Hall County Library System Receives Award

The Hall County Library System was honored with the Pillars of the Southside Community award by the Gainesville-Hall County Black History Society, recognizing their significant contributions to the area. The award celebrates the library's dedication to fostering literacy, providing accessible resources, actively engaging with the Hall County community, and preserving and promoting its rich history and culture. This recognition highlights the library's vital role in building a stronger, more informed, and connected community for all residents.

The Gainesville-Hall County Black History Society, Inc., led by Rickey Young, is a nonprofit organization founded April 20, 2002, with a mission to “collect, preserve and educate.”

Two-Hearts Loom: Weaving Peace

Two-Hearts Loom creates unique woven art pieces using a floor loom. The artist finds weaving a peaceful and playful process, experimenting with colors and textures. While the warp threads are new, the weft (cross threads) consists of repurposed materials like clothing, fabric scraps, and even buttons and beads. This upcycling honors the environment. A particularly meaningful project is creating "Remembrance" pieces, woven from the clothing of loved ones to honor their memory. The artist carefully considers the person or occasion while preparing and weaving these special pieces.
