filmer, always looking for the right angle to get the take off, the trick, and the landing in the same shot. I feel like it’s more complicated, and if the rider doesn’t land it quickly, you might end up doing the same filming moves for hours and hours. Except that I have no idea, I just like shooting photos I guess.

Quando hai iniziato a shottare con True Colors Films? Come vi siete conosciuti? Ho sempre shootato con il mio collega Levi Luggen, e da quando è entrato a far parte di True Color Films è stata solo una questione di tempo. Ma in realtà avevo già conosciuto Nicholas Wolken ed Alvaro Vogel molto tempo prima.

When did you start shooting for True Color Films? How did you meet? I have always been shooting with my buddy Levi Luggen and as soon as he joined the True Color Films crew it was only a matter of time. But I already knew Nicholas Wolken and Alvaro Vogel before.

Alvaro Vogel con la sua crew viaggia moltissimo, alla ricerca di nuove e creative location, è importante per una video crew viaggiare molto? Alvaro Vogel travels a lot with his crew, looking for new and creative locations. Is it significant for a video crew to travel a lot? Of course, travelling is a big aspect that makes our job what might be called a dream job. We have the chance to discover many beautiful places. Although I love shooting and shredding at home in the terrain I already know.

Nelle tue immagini ami molto esasperare le luci e i contrasti, come definisci e come descrivi il tuo tipo di fotografia? È pulita ma c’è rumore, è colorata ma monocromatica… Haha non ne ho idea! Come fotografo, non smetti mai di imparare ed evolverti, così anche il tuo stile. A volte quando guardo le foto delle stagioni passate penso “Come diavolo ho potuto far qualcosa di così brutto!”.

Dall’altra parte, a volte capita che improvvisamente inizia a piacermi una foto che non ho mai considerato 2 anni prima. È difficile definire lo stile di un fotografo, se sei creativo il tuo stile si evolve sempre.

You love to intensify lights and contrasts in your photos, how would you define and describe your style of photography? It’s clean but dirty, it’s colorful but monochrome.. Haha I have no idea! As a photographer you’re always learning end evolving, so does your style. Sometimes when I look at photos from previous seasons I think “How the hell could I do something that ugly!”. On the other hand sometimes happens that I suddenly really like a photo that I didn’t even look at 2 years ago. It’s hard to define a photographer’s style, if you are creative your style evolves all the time.

Spesso sulle pagine del nostro giornale trovate tricks super spessi e spot irraggiungibili, ma ci piace anche molto lo snowboard “just for fun”, lo snowboard che potete fare o trovare proprio vicino a casa vostra, nel vostro home resort. Li abbiamo visti girare dal vivo e li abbiamo visti anche protagonisti della loro video part in “A Way We Go” l’ultimo video di Isenseven. David Bertschinger Karg meglio conosciuto come “DBK” e Stephan Maurer durante una classica session in powder a Sant Moriz, nella strada del ritorno decidono di fare una piccola gara a chi raggiunge prima il pillow di neve. Il risultato è una fantastica sequenza che racchiude l’essenza dello snowboard, non importa chi è stato il vincitore importa soltanto che chiunque di noi vorrebbe tuffarsi come nel loro ultimo scatto dentro questi metri di pura e vergine powder. Vogliamo vedervi girare e divertirvi come matti, portate con voi sempre l’arva, un buon amico e godetevi la stagione. Le montagne si stanno caricando di neve fresca!

Usually you find photos of super hard tricks or unattainable spots on the pages of our magazine, but we also really like the “just for fun” part of snowboarding, the kind of snowboarding that you can do and find right next to your home, in your home resort. We’ve seen them riding in person and we’ve seen them being protagonists of their videopart in “A Way We Go”, the last Isenseven movie. David Bertschinger Karg also known as “DBK” and Stephan Maurer during a usual powder session in Sankt Moritz, on the way back they decide to do a small competition to see who reach first the snow pillow.

The result is a beautiful sequence that enclose the pure essence of snowboarding, it doesn’t matter who’s the winner but what matters is that everyone would love to dive, as they do in this shot, in this pile of pure and virgin powder. We want to see you ride and have the time of your life, always bring with you an arva, a good friend and enjoy your season. Mountains are getting full of snow!
