HIGH STANDARDS

It’s been another busy month; as I mentioned in my last column, this time of year brings many invitations to events, and I’ve spent more time on the road and in the air over the last few weeks than I have done before. Given fuel prices and rumours of jet fuel shortages, timing could be better – but we’ve made it to the other end.

One of those events was the annual Verification of Lubrication Specifications – or VLS, for short – conference, where I was joined by the usual automotive journalists and a host of industry delegates there to support VLS’ cause.

A full round-up will appear in the July/August edition, including an interview with the superb Alan Outhwaite. He is the chairman of the VLS Technical Review Panel (TRP), a group of industry experts who give their time voluntarily to review cases about lubricant products.

The TRP reviews evidence about a claim, including desk research and, where necessary, independent laboratory testing. They make a recommendation about whether the product is compliant or not, which is passed to the VLS secretariat.

The secretariat then enters into dialogue with the Named Party. If the product has been found to be not compliant, the objective of that dialogue is to educate the Named Party about the issue and ensure they take steps to bring the product into compliance. All of the evidence the TRP receives is anonymised.

I’ve had the pleasure of Alan’s company many times, and he is one of the industry’s gentlemen. His calmness, warmth, and ability to simplify what is an incredibly complex – and sometimes emotive – topic is admirable.

During the lunch, it was revealed to the swarm of journalists that news would be entering our inbox about an intriguing development. Shortly afterwards, indeed, that news landed that VLS had updated its marketing claims guidelines.

In the press release, the new guidance was described as “more stringent” to ensure endusers are better protected. This follows a reported increase in cases, with those products stating “misleading or incorrect” claims. I should point out that a claim does not mean automatic guilt – that is why the TRP is in place to investigate.

You can read the logic and discover what the guidelines state in the issue (page 16), as well as TotalEnergies’ stance. I know that VLS is keen for more motor factors to be aware of its work, increase the communication up and down the supply chain, and help the organisation meet its objectives for the good of the sector. It is not for me to say you should or not, but if you’re interested in learning more about VLS, visit www.rdr.link/FBC001

Elsewhere in this edition, Julie Hayes, Ben’s specialist services lead, answers questions in response to the automotive industry charity’s yearly support figures (page 12). When asked about the challenges motor factors, in particular, are facing from a health and well-being perspective, she said: “Motor factors can face a range of pressures, including stress from demanding workloads, long hours, staffing shortages, and physical issues from the nature of their roles. Handling tight margins, customer expectations, and targets can also be stressful.

“For some, financial concerns and trying to maintain a work-life balance can add to the stress. Stress can build over time and affect a person’s mental and physical health and well-being.”

Have a great June.

JAYAR OPENS SLEAFORD BRANCH

Jayar Car Parts has announced that its new Sleaford branch is open for business.

Led by Branch Manager, Georgia Doherty, the new site –based in Sleaford Business Park, East Road – welcomes customers following months of preparation, planning, and development by the Jayar team.

Prior to opening, Jayar says the new branch had attracted strong interest from local workshops and businesses, with many trade accounts created ahead of the official opening.

The family-owned motor factor –celebrating 50 years of serving the trade in 2026 – is confident that workshops in Sleaford and nearby areas will take advantage of the new site on its doorstep.

Georgia said: “We’re incredibly excited to officially open today. There’s been a huge amount of hard work from everyone

involved in getting the branch ready, and we’re proud of what we’ve built here.”

e Sleaford site has been completely renovated following the vacancy of the previous tenants, with the team overseeing everything from the layout and warehouse setup to operational planning and staff onboarding. Jayar says new local employment opportunities have been created too.

JAYAR CAR PARTS

Jayar Car Parts has appointed Darren Wykes and Marc Wise as a consultant and assistant general manager respectively.

Darren, a former Motor Parts Direct managing director, is tasked with identifying new branch opportunities, strengthening operations and bolstering efficiency and performance. Meanwhile, Marc is to be the central point of contact for Jayar’s regional managers, strengthening communication and collaboration across the network.

Both join the family-owned motor factor as it celebrates 50 years of serving the trade. It is expanding and developing its network, with Independent Motor Factors recently acquired, taking Jayar’s branch network to 70.

Darren said: “I am very excited to join the team at Jayar. There is a huge opportunity to build on what is already a great business. My role as a consultant will involve working very closely with the team to assist their strategic growth plans within current branch operations whilst also identifying new branch opportunities.”

Marc added: “I’m excited to be joining Jayar at such a pivotal time for the business. I’ve seen firsthand how quickly the market is evolving and how important it is to balance strong relationships with the ability to adapt. What attracted me to Jayar is its unique position as a growing, family-run business with a clear ambition to expand while maintaining its core values.”

VALEO SERVICE UK

Valeo Service UK has recruited Bastian Mertens as director of marketing aftermarket Northern Europe, signalling the “next stage” of the supplier’s development across the region.

Having joined Valeo Service in November, Bastian has now set out a 2026 roadmap, aimed at strengthening Valeo’s position as a full-service partner to both distributors and workshops.

Bastian said: “Joining Valeo at this pivotal moment for the automotive aftermarket is incredibly exciting. It’s clear that simply being a component manufacturer is no longer enough. My priority is to deliver Valeo’s ‘augmented service’ vision, bringing together our OEquality parts with the data, tools and training our partners need to succeed.”

With more than 15 years’ experience in the distribution sector, including senior roles at LKQ Europe, Valeo says Bastian’s strategy focuses on combining the company’s technical nous, digital tools and training support to help the trade respond to both an ageing vehicle parc and the increasing complexity of modern vehicle technologies.

FORMULA ONE AUTOCENTRES

Jon Butcher (right) will retire from Formula One Autocentres in July after helping to build the company’s portfolio to more than 170 sites.

The former tyre fitter joined the business in 1987 and worked his way up to manager, area manager and then sales director before becoming managing director six years ago.

He will be succeeded by current Finance Director, Simon Hughes, who led the recent acquisition of 35 sites from ATS.

Automotive industry charity, Ben, has published its yearly support figures, highlighting the growing demand for health, well-being and financial support between April 2025 and March 2026. Following the update, PMF put some questions to Julie Hayes, Ben’s specialist services lead.

BEN: SUPPORT NUMBERS HIGHLIGHTS

IMPACT BUT WORK TO BE DONE

Ben responded to 14,377 enquiries and directly supported 3,421 individuals with tailored services to address physical and mental health challenges, including stress, bereavement, financial hardship, and work-life balance.

