Good afternoon everyone and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!, Welcome back to Lakeview for this afternoon’s Toolstation Western League Division One fixture with Middlezoy Rovers. We offer a warm welcome as usual to their supporters & officials along with the three match officials too, hoping they all have a safe journey home too. Our visitors arrive in the village for the first time for a Western League match, having been promoted into the division last summer. They have enjoyed an impressive debut season and currently sit in the top half with 12 wins and 13 defeats from their 27 matches. Today will be a tough game but let’s hope we kick off 2024 in a positive manner. We should also thank everyone involved with Bishop Sutton for their hard work during what has been a difficult time. We hope you enjoyed your Christmas and thank you as always for your great support; enjoy the game.
Bishop Sutton Club History
The club was re-formed in 1977 with just an U15 team playing in the Weston-superMare Sunday League and then progressing in successive seasons to the Bristol and Avon League U16s and the second and first divisions before being admitted into the Somerset Senior League for the 1981-82 season. The next ten years were spent climbing through the four divisions before being voted into the Western League for season 1991-92. The First Division was won in 1997-98 and then followed seventeen successive seasons in the Premier Division, the highlight being winning the Premier title in 2012-13. Unfortunately our ground grading did not permit progression to the Southern League and all the team management and players then left the club. Relegation from the Premier followed at the end of season 2014-15 and we have experienced mixed fortunes in the First Division since then. For the season 2020-21 Jon Toy came in as manager but unfortunately we were only able to play 10 games before the season was curtailed due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Having retained a lot of last season’s squad and added a couple of new players, we finished in mid table in season 2021/22 followed by seventh place last season. Jon left in the summer and was replaced by Catalin Andrei and Steve Taylor.

Focus on.... MIDDLEZOY ROVERS
Established in 1973 after purchasing a parcel of land from the MOD on the site of Westonzoyland Airfield. The club played in the local leagues having various forms of success with Chris Burt and Bill Coldwell and some failures that in 2005 saw the club concede over 100 goals and be relegated. In 2006 and whilst in the TDSFL Div 2 it was decided things needed to change or the club would fold. The focus was to change the club from being a mid to late 20 year olds to mix in 17/18 year olds and try to give the club some depth. This with luck happened and there was an influx of fresh faced 17 year old young players – they are now 35 years old. In 2008 and the club had 1 x adult male team. We now have 3 Adult Male, 1 Vets Team, 1 Ladies Team and 17 youth Teams. Paul Bennett (Ex-Chairman) and Johnny Warren took the reigns of the 1st Team after Sean Boobyer and Craig Berry guided the team into the TDSFL Div 1. Johnny and Paul guided the team to TDSFL champions in 2012 and the promotion to the Somerset County League. This meant digging up the old entrance drive and buying part of a field from a neighbour. The best choice we made. 2012/13 Somerset County League Division 2 West : Finished 2nd and Promoted 2013/14 Somerset County League 1st Division : Finished 4th 2014/15 Somerset County League Division 1 West : Finished 3rd 2015/16 Somerset County League Division 1 West : Champions – Lost 0 League Games Uhlsport Somerset County Premier Division : 2016/17 : 5th | 17/18 : 5th | 18/19 : 4th | COVID | 21/22 5th | 22/23 : 3rd and promotion to the Toolstation Western League. The old changing facilities were an old WWII out building with a tin bath, no mains electricity and water pressure that was a trickle. In 2020 after 10 years of putting all the pieces in place we were very fortunate to gain grants from various sources including the Football Foundation, FSIF, Viridor, Sport England and many smaller grants that mean as a collective we have spent over £600K making a community football club that should last for many years for many people to enjoy.
