Sparkle & Shine Over 250 of the UK’s top extensionists gathered at the luxurious Edwardian Hotel in Manchester recently to attend the Remi Cachet Extensionist of the Year Awards 2025/2026, hosted by Founder and Global Creative Director, Victoria Lynch, and CEO, Lisa Jackson.

As guests connected with new faces and reunited with old friends, the Remi Cachet Extensionist of the Year Awards 2025/2026 was truly a night to remember.

The glamorous crowd was immersed into a magical Winter Wonderland theme with the room dressed in glittering white, and then treated to a sumptuous meal before the awards were announced.

What made you want to enter the Pro Hair Awards 2025?

I entered because 2024–25 has been such a defining year for me. From international stage work to creating leading trends with a global colour brand and mentoring my Fellowship ClubStar Team, it felt like the right moment to put myself forward among the big names in our industry.

Josh Goldsworthy is a third-generation stylist and one of the most influential creative voices in British hairdressing today. As Creative Director of Goldsworthy’s Hairdressing, he continues to evolve the family legacy while pushing the boundaries of modern salon, session and educational hairdressing.

Renowned for his precision, originality and technical excellence, Josh’s career spans high-fashion editorial, runway and commercial work. He has collaborated with leading photographers and global brands including Mulberry, Kenzo, Balenciaga and Dior, alongside high-street names such as Topshop and Superdry. His backstage experience includes over 150 fashion shows across Europe, working closely with industry icons Anthony Turner and Gary Gill, as well as television credits including Britain’s Next Top Model and TOWIE.

How did it feel when your name was announced as the winner of Professional Hairdresser of the Year 2025?

Honestly, it didn’t feel real for a moment.

It was this mix of shock, pride and pure gratitude. To hear my name called for such a huge award… it’s something I’ll never forget.

What does winning this award mean to you?

It means everything. As a third-generation Goldsworthy, it feels like a moment that honours my family’s legacy and the journey that’s shaped me. But most of all, it’s a feeling of belonging; it validates that the risks I’ve taken, the long hours and the choices I’ve made to follow my own creative vision are seen, appreciated and respected by the industry I love.

Can you share any exciting plans you have for the coming months?

I’ve developed an amazing creative synergy with my sister, Sophie, and after such an exciting 2025, we’re pushing to expand even further in 2026. Next year also marks 65 years of our salon group in business, which we’ll be celebrating with lots of promotions, a huge team shoot, show and even a team trip to Marbella!

How has winning Professional Hairdresser of the Year impacted your business and your clients?

The response has been incredible. Clients feel proud to be part of the journey, which creates amazing loyalty and a buzz in the salon. It’s elevated the whole salon group, with new clients and an increased demand. It’s been a huge positive shift.

What was your favourite takeaway from the night?

Seeing the whole industry come together to celebrate creativity reminded me exactly why I love what we do. And, of course, holding that trophy in my hands!

Where have you put your trophy?!

It’s got pride of place in the salon!

Somewhere I see it every day as a reminder to keep pushing, keep creating and keep giving back.

Did you make any new friends or contacts on the night?

I’m normally the shy one in the corner, but I had so many great conversations with

people I’ve admired for years. Events like this always remind me how supportive and connected the hairdressing community is.

(I can’t actually remember everything… I blame the free drinks vouchers!)

Did you catch up with anyone you hadn’t seen in a long time?

Definitely. I’ve always had an amazing relationship with the Hooker & Young team, so catching up with Gary and Michael was a real highlight. Having last year’s winners – and finalists again this year – come over to congratulate me meant a lot. They’ve played a huge part in my career, and I consider them both as mentors and friends. It’s always special to feel that level of support from people you admire.

Most memorable After Party moment?

It’s all a bit hazy, but unforgettable nonetheless! The whole room finally letting go was priceless, especially seeing industry icons dancing like no one was watching. The standout moment is a tie between Rob Wood from Novo Cabelo belting out Pink Pony Club with the band or my brother-in-law, Liam, going fully topless to play the drummer’s bongos!

You really had to be there, but both moments still have me in stitches.

Who had the best moves on the dancefloor?

