GEZE UK RIBA-approved CPD ‘Specifying, Installing and Maintaining Ironmongery for Fire Doors’ has been completely revised and includes new visuals and updates to regulations all in the company’s new branding. The CPD explains what fire doors are, identifies their various components, how they work, the standards and regulations which surround them and why smoke is so dangerous. It incorporates the latest statistics for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, including the number of people that die from smoke inhalation every year. Offering architects and specifiers invaluable advice and guidance, this updated training seminar gives a better understanding of the standards and regulations surrounding fire doors to ensure fire safety is paramount. The 40-minute seminar is included in RIBA’s core curriculum: Design, Construction and Technology and Health, Safety and Wellbeing for the General Awareness knowledge level. Residential tower emergency communication solution Following the Grenfell Tower incident resulting in the tragic loss of life in 2017, and other events in residential towers, it has become clear that a method of informing residents of a situation is urgently needed. Baldwin Boxall has addressed this problem by designing a solution that has been successfully installed in a residential tower. Fire officers, council personnel and landlords were consulted and have fully endorsed the groundbreaking pilot scheme. The specially designed, networked, enhanced public address system enables fire rescue services to broadcast speech and message announcements to single floors, multiple floors or the whole building in the event of an emergency situation. Installed as a secondary measure to the building’s fire detection and traditional sounders, the system can be used to broadcast information and reassurance to the residents — including instruction as necessary.