Ben says while these figures demonstrate the organisation’s impact, they also highlight the substantial unmet need. Ben aims to treble its charitable reach by 2030 to ensure more automotive people access health and well-being support.

During the year, Ben supported 3,421 individuals with 7,048 direct support interventions, including:

l 1,632 individuals received general information, advice, and guidance

l 1,605 individuals received benefits advice and financial guidance

l 573 financial grants were awarded

l 468 individuals received Ben Therapy

l 263 individuals received Life Coaching

l 528 activations of SilverCloud, Ben’s digital mental health support platform

Ben consistently maintained a high satisfaction rate (95 per cent) across all services.

ONLINE AND DIGITAL SUPPORT DEMAND REMAINED HIGH

There were over 52,000 website visitors

What were the main reasons for individuals requesting Ben’s support?

During April 2025 to March 2026, the primary reason people reached out was for support with their mental health (60 per cent), followed by finances (32), physical health (4), and social health – including relationships/loneliness (4).

Mental health is the biggest reason people have been contacting Ben, which includes stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout. Financial pressures are also a significant issue, particularly with the rising cost of living, and money worries can often have a direct impact on someone’s mental well-being. Relationship difficulties, bereavement, and workplace pressures are also common issues, and many people are facing multiple challenges at the same time. We’re seeing a mixture of challenges which are often connected and more complex cases than ever before.

Is Ben able to shed light on the split between age ranges and give examples of what those specific categories were enquiring to Ben for?

and 77,000 support page views. Over 1,000 individuals subscribed to health and wellbeing tips, advice, and tools via email –an 8 per cent increase – bringing the total subscribers to 15,500.

The most visited online support content addressed current automotive challenges, including mental health, SilverCloud digital mental health support, interview skills guidance, redundancy rights, and financial advice.

Ben also supported automotive employers through training, health checks, and urgent response services. In the year, 445 individuals completed training courses, 76 had health checks, and 59 received support after traumatic incidents.

For many people, it’s taking that first step to seeking support that’s the hardest. Some people feel their A Q A Q A Q A Q

We support people of all ages across the automotive industry, and the reasons for reaching out can vary

depending on life stage and circumstances. That said, the trend we’re seeing is that younger people are the ones needing support with their mental health the most, and financial worries are growing as people get older.

At Ben, we tailor our support to each individual and their unique situation.

From a motor factor perspective, are you able to share examples of what challenges they are facing?

Motor factors can face a range of pressures, including stress from demanding workloads, long hours, staffing shortages, and physical issues from the nature of their roles. Handling tight margins, customer expectations, and targets can also be stressful.

For some, financial concerns and trying to maintain a worklife balance can add to the stress. Stress can build over time and affect a person’s mental and physical health and well-being.

In Ben’s view, what are the biggest barriers preventing automotive workers from asking for help?

problems aren’t serious enough, or that there are others who are more deserving of support. Others find it difficult to admit they’re struggling, particularly in a male-dominated industry where they are used to getting on with things and not wanting to seem vulnerable.

For some people, pride can play a role, and there can still be stigma around opening up about mental health issues or other more personal challenges. We want people to know they don’t have to reach a crisis point before asking for help. We are here for them, and we want to hear from them.

Q

What outcomes do you measure after someone receives support?

We measure outcomes in several ways to understand the impact of the support we provide. For our wider support services, we use the Wellbeing Outcomes Star to track the ‘distance travelled’ by everyone. This helps us measure positive change across different areas of need over time. A baseline score is recorded at the start of support and reviewed again at case closure to assess progress.

For more clinical services, including counselling, Spectrum and SilverCloud, we use recognised clinical outcome measures, such as CORE-10, PHQ-9 and GAD-7. These help us assess changes in areas, such as mood, stress, depression and anxiety levels throughout the course of support.

and anxiety, increased financial stability and greater confidence in managing personal challenges. We also gather feedback directly from the people we support to better understand how our services have helped them move forward. Ultimately, our focus is on helping people feel more in control of their lives, better equipped to manage current challenges and more resilient for the future.

A Q

Do you think the industry has improved in its approach to well-being over recent years?

Yes, we’ve seen some positive progress across the automotive industry in recent years. There is greater awareness and more open conversation, especially around mental health, than there was years ago.

More employers are recognising the importance of supporting their people and creating healthier workplace cultures; however, there is still more work to do, particularly around reducing stigma and ensuring people feel comfortable asking for help early when they are starting to struggle and not waiting to reach crisis point. We are also going to be heavily focused on raising awareness about Ben and our services in the years ahead, which will be very important so we can help more people. A

More broadly, we look at outcomes including improvements in mental health and well-being, reduced stress

IGNITION POINT

CUSTOMER EXPECTATIONS SHIFTING?

CLARKE LEISUREWAYS OF ROTHERHAM

From shifting buying habits to growing expectations around speed and convenience, motor factors are being forced to adapt faster than ever before.

Since COVID, where customers were forced to pivot and shop online more, there has been a drift towards price above quality with a number of customers. Availability and quality were always top of the list, but now price is one of the deciding factors.

While value has always mattered, the cost pressures facing workshops and motorists alike have changed purchasing priorities. Customers are increasingly shopping around, comparing prices online and splitting purchases between multiple suppliers in search of the best deal.

Whilst customer loyalty remains prominent, it has inevitably been impacted by the shift. There is an increasing number of customers that only want the cheapest products and, therefore, buy from a lot of different suppliers.

At the same time, expectations around service levels have continued to rise. Fast delivery and instant availability are now considered standard offerings. This is understandable, as we live in a much faster-paced world than it was five years ago.

Digital ordering has also become a much more significant part of the modern motor factor operation, particularly among younger customers who expect convenience and round-the-clock access.

To meet these, at Leisureways, we are investing in technology and customer-facing systems. Our online ordering information and cataloguing make the job easier for all our customers and continually keep them up-to-date.

Despite online platforms and price-driven purchasing, traditional local motor factors still have a place. Many customers prefer them for good service and quick, efficient issue resolution.

Those customer expectations are influencing supplier relationships and stock management strategies. Where factors may once have relied on a single supplier for each product category, today’s market requires flexibility.

We once had a single supplier for each product group, but now we need two or three, as few suppliers can offer price, availability, and quality.

To keep pace with the demands of a rapidly evolving aftermarket, we have strengthened every area of the business. We have invested heavily in additional staff, stock, and delivery vans, while continually looking at the management systems within the business and where they can be improved to offer an even better service to our customers.

