Dear Hampton Hall Members, Thank you all for warmly welcoming me as your community’s new GM/COO. One question asked at my first Coffee with the GM was, “What surprises have you seen at Hampton Hall Club since you have been on board?” The first thing that came to mind was a positive surprise that remains valid as I write to you today.

It is nearly overwhelming how welcoming and kind the membership of Hampton Hall is. While this may seem like an odd response, kindness and a genuine sense of welcome is not commonly found in private clubs and gated communities. I am honored and privileged to be a part of a team dedicated to excellence through continuous improvement and to be a part of a community that has such a positive culture of caring. Thank you again for the warm reception and allowing us to serve you and your family.

As the holiday season is here, I’d like to reflect on a few of the projects we have achieved throughout the year. These projects are a result of hard work, dedication, and care from committees, operations, your Board, and ultimately you and your families.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making these projects a success.

Splash Pad Project

Golf Course Restoration

The splash pad is a special place at the lakeside pool for the club’s kids to have fun and make lasting memories with their families. The splash pad project has been completed with an enhanced look and increased functionality. We look forward to the children’s continued enjoyment of this refreshed amenity.

New tee boxes, greens, bunkers, and extensive drainage work has resulted in a magnificent polishing of your Pete Dye golf course. The positive feedback continues to flow in with the great work of Superintendent Matt Sapochak and his team in effort with the Golf Board and Course Architect Nathan Crace.

Security Enhancements

The parking lots for both clubhouses have been milled and replaced with new asphalt, resulting in a clean look, safe walk to the clubhouses, and protection of the physical assets of your club. In addition, we have successfully rejuvenated nearly twelve miles of roads in the community to preserve the life expectancy in coordination with the reserve study.

Security was one of my main priorities when starting at Hampton Hall Club. We have worked on state-of-the-art gate cameras, more secured back gate access, limited contractor hours, increased patrols, strengthened relationship with Bluffton Police Department, perimeter fence additions/ repairs, and pedestrian gates with fob access only.

We will continue to keep security as a priority of Hampton Hall and appreciate everyone’s efforts in keeping our community safe and secure as possible.

Pete’s Grill Refresh The refresh of Pete’s bar and grill room was simultaneously completed during the golf course restoration project. The design has provided a more inviting setting for everyone in the community to enjoy a casual dining atmosphere. The updated sports room with various TVs and activities makes it a great spot to catch any game or televised event.

Parking Lot Resurfacing

Common Grounds Landscape Plan The first phases of our common grounds project in the community have been carried out to replace the aging landscaping in common areas. The new and improved landscaping has been turning heads and creating a lot of positive buzz in the neighborhood. More to come in 2024!

Thanks again to everyone in the community that has assisted in the success of these projects and numerous other projects that took place in 2023. We look forward to continued success in 2024 with the strategy of maintaining and enhancing Hampton Hall Club in an intentional, aligned effort.

Continued from page 3 A heartfelt thank you to all the Board and Committee members that took time to serve Hampton Hall Club this year. I’d like to personally thank Mr. Frank Zagar as he transitions off the Board of Directors this year.

As the President of the Board in 2023, and service on both Community and Golf Boards prior, Mr. Zagar has provided servant leadership in countless strategic actions and support of the management team to carry out operational items that ultimately results in members enjoying their community. It has been a pleasure working with Mr. Zagar and we look forward to him getting a significant amount of time back in his schedule to enjoy Hampton Hall Club with his fellow members! Also, a special shoutout to Mrs. Zagar for her patience and support in Mr. Zagar’s volunteerism for the community over the past years.

In closing, I would additionally like to thank all the members that contributed to the holiday fund that impacts all the employees that work hard at Hampton Hall all year round.

The Ladies’ Mix & Mingle Luncheons were launched by the Membership Advisory Group two years ago and continue to be a great way for new and long-time members to meet one another! Thank you to Ambassadors Jill Freedman and Megan Holtslander for facilitating icebreakers, making many introductions, and helping grow friendships at the Club.

Upcoming luncheons are scheduled for Wednesdays, January 17 and March 6.

MARSHA WATKIS

Marsha has been a dedicated member of our dining service team since 2008! Originally from Jamaica, she moved to the Lowcountry in 2003 where she is raising her daughters Ash-Leigh (24) and Gavian (11). Marsha’s favorite aspect of Hampton Hall is the members, and her peers appreciate her willingness to step in and step up where ever she is needed.

OLENA BARNHILL

Olena Barnhill has served on the administrative team in accounts receivable for nearly four years.

Before joining us at Hampton Hall Olena worked at Belfair and for the International Junior Golf Academy. Olena is a Ukrainian American and enjoys traveling, playing tennis, and spending time with her husband Scott and son Brently (17). She enjoys the atmosphere at Hampton Hall and said, “The job is fun when you enjoy your work and the people around you.”

e thank you for your help as you graciously reach out to fellow members, making sure they are enjoying their new club.

