Raising up and equipping leaders is one of the most important things we do. We teach with our mouth, and our pen, but those are not the most effective discipleship tools … MODELING is.
A parent or mentor might say, “Do what I say, not what I do,” but that is wishful thinking. People are watching us. Without using a word, we are training those around us. The Apostle Paul indeed strongly instructed his protégé Timothy to study the Scripture (2 Timothy 3:15-17), and there is no better admonition - - no better text book than that. But in addition to pressing Timothy to the WORD, the great Apostle and disciple maker encouraged his student to mark the pattern of his life.

We teach by how we live. Period! And no amount of words to the contrary will be as powerful a lesson as our conduct. When we are patient, we teach patience. When we are kind, we teach kindness. But when we are angry, we teach anger. When we are arrogant, we teach arrogance.