Igrew up around family business values, with two sayings that have stayed with me throughout my career: “Make do and mend” and “It’ll do, will not do here. Only properly will ever do here.”

I’ve spent the last decade learning how to grow our family business – and one of the biggest changes I’ve seen is the shift in customer expectations. Drivers are not simply looking for someone to repair their vehicle; they want visibility, reassurance, convenience, and communication throughout the entire process. That’s understandable. The challenge for garages is that diagnostics are rarely straightforward because faults often involve multiple systems interacting with one another, intermittent issues, and expensive components. Customers understandably want immediate answers.

With AI now providing instant answers to almost everything, it is easy to see why customers might think fixing a car should be straightforward and instant too; however, diagnosis itself is a skilled and time-consuming part of the repair journey. We’ve had to evolve, not just technically, but operationally too.

For us, a strong garage management system has been central to everything. Detailed notes, vehicle history, checklists, and photographs all help create transparency and professionalism throughout the customer journey. Importantly, they provide evidence and accountability if misunderstandings arise later.

We’ve developed our diagnostic process, with questionnaires, assessments, and clear terms and conditions to help customers understand what’s being tested, what limitations may exist, and why further investigation may be required before an answer can be given.

Another important lesson for us has been the importance of addressing red flags early. If a customer raises a concern, communication begins to break down, or something doesn’t feel right, it is better to address it immediately rather than allowing frustration or misunderstanding to build. Difficult conversations rarely become easier when left unresolved.

I recently visited the Motor Ombudsman head office in Westminster. One of the biggest takeaways for me was that many complaints do not necessarily stem from poor workmanship or poor intent, but from communication gaps, assumptions, or unclear expectations. Customers increasingly expect online booking, digital updates, rapid responses, and a seamless experience, yet garages are balancing those expectations against technician shortages, rising costs, and complex vehicle technology.

In many ways, customer expectations may have changed, but the core principles haven’t. Customers still want honesty, professionalism, and confidence that the job is being done properly. They simply expect to see the evidence behind it too.

VLS VOWS TO UPHOLD STANDARDS AND PROTECT END-USERS FOLLOWING MARKETING CLAIMS GUIDANCE UPDATE

The Verification of Lubricant Specifications (VLS) has introduced what it calls “more stringent guidance” on the use of marketing claims on lubricant packaging to ensure end-users are protected. The organisation says the move comes in response to several recent cases, many of which have involved lubricant products making “misleading or incorrect claims”.

VLS was formed in 2013, and since then, its Technical Review Panel (TRP) has investigated 146 complaints. Cases have related to passenger and CV oils, automotive gear oils, transmission, brake, and hydraulic fluids, as well as metalworking fluids. VLS says most complaints received have related to

marketing claims, including noncompliance with ACEA specifications and other industry standards, and conflicting or unevidenced OEM approvals.

In 2015, VLS introduced a set of guidelines for lubricant marketing claims. It acknowledges marketing claims in the industry at the time were complex, and

there was “little consistency” in their use. The guidance was designed to bring clarity to the use of marketing claims and promote consistency in their use, thereby helping the end-user better understand these terms and what they mean.

This guidance was updated again in 2019 to require manufacturers or marketers

that make ACEA claims to have reviewed and made available the Candidate Data Package (CDP) to demonstrate the performance of the formulation being used. VLS claims this document was considered the “best way” to assess the product’s performance against the ACEA sequences and is in line with ATIEL Code of Practice.

WHAT DO THE LATEST GUIDELINES SAY?

In response to findings from various recent cases, VLS has now updated the guidance to “sharpen” the definition of application recommendations. It says recommendations should be accurate and able to be substantiated for all the applications detailed. Broad statements such as ‘suitable for all models of an OEM’s equipment range’ or ‘suitable for several OEMs’, where it is generally known that multiple specifications exist for individual OEMs’ ranges of models, should be avoided, VLS says, as these are “seldom supported” and, consequently, could be misleading to end-users.

The updated guidance also reinforces the need to register with SAIL if claiming ACEA sequences. SAIL operates the registration system of the signatories of the Letter of Conformance on behalf of ATIEL, the Technical Association of the European Lubricants Industry. Lubricant marketers must be a signatory to the Lubricant Marketers’ Letter of Conformance, as

required by participation in the European Engine Lubricant Quality Management System, which applies to all automotive engine lubricants. The list of registrants is publicly available so that organisations can validate suppliers: www.rdr.link/FBC008

SUFFICIENT, ROBUST AND RELEVANT TEST DATA

If a product is using the claims ‘Recommended for use’, ‘Suitable for use’ or ‘Meets the requirements of’, amongst other terms, the lubricant marketer or technology provider must have “sufficient, robust and relevant” supporting performance test data to demonstrate using qualifying protocols for the recommended application. VLS says this should be based on test data against the requirements of the OEM specifications and/or data from substantial field trials where appropriate.

VLS Chairman, Darren Frogson (left), said: “At VLS, our mission is to protect and educate end-users and to support fair and open competition in the lubricants market. As space in motor factors and workshops remains under pressure, there is a temptation for lubricants marketers to

make multiple claims on individual lubricant products. But today’s sophisticated engines require a very specific balance of chemistry. Workshops and mechanics must be able to rely on Technical Data Sheets to confirm that a product has been fully tested and can deliver what it claims.

“Using the wrong oil can cause accelerated wear in gears and bearings, leading to increased maintenance costs and, if left unchecked, eventual engine failure. Technicians must be confident in their understanding of marketing claims and in selecting the correct product for each vehicle. VLS recommends that if mechanics are ever in doubt about which oil to use, they should always refer to the vehicle handbook or contact the OEM for the right oil recommendation.”

NEW GUIDELINES SUPPORTED

TotalEnergies is backing VLS’ latest lubricant guidelines. In a statement provided to PMF by David Valentyne, aftermarket sales manager, and Tom Hyde, technical support manager, they say VLS’ update makes it abundantly clear that ambiguity is “not acceptable”:

Central to the update is a warning against broad, sweeping statements that suggest suitability across an OEM’s full vehicle range.

Lubricant buyers are purchasing an essential vehicle maintenance product; compatibility claims should, therefore, be justified and substantiated so end-users can make more informed decisions about the products they choose for their vehicles and workshops.

Under VLS guidance, any reference to OEM compatibility must be accurate and supported by robust evidence – and, as the new guidance highlights, this is required for every application cited.

VLS guidelines continue to reinforce the important distinction between different types of claims in the market, notably “approved” vs “recommended for”.

