A Private Club Community in the Heart of the Lowcountry
HAMPTON HALL CLUB
Greetings Hampton Hall Members,
As the crisp air of fall returns to the Lowcountry, Hampton Hall is once again buzzing with excitement. From festive traditions like Trunk or Treat to our Thanksgiving celebrations, there’s something for everyone this season. Be sure to mark your calendars and register early—our food and beverage team continues to see very high levels of engagement at these memorable events. We can’t wait to see you, your families, and guests enjoying all the fun the Club has to offer.
We continue to celebrate Hampton Hall’s first-ever recognition as a “Distinguished Club” by Boardroom Magazine in partnership with Forbes Travel Guide. Being named a Distinguished Club means that as a private club, Hampton Hall has proven excellence in service, facilities, financial health, and
overall member experience. This honor is awarded after a specialized third-party, merit-based evaluation that focuses on hospitality, staff engagement, and personalized service.
It was such a pleasure seeing more than 400 members at our Distinguished Club Recognition and Cocktail Party. The celebration continued with a ribbon cutting conducted by the Hilton HeadBluffton Chamber of Commerce, featuring both Bluffton and Hilton Head Island mayors, along with over 150 local vendors, partners, and community leaders in attendance. This achievement is a testament to the pride, passion, and excellence displayed daily by our members and our outstanding operations team. Thank you for being a part of this significant milestone!
Your ongoing feedback and voice are a key driver in our evolution of excellence through continuous improvement. The results from
the first half of our rolling Annual Member Satisfaction Surveys show steady growth in satisfaction across all departments—evidence of our shared commitment to continuous improvement. If you didn’t receive a survey during the initial round, you can expect to be included in the second distribution later this fall. Your input matters and is greatly appreciated.
Looking ahead, please save the date for our Annual Meeting on Monday, December 1, 2025. We’ll reflect on the many achievements of 2025 (it has been a busy year!) and look ahead to an even brighter 2026.
Thank you for being such an integral part of what makes Hampton Hall an extraordinary community. We look forward to seeing you around your Club soon.
Respectfully,
Eric Bischofberger, CCM General Manager/Chief Operating Officer

Joe and Susan Ahern’s story began over thirty years ago in Chicago, where their shared love of horses first brought them together. At the time, Joe was serving as President and General Manager of the local ABC-TV station, while Susan was the Director of Guest Relations at Hotel Nikko Chicago. Joe was an avid polo player, and Susan had grown up riding horses—an instant connection that sparked a lifelong partnership.
Joe’s distinguished career in broadcast media spanned several decades, most notably in Chicago, where he played a pivotal role in hiring Oprah Winfrey and was instrumental in the syndication of The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1986. His career took the couple to London early in their marriage, where Joe served as Senior Vice President and
Managing Director of Broadcasting for Walt Disney Television International. In this role, he was responsible for launching the Disney Channel in Italy, Spain, and Germany, and overseeing Disney’s television operations in the U.K. and France.
Of all his professional accomplishments, Joe considers his time as CEO of the 100 Club to be the most meaningful. The non-profit organization provides critical support to the families of first responders lost in the line of duty, including college scholarships for their children and assistance for those still serving. Under Joe’s leadership, the organization raised more than $4 million in funding.
Joe and Susan have two adult daughters: Kate (26), who lives in Chicago, and Allison (25), who resides in Barcelona, Spain.
“Joe and Susan are deeply grateful for the community, friendships, and neighbors they’ve come to cherish.”
Their Lowcountry story began in the spring of 2020, when they first visited the area and were captivated by the beauty of the beaches and the canopy of trees. Joe discovered Hampton Hall and purchased a home on Wicklow Drive; Susan joined him shortly after, and together they found everything they were looking for in the community.
After exploring several neighborhoods, the Aherns knew Hampton Hall was the perfect fit. Susan picked up pickleball in the fall of 2024 and says the game “saved her life,” thanks to the warm welcome and immediate friendships she found on the courts. She quickly began taking weekly lessons when Head Pickleball Instructor Will Brisco joined the staff.

playing in two pool leagues each week—his favorite way to stay active and social.
Today, Joe and Susan never miss a chance to share with new residents and friends just how special Hampton Hall is to them. They are deeply grateful for the community, friendships, and neighbors they’ve come to cherish.
PGA Junior League Recap
BY BRENT CARLSON PGA Director of Golf
Our ninth PGA Junior League season is officially in the books! What an incredible program this continues to be. It’s always a joy to see new friendships form, skills sharpen, and most importantly—fun being had by the next generation of golfers.
Coach Blake and I did our best to strike the right balance of friendly competition and pure enjoyment throughout the season.
Each season includes both practices and matches. Practices cover all aspects of the game—from swing mechanics to rules and etiquette—while our matches are held both at home and away against other local clubs.
PGA Junior League matches are nine-hole competitions played in a unique team format. Each match consists of four separate games, with two-person teams playing match play against a pair from the opposing team. Each game is worth three points, for a total of twelve points per match.
For me, the highlight is always watching the players interact—cheering each other on, sharing laughs, and truly enjoying the experience. It’s like a miniature version of what we see every day with our members: people bonding over the love of the game.
Thank you to everyone who offered cheers and encouragement along the way. Your support made our players feel welcome and proud to be part of this special program.
2025 HHC PGA JR LEAGUE TEAM
The future of golf looks bright—this next generation is well on their way!
On July 19, we welcomed families for a fun-filled day on the course. Young golfers kicked off their experience with drinks, snacks, and a gift before heading out to play.
The grand prize—a brand-new junior set of golf clubs—was won by Madison Neese, bringing big smiles to the Neese family. But the best part of the day— watching families enjoy the game together and make memories out on the course.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for a day full of fun, laughter, and lasting moments at Hampton Hall!

