MISSION PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS RALLY TO CLEAN UP STREETS 11th Annual Rockies Cleanup Event Just in Time for Home Opener WHAT:
Twenty of the Denver Rescue Mission’s New Life rehabilitation program participants rally with staff and volunteers to pick up trash in the Ballpark neighborhood, in preparation for the Colorado Rockies home opener. The Denver Rescue Mission’s Lawrence Street Shelter is a few blocks away from Coors Field. As good neighbors, DRM’s goal is to keep the ballpark area free of trash.
WHERE:
Crews gather at Denver Rescue Mission’s Lawrence Shelter 1130 Park Avenue (Lawrence St. & Park Ave.) and pick up trash for a 10 block radius around Coors Field.
WHO:
Cleanup crews totaling 40 people: 5 program participants from Champa House, a women and children’s facility offering long-term rehabilitation 15 program participants from the Lawrence Street Shelter, an emergency services facility. 20 staff and volunteers
WHEN:
Thursday, March 31, 2011 9 a.m. Crews rally at Lawrence Street Shelter 11 a.m. Crews meet at Gate C, 21st & Blake to receive a big thank you from Jim Kellog and Rockies’ staff
WHY:
Many of the men and women from DRM’s rehabilitation program have spent time on the streets. Today, they will be cleaning the same streets they used to call home. It is a powerful experience for them to come back to the streets knowing that they are on the path to recovery, and that their lives have already changed dramatically with the support of the Denver Rescue Mission.
