Mike and Sandy Collins showed their stars, stripes, and Hampton Hall spirit during last
Greetings Hampton Hall Club Members,
Eric Bischofberger General Manager/COO
As summer arrives in the Lowcountry, the pace at Hampton Hall begins to ease following a vibrant spring season. The months ahead offer a more relaxed rhythm and the opportunity to enjoy time with family and friends while taking in all that the Club has to offer.
I would like to begin by recognizing our Employee of the Quarter, Anne Jackson, our Member Services Coordinator. Anne plays an important role in shaping the member experience at Hampton Hall every day. From managing social media and communications to coordinating new member orientations and supporting the many details within membership, she is at the center of it all. She works closely with Kristy, our Director of Membership, Marketing and Communications, and ensures our brand and internal messaging remains thoughtful and engaging. Anne brings a positive spirit and strong sense of community to everything she does, and we are grateful to have her on our Hampton Hall team. Please join me in congratulating her on this welldeserved recognition.
You may have noticed several recent enhancements around Hampton Hall, all designed with your comfort and enjoyment in mind. The addition of three shaded areas around our tennis courts and newly expanded pickleball courts has already made a meaningful difference. At the lakeside pool, new
commercial-grade furniture and added shade have created a more inviting and relaxing setting for your families and guests.
We are also pleased to continue offering the Westin Beach Club Membership, a valued partnership with the Westin Resort on Hilton Head Island. This program gives Hampton Hall members the option to purchase beach passes that include convenient parking, towel service, and discounts on dining, spa services, and guest rooms. It has become a popular amenity, especially when hosting family and friends for a day by the waves.
Our landscape enhancement efforts continue to make a positive impact throughout the community. Phase four has focused on improving brows, medians, and cul-de-sacs across our 1,100-acre property. At the front gate, the addition of an extra guard during peak hours is helping to ease traffic flow and create a smoother arrival experience for members, guests, and vendors.
Inside the Fitness Center, adjustments have been made to the group fitness schedule based

on helpful member feedback. These updates come under the leadership of Jake Clough, our new Sports, Recreation & Fitness Director, who has already made a great impression. I would also like to thank Beth Anderson, Director of Operations, and Michele DiCarlo, our former Sports, Recreation & Fitness Director, for their leadership during this transition. We are especially pleased that Michele continues to share her talents as our Lead Trainer.
Engagement across the Club remains strong. Our Food and Beverage program has experienced outstanding participation this year, reinforcing the importance of the upcoming Main Clubhouse renovation. The golf course also enjoyed an exceptionally active spring, highlighted by a successful tournament season, including our signature Ladies’ and Men’s Member Guest events.
Hampton Hall has made significant progress on stormwater management, an important priority for the long-term health of our community. Recent work includes completion of a retaining wall

APPRECIATION BREAKFAST
Thank you to all who helped transform our Quarterly Staff Meeting into the first ever Staff Appreciation Brunch. From the thoughtful dishes to the generosity of our volunteers and donors, the morning was a meaningful expression of the care that defines our community. This spirit of kindness is what makes Hampton Hall so special.

replacement project, comprehensive pipe cleaning throughout our 32-lagoon system, and slope erosion repairs. We have also completed the first year of our two-year dredging project. Working alongside Collins Engineers and our stormwater advisory group, we continue to implement a preventative maintenance plan and explore additional enhancements, including improved water management strategies and additional outfalls. While no system can completely eliminate risk, these efforts significantly strengthen our ability to manage large storms.
Looking ahead, long-range planning efforts continue to move forward. The Long Range Planning Committee and Board are making steady progress as they evaluate future enhancements, including the Fitness Center and Pete’s Grill, while advancing the first community-approved project—the Main Clubhouse renovation.
We are pleased to share that the Hampton Hall Main Clubhouse project has moved into the construction drawing phase, with work expected to begin this summer. The renovation will feature a refreshed casual dining space with improved acoustics, a new kitchen designed to better serve members, our first dedicated employee break room, and additional storage. Improvements to the kitchen and dining experience are at the heart of this project, and we are confident they will elevate the overall experience at Hampton Hall. These enhancements not only directly impact your member experience but also have a strong correlation to your home values. Such exciting times!
During construction, Pete’s Grill will serve as the primary dining location, with service planned Tuesday through Sunday. Members can expect a mix of events and à la carte dining for both lunch and dinner, along with expanded Sunday evening offerings. We are excited to provide opportunities for you to gather and enjoy time at your Club.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and engagement. Hampton Hall is a special place because of the people, and it is a privilege to serve this distinguished community.
Eric Bischofberger, CCM, CMCA General Manager/Chief Operating Officer