There were some unexpected dancefloor legends that night – an honourable mention to the Pro Hair team, all the PR ladies and the boys from Williams & Hirst, who partied right through to the 3am curfew with us. But let’s be honest, there was only one real winner… Me. I was once again forced to perform the worm and sacrificed my knees in the process, so it has to go to me!

Any other comments?

Just a huge thank you to everyone who supports me – my family, my team and the incredible community that makes our industry what it is. This win isn’t just mine; this win is ours.

Tracey Ann Smith has forged a career that stretches far beyond the salon chair. Over the years, she has worked internationally at countless Fashion Weeks, collaborating with designers like Gareth Pugh and Mulberry to create runway looks that push boundaries and set trends. She began her journey founding Angels salon in Aberdeen, and today she co-leads French & Ivi in Derbyshire, alongside her daughter, Poppy. Together, they guide an incredible team while mentoring stylists through education and seminars.

Tracey is also proud to serve as Creative Director of MOOD Hair Colour and Coloraqua, a revolutionary, water-based, professional colour system. In these roles, she leads the creative vision, product development and visual identity, ensuring the brands continue to inspire stylists and drive innovation in the industry.

What made you want to enter the Pro Hair Awards 2025?

For me, the Pro Hair Awards signify elite hairdressing. They’re an opportunity to be able to tell your clients, ‘YOU are in the hands of the best in the business!’

Honestly, I was so humbled and emotional! I love colour so much, and it’s such an honour to have the title again. I didn’t want to hand it over, hahaha!

How has winning Professional Colourist of the Year impacted your business and your clients?

My clients love seeing the trophies; it makes them feel special in the chair. The local press coverage of the win has also sparked new interest in the salon.

What does winning this award mean to you?

This award is one of the highlights of my career. I wrote my entry myself and poured my heart into it, so being recognised in this way feels incredibly special.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to enter the Pro Hair Awards this year?

Do it! The entry process is straightforward and really enjoyable. My main advice is just to be yourself and stay true to who you are.

I’ve had a truly rewarding career in hairdressing, and I still absolutely love what I do. From the moment I started, I knew this industry was where I belonged. It allows me to be creative every day, connect with people and make them feel their best.

Over the years, I’ve built up a loyal clientele and developed my skills across all aspects of hairdressing – from cutting and colouring to styling and trend work. Working for HOOKER & YOUNG and also as a Schwarzkopf UK Ambassador has given me the privilege of working with some amazing hairdressers.

Winning a Pro Hair Award has been one of the highlights of my journey so far, and it’s motivated me to keep pushing my craft, mentoring others and continuing to do what I love every single day.”

What made you want to enter the Pro Hair Awards 2025?

I have always followed the Pro Hair Awards, and I’m passionate about pushing my skills to the next level and celebrating the creativity and dedication that go into being a hairdresser. It was an opportunity to challenge myself, showcase my skills and gain recognition among some of the most talented people in the industry.

How did it feel when your name was announced as the winner of Professional Salon Stylist of the Year 2025?

To be honest, I think I was in shock! It was totally unexpected as it’s a tough category with some incredible names, but it’s such a buzz winning something like that in front of so many friends.

Definitely not me, I’m the worst!

Come and say hi at this year’s Awards on 7th September, I will definitely be there.

What does winning this award mean to you?

Winning the award was an incredible honour, it validated all the hard work, long hours and love I put into my work every day.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to enter the Pro Hair Awards this year?

I’d say just go for it – be true to yourself and what makes your work stand out.

Take your time with your entry and make sure it really represents you. It can feel a bit nerve-wracking putting yourself out there, but it’s such a great experience and you’ll learn so much from it. Whether you win or not, it’s something that will push you to grow as a stylist!

Simon Tuckwell – known online as the Heavy Metal Hairdresser – is an alternative hair artist, educator and content creator with over twenty years behind the chair. His career has taken him from the world of a traditional salon to building his own creative studio – Blank Space Creative – as well as travelling the world educating on alternative cutting techniques. He has worked with global brands, taught with some of the industry’s most iconic stylists and built a community of clients and followers who connect with his raw, honest approach to hairdressing and the world of celebrating the alternative.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the world cutting hair for some of the most iconic rock stars, and most of these incredible experiences have stemmed from me pushing myself on social media. I’ve always liked to do things a little differently, and for this to be celebrated means the world,” says Simon.

