Rest. Sabbath. Understanding that being children of God is who we are, rather than seeing ourselves as employees working for God.

These were the subjects of Pastor Anna McGarrah’s message at Nampa Crossroads on October 1st.

She and her husband Barry are transitioning into the role of lead pastors there as Drs. Jim and Dori Halbert guide and direct the handoff of leadership to them, and others.

Pastor Anna’s text was Matthew 11:20-30. Jesus was addressing the people of the cities of Korazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum, challenging them to repent - - to turn from their sin and recognize the simple truth in front of them that is so easily hidden from the self-assured crowd. The simple truth is that Jesus is the way. HE is God … The very Son of God, and is the answer.

Jesus offers the simple opportunity to link our lives to His (the yoke He mentions). The contrast so powerfully drawn by the LORD is the difference between the “weary” and “heavy” way of trusting in ourselves to accomplish enough. It is a false notion of Christian faith that if we work hard enough FOR God, then He’ll have to accept us in his kingdom. Jesus offers us a “humble, gentle” way that is “easy” and “light.” The powerful, transformational truth is that Jesus calls us to a bonded relationship in which we truly take on HIS CHARACTER, not just take on A TASK LIST.

And, on an entirely personal note … Judy and I had the absolute joy of having brunch that same Sunday with two of the most powerful examples we know of the kind of SIMPLE FAITH that Pastor Anna was preaching about. A faith that trusts God implicitly; serves with transparent humility; and supports the church and its leaders with passionate encouragement and prayer.

THANK YOU! Wally and Pam Pentecost. You both are heroes to Judy and I.