The Creative Corner: Rick Locke
Since moving to Hampton Hall in 2015, Rick Locke has found both inspiration and encouragement for his creative pursuits. A photographer since 2006, Rick is drawn to vivid color, rich textures, and the abstract beauty found in everyday scenes— often revealed through reflections, close-ups, and motion.
His featured piece, “A Solitary Light,” captured in Old Town Bluffton, reflects his signature style through its bold color palette and clean, minimalist composition. For Rick, the most rewarding moments come when an image aligns perfectly with what he envisioned—“that ‘yes, that is it’ feeling.”
After being diagnosed with a degenerative retinal condition, he now creates using his peripheral vision—an approach that inspired the catch-phrase of his website, Out of the Corner of My Eye.
Community Club Fair
The annual Community Club Fair returned on March 25, bringing members together for an evening that was as social as it was informative. Set in a lively, interactive atmosphere, the event featured live music, a festive happy hour, and the opportunity to explore the many interest-based groups within Hampton Hall—from book clubs and bocce to cards, music, and more.
A special highlight of the evening was the opportunity to recognize and toast Michele DiCarlo, our longtime Sports, Recreation & Fitness Director, as she begins a welldeserved semi-retirement. Her contributions to the Hampton Hall community have been meaningful and lasting, and it was a pleasure to celebrate her alongside so many members.
With strong attendance and such a vibrant atmosphere, this year’s Club Fair was truly one of our best yet. If you are looking to get involved or connect with others who share your interests, be sure to explore the list of community clubs on page 7 and reach out to a group leader to learn more.
“A Solitary Light” by Rick Locke
At Hampton Hall, his work has been warmly embraced by fellow members, with many incorporating his photography into their homes and commissioning pieces for their spaces. The community, along with access to the region’s vibrant arts scene and the Hampton Hall Art Club, continues to foster both creativity and connection.

Member Spotlight
For Frank and Jane Zagar, the journey to Hampton Hall was shaped by decades of hard work, a shared love of golf, and a desire to embrace a new chapter surrounded by warmth—both in climate and community.
After 35-year careers with the Kroger Company, spanning from Indianapolis to Cincinnati, Jane in Pharmacy and Frank in Information Technology, retirement offered the opportunity to reimagine daily life. With three children across Texas, Indiana, and California, and four grandchildren to visit, family has always remained at the heart of their story.
Their path to Hampton Hall began years before their full-time move. Having vacationed frequently on Hilton Head Island, they developed a lasting appreciation for the Lowcountry. In 2011, an opportunity
to play the Hampton Hall Pete Dye golf course through a reciprocal agreement introduced them to the community. They purchased a second home in 2013 before ultimately building their current home and making Hampton Hall their permanent residence.
Since arriving, Frank and Jane have embraced the lifestyle and sense of community that defines Hampton Hall Club. They enjoy participating in golf events and weekly games, while also taking advantage of the Club’s many amenities. Frank is a regular at the indoor pool and has contributed extensively to the Club through service on multiple committees, including the Hampton Hall Board of Directors, Golf Board of Directors, and Men’s Golf Society.
Beyond the Club, the Zagars remain active and engaged. They
“We knew no one when we moved to Hampton Hall, and yet we felt welcome on day one. We have established very deep friendships with several members in the community.”
are involved with The Church of the Cross and volunteer their time at God’s Goods Thrift Store. They also participate in weekly Bible studies led by fellow members. Travel remains an important part of their lives, particularly visits to see their children and grandchildren, as well as attending college and professional sporting events.
Frank & Jane Zagar
“Hampton Hall is a very warm and welcoming community that offers numerous opportunities to meet and interact.”
Most recently, they traveled to Indianapolis and Pasadena to support Indiana University football during a memorable season. One of the most meaningful aspects of their experience at Hampton Hall has been the relationships they have built. The strong sense of camaraderie and connection among members
“The teamwork required to deliver the golf course restoration project on time and on budget was very gratifying.”
has enriched their daily lives and created lasting friendships. These connections have extended beyond the community through shared travel, golf trips, and social experiences.
Frank also reflects fondly on his role as chair of the golf course restoration committee, where he worked alongside fellow members, staff, and golf course architect, Nathan Crace. The collaborative effort to enhance the course’s greens, bunkers, and drainage systems stands out as a particularly
rewarding accomplishment.
For Frank and Jane, Hampton Hall offers far more than beautiful surroundings and exceptional amenities. It provides a welcoming environment, meaningful opportunities for involvement, and a true sense of belonging that has made their retirement years both active and deeply rewarding.

The Golf Shop Refresh is complete, and we are enjoying each day in our new space!
A great deal of thought went into the new décor, along with a tremendous amount of effort from everyone involved to get a great finished product.
High-quality fixtures have replaced the older branded displays, while the updated colors provide a more modern Lowcountry look. The elevated golf bag storage creates additional floor space, and the new inset displays help give the shop a more open feel. The list goes on and on.
Most importantly, the refresh allows us to provide an even better shopping experience for our members and guests.
We hope you will stop by soon to see all that is new in the Golf Shop. Be sure to browse the latest apparel and merchandise arrivals, and remember that all Hampton Hall members receive 20% off apparel purchases in the Golf Shop.

