Non-League Footballers Mental Health Championed by Bath Mind and the Toolstation Western League
The Toolstation Western League are working with Bath Mind to pilot a mental health partnership supporting the football family and players in particular.
The six Western League sides located in Bath and North East Somerset have been offered specially created posters, promoting mental health support services designed to help younger people, which can be located into their home and away changing rooms.
Research conducted by the Toolstation Western League earlier this season highlighted that around a quarter of players had considered seeking help with a mental health issue. The subject of mental health was first tackled by the Western League in March 2020, when they launched their Think of a Fan campaign.
Chairman of the Western League, John Pool, explained: “Think of a Fan was our way of remembering that for many fans, football is more than just a game. It’s an important release, a chance to meet friends, get out of the house and have some fun. Many people are still working through the loneliness and anxiety caused by lockdown, but we must not forget that our players are no different. They are as important to us as any members of our football family and this important partnership with Bath Mind is our way of supporting them.”
As well as changing room posters, Bath Mind have provided leaflets for fans, as well as programme adverts, highlighting the variety of support services they provide. If successful, this initial pilot will be extended by the Western League to cover all 40 Clubs across the South West of England, from Cornwall to Wiltshire.
Hannah Roper, Director of Business Development at Bath Mind, said: “We at Bath Mind are thrilled to be working in partnership with The Toolstation Western League, to support and promote positive mental health for the football community.
Throughout the pandemic Bath Mind has been fighting an epidemic of mental ill-health. We have increased our services to meet the growing needs of our community, and help reduce pressure on NHS services.
Through this pilot we hope to encourage everyone to talk about their mental health, seek help at an early stage and reduce the stigma associated with mental ill-health. As a local, independent charity, Bath Mind relies heavily on local fundraising to keep our services going, therefore we are grateful to The Toolstation Western League and their fans for their fundraising efforts.”

BRISLINGTON
George Dorrington Goalkeeper
Has a great pedigree having been at Manchester United & Huddersfield Town until he was 20. This is his fourth season at the club. Vocal keeper who has excellent reflexes
Lewis Ewins Defender
Second season at the club and was at Bath City U18s last season. Ball playing full back who has an excellent range of passing
Danny Barwood – Defender
The team’s longest serving player. Apart from a short spell at Hengrove had come through the juniors. Strong defender who loves a tackle.
Lewis Dunn Defender
Also came through the juniors but has had spell at other clubs since. However, always comes back home. Wide midfielder who has converted to centre half. Very confident on the ball.
Asa White – Defender
Second season at the club after signing from Shepton Mallet. Probably one of the best headers of the ball in the league and dangerous from set pieces. Will be the club captain this year.
Harry Tobin – Defender/ Midfield
Third Season at the club after signing from Guernsey FC. Good footballer at either left back or in midfield. Will chip in with goals as well.
Jack Allward – Defender
New signing this season. Has previously been at Paulton, Larkhall & Bitton. Will add strength to the defence this season.
Ashley Kington – Midfield
First full season with the club after signing from Bitton last season. Has played at a good level with Weston. Loves to have the ball & known to score the odd spectacular goal.
Joe McLennan.
Another signing from Bitton. Pacy tricky winger who loves to go at players. Another player who has played at a higher level.

BRISLINGTON
Joel Smith - Midfield
Recently signed from Bristol Telephones, only 18 years old & already showing what he gives to the team. Does everything simple, a good asset to the squad.
Ash McGrane - Midfield
New signing from AEK Boco. Strong workhorse midfielder who will be a great addition to the team. Unfortunately, will miss the start of the season with a broken toe.
Billy Vaughan – Midfield
Recently signed from Bishop Sutton. Ball playing midfielder, previously at the club a few years ago.
Jordan Ricketts – Midfield
New signing from Hallen; fits in well in to midfield but can also act as cover at the back & in the No 10 role.
Josh Egan – Midfield / Forward
New signing this season. Been at Bitton & Corsham. Loves the ball at his feet & chips in with important goals.
Jordan Scadding – Midfield / Forward
Second season with the club and last year’s top scorer & player of the year. Tricky winger who always seems to find space and get in good positions to score.
Kain Edmondson – Forward
Hope to see Kain back at some stage this season following a cruciate knee injury. Was proving to be a valuable player until his season was cut short.
George Jones Midfield / Forward
Hard working player who has boundless energy. Works hard for the team and chips in with a decent amount of goals.
Danny Dodimead – Forward
New signing from Hengrove. Has a short spell at the club before. Was top scorer for Hengrove last season. Loves to go at defenders and tricky with the ball at his feet.
Dean Griffiths – Forward
New signing from Bitton who is a proven goalscorer at this level. Strong old fashioned centre forward and something we have lacked in previous seasons.