“Approved” products – those that have undergone formal OEM testing, validation, and sign-off – are to be clearly distinguished from products described as “recommended for”, “suitable for use,” or “meets the requirements of”.

For the avoidance of doubt and to ensure optimum compatibility, lubricant end-users should look for OEM-approved products as confirmation that the lubricant has completed the manufacturer’s approval process.

WHY HAS THE VLS INTRODUCED TOUGHER GUIDANCE?

The motivation behind the updated guidelines is rooted in improving clarity, trust, and decision-making across the supply chain.

Lubricants play a critical role in vehicle performance, durability, and safety, and inaccurate or overstated compatibility claims may lead to inappropriate product selection.

As engine technology becomes more advanced, more compact, turbocharged, and with evolving emissions standards, the demand for high-quality lubricants has never been greater. Using a lubricant that is not correctly specified may lead to reduced efficiency and increased wear, increased total cost of ownership, and higher environmental impact.

In some applications, use of a lubricant that does not meet the VM’s specified requirements may affect performance, emissionssystem operation, warranty eligibility, or component durability.

WHAT OEM APPROVALS ACTUALLY MEAN IN PRACTICE

OEM approvals are the result of extensive validation processes that go well beyond baseline industry testing, such as ACEA or API sequences. OEM-approved lubricant is one which has been formally submitted to the vehicle maker, passed a full slate of proprietary engine and laboratory tests, and been issued an approval code that is traceable back to that specific formulation and production plant.

Achieving such approval requires lubricants to undergo thorough engine testing to ensure consistent performance. The OEM process typically demands more rigorous deposit, wear, oxidation, and after-treatment compatibility tests than the baseline ACEA/API sequences, and the lubricant manufacturer’s blending facility is subject to periodic audits. These approvals, therefore, act as a clear indicator that a lubricant has been properly developed for a specific application.

For example, with more than 160 OEM approvals, we are confident our Quartz range leads as one of the most comprehensively tested and approved lubricant portfolios on the market, covering one-third of the UK car parc. Taken together with “recommended” and “suitable for use” OEM compatibility, Quartz provides coverage across 99% of vehicles currently on the road in the UK.

At TotalEnergies, we have invested more than 70 years of research and development in our lubricant ranges, working as a trusted technical partner to manufacturers –co-engineering lubricants alongside engine design, meaning Quartz formulations have been developed to meet specific, realworld operating demands.

In the context of the latest VLS guidance, OEM approvals provide a clear and verifiable reference point for product compatibility claims. A portfolio supported by documented approvals and transparent technical information can help workshops, factors, and vehicle owners make informed lubricant selection decisions.

MAKING THE RIGHT CALL

The distinction between formally approved products and those carrying “recommended” or “suitable for use” is essential. While both may have a place in a range, they are not interchangeable. Approved products offer a higher level of assurance, reducing the risk of misapplication and providing greater confidence for workshops servicing modern vehicles.

Portfolio decisions should be informed not only by product approvals and market coverage, but also by the quality and depth of the supporting technical information. Offering OEM-approved products can help simplify product selection, support confidence in recommendations, and promote consistency across applications.

Where products are marketed for use in applications beyond those covered by formal approvals, it is important that supporting technical information is clear, accurate, and communicated transparently. Industry guidance, including the VLS guidelines, highlights the importance of providing reliable information throughout the supply chain to support informed decision-making. Ultimately, a well-structured, approval-led lubricant portfolio supports better outcomes for workshops and end-users alike.

NITERRA HIGHLIGHTS GROWING DEMAND FOR ENGINE MANAGEMENT COMPONENTS

Every combustion in today’s engines requires a constant stream of data flowing to the engine control unit (ECU), often measured and corrected in milliseconds. Niterra UK believes this “increasing complexity” highlights the importance of stocking the right components to support workshops with accurate diagnosis and efficient repair.

According to Niterra, the heart of modern engine management comprises four critical aspects of performance: pressure, position, emissions and temperature. When one falls, the impact is immediate – hurting drivability, emissions and overall vehicle performance.

Niterra UK reports its NTK Vehicle Electronics brand offers a portfolio of sensors and valves engineered to deliver OE-quality accuracy and fast response across all four – in-demand parts that help workshops fix vehicles first time.

PRESSURE AND POSITION: THE FOUNDATION OF CONTROL

The pressure sensors, including manifold absolute pressure (MAP) and exhaust pressure sensors, provide the ECU with essential data on airflow and exhaust system performance. This information is critical for calculating fuelling and boost control.

When pressure signals are incorrect, symptoms such as hesitation, flat spots and increased emissions quickly follow, making these components a frequent replacement opportunity.

Alongside this, the ECU must monitor the positions of key engine components. Solutions – available from NTK – include

throttle bodies, which deliver accurate open and closed position data, and engine speed and position sensors (cam and crank), which ensure precise engine timing.

These signals must work together. Without accurate cam and crank data, the ECU cannot correctly interpret load signals, regardless of how accurate the pressure readings appear.

Niterra is confident that stocking both pressure and position components will help workshops complete efficient repairs and avoid delays.

TEMPERATURE AND EMISSIONS: FINE-TUNING COMBUSTION

Temperature sensors play an important role in protecting engine components and supporting emissions control. By monitoring combustion heat, they allow the ECU to adjust fuelling strategies under load. If temperature readings are inaccurate, the ECU may reduce power unnecessarily or fail to manage emissions effectively.

Emission control components, including EGR valves and oxygen sensors, complete the feedback loop. Oxygen sensors measure exhaust oxygen levels to fine-tune fuelling in real time, while EGR valves help reduce

nitrogen oxide emissions by recirculating exhaust gases through the engine.

With emissions systems becoming increasingly complex, Niterra believes these components represent a growing area of demand.

FOUR PILLARS, ONE OPPORTUNITY

The ECU does not treat sensor data in isolation. Each input is analysed alongside the others, meaning a delay or inaccuracy in one signal can affect overall engine performance.

A drifting temperature reading, delayed pressure signal or incorrect timing input can all lead to warning lights, poor drivability and repeat workshop visits.

Niterra believes this presents a “clear opportunity” to support customers with a complete, OE-quality range that enables accurate diagnosis and long-lasting repairs. By supplying a coordinated range across all four pillars, workshops can be supported in a bid to improve first-time fix rates, reduce comebacks and build long-term customer confidence.

VELORIS: LEISURE BATTERIES DRIVE NEW AFTERMARKET GROWTH

Although the end of spring and the start of the summer season might see a decline in traditional battery sales, with the improving weather and longer days comes an upturn in leisure activities. These bring fresh opportunities, according to Veloris.