Your Club’s Ambassadors warmly greet new members and make them feel at home. Their role is essential in the Club’s mission to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and comfortable environment. Whether it’s a friendly email or phone call, an invitation to play golf, tennis or pickleball, or an opportunity to mix and mingle at a dining event, Ambassadors help build connections and spark friendships. Neighbors become friends and friends become family!

Hampton Hall welcomed nearly 60 new property owners and 35 new golf members January through November 2023. If you are a new member and haven’t connected with your ambassador and are ready to do so, please contact your Membership team, Kristy Stewart and Taylor Newcomb, and we’ll be happy to introduce you!

Hampton Hall’s Those of Prose Book Club has kicked-off their 14th annual book drive, inviting you to donate NEW children’s books to benefit three local organizations: The Boys and Girls Club (Bluffton), The Children’s Center (Hilton Head Island) and CAPA (Beaufort). Please deliver books by Tuesday, December 12.

Books can be dropped off in a box on the porch at 247 Farnsleigh Avenue, or mailed directly to that address.

memberSPOTLIGHT Rita Griffith & Glenn Isaac

B

efore moving to South Carolina, Rita and Glenn were living in the northeast. Rita worked as a paralegal, then transitioned to being a stay-at-home mom to her four children in New Jersey. She was also involved in various community-based activities, holding the titles of PTA President, Chairwoman of her church’s social committee, Catechism teacher, and track and soccer coach.

Once her children were old enough, she began working in corporate America in various management positions.

Headquartered in Vermont, Glenn was a sales manager for Controlled Energy at Bosch and Stiebel Eltron and was a member of the team that brought tankless water heaters to the market in the United States.

Rita had always planned to retire to Hilton Head Island.

Her hometown friends were living there, and she had been visiting since the late 80’s. Glenn was traveling for business and experienced 100-degree temperature changes, which prompted his desire to move south. Rita became widowed for the second time in 2001, and by 2007 she felt the need 10 | Winter 2023-24

to make the move to Hilton Head. During that time, she reconnected with high school friends, Glenn being one of them, and before they knew it, Rita and Glenn were headed to South Carolina together.

Rita and Glenn were searching for a place to rent, but couldn’t find anything on the island that could hold Rita’s large furniture. They ended up renting on Ashford Place in Hampton Hall. After three months of living in Bluffton, they reconsidered moving to the island. Rita and Glenn loved the Hampton Hall community, the amenities, social events, its proximity to the airport and the instant friends they made.

Everyone was just happy to be here!

They designed and built their Hampton Hall home in 2012. Glenn always says, “Rita built the house and I built the garage (with a lift, full shop, TV).” Rita enjoys the fitness center, bocce, euchre, club social events, and taking long walks within the community. She’s an Ambassador for the club and enjoys being on the social and fitness advisory groups.

Glenn is known happily in Hampton Hall as “the guy with Rita.” Glenn can be found in his garage working on an old Morris Minor, MG or Saab, and every other year he

Glenn also enjoys participating in car clubs and volunteering for the Concours D’Elegance.

According to Rita and Glenn, “If peace and serenity are what you are looking for, Hampton Hall is the place for you.

enjoys setting up his extensive Lionel trains display on the back porch.

Outside of Hampton Hall, Glenn and Rita enjoy taking out the Saab convertible, going to dinner, being on the water and traveling. All of Rita’s children and their families have since moved to the area as well. Two of them live on Daniel Island, one is in Summerville, and another is in Savannah.

She’s thrilled to have them nearby! Between Glenn and Rita, they have six children, seven beautiful grandchildren, and they are expecting their eighth in November!

Glenn started Home Tech Innovations, The Garage Guy, a small business that handles epoxy garage floor coatings and storage systems, after learning that people from the north were not accustomed to not having basements. hamptonhallclubsc.com | 11

here are many great activities happening at the golf course, and it is so nice to have our smiling members back! Everyone is happy to return to our beautiful Pete Dye course and we have been rewarded with a successfully upgraded golf course to play. All of the hard work and patience to execute the restoration project paid off. The greens are great, the bunkers play wonderfully, and the drainage is a significant improvement. Many memorable events took place as we celebrated our return to golf, including the Ribbon Cutting Reception and Grand Reopening, Men’s Member Guest, Ladies’ Member Member, and The Ragland Cup to name a few.

It’s great to be back home!

golfCORNER Introducing: ELI FRANCIC Assistant Golf Professional

Originally from Pennsylvania, Eli moved to South Carolina and joined the Hampton Hall team in October 2021. Eli started playing golf with his grandfather and fell in love with the game at age 11. He recently passed his Playing Ability Test (PAT) and is a self-proclaimed regrip specialist. His favorite part about working at Hampton Hall so far is the people. He appreciates the opportunity and has a lot of fun on the job. You can contact Eli for lessons, and make sure you ask him about his holes-in-one at age 13!