Summer Renewal at the Spa
Summer in the Lowcountry means more time outdoors — on the course, at the courts, and by the pool. With the added sun and activity, it is also an ideal time to prioritize restoration and skin care.
Our rejuvenating facials are especially beneficial during the summer months, helping to restore hydration, calm sun-exposed skin, and maintain a healthy, radiant glow.
Taking time for self-care is not an indulgence — it is an investment in your overall wellness. Whether you are preparing for a special evening at the Club or simply seeking a quiet moment to unwind, the Spa offers a peaceful retreat right here at Hampton Hall.
Appointments are available throughout the summer. We invite you to make wellness part of your seasonal routine and enjoy a refreshed, revitalized you.

Find Your Favorite: The Missing Piece in Fitness
BY JAKE CLOUGH, Sports, Recreation & Fitness Director
Consider the most active people you know, the ones who maintain a consistent routine year after year. If you were to ask them about their favorite form of exercise, many would have a clear answer. It may be something simple or something unexpected, but often, there is a sense of enjoyment attached to it.
Now consider how naturally this idea exists in other areas of life. You likely have a favorite meal, a favorite band, a favorite vacation destination. These are the things you look forward to, the things you choose without much thought, the things that bring a sense of familiarity and enjoyment. Now consider that same
question in the context of fitness. What is your favorite exercise? For many, the answer is not immediately clear.
Enjoyment plays a meaningful role in consistency. When an activity feels engaging or rewarding, even in small ways, it naturally becomes easier to return to. This is less about discipline and more about discovery. It is difficult to form a true preference without first experiencing a range of options. In many ways, fitness is no different than food, travel, or music. Taste is developed over time.
Personally, I did not try sushi until my late twenties, nor did I experience authentic Indian cuisine until a few years later. Today, both
are among my favorites. Prior to that, I might have assumed they simply were not for me, not because I disliked them, but because I had never experienced them. Exercise often follows a similar path. There are far more options than most people realize, from strength training and conditioning to mobility work, rowing, cycling, balance training, and countless variations within each. It is entirely possible that something you would truly enjoy is still waiting to be discovered.
When that discovery happens, the experience of exercise begins to shift. It becomes less of an obligation and more of a valued part of your routine. Consistency feels
Try a Sculpt & Tone class with Joy
more natural, and progress tends to follow. Over time, fitness becomes integrated into your lifestyle in a way that is both sustainable and rewarding.
At Hampton Hall, our goal is to help you find that fit. Whether through thoughtfully designed group classes, one-on-one personal training, or a guided introduction to new modalities, we aim to create opportunities for exploration within a supportive and welcoming environment. Group classes offer variety, energy, and a sense of community, while personal training provides a more tailored approach,
allowing for a deeper understanding of what works best for your body and your goals. For those unsure of where to begin, our team is always available to help you navigate the options and find a starting point that feels both comfortable and engaging. Finding something you enjoy can change the trajectory of your fitness journey. It has a way of making everything else feel more approachable and more sustainable. And once you do find it, sharing that experience can be just as impactful. You may very well help someone else discover their own favorite along the way.
Introducing Joy Smith
You will be seeing much more of Joy around the Fitness Center, and we are pleased to welcome her to the team.
Originally from Thailand, Joy brings 13 years of experience in group fitness, with a diverse background that includes kickboxing, HIIT, boot camp, small group training, core conditioning, Les Mills BodyPump, as well as mobility and balance training.
Joy takes a balanced, reallife approach to fitness. Her philosophy centers on feeling strong, energized, and confident—both in and beyond the gym. She creates a supportive and encouraging environment where participants feel challenged, capable, and comfortable progressing at their own pace.
Married and a proud dog mom to three pups, Joy is passionate about helping others build consistency and confidence through simple, effective routines. As she shares, “My goal is simple: help you show up, stay consistent, and feel your best.”
Consider one-on-one personal training with Michele, Romeo, Skylar or Jake.

Hampton Hall Charitable Fund
The Hampton Hall Charitable Fund has hosted two successful events in recent months, each reflecting the generosity and spirit of our community.
The Charity Par 3 Golf Tournament remains a favorite among golfers and non-golfers alike. We are proud to share that this year’s event was sold out! Proceeds benefit the Women’s Cancer Treatment Center at Beaufort Memorial Hospital and Children’s Cancer Partners. The mission of CCP is to assist families with travel-related expenses during a child’s cancer treatment in Charleston. Representatives from both organizations spoke at the dinner to express their gratitude for Hampton Hall’s generosity.
The Fashion Show on April 28 was a beautiful day of Spring flowers, lunch, raffles and fun for the 120 lovely ladies who attended. Proceeds from the Fashion Show go toward grants that are awarded in November each year.
For those who were unable to attend but would like to contribute, donations are always welcome. Please contact Ellen Arnold for more information.
Looking ahead, the very popular Holiday Home Tour is scheduled for December 13. If you would like to consider being a part of it this year, contact Terry Claus for more information.
The Charitable Fund will also host a summer Food Pantry Donation Day and a School Supply Drive. Additional information will be shared in the coming weeks.
Members interested in learning more about the Hampton Hall Charitable Fund may contact Lori Desing at desing5@aol.com or visit hamptonhallclubsc.com/charitable-fund.