Golf Course Maintenance with Nature in Mind
MATT SAPOCHAK Director of Golf Maintenance & Agronomy
As a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Golf Course, Hampton Hall Club is committed to environmental stewardship in all aspects of course maintenance—including the careful and responsible use of fertilizers and pesticides.
We use many of the same products found at home improvement stores or applied by lawn care services throughout Bluffton. Fertilizers include standard forms of nitrogen, potassium, and phosphate, along with natural materials like lime and gypsum to support healthy turf.
The pesticides and insect control products we use are similar to those commonly used around residential homes, and often contain the same ingredients found in pet-safe treatments like flea collars and topical solutions.
Most importantly, our team follows industry best practices to minimize the use of all products— striking a balance between excellent playing conditions and the protection of our members, wildlife, and the surrounding ecosystem.

Why Fall is the Best Time to Start a Fitness Routine
BY MICHELE DICARLO, CPT/TPI CERTIFIED Sports, Recreation & Fitness Director
Fall is often overlooked as a prime time to start a new fitness routine, but it actually offers a unique combination of environmental, psychological, and lifestyle benefits that make it ideal. Here’s why fall might just be the best season to jumpstart your fitness journey:
Perfect Weather for Outdoor Workouts
Fall offers crisp, cool air that’s refreshing, not too hot, not too cold. This makes running, hiking, biking, or walking far more enjoyable and sustainable than in the heat of summer or chill of winter.
• Less humidity = less fatigue and sweat overload
• Beautiful scenery = motivation boost
“Back-to-School” Mentality Resets Your Routine Autumn brings a sense of structure and fresh starts—thanks in part to the ingrained “back-to-school” mindset from childhood. This psychological reset can be powerful for forming new habits.
• More likely to plan, schedule, and commit
• Feels like a new chapter before the year ends
More Predictable Schedules
Summer often comes with travel, inconsistent routines, and social events. Fall tends to normalize routines as work and school schedules stabilize.
• Easier to create a regular workout plan
• Fewer disruptions to derail your progress
Seasonal Foods Support Wellness
Fall is harvest season, which means plenty of nutrientrich, whole foods are in abundance—think sweet potatoes, apples, squash, pumpkins, and leafy greens.
• Natural fuel for workouts
• Great time to build better eating habits too
Get Ahead of the New Year Rush
Starting in the fall gives you a head start on everyone waiting for January. You build consistency now, so you don’t have to scramble to “get in shape” come New Year’s.
• Less crowded gyms and classes
• You’ll feel ahead of the game, not behind
Boosts Mood and Energy as Days Get Shorter Exercise helps combat the seasonal dip in mood that can come with shorter daylight hours.
• Improves mental health and combats seasonal depression
• Increases energy during darker, colder months
Build Momentum Before the Holidays
Getting into a fitness routine now helps you stay grounded and focused before the holiday season’s indulgences and distractions.
• You’re less likely to overdo it at holiday meals
• You’ll maintain balance and self-discipline
Fall is a season of change—leaves turn, temperatures shift, and routines stabilize. Why not harness that natural momentum to change your own habits for the better?
If you’d like help creating a beginner-friendly fall fitness routine, check out the Fall Training Special.

This summer Hampton Hall Kids enjoyed bocce and a Wildlife Scavenger Hunt.
The Hampton Hall Charitable Fund (HHCF) had a busy and impactful spring and summer— and it’s all thanks to the continued generosity of our Hampton Hall residents!
Since 2019, HHCF has donated more than $71,000 to Cancer Services at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. These funds, raised through our annual Spring Par 3 Golf Tournament, have supported the purchase of advanced surgical equipment that improves the speed and accuracy of breast cancer removal. Additional donations have helped fund Smart Curve Mammography Systems, Breast Biopsy Systems, and Welch Allyn Vital Signs Monitors—just to name a few.
Be sure to scan the QR code in this article to view a special thank-you message from Dr. Grahovac.
On August 1, HHCF delivered much-needed school supplies to Whale Branch Elementary in Beaufort. With the help of our members, two SUVs were filled to the brim with essential items to help students and teachers start the school year strong. Whale Branch Elementary sends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed!

MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY
The Charitable Fund is deeply grateful for the unwavering support of Hampton Hall residents. Together, we are truly making a difference in the lives of families throughout Beaufort County.
Today, the garden supplies fresh ingredients for the Club’s dishes and drinks—and serves as a peaceful, living thank you.
HEROES APPRECIATION GARDEN
About a year ago, Dawn and Richard DeSimone noticed the neglected kitchen garden behind the clubhouse and they both agreed, “That’s not the Hampton Hall way.” As active volunteers with the Lowcountry Foundation for Wounded Military Heroes (LFWMH), they saw a chance to restore the space with purpose.
With support from LFWMH, they transformed the garden into the Heroes Appreciation Garden, dedicated to the Hampton Hall kitchen staff in gratitude for their hard work supporting the foundation’s annual Golf Classic and Auction.
New beds were added, herbs donated, and volunteers stepped in to create a thriving, organic herb garden. Today, it supplies fresh ingredients for the Club’s dishes and drinks— and serves as a peaceful, living thank you. Feel free to wander by anytime, and admire the peaceful, herb-filled space.