Shelley enjoys how welcoming (and patient!) the members and staff have been as she settles into her new role at the club. You can contact Shelley for lessons or stop by the golf shop and say hi!

ampton Hall is 1 of 21 Certified Audubon Sanctuary Golf Courses in South Carolina.

The process of Hampton Hall becoming an Audubon Sanctuary Golf Course began in 2012, and we officially became certified in 2013.

Every three years the golf course must go through recertification. The golf course was inspected by an Audubon representative in October of this year. We received positive feedback on the Audubon display in the Golf Clubhouse and on promoting wildlife.

The representative would like to see the Hampton Hall community create a Resource Advisory Group. The group does not have to be large (3-6 people) or meet often. Group functions would include: • A bird count once a year • Cleaning out bird boxes in December or January

• Reporting on occupation of bird boxes • Repairing bird boxes • Suggestions to improve wildlife habitat • Improving the butterfly garden at the Golf Clubhouse.

Guest Policy Reminder

With the holidays approaching, please be reminded of the Club’s Guest Policy. It is the Club’s goal to provide a relaxing, enjoyable and safe atmosphere for members and their guests when visiting the fitness center and pools. This policy is in place to help achieve the highest level of enjoyment for all members.

Invited guests are welcome to enjoy the Club amenities, but guest usage must be monitored for the safety of all members. Accordingly, your guests must be registered with the fitness center staff before entering the fitness center or pool areas. The Guest Pass Registration form is available to all members on the website under MY CLUB, and guest passes are issued at the fitness center front desk.

1. Members must register all guests with the fitness center staff in order to use the fitness center and/or outdoor pool.

2. All members and guests must present their ID or guest card to enter the pool and/or fitness center.

3. There is a $5 per day guest charge for all guests over the age of 16. All registered guests will receive a temporary guest pass. Unregistered guests will be asked to leave the facilities.

4. All guests must be accompanied by a member.

5. Exceptions to rules 3 and 4 include immediate family members who reside outside a 50 mile radius from the Club. *Immediate Family members

6. Guest passes may be requested for up to two (2) consecutive weeks and up to a maximum total of four (4) weeks per calendar year per each guest.

7. Anyone wishing to have more than 5 guests (other than immediate family) must make prior arrangements with the Sports, Recreation & Activities Director.

Membership privileges, including access to the amenities, are reserved for the member, their spouse and dependent children under age 23. All others are considered guests of the member.

Junior Tennis

Freezing Temperatures and Clay Courts

W

e are fortunate to have Har-Tru tennis and bocce courts at Hampton Hall. As temperatures begin to drop, we are here to remind you of best practices while using the courts.

Men’s Pick-up Tennis

Our courts have an underground watering system, which means water is released from beneath the surface and sits on the courts for an extended period of time. That water freezes with a drop in temperature and will begin to thaw as the sun comes out the next day.

You’ll find the courts become muddy after thawing, which creates hazardous playing conditions.

Hampton Hall member men’s tennis players 3.0 or higher are invited to play a friendly pick-up doubles game.

To ensure the safety of all members, there will be days when the water will be turned off for both the tennis and bocce courts. The courts may seem dry in certain areas because of this, but it will hopefully prevent freezing, and the courts can remain open for daily play and future events.

Coach Paul offers after-school clinics for ages 7-15 to get kids enjoying the lifelong sport of tennis. Kids utilize the smaller rackets and low compression balls to make learning quick and fun!

Rusty Rackets is a fun program for anyone who may have played as a child or young adult and is looking to get back into playing. Weekly dropin classes will get you hitting the ball again and reintroduce you to tennis, no matter how long you have been away! (Players must have prior tennis experience.)

year-round “Club Casual” dress code for all clubhouse dining venues.

• Hats are not permitted.

• Dress shorts are permitted.

Member Wine Program

You may email Mike Bican at mbican@hamptonhallsc.com to purchase wine. Hampton Hall offers this wonderful amenity for all members with the price of the wine plus 20% mark up and applicable tax. Orders must include full or half cases only. Please note in some instances the vendor will charge a fee when half cases are ordered.

Join us in the Community Clubhouse Tavern for drink and appetizer specials on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:30 PM. Enjoy live music by a variety of local musicians. Be sure to make reservations to stay for dinner!

HAMPTON HALL CHARITABLE FUND

T

he Hampton Hall Charitable Fund continues to be active in helping and raising money for local charities.

After a successful school supply drive, we planned a Holiday Home Tour for Sunday, December 3. Another community favorite, the Annual Toy Drive takes place December 9.

We have numerous fun events planned for 2024, starting out with a Valentine’s Wine Tasting on Saturday, February 10. The Annual Par 3 Golf Tournament, which raises funds for local cancer patients, will take place at Hampton Hall on Friday, March 22. This special event will also include raffle prizes, games, and a cocktail party following golf. Lots of planning is in the works for these and future HHCF events.

Details will be announced on the Club website and in the weekly Highlights eblast.