What made you want to enter the Pro Hair Awards 2025?

I wanted to enter because this year felt like a turning point for me. After rebuilding, rebranding and refinding my voice, I finally felt ready to step forward and show the industry what alternative hairdressing can truly represent. The Pro Hair Awards celebrate creativity, authenticity and influence, which is everything I stand for, so it felt like the right time to throw my name in!

How did it feel when your name was announced as Professional Hair Influencer of the Year 2025?

Honestly? Surreal! It was one of those moments where the room goes quiet for a split second and you think, did they really just say my name? It felt like every late night, every post, every haircut, every setback and every rebuild suddenly made sense. I was genuinely overwhelmed.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to enter the Pro Hair Awards this year?

Enter with honesty. Don’t try to be what you think the judges want – just show who you really are, what you stand for and the impact you’re genuinely making.

And don’t underestimate your own story; that’s often the most powerful part.

Where have you put your trophy?!

Pride of place at Blank Space Creative – right where my clients can see it the second they walk in!

Every single client mentions it, and being able to share how important it is to me always creates a great conversation.

How has winning Professional Influencer of the Year impacted your business and clients?

It’s brought a wave of new clients who finally feel seen. Engagement has skyrocketed, doors have opened for collaborations and my existing clients feel part of something bigger – I wanted them to feel like the win belonged to them too!

Can you share any exciting plans for the coming months?

I’ve got new education dates launching, more festival collaborations and we’re expanding content for my ‘Hair to the Throne’ channel! I’m heading to look after some pretty incredible people for the Grammys and Coachella, so this year is looking pretty busy already!

What does this win mean to you?

It means validation for the alternative side of the industry. It’s a sign that our style, our culture, our clients and our craft belong on big stages. For me personally, it’s a reminder that staying authentic, even when it’s the harder path, is always worth it.

What was your favourite takeaway from the night?

That the industry is evolving. There’s a real hunger for authenticity, diversity and fresh voices. That energy in the room felt electric. Seeing industry friends all together celebrating is just incredible… oh and the Guinness!

Most memorable After Party moment?

The disco ball head dancers really spun me out… and after several glasses of wine, I think I joined them for a few moves!

Who had the best moves on the dancefloor?

Apart from myself (obviously), Dom Capel was swinging those hips like Shakira!

Any other comments?

Just a huge thank you. To the judges, the team at Pro Hair, the supporters and everyone else carving their own lane in this industry. It honestly meant the world to win this, and I’m super proud to carry that achievement for this year!

I’d recommend that clients with this hair type get a trim every 6-8 weeks. Something as small as cutting an inch off can completely transform the hair’s appearance, leaving the client with thicker-looking, more voluminous hair!

Another tip is to ensure clients are choosing haircuts that complement their hair type. The combination of long locks and fine hair can look flat and lifeless, whilst opting for a bob can completely revitalise a look and give the illusion of thicker hair.”

BRANDON MESSINGER DENMAN CREATIVE “When cutting fine hair, you have to be really careful with the perimeter – if you remove too much weight, you will make the ends appear finer and wispier. Avoid square layers, as they can concentrate the bulk on the top interior of the cut and exaggerate the fineness, but instead work with triangular layering techniques to preserve the perimeter and avoid wispiness.”

“With fine hair, I like to keep everything light, precise and scalp friendly. I create the volume in the blow-dry by overdirecting the roots, playing with the parting and cooling it to lock it in. I still love a multi-brush/round-brush blow-dry with my ERGO brushes. (It’s how I trained at college!)

When cutting, use a blunt outline for instant density, with tiny micro-layers only where you want lift – usually just on the crown and face-frames. Short to mid-lengths naturally feel fuller, but if your clients are insistent on length, keep layers minimal and the ends compact.”

I first came across The Trust Equation through Simon Sinek, and it really stopped me in my tracks. Trust is such a huge thing, isn’t it? In life, in relationships and especially in business. Let’s face it, the people you trust are the people you want around you – both as clients and as colleagues.

