The EMC Mexico Global Conference strives to hold a pastors’ and spouses’ retreat each year. These are times of refreshing, spiritual recharge, and fellowship. Last month, the retreat was in Torreon, on the campus of the headquarters and the Bible Institute. We are glad to have a close connection with the Francis Asbury Society through EMC elder (and former missionary kid) Rev. Dr. Jim Harriman. Dr. Harriman was the invited speaker for the retreat.

Our annual Pastoral Retreat is something we strive for; unfortunately, last year we had to postpone it due to unforeseen circumstances. This year, by the grace of the Lord, we were able to gather, even though we almost had to postpone it again… but thanks be to God for His help, it was possible. One could say that the opposition we face is compounded by earthly problems. The Holy Spirit used Brother Jim Harriman to speak to us through the teaching and preaching of the Word. That powerful Word, like a sword, pierces and lays bare the heart … it also reveals His love for us. We give thanks to God, the pastors, and their congregations for allowing us to share in this blessing. We thank God for the unity we witnessed and enjoyed together.
Keep praying for EMC Mexico! The Bible Institute has a great enrollment this year, with Pastor Lupita Rocha continuing as Director and pastors the Good News EMC in Juarez. Pastor Alma Martinez and her husband, Alejandro, serve the House on the Rock EMC in a very poor neighborhood on the outskirts of Torreon. Rev. Jeronimo Salazar and his wife, Nereida, continue to serve a young church in Garcia, a bedroom community of Monterrey. Pastor Jose Lerma and his wife, Rosa, are doing a good ministry in San Juanito up in the beautiful mountains of Chihuahua despite his tremendous back
problem. Rev. Antonio del Angel continues ministering Magdalena, was promoted to glory last year. Rev. church charge in the Tarahumara mountains. Rev. Josue Perez and his wife, Rut, provide excellent leadership in the youth ministry at the denominational level and in developing young leaders in addition to their local church ministry. Pastor Rosy Garza leads her church in Guadalupe as they reach out in their community. Pastor Rosa Ari torch in one of the most historic congregations in Chihuahua City. his wife, Jessica (both originally from Honduras), have served the Torreon Life and Truth congregation for many years. Rev. Salomon Flores (widowed and remarried to Luz Elena) has served the Rock of Horeb congregation in Chihuahua City for decades; he is a sought-after Bible teacher. Rev. Daniel Duran and his wife, Luz, serve The Beautiful EMC in Cuahtemoc, our largest congregation in Mexico. Space does not permit me to tell of all our fine pastors! We praise God for each one!
EMC Mexico turns 100 this year! We’ll write more about that later this year, but pray for our oldest partner, for a new generation of pastors and Christian leaders to be called to carry the Gospel to the people of Mexico! Perhaps you would like to attend (July 30-Aug 2). Contact us to learn how!
