“Why Should I Vote?”
General Superintendent

We’re less than a month away from election day in these United States.

Don’t stop reading … not yet at least. Don’t get scared that I’m going to poke my nose through your ballot-box curtain - - I won’t. Don’t imagine that I’m going to TELL you how you should vote - - I won’t. And don’t think that I’m going to declare which of our political parties is the most godly - - wouldn’t think of it (as if there were a true and reliable answer to that question.)
But here’s what I will do, which has the potential of offending you anyway - - I will tell you that if you are 18 or over, YOU SHOULD VOTE. Period.
Am I admonishing you to CAST YOUR VOTE. because I think that one candidate or the other is the answer to all our prayers? NO!
Am I admonishing you to CAST YOUR VOTE. because I think that America will cease to exist if we elect the “wrong” person? NO!
Do I think you should CAST YOUR VOTE. for one political party or the other so that God will finally love you (or love our nation)? NO! He already does. Will CASTING YOUR VOTE. In the “right” direction mean more people will come to Jesus? NO! At least I can’t imagine that to be true.
I believe you and I should CAST A VOTE. because we are Americans!! Taking advantage of the privilege of helping to choose those who govern is a precious freedom that should not be forfeited simply because we dislike the stilted and distasteful rhetoric surrounding this particular Presidential race.
We probably have differing opinions about what our federal government should be doing. We may very well have strong feelings about things like protecting the unborn and other aspects of national and international policy. But the freedom to vote our consciences is what our republic is about - you and I being given the option to express our views in ballot choices. We should all exercise that right, and then pray that our Wise and All-Knowing God will seat only those whom He has chosen to lead.