And here’s the thing: They’re not always the high achievers. Of course, the dream is someone who’s both a high achiever and high in trust – that’s the sweet spot – but if I had to choose, I’d take a high-trust person and build their skills, rather than someone technically brilliant but unreliable or self-centred. Because you can train talent, but you can’t fake trust.

So, when I discovered this model – originally created by David Maister, Charles Green and Robert Galford, and later explored by Simon Sinek – it made perfect sense to me. It breaks down something that often feels intangible into something we can actually see and measure.

The equation looks like this: Trustworthiness = (Credibility + Reliability + Intimacy) ÷ Self-Orientation Let me explain it the way I see it in salon life:

craft. Do people believe you know what you’re doing?

Reliability is whether you keep your promises.

Are you consistent, on time, prepared, following through?

Intimacy is about how safe people feel with you. Can clients or teammates be open and honest, knowing you’ll treat that with care?

And then there’s Self-Orientation, which is basically ‘Who’s this really for?’ If your self-orientation is high, meaning it’s all about you, your trust score drops dramatically. But if it’s low and your focus is on others, then your trust naturally rises.

“You can teach cutting, colouring and styling, but you can’t teach attitude. You can’t teach someone to care about the collective more than themselves.”

That’s why people tend to trust those who aren’t in it purely for themselves. I mean, yes, I cut hair for money, but that’s never the first thing I think about. My purpose is to make someone look and feel fantastic – the money is a by-product of that.

I’d like to think of myself as a trustworthy hairdresser because I’m credible, I’m reliable and I value the intimacy of conversation. I’m doing it for the client, not my own ego.

Trust is absolutely central to what we do.

Clients aren’t just trusting us with their hair; they’re trusting us with their image, their confidence and often their emotions. They might spend two hours in your chair sharing the most personal stories, and that kind of connection relies on deep, genuine trust.

And within the team, it’s exactly the same. At The Gallery, when I’m in meetings and I tell the team there won’t be bonuses at Christmas because the money isn’t there – they have to trust me on that. They have to believe I’m being honest and transparent, not squirrelling money away somewhere. That level of trust doesn’t come from a single conversation; it’s built over time, through consistency and fairness.

It also works the other way round. When I’m hiring, trust is one of the first things I look for. Of course, I’ll look at someone’s qualifications and their skillset – that’s their credibility – but I’m also watching for reliability. Did they turn up on time?

Did they reply promptly? Are they genuinely engaged in the opportunity or are they just browsing?

You can teach cutting, colouring and styling, but you can’t teach attitude. You can’t teach someone to care about the collective more than themselves. At The Gallery, we have a saying: The power of the team is greater than the power of one.

That only works when trust is at the heart of everything.

Ultimately, The Trust Equation reminds me that it’s not enough to be talented; you have to be dependable, open and low on ego. When you get those elements in balance, trust flourishes – and when trust flourishes, culture follows.

That’s when a salon really thrives…

When I first began exploring the wider industry, if I saw someone consistently producing editorial work, competing or representing a brand, I reached out. A simple message asking for

advice or an assisting opportunity can open new pathways. Never underestimate the power of putting yourself forward. Great hairdressers are often flattered to support the next generation – they were there once too! Be curious. Ask questions. Introduce yourself. You never know who you’ll meet.

Being self-employed doesn’t mean working in isolation. In fact, your chair is a platform. The brands you choose – especially your colour houses and electrical partners – they should know who you are and what you bring creatively. Reach out to your colour brand representative and don’t be afraid to contact brands you admire or that align with your creative identity. Start a conversation about potential opportunities – whether that’s education roles, ambassador programmes, platform work at industry events, content collaborations, education days or even stage support at industry trade shows. These partnerships not only elevate your profile, but they deepen your connection to the industry and its creative community. Most brands are actively looking for relatable, enthusiastic hairdressers who represent the real salon world. You don’t need a huge following, just passion, professionalism and consistency.

Industry growth happens in community.

Attending shows, workshops and live demonstrations puts you in the room where real conversations and opportunities happen. No two careers in hairdressing are the same. Some climb through big salon groups; others carve their own route through freelance work, private studios or session styling. What matters is staying open, ambitious and connected.