By diversifying stock profiles, the needs of leisure enthusiasts can be met – whether they meander along the river, seek pastures new in a motorhome, caravan, or on two wheels.

Veloris says it provides access to the products needed to tap into this profitable market, sales for which are notably driven by a desire for lifestyle improvement, rather than because of a forced distress purchase.

NOT JUST BATTERIES…

Alongside batteries, Veloris supplies a range of chargers, solar panels, and

NCC VERIFICATION

inverters, as well as ancillary products, such as battery boxes and, for caravan enthusiasts, motor movers to allow them to manoeuvre their unit.

Motor movers, however, require a reliable power source, and with a lithium mover battery, they have the power they need. The MVP27 from ACES Energy, for example, has a built-in intelligent charger and includes a terminal set and mounting plate for quick and secure installation. It can also be continuously connected without overcharging, so the mover is ready to go whenever it’s needed.

To help users identify the batteries that will best suit their needs, the National Caravan Council (NCC), which represents the UK caravan industry, has introduced its Verified Leisure Battery Scheme. So, to cater for the growing consumer demand for NCCverified batteries, Veloris, an NCC member since 2016, has options to choose from. NCC-verified leisure batteries are tested by the battery manufacturer and then verified by the NCC, considering their minimum capacity and the minimum number of life cycles at 50 per cent depth of discharge. They are then allocated into one of three classes:

g Class C is for situations where the power consumption is low and used with an electrical hook-up – 70 marks the threshold for the minimum number of cycles.

Alongside the Numax brand, owned by Veloris, as well as Exide and VARTA, there is the Rolls Battery offering. With a range of lithium batteries that provide thousands of charge/discharge/charge cycles, the Rolls Battery VB series presents an option that is available in multiple case sizes and at a “highly competitive” price point.

All models feature built-in Bluetooth monitoring, an automatic self-heating system for reliable cold weather performance, and a broad range of Ah capacities.

Veloris claims the batteries’ cyclic life is “exceptional,” and they have a wide range

g Class B for higher consumption conditions, where a motor mover is used, for example, but still generally used with an electrical hook-up and a minimum of 200 cycles.

g Class A is for applications frequently used without an electrical hook-up and delivers a minimum of 350 cycles.

Veloris says the scheme ensures it is easy to identify which batteries on the market are quoting accurate, verified specifications, which gives consumers confidence that the battery they are considering is fit for purpose and will perform as advertised – the company says it has more than 50 NCC-verified batteries from manufacturers, including Exide, VARTA, Lucas, Numax, Odyssey, and now Rolls.

of applications. The integrated smart technology optimises charge acceptance, regardless of whether the battery is connected to a mains power source, a generator, or a solar panel.

ON YOUR BIKE!

Spring and early summer are also the times when riders dust off their machines, only to find the battery has discharged over the winter. Veloris says this presents a “great opportunity” to supply them with a quality replacement; however, to prevent the same issue from recurring the following season, the battery should be supplemented with the addition of an intelligent charger to sit alongside it, to ensure that the battery is always in peak condition.

Veloris, a distribution partner for the CTEK charger brand, offers a range of options; for instance, the XS 0.8, CTEK’s smallest 12V charger, is suitable for charging smaller batteries and performing maintenance charging on normal-sized car batteries.

The XS 0.8 is a compact, fully automatic, six-step charger that delivers 0.8A and charges 12V batteries from 1.2 to 32Ah and delivers maintenance charging up to 100Ah.

Its other features include a ‘connect and forget’ function, which means it can be connected almost indefinitely, as it provides a maintenance charge for long-term use, as well as safety qualities such as spark-free operation, reverse polarity protection, and short circuit immunity. All this also comes with a five-year warranty.

The Veloris motorcycle battery offering includes Lucas and Numax, both the company’s own brands, as well as OE options from VARTA and Exide.

SOLAR OPTIONS

For those who enjoy the outdoors and like to experience life off-grid or take their holidays far away from a mains power source, solar panel solutions are an option; that said, Veloris says they must be used in conjunction with a suitable controller to manage and regulate the charging process.

The company claims panel kits can be an excellent solution to offer alongside any leisure battery sales as they contain the panels, controller, cabling, and mounting system – in one package. Single and twin panel kits range from 60 to 175W.

IN CONCLUSION

As identified by Veloris, the leisure battery sector could represent an opportunity that extends well beyond traditional seasonal replacement sales. From caravans and motorhomes to motorcycles and off-grid applications, leisure activities and independent travel are helping to drive demand for higher performance energy solutions and supporting products.

According to Veloris, by stocking a broader range of leisure batteries, chargers, solar solutions, and related accessories, changing customer demands can be met, and average transaction values can be increased.

As the warmer months encourage motorists to spend more time on the road, the company believes the aftermarket is well placed to benefit from a category increasingly driven by lifestyle, convenience, and reliability rather than emergency replacement alone.

POWER MAXED

‘SUPPORTING

MODERN MOTORING’ AS CUSTOMER EXPECTATIONS CHANGE

Within this evolving landscape, Power Maxed, Steel Seal and Power Maxed Racing bring performance heritage and everyday usability, bridging the gap between motorsport engineering and the retail shelf.

The foundation of the brand group is its “track to trade” philosophy – taking lessons learnt from the British Touring Car Championship and applying them to retail and trade products. The company says it’s a concept rooted in performance but designed for everyday drivers.

A company spokesperson said: “This connection to racing isn’t just branding. It represents a development culture built around extreme conditions, fast turnaround and constant pressure to perform. That same mindset is applied to the products that sit in motor factor retail displays.”

Even following a fire in August 2025, which destroyed the company’s entire infrastructure, the team returned to the BTCC grid within days and resumed supply to the trade shortly after. That resilience has become part of the brand identity – reliability proven under realworld pressure.

STEEL SEAL: CONFIDENCE FOR COST-CONSCIOUS REPAIRS

In the retail environment, Steel Seal can occupy a specific space: a practical, problem-solving solution that customers often don’t expect but are relieved to find.

For drivers facing major engine issues, particularly head gasket failure, the choice is rarely straightforward, nor cheap. Older vehicles, changing repair economics and rising labour costs mean a full mechanical rebuild is not always the most viable option, according to the company.

The spokesperson continued: “Steel Seal provides an alternative conversation point at the counter – one focused on cost control, convenience and getting a vehicle back on the road without unnecessary complexity.

