GET CLOSER TO CUSTOMERS The Elex tradeshows are a series of regional events around the country where electricians come to see new products and innovations firsthand and keep up-to-date with the latest technical developments in the industry. It enables exhibitors to meet new customers face-to-face and demonstrate the benefits of their products in a dynamic hands-on environment.

Each show primarily targets electricians living within an hour and a half of the venue. For the visitor this reduces the number of working hours lost, with travelling time and costs kept to a minimum.

Elex is organised by the UK’s leading trade magazine Professional Electrician that has a combined print and digital audited circulation of around 80,000 every month. Print copies are distributed via the trade-counters of electrical wholesalers, including CEF, Edmundsons, Rexel, Electric Center, Denmans and Electricbase, as well as a host of leading independents. It is this experience that has produced an in-depth understanding of the buying habits of electricians and shaped the continued development of ElexShow.

The visitor demographic of Elex aligns closely with that of the readers of Professional Electrician. They are actively working electrical contractors, keen to see new products and ideas first-hand. They depend on innovative equipment and quality tools to enhance the efficiency of their work.

CPD SEMINARS A key part of the success of ElexShow are the free CPD seminars that take place on the latest rules, regulations and technical developments. Through the comprehensive seminar programme Elex continues to champion best practice in the electrical industry. This year the main focus has been on Amendment 4 of the Wiring Regulations and what practical impacts it has.

All sessions are accredited for Continuing Professional Development. It enables visitors to build up their required CPD hours and maintain their CPD record.

MARKETING The regional focus of the events is at the core of its main marketing platforms.

Extensive regional email campaigns are sent to the readers of Professional Electrician and Professional Electricians Wholesaler as well as previous visitors and third party trade data.

The regional databases for each show average at about 17,500 electrical professionals and each event campaign consists of over twenty emails to those databases, over a ten week period leading up the show. Content includes exhibitor specific highlights to promote their new products and show offers.

Continuing the regional effectiveness of the marketing, Facebook and Instagram advertising campaigns enable a further connection to electricians local to the venue.

They are also set to reach a younger demographic who might not have previously visited the event.

The campaigns views across all six shows is over 1.7 million.

All social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin are used to individually promote exhibitors, both in the lead up to the show and on the day. They are encouraged to supply key information about deals, product launches and general plans for the show, to enable further promotion. Special offers are also promoted in pre-show Discount Voucher book that also includes incentives such as free bacon rolls and free Professional Electrician T-shirts.

The core regional marketing is further boosted on a national level through wider channels, highlighting the whole schedule of events rather than specific shows. We work closely with selected trade influencers to promote the benefits of attending the events to new audiences in new formats.

A high impact advertising campaign, backed up with editorial features, also runs continually in Professional Electrician and Professional Electricians Wholesaler. This alone has an annual reach of over 575,000 electrical tradespeople.