Being self-employed isn’t a barrier; it’s freedom. You get to choose your lane, build your identity and decide how deeply to immerse yourself in the creative heartbeat of the industry. HOST WITH THE MOST SARAH LOUISE KEANE AND PETER TOBOLSKI, CO-FOUNDERS OF HOST MANCHESTER, BREAK DOWN THE NON-NEGOTIABLES OF ANY CO-WORKING SPACE. A new crop of co-working spaces is moving away from the basic ‘rent-a-chair’ model, combining the advantages of an employed salon infrastructure with the freedom of being freelance. One such space is Host in Manchester, a former nightclub set over two floors that aims to create ‘a very special salon environment that allows individuals to thrive.’ Co-Founders Sarah Louise Keane and Peter Tobolski share some insight on exactly what self-employed stylists should look for in today’s co-working spaces…

Mentoring

Sarah believes that while the hairdressing industry is passionate about encouraging talent, many salon owners hold back when it comes to motivating their stylists.

“There’s that culture of ‘I want you to do well, but not better than me!”’ she says. “I have been both an employed stylist and a chair renter, and both times I felt constrained – like I was only encouraged to soar so far.”

Sarah is hoping to shift this mindset by creating introductions for her members that open doors. “If someone wants to get more involved with a brand, or maybe they want to showcase at a trade show, if either of us know of someone that we think could help, then there’s no reason as to why we wouldn’t create that introduction,” she says.

“I want to champion and mentor the members, and the best way for me to do that is to work alongside them, to ensure I am approachable,” says Sarah. “It’s why we employ a manager to oversee the day-to-day business operation, and I just work out of the space as a member.”

Firstly, we softened and broke up the weight line in the client’s bob to help the shape blend more seamlessly. Because her natural hair was so short, I also showed the client a simple trick using small elastics to hide the shorter section at her nape. We then washed using sulphate-free shampoo, and dried to ensure clean, oil-free hair.

Next, we discussed several extension options within the Beauty Works range — including wefts and keratin tips. We ended up selecting tapes for this appointment, as it was the client’s first time having extensions and she didn’t want anything too permanent.

THREE During the application process, the main focus was adding bulk between the occipital and crown area to create a smoother blend and more natural movement through the hair.

FIVE FOUR For the top sections, we used single-sided tape tabs, which we then razored and layered – this would ensure the pieces remained light, airy and flowy.

After fitting, we cut and blended the extensions, and I showed the client some styling techniques that will help further disguise the bob and keep everything looking seamless. Lastly, we advised aftercare and not washing for 48 hours to ensure the adhesive was fully set

From backstage at Fashion Week to global education platforms, developing product lines and coaching the next generation, today’s hair pros are carving out incredible careers in every corner of the industry.

In this new series, we spotlight the trailblazers who have taken their craft into new arenas and found extraordinary success along the way.

DARREN AMBROSE ON SHOWS When you think of Darren Ambrose, you think of artistry, theatre and showstopping hair creations. Darren has spent his career crafting shows that are equal parts fashion, drama and pure immersion. In this first instalment of Hairdressing Unbound, we sat down to find out what it really takes to build and perform shows.

How did you first get into show work?

Jackie and I trained in a company that was on the show circuit at the time, and we were national and international show producers. We became their creative art directors, so from a very young age, we were quite immersed in that world. We both have an immense love of fashion, and we naturally just gravitated towards shows. They’re a great platform to push your brand and your signature. You can create stories of any sort – whether that’s driven by a product company or your own direction.

Was there a moment when you knew you’d made it?

There’s been so many epic moments!

I’m super blessed and grateful to have experienced such great opportunities to date. I suppose the first moment that stands out at the beginning is when we were doing a BA show at Central Saint Martins for a good friend of ours. While we were there, we noticed this young designer: Maria Holberg. Her tailoring was immense – very Vivienne Westwood-esque – and we ended up buying eight outfits from the collection.

Not long after, Julie Bellinger invited us to do a show at Congress, held at the

Grosvenor House Hotel, which was a huge honour as all the big greats were on that stage. We crafted everything – choreography by I Got Soul, models, hair, clothes, music, lighting. I think that was the turning point where people really noticed our passion to detail, creating characters and our love of fashion. It just elevated us to another level, and it all rolled from there.