“For motor factors, it represents a strong retail proposition: easy to explain, high perceived value, and relevant to real customer pain points.”

POWER MAXED ADDITIVES: EVERYDAY PROTECTION

Power Maxed believes modern drivers need to be aware of preventative maintenance.

Power Maxed believes there is an evolving expectation within a motor factor, one that is no longer just about supplying parts to workshops – more about offering products that make sense to the end customer as much as the technician. Whether it’s a driver maintaining a family car, a commuter trying to avoid unexpected costs, or an enthusiast who wants their vehicle running at its best, the motor factor has become a “key part of the wider motoring experience”.

With vehicles becoming more complex and emissions systems more sensitive, the cost of neglect is increasingly visible.

Its additive range fits naturally into a retail environment, with products like DPF cleaners, injector treatments and catalytic system cleaners positioned – not as specialist workshop chemicals – but as simple, preventative solutions for everyday motorists.

They offer a clear message at point of sale:

l Improve efficiency

l Maintain performance

l Help avoid expensive repairs

The spokesperson said: “For motor factors, this creates consistent upsell opportunities and repeat purchase behaviour, particularly as customers look for ways to extend vehicle life between services.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE INSTORE EXPERIENCE

In a busy motor factor, customer service matters just as much as the product itself. Customers are often making quick decisions, which makes clarity essential. It builds trust. From aerosols to additives, the

Power Maxed range is designed to be immediately usable and visually clear.

It’s not just about whether a product works; it’s about whether it feels reliable at the point of purchase.

Availability is another part of that customer experience; a missed shelf item doesn’t just delay a sale, it can send a customer elsewhere.

Following its recovery from the fire, the business rebuilt its logistics operation from the ground up, culminating in a new headquarters in Studley. The result is a “faster, more efficient” supply chain, designed to support consistent availability. In practical terms, it means fewer gaps on the shelf and more confidence at the counter.

SUPPORT BEYOND THE SHELF

Technical reassurance plays an important role – offering a bridge between consumer uncertainty and workshop expertise.

To support this, the brand maintains a dedicated technical team available to assist with product questions, applications and compatibility guidance. It ensures that both counter staff and end-users have access to clear, confident advice when they need it.

LOOKING AHEAD

As the motor factor space continues to evolve, Power Maxed is confident success will increasingly depend on products that combine credibility, simplicity and value. Its mission remains consistent: to support modern motoring with solutions

that are easy to understand, easy to sell and proven in the most demanding environments – from the racetrack to the everyday commute.

With attractive merchandising and proven sell-through, the range is delivering exceptional growth for stockists across the UK.”

LEISUREWAYS: RE TAIL PL AYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE FOR A MODERN FACTOR

The role of a modern motor factor has evolved significantly over the past decade, according to Leisureways Branch Manager, Tom Clarke. While availability, delivery and technical expertise remain central to the trade, Tom believes many factors are recognising the value of retail-focused product categories.

At Leisureways, leisure and retail products play an important role in boosting sales and improving customer engagement both in-branch and online. As margins continue to tighten across many traditional service parts categories, additional product lines are becoming key to helping factors generate additional revenue opportunities and maximise branch spend. The strongest performing retail categories are often linked to convenience, seasonal maintenance, and vehicle appearance.

WHAT’S POPULAR?

Car care products, additives, bulbs, wiper blades, and accessories gain the most traction in-store. These products often appeal to both workshops and motorists alike, especially when linked naturally to routine servicing or seasonal vehicle maintenance. Smaller convenience-led items can also encourage impulse purchases, helping increase customer basket spends.

BRANCH LAYOUT

Visibility and placement play a significant role in driving additional purchases, particularly within busy branch environments where customers are often collecting parts quickly and looking to minimise downtime. At Leisureways, high-demand consumables and convenience-led items are positioned in visible areas around the branch to encourage additional purchases and improve customer awareness. Seasonal promotions and supplier-led offers also play

a key role in increasing purchases, particularly during peak servicing periods and holiday travel seasons.

BUYING HABITS HAVE CHANGED

Workshops collecting parts will often purchase additional maintenance items at the same time, especially when products are clearly displayed and relevant to the repair being carried out. At the same time, motorists expect quick, practical solutions and competitive pricing, influenced by online retail and next-day delivery expectations.

Retail categories can often be influenced by changing vehicle technology and customer lifestyles. There has been a growing interest in products connected to mobile technology, convenience, and EV ownership; however, while EV-related products continue to attract attention across the industry, demand within many branches remains relatively gradual compared to traditional maintenance and consumable lines, which still dominate the majority of sales. For motor factors, balancing these

categories with traditional retail staples will become significant moving forward.

CONCLUSION

The modern motor factor is no longer a collection point for parts. With the access of many online retailers, technicians and motorists look to motor factors for expert advice, product guidance, and after-sales support. Although we have introduced an online order portal, staff knowledge and customer support will remain essential to supporting workshops and maximising retail and leisure categories.

As customer expectations continue to evolve, leisure and retail categories are likely to remain a valuable part of modern motor factor offerings. While core service parts will always remain the foundation of our industry, products that improve convenience and encourage impulse purchasing offer opportunities for businesses looking to increase sales and support long-term business performance.

WHY CABIN AIR FILTERS MATTER MORE DURING ALLERGY SEASON

Spring and early summer, with their longer days and warmer temperatures, bring an increase in airborne particles from trees, shrubs, and plants. This can cause discomfort for motorists with allergies, as pollen and other plant-based contaminants in the atmosphere reduce the effectiveness of cabin air filters that are often heavily saturated with dust, fine particles, bacteria, and allergens after months of winter driving – DENSO has responded.

Allergies can pose significant challenges while driving; for instance, hay fever can compromise driving safety. Sudden sneezing, watery eyes, and drowsiness can impair reaction times and vision. Effective cabin filtration, in light of longer pollen seasons according to DENSO, is critical.

In response, DENSO, an OE cabin air filter supplier to many VMs, says now is the ideal time to replace these components, a message that should be conveyed to workshop customers whenever a request is received for general service items. As a rule, whenever the oil and air filters are replaced as part

of a scheduled service, so should be the cabin air filter, or at the very least, annually.

DUAL OPPORTUNITIES

DENSO believes cabin air filters provide a couple of opportunities: first, they provide additional revenue, which helps cash flow,

and second, they deliver genuine health benefits to drivers and their passengers.

