Recent happenings at Villa Dalmacia

The past few months at Villa Dalmacia have been filled with sunshine and celebration, plus plenty of opportunities to enjoy time together as we welcomed the start of summer

Our attendees recently enjoyed a lovely outing to The Vale, where good food and friendly conversation made for a relaxed and memorable day The warmer weather has also been perfect for our outdoor activities, including a peaceful BBQ lunch at Bibra Lake a beautiful way to enjoy the fresh air and each other’s company

Back at the Centre, the Villa has been buzzing with seasonal fun We embraced the spirit of Halloween with costumes, decorations, and plenty of laughter, followed by the excitement of Melbourne Cup celebrations, complete with sweeps, fascinators, and a fun atmosphere throughout the day

Attendee Spotlight –Giuseppe Currenti

At 98, Giuseppe brings warmth, humour, and rich life experience to Villa Dalmacia Day Centre Though he still drives confidently, he prefers taking the Villa shuttle twice a week a routine he’s kept for four years

Born near Taormina, Sicily, Giuseppe came to Australia in 1952 and built a life with his late wife, also a beloved Villa attendee. After her passing six years ago, he began attending alone, forming deep friendships, including with others sharing his Sicilian roots

Giuseppe enjoys food, especially favourites like Cotoletta, which remind him of home Now living alone, he finds companionship and belonging during his visits His presence is cherished, and he remains an important part of the Villa Dalmacia family

Music has continued to be a favourite, with Sharon’s singalongs filling the Villa with her wonderful voice and familiar tunes Her sessions remain a highlight, bringing joy and plenty of smiles

It’s also been a delight to celebrate some very special birthdays within our Villa family A heartfelt congratulations to Noemi on turning 93, to Mrs Ventura on her 90th birthday, and to Mrs Sinagra Brisca who recently celebrated her 78th Each milestone brought warmth to the centre and reminded us of the strong connections that make the Villa such a special place.

From themed celebrations and musical moments to shared meals and sunny outings, the Villa continues to be a vibrant hub of friendship and community We look forward to many more wonderful memories as summer continues

Physio-Inspired Stretching Session a Hit at the Villa

Our attendees recently enjoyed a special visit from one of White Oak’s Physiotherapists, Claudio, who led a gentle stretching session at the Villa

It was Claudio’s first time delivering a physio-style program at the Villa and it quickly became a favourite

Participants were keen to join in as Claudio guided them through slow, mindful stretches His warm style, switching easily between English and Italian, made the session enjoyable for all, with smiles and plenty of movement throughout

A big thank you to Claudio for bringing such energy and encouragement Everyone left feeling refreshed, and we’re now looking at making this a regular part of our activity program

Staff Profile Highlight: Roy Hodgson

If you’ve ever stepped onto the Villa bus, chances are you’ve been greeted by the warm smile and easy-going nature of Roy Hodgson Roy has been part of the Villa Dalmacia team for the past five years, working as a Day Centre Attendant – a role that includes everything from driving the bus to lending a helping hand wherever it’s needed.

Roy plays a big part in making sure our attendees arrive safely and comfortably each day, typically managing anywhere from 6 to 14 pick-ups and drop-offs But his role doesn’t stop at the driver’s seat

He’s always ready to roll up his sleeves and support the rest of the team – whether that’s helping put stock away, setting up for activities, or just being a dependable and cheerful presence around the centre

What Roy enjoys most is the interaction – both with his fellow staff and the attendees He says working at the Villa is incredibly rewarding, and he genuinely values being part of such a supportive and close-knit team His approachable manner and willingness to jump in wherever needed make him a much-loved member of the Villa family

Thanks for everything you do, Roy – the place wouldn’t be the same without you!

A Perfect Day Out at Bibra Lake

With the warmer weather finally arriving, it’s been wonderful to enjoy more outdoor activities and our recent outing to Bibra Lake was the perfect way to make the most of it
