Family Ties As International General Superintendent, I have felt led to talk repeatedly about one word this year - FAMILY. Our geography doesn’t matter. Our heart language doesn’t matter. Our ancestral heritage doesn’t matter. We are not family because of those things. BUT WE ARE FAMILY BECAUSE OF JESUS. No matter whether we are in the United States, Asia, Africa, Europe, Mexico, Canada, or anywhere else in the world, we are connected by and through HIM.
“So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.” (Ephesians 2:19)
If you were able to watch the Tuesday evening session of our online Journey in July, you heard me talk about the importance of spiritual family. This incredible concept is God’s creation. Jesus himself declared that His “real” family is made up of His followers, rather than His biological kinfolk. It is our spiritual family that should boast the most important family ties.
“While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” (Matt 12:46-50) What does all this mean for us today? Well, among other things, it means that we are never alone! Jesus’ promise that the Holy Spirit would dwell continually with us gives great comfort (John 14:7), but we are also to be directly connected to a large and wonderful family of fellowbelievers (Ephesians 3:15). And it means that we should be:
patient and humble (Ephesians 4:2) unified (Ephesians 4:3) mature and honest (Ephesians 4:14-15) and deeply connected (Ephesians 4:16)

Kannapolis EMC Welcomes Rev. Alan & Mrs. Crystal Woodie by, USA Conference Superintendent, Kevin Brouillette
On Sunday morning, August 23, 2020, Kannapolis EMC voted to call Alan and Crystal Woodie as their new pastor. Pastor Alan comes with great evangelistic gifts and has over 30 years of ministry experience as a bi-vocational pastor. Pastor Alan is proficient and knowledgable in the areas of listening, training, teaching, writing, computer skills, standing over boards and committees, and working alongside law enforcement where he has served as a pastor and security officer. Pastor Alan has also served as the Dean of Indian Cave Youth Camp in Danville, VA, keeping watch at night over the camp and youth by protecting the campers from themselves, animals and outside intruders for 22 years. Kannapolis EMC has served their community for over 70 years. They sponsor wonderful Vacation Bible School programs and on Wednesday evenings they host a “Good News” club for children and teenagers. They have sponsored more than 200 children through Operation Christmas Child. The church also opens their doors for a community day care providing another opportunity to teach children the Word of God. Looking forward, Pastor Alan is encouraging his church family to have a monthly community outreach with a focus on the multi-cultural families in their neighborhood. Pastor Alan is praying that God will send a wave of renewal and revival that will sweep through Kannapolis. This is another beautiful Evangelical Methodist Church serving God and it’s community.
EMW’s Wear Blue Day is the 11th of every month bringing awareness to the issue of human trafficking. September 11, 2001
October 11, 2020 is Wear Blue Sunday
As you remember 9/11 and reflect on how those events affected our country and you personally, take time out this year to think about those trapped in human trafficking.
The EMW is asking the EMC Family to wear blue on the 11th of every month to help draw attention to the epidemic of human trafficking.
And maybe consider doing something else: • Further educate yourself on the issue • Work to raise the awareness of others • Give to those in front-line ministries • Pray for both victims and rescuers
Please also consider making a special offering on October 11th in support of the fight against human trafficking and for those in the recovery process. Annual Church Conference Schedule The Conference Superintendents have been working hard to finalize the comprehensive plan for Annual Church Conference meetings around the country.