What have been your highlights and most memorable moments?

This career has given us so much. I remember creating a show in Vegas, for four or five thousand people. I performed live TV beforehand, then presented a runway with 20+ models on a large stage. What a mind-blowing experience – it was off the Richter scale! And the recognition we got that night and onwards was unreal.

In LA, I worked on Sunset Boulevard, prepping in the dressing room that had

seen Prince, Bowie and so many others there before – the history and the feeling in that building was insane! The show was eclectic fashion featuring a whole mix of colours and textures. We also had the guitarist from Guns N’ Roses perform on stage, which was incredible.

What do you love most about creating a show?

I love how a show can take months to build and create. We just had the pleasure of creating the 2025 L’Oréal Colour Trophy show and that took six months – maybe more! I like to think about everything: Lighting, stage set, immersion, runway length, etc. It’s like you’re creating a room where the audience can have an immersive experience, so you also have to consider sound and music choice too. It’s not just about the model walking down a runway for us; it’s about creating authenticity and characters.

What’s a typical day or week for you?

It all depends – shows and creatives run like a separate business to the salon. I work all the time on the floor with clients, having great laughs with good friends. They are our grounding and business, but if we’ve got a job, those days are booked out. Your head has to keep switching between the roles, but I love that challenge! I’m not someone who can just stand stagnant – I need those different avenues. Even during the pandemic, we hired houses in London and made films, which we sold abroad for shows and online events. That’s another side of what we do and how we can adapt within our industry.

What are the biggest challenges?

There have been loads over the years!

Sometimes, things don’t go right unless you have a challenge. Sometimes, models don’t turn up or go missing in action after casting them. Sometimes, things change in an instant, so you always need a strategy – and a backup strategy! You might have to change your whole direction. Whether you are working on a campaign shoot with an art director or directing your own vision, you have to be very versatile and be able to very quickly create a different story.

What would you say is your secret to success?

Agility, planning ahead, all of that, but also passion. You need enough passion and focus to want to produce something authentic. It depends how you define success, but for me and Jackie, if we produce something and we love the story,

Is there anything you wish you’d known when you were first starting out?

Don’t wait and don’t worry. Grow some and just do it! People used to say to me, “Why are you doing Avant Garde? You can’t wear that.” But I got an amazing career off the back of it.

that’s success. Fashion is so opinionated and subjective – some people will love what you do, other people won’t. That’s life! If you get hung up on that, it suppresses your creativity. Stick to your essence and your signature, and you’ll reach your own version of success.

What’s your essential toolkit?

There are so many essential things I carry with me. If you’re travelling around the world doing shows, you’ve got so many different hair textures, so you’ve got to have everything covered. I carry millinery equipment, even things like paints and plastics – sounds weird, but the obscure stuff can become essential.

You need your thinking cap on for all eventualities. Pack up that bag like a bottomless pit of interesting equipment!

Jessica Plummer Jessica wanted her curls to look dark, glossy and healthy, while still keeping that subtle dimension that makes textured hair come alive. Her ends had lightened and turned a little brassy from the summer sun, so this was the perfect moment to deepen the tone and add a high-shine gloss that complemented her skin beautifully. I used Redken Shades EQ, starting with 04NB through the roots and pulling it into selected sections, then blending 04NB into 06NCH for soft dimension. I added Olaplex No.1 into every formula, followed with No.2, then finished with the Pro Scalp Treatment and Rich Hydration Mask for strength and condition. 쑼

Anisa Sojka 쑿 Anisa probably has the most recognisable hair on Instagram. It is so iconic

that she once got spotted from behind in Paris – and I was there to witness it! So, when she asked for a cut with more layers and face-framing movement, the pressure was very real. Luckily, her hair is incredible to work with, so I added soft layers through the lengths and face-framing pieces that start at the cheekbones to give her that signature swish and volume. I treated her hair with the Olaplex Rich Hydration Mask, then styled everything with my ghd Soft Curl Tong for maximum shine and bounce.