The OEM emphasises that all cabin air filters are suitable for both occupants and the vehicle itself. These filters enhance the quality of cabin air and safeguard the internal components of the AC system, similar to many other products. Consequently, replacements are available in various types and qualities, offering different levels of filter efficiency and, consequently, varying degrees of personal and mechanical protection.

According to DENSO, a good-quality cabin air filter should provide a high level of protection from dust, soot, pollen, and particulates – likely to feature a multi-layer fleece material to capture dust and solid matter. The company claims this kind of filter is ideal for drivers who:

l Need a reliable and cost-effective OEquality replacement

l Don’t usually drive in a high-traffic or pollution-heavy environment

l Want solid protection against everyday dust and pollen

RAISING THE BAR

That said, DENSO believes its ClearAir+ stands out, designed to “raise the bar” when it comes to both filter efficiency

“Allergies can pose significant challenges while driving; for instance, hay fever can compromise driving safety. Sudden sneezing, watery eyes, and drowsiness can impair reaction times and vision. Effective cabin filtration, in light of longer pollen seasons according to DENSO, is critical.”

and its environmental credentials. It delivers OE-grade quality for performance and reliability, trusted by many European car makers.

It features a unique five-layer filtration system that is engineered to not only block dust and gases but also odours, viruses, bacteria, and allergens. With the reassurance of ISO-certification and testing (ISO 20743, ISO 18184), DENSO claims ClearAir+ effectively captures 99 per cent of bacterial and viral organisms and 96 per cent of particles measuring 2.5 microns, as well as 80 per cent of nitrogen oxide.

As a result, DENSO believes ClearAir+ is designed for drivers who:

l Frequently drive in urban or highpollution environments

l Carry young children, elderly passengers, or people with allergies

l Want exceptional protection from odours, gases, and microscopic pollutants

l Want the highest possible standard of cabin air quality

ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY MATERIALS AND PROCESSES

With the protection of the environment a key DENSO principle, its ClearAir+ range is designed to use environmentally friendly materials and production processes. This means that they offer reliability and sustainability alongside the efficient and effective removal of viruses and bacteria, airborne pollutants, and gases.

While cabin air filters generally consist of a first filter medium that keeps out coarse particles, supported by a filter fleece that increases its dust retention capacity, DENSO’s ClearAir+ filters use five active layers, including two of carbon. Then, by incorporating the latest developments in filtration technology, they are able to separate out vapours, odours, harmful gases, and remove fine dust, including micro particles with diameters smaller than 2.5 microns, while the antiallergen layer is particularly beneficial during pollen season.

Finally, as well as improving air quality for those inside the vehicle, DENSO says its ClearAir+ filter will also protect the vehicle’s entire heating, ventilation and AC system. This is because the airborne particles that are naturally present in the atmosphere and drawn through the system to stick to the important elements within the unit are removed before they can do so. As a result, the system should run reliably and last longer.

HOW ‘PREMIUM’ FILTERS CAN DRIVE MARGIN, PERFORMANCE AND CUSTOMER LOYALTY

Arguably, filtration can sometimes be seen as a routine category – essential but rarely the first area discussed when looking for growth – but MANN-FILTER believes it offers far more commercial potential than many businesses realise.

As vehicle parc complexity continues to rise, workshops are under increasing pressure to fit parts that deliver reliable performance, meet exact application requirements, and reduce the risk of comebacks. According to MANNFILTER, the conversation can go beyond price and towards value, fit, performance, and service life.

A CATEGORY WITH UPSELL POTENTIAL

Filters are fitted regularly, across every vehicle segment, and often as part of planned servicing. That makes them a natural upsell category – but the opportunity is not just in selling ‘a filter’ – it is in helping customers select the right level of filtration for the vehicle, service interval, and operating environment.

MANN-FILTER claims “premium” filters can command stronger margins because they offer tangible benefits:

l Reliable fit and installation, helping reduce workshop time

l Consistent filtration performance, supporting engine protection and cabin comfort

l High-quality materials and construction, which can contribute to durability over the service interval

l Coverage for newer and more demanding applications, including modern engines and more sensitive systems

This changes the sales discussion; rather than compete on entry price, sales teams can position filtration as a performance and reliability decision. That opens the door to better margin retention and more confident upselling.

SPECIALIST FILTRATION CREATES DIFFERENTIATION

MANN-FILTER says workshops are encountering a broader mix of vehicle technologies; therefore, demand is growing for filtration products tailored to specific operating needs, including:

l High-performance air filters for demanding engine requirements.

l Advanced cabin air filters, including activated carbon or higher-efficiency variants and now anti-allergen options.

l Fuel and oil filtration for sensitive modern powertrains.

l Application-specific products where the correct specification is critical to performance and protection.

These lines can reinforce value proposition and help account managers and counter staff start constructive conversations with customers. MANNFILTER believes a workshop trusting a supplier to recommend the right specialist product is more likely to return for filters and wider service parts.

BETTER MARGINS START WITH BETTER CONVERSATIONS

MANN-Filter says margin improvement in filtration is often less about the list price and more about how the category is presented. Workshops are balancing labour efficiency, customer satisfaction, and vehicle reliability, so if a filter can be shown to support these outcomes, the conversation is likely to become less price sensitive.

P The value of fitting a premium filter on vehicles with longer service intervals.

P The benefit of enhanced cabin filtration for driver comfort and air quality.

P The reduced risk of poor fitment or premature replacement.

P The importance of trusted filtration in protecting expensive downstream systems.

This is where training and product knowledge matter. Counter teams who can quickly explain differences in filter options are in a much stronger position to convert routine demand into higher-value sales.

FILTRATION CAN IMPROVE CUSTOMER RETENTION TOO

Filters are recurring purchases, which makes them crucial for customer retention. By offering reliable availability, extensive product coverage, and confidence in product quality, workshops can build trust and rely on filters more easily.

That reliability matters. MANN-FILTER says workshops don’t just remember the invoice price; they remember whether the part fitted correctly, whether the job was completed on time, and whether the vehicle came back. Filtration products that consistently perform well can support, not only immediate sales, but repeat business and account loyalty.

Ultimately, the company says, this means filtration should be viewed as a “relationship category” as much as a transactional one. If customers know they can source the right filter, first time, for a wide range of applications, they are more likely to consolidate spend with that supplier.

UFI SEES CABIN AIR QUALITY OPPORTUNITIES

With increasing concern around allergens, fine particulate matter, and airborne contaminants, UFI is positioning its range of cabin-air filtration technologies as an aftermarket opportunity across passenger car, LCV, heavy-duty, and off-road applications.

