When Lisa was a teenager, she told God she did not want to be a missionary, and under no circumstances did she EVER want to go to Africa! Well, in August of this year, we went to Africa for the first time, and Lisa was most excited!
After a 2- day journey from Georgia to South Africa, our dear brothers and sisters received us (and the Edwardses) with a parade, and the sanctuary was already filled when we arrived! What a welcome! We have never experienced anything like that. Before the evening was over, we were symbolically inducted into diPerent clans.
We visited ministry sites and churches across the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Road-tripping with the SA General Superintendent and other South African EMC ministers enabled us to see and experience the real South Africa.
The stated purpose of the trip to South Africa was to help the Conference start its own pastor’s school. We are glad to report the South Africa Evangelical School of Ministry will begin its first intensive module in February 2025 and will be hosted at EMC HQ in South Africa (locally known as LUMEC Mission Centre. DO YOU WANT TO GO to South Africa? Save the date for June 2026. This trip will focus on a youth and children’s camp at LUMEC Mission Centre near Lusikisiki and will be open to a limited number of EMCers from the USA.
SOUTH AFRICA 2026!
The Walkers are full-time EMC missionaries serving exclusively in the EMC and are funded only by your generous support. They live near Athens, Georgia, but are your missionaries to ALL 5 GLOBAL CONFERENCES (Mexico, Myanmar, Asia Pacific, CFAN, and South Africa).
You might have heard that the Walkers are “fully funded for the first time in 14 years.” That DOES NOT MEAN they don’t need you to support them anymore. It DOES MEAN that the EMC Board of World Missions and Board of Finance consulted each other and found enough money to provide a full-time package for both Bill AND Lisa. There is only enough money in that fund to last until June 30, 2025, therefore they must raise an additional $50,000 of annual support to continue full-time beyond that date.
What can you do? Invite them to speak at your church or home group. Pray that God will provide the full need. Join their support team by giving directly or through your local church. Imagine if each EMC congregation in the USA supported the Walkers with an ongoing monthly gift of $150 they would remain fully funded, year after year.