Tanya Burr My gorgeous friend Tanya has been living her blonde life for a few years, and recently we have been softening her look into a more natural, blended melt. She loves staying blonde through the lengths, but still wants that cool girl rooted finish that feels expensive and effortless. To create it, I matched her natural shade with Redken Shades EQ 06NB and 05G at the roots, then melted it into 09VG through the ends for a seamless transition. I always add Olaplex into the formulas to keep her blonde strong, glossy and healthy.

Zoe Sugg Zoe wanted a richer, longer look for winter, so we retired her summer blonde balayage and created what we named the ‘Gilmore Gloss’. I started with Redken Color Gels Oils in 04N at the root, then melted it into Shades EQ 09NB and 08GG through the mid-lengths and ends to give that glossy, cosy depth. To finish the transformation, I added 22-inch Remi Cachet tape extensions for serious length and fullness. We styled her new hair into Zoe’s signature soft waves using my ghd Chronos Max for that perfect shine.

Melanie C Melanie already has incredible hair, but after a busy run of styling and travel, it needed a little love. We kept her natural look but elevated it with Remi Cachet tape extensions, adding a touch of length and a lot of fullness. Before adding the tapes, I refreshed her colour to brighten her balayage, then used a blend of extension shades to create that lived-in dimension she wears so well. The new Hammersmith salon is a love letter to Italy – think soft Mediterranean tones, tactile textures, suspended mirrors and golden, glowing lights. It’s chic yet homely – the kind of space that radiates that ‘just stepped into summer’ feeling all year round. Designed with very warm, earthy hues and elegant finishes, it feels more like a Mediterranean home than a traditional salon – relaxed, inviting and effortlessly stylish. The ground floor is bright and open, while the basement offers a private escape for clients seeking calm and seclusion. Every detail has been considered to create a space that feels both beautifully designed and deeply comfortable.

Do you have any curated pieces or special features in the salon?

Yes, the new space features a number of unique design details that set it apart from a traditional salon. The pendant lamps, suspended elegantly from the ceiling, bring a distinctive aesthetic you don’t often see in this setting, casting a warm, golden light across the space. Our mirrors are embedded into circular tables rather than fixed to the wall, creating a more open and conversational feel.

We’ve also designed a cosy waiting area tucked away at the back, complete with a small bar and views of a little garden – a space where clients can relax with a drink or read a magazine before their appointment. The reception and waiting area are intentionally separate from the main salon floor to create a more fluid, comfortable experience.

It’s less about sitting and waiting, and more about settling in and feeling at home.”

How have you embraced sustainability within your design?

Sustainability has been at the heart of our design choices from the beginning. Most of the furniture, tiles and fittings have been sourced from smaller, independent European and UK brands. We’ve been conscious about every material used, prioritising quality and longevity over fast design. It’s about creating a beautiful space that feels good – both aesthetically and environmentally.

Do you have a dress code for your team?

We don’t have a strict dress code – our team is free to express themselves and show their creativity through what they wear. We hope their style can reflect the vibe of the salon: relaxed, stylish and effortlessly put-together. Think comfortable, casual-chic – a look that feels authentic and in tune with the space.

The initial draw for me was the fashion element and working with my hands, but there was so much more to come! I realised I was working with a team of like-minded creatives from every element of the fashion world.

Everything I wanted; hairdressing offered it!

What’s your drink of choice at the bar?

I’m very much a scotch and one cube of ice man.

I’m not a great drinker, but I enjoy getting a bit tipsy!

What’s the most treasured item in your kitbag?

I’ve just been on our annual HOB trip to Tokyo to teach in an academy, and this year I was gifted some incredible Hikari scissors which were tailor-made for me. I have 15 pairs in my kitbag, but I can’t stop using these!

What’s the last thing you bought?

The last thing was some pre-owned but brand-new Balenciaga boots. They are the perfect fit, and almost tailor-made for me. They make me feel like an astronaut because they’re so stiff!

A product that I can’t function without is Craft Clay

by Sebastian Professional. It’s a clay that makes the hair feel slightly dirty – giving it a more natural feel and natural movement without overloading it.

What’s your top binge-watch recommendation?

I’ve just finished watching MobLand with Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan. I absolutely loved it, but I always question why I like watching so much violence!

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

I haven’t done karaoke for 20 years – and I’d have to be pretty drunk if I did! – but it would be My Way by Frank Sinatra.