ADVANCED FILTRATION TECHNOLOGIES

Drawing on more than 50 years of OE filtration expertise and ongoing development within its innovation centres, the company manufactures six proprietary FormulaUFI filter media technologies in-house.

Among the most prominent is ARGENTIUM, UFI’s premium antibacterial cabin filter technology. Manufactured using the company’s FormulaUFI.Stratiflex multilayer media, ARGENTIUM combines antimicrobial, adsorbent, and structural layers to deliver performance and air purification.

The filter incorporates Biomaster silver biocide technology, using silver particles to inhibit bacterial growth by up to 99%. In addition to capturing pollen, dust, brake, and tyre wear particles, ARGENTIUM is engineered to prevent the formation of

fungi and mould while filtering harmful gases including sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides.

Activated carbon within the filter structure also enables filtration efficiency exceeding 98.5 per cent for particles measuring 2.5 microns, while helping eliminate odours and airborne pollutants. UFI states the antimicrobial performance remains effective for up to 12 months.

HEPA TECHNOLOGY EXPANDS INTO THE AFTERMARKET

As electrification reshapes vehicle design, cabin filtration requirements are also evolving. UFI has responded by introducing High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters developed originally for BEVs.

Already available in the aftermarket for the Tesla Model Y, the company’s HEPA filters utilise medical-grade filtration media capable of removing 99.975 per cent of particles smaller than 0.3 microns.

This allows the filters to capture atmospheric particulates, fine dust, and a broad range of airborne bio-contaminants, including bacteria, spores, and viruses – an increasingly important selling point.

UFI is continuing its awareness campaign of in-vehicle air quality, encouraging greater emphasis on cabin air filters – a category the company believes remains underappreciated, despite its impact on passenger wellbeing.

GROWING RANGE COVERAGE

UFI has expanded its cabin filter offering, adding 36 new references during the past two years. The current range now includes:

l 161 ARGENTIUM filters

l HEPA filtration solutions for selected EV applications

l 400 anti-pollen filters

l 210 activated carbon filters

The company says its cabin-air programme will soon be supported by a dedicated catalogue featuring 772 part numbers, including:

l 637 references for cars and vans

l 80 for heavy-duty vehicles and buses

l 55 for off-road applications

Collectively, the range is said to cover around 95 per cent of the European vehicle parc.

OPPORTUNITY FOR THE AFTERMARKET

Cabin air filtration continues to represent a strong service and upselling opportunity, particularly as consumers become more aware of health, hygiene, and in-car comfort.

With technologies – such as antibacterial filtration and HEPA-level air purification – now moving into the aftermarket, there is an opportunity to differentiate an offering beyond standard replacement filters and align with growing demand for premium cabin-air solutions.

COMLINE LAUNCHES TIMING CHAIN KITS

Comline says timing chains were once considered a lifetime solution, but it claims some independent workshops report that this reputation no longer consistently holds true. It states that across a growing number of modern engines, technicians are seeing timing chain failures at lower-than-expected mileages.

These failures can result in high-value, labour-intensive repairs, often requiring engine or gearbox removal, with extended labour times and an increased risk of costly comebacks. According to Comline, on certain modern engines, timing chain work is becoming a more regular feature in the workshop.

A FAMILIAR ENCOUNTER

Modern engine designs can place increased stress on timing systems. Higher operating temperatures, extended service intervals, and compact packaging may all contribute to accelerated wear, while early warning signs can be easy to overlook.

Comline says workshops have reported:

l Cold start rattles that worsen over time

l Chain stretch, causing timing issues before fault codes appear

l Partial repairs increasing the likelihood of repeat failures

l Once a chain issue escalates, the

consequences can be significant, not just for the vehicle, but for workshop efficiency, customer confidence, and reputation.

COMLINE’S RESPONSE

These trends have driven Comline’s launch of its new timing chain kits. Developed by its engine parts team, drawing on more than 40 years of specialist experience, the kits are manufactured in OE factories and tested to meet the demands of modern engines.

Comline has revealed a new range of timing chain kits, engineered to deliver OE-matching quality, robust reliability, and backed by a fouryear/100,000km warranty. The company says the launch marks a “significant development” in its engine parts portfolio.

The range launches with over 300 SKUs, covering many commonly serviced applications, including JLR Ingenium, VAG 1.4 TSI, and BMW N47.

Workshops can choose between basic kits – containing the timing chain, guides, tensioner, and pre-lube – or full kits, supplying all components required for a complete timing system replacement.

Key features include:

l OXICOAT chain pin coating for wear resistance

l 360-degree full load chain pin staking for consistent strength and durability

l Laser-marked tensioner torque settings, helping technicians install components correctly and quickly

All Comline timing chain kits are backed by a four-year/100,000km warranty.

EFFICIENCY A PRIORITY

For workshops, timing chain repairs are among the highest risk jobs on the ramp, says Comline. The company is confident its timing chain kits help reduce that risk by supporting complete, first-time-right repairs; benefits include reducing comeback risk through full system replacement rather than partial repairs, building confidence on commonly reported problem applications, and enabling faster, more straightforward installation thanks to technician-friendly features that reduce guesswork on complex jobs.

REAL WORLD VALIDATION THROUGH THE CAR EDITION

Comline has partnered with UK-based workshop and YouTube channel sensation The Car Edition, using real repairs to demonstrate results. Instead of staged demonstrations, the collaboration documents genuine diagnosis and installation work carried out in the Cambridgeshire workshop.

SOLUTION TO HELP FUEL ECONOMY, EMISSIONS AND MOT PASSES

With fuel prices and supply pressures continuing to make an impact, Cataclean has emphasised the importance of practical, preventative maintenance solutions that help protect fuel economy, reduce emissions, and improve MOT pass rates.

Cataclean’s 8-in-1 fuel and exhaust system cleaner is designed to tackle common causes of poor fuel economy and emissions failures: carbon, resin, and gum build-up throughout the fuel and exhaust system. Over time, these deposits accumulate naturally through combustion and are often worsened by short journeys, idling, and stop-start traffic, leading to reduced MPG, poor performance, and higher emissions.

Added directly to the fuel tank, the product is carried with the fuel through the system, helping to remove deposits from fuel lines, injectors, and the combustion chamber before ignition. During combustion, Cataclean then creates an acidic vapour containing carboxylic acids, which travels through the exhaust system to help clean oxygen sensors, EGR valves, catalytic converters and DPFs. This cleaning action helps restore efficient combustion and exhaust gas flow, supporting improved fuel economy, smoother performance, and lower emissions.
