The selections of the cutting tools 1. For the work piece which hardness below HRC45, it better choose carbide cutting tools . 2. For the work piece which hardness is between HRC45 and HRC55,it is better choose ceramic cutting tools and cbn insert, and you can choose more suitable cutting tools depending on the practical situations. 3. For the work piece which hardness above HRC60,Halnn recommend CBN insert.
There are 3 kinds cutting tools, which include carbide alloy insert ,ceramic insert, cbn insert and diamond insert. Depending on the hardness of machining materials, CBN insertďźžCeramic insertďźž Carbide alloy insert. CBN insert and ceramic insert are better used for high speed machining. And if the cutting speed is low, it will be not fit for cbn insert.
The application field of CBN insert
CBN insert are mainly used for high hardness materials and difficult to machining materials, such as high hardness cast iron/cast steel, high hardness steel after heat-treating ,gray cast iron, ductile cast iron, powder alloy, high temperature alloy, ect. CBN insert include Welded cbn insert and solid cbn insert. Welded cbn insert is first researched by some Europe countries, and mainly used for finishing process, small working allowance can make sure high surface roughness, but cannot use interrupted situation. Solid CBN insert is researched by China, it can large allowance cutting and interrupted turning high hardness work piece. And with the development of the technology ,China already researched welded cbn insert which realized semi-interrupted turning. For example,BN-H21 CBN insert ,it not only make sure not chipping ,but also has well wear resistance, and received the recognition by many manufacturers.
