Inside the Summer House with Luke Gulbranson
By Joseph Palmisano
If you build it, they will come, and there’s no one better at building (he built his own cabin in the Minnesota woods) than Summer House alum Luke Gulbranson. Between building cabins, designing jewelry and cologne fragrances, being a candle maker, acting, modeling, developing a lager beer, syrup, and of course playing hockey, Luke was able to carve out some time to speak with us. He’s a fan fav and bestie with the OG of Summer House, Carl Radke. He’s not one dimensional, he’s multi-faceted and super talented at all he does. Being as busy as you are, what made you want to be involved in so many diverse and unique lines of business? Being a sports guy and driven to succeed helps to fuel my energy and desire to do my best. I like the challenge of learning new things and venturing out into the unknown.
I guess we can thank your love for hockey for putting you in the position that you are in.
Yes! Hockey seems to have been the catalyst for all that came to be. I was playing college hockey and a talent agent happened to come across me playing and as they say, the rest is history. I’m thankful for that moment because without it, I might not be where I am today doing what I love, acting. I find it extremely creative, magical, and invigorating. How did you get on Summer House? I happened to meet and become friendly with Kyle Cooke in NYC. He was telling me about a show he was involved with, we began talking, and the next thing I knew I’m at the Summer House shooting with the rest of the cast. It was a great experience with a lot of great people. Being on a show with so many people, who was the last person you text with from the house?
Carl, we’ve become good friends over the years and hang out whenever we can. Now that you’ve summered in the Hamptons for a few years, what do you like most about it?
I love the people, the small-town feel, the vibe, the beaches, the walking paths, the nature preserves, the atmosphere, and the environment, I love it all. The one thing that I don’t love is the traffic. It’s a bear getting from one place to another.
If you could put together the ultimate Summer House cast, who would it include?
Wow! That’s a great question. I’d have me, Carl, Lindsay, Alex, Andrea, Lexi, Captain Lee, Dolores, Frank Jr., Ashley Darby, Taylor, Sheana and Brock, Tom Schwartz, LaLa Kent, Candiace, Danielle, Danielle’s ex Robert, and Hannah and her husband Des. That’s who I’d have. You now also have two new products out and about. Happy Dog Lager, which is growing in popularity and availability, it’s now available on draft at all Minnesota Twins baseball games. Along with that, you have a new line of maple syrup-Luke’s Maple
Syrup. Do you sleep! Lol! You are busy, busy, busy. Food, how, why?
Well Joe, I get involved with products that I enjoy. I enjoy beer and maple syrup. It’s as simple as that.
Between living in NYC and jaunting to the Hamptons for the summer, what’s your style?
I like to wear a pair of rolled up Dickies, a Harley-Davidson shirt, and a pair of Chuck Taylor’s. If I’m getting ready to have fun in the sun, I wear shorts, no shirt, or shoes. That’s my style. To get to and from, how do you roll?
I’m a Harley-Davidson guy but, a 69/70 Charger or Chevelle SS works too. Follow Luke on IG: @Lukegulbranson
