Melissa McBride Stille of Stille-DeWitt Health Brokerage, LLC

Melissa McBride Stille Works for Clients—Not the Insurance Company!

Are you turning 65 and need help navigating through your options?

Are you turning 65 and thinking about retirement and don’t know what to do? “Many people are trying to decide if they should retire and how that would impact their health insurance.” says independent insurance agent Melissa McBride Stille, “If someone is 65 years old and wants to stop working, knowing their health care options ahead of that decision is crucial because there are far reaching consequences.” Melissa has been in the health insurance industry for 14 years and is the sole proprietor of Stille-DeWitt Health Brokerage. She says, “DeWitt Insurance Agency has been in business since 1956. When I purchased the agency’s health department, I incorporated it into my agency name to keep the continuity within the community.” As a health insurance broker specializing in Medicare, she is dedicated to presenting her clients with the best health care options available. She says at age 65 most people need to think about the pros and cons of Medicare options or continuing insurance through their employer. Don’t stress over the paperwork she says, “All you need is to bring me is yourself and your current group benefits. Don’t depend on your Human Resources department to help you because they are not insurance specialists. We can do a three way call between yourself, your HR dept and me so I can thoroughly assess your situation. Together we will optimize your benefits while tailoring them to your needs.” Melissa can also facilitate your Medicare application with the Social Security office. “There are many factors, particularly with Medicare Part B.” Some scenarios involve penalties but they may not apply to you, that’s why working with a Medicare specialist is critical to obtaining the best outcome. Each client presents individual issues. You may have a spouse who is dependent on your benefits and too young for Medicare. Melissa will help you compare the cost of staying at your current position and using your employer benefits plan, versus retiring and having your spouse obtain health insurance through the marketplace. Perhaps your spouse has a chronic illness or is in an assisted living facility—these are important factors in your decision.

Step By Step Process

• Is Medicare Primary or Secondary • Open enrollment periods • Deductibles vs out of pocket • Spousal Considerations • All income levels need expert guidance Melissa also works with Medicare recipients under 65, including those who have Medicare through Social Security Disability and with people using Affordable Care Act Marketplace insurance, and some group insurances. “I care about each and every client and do a review of everyone’s health policies every year because there are so many changes annually,” she says. “I like to simplify things and present you with your best options.” She gives every client her cell number—it’s in all of her advertising so that every client, even future clients, can feel comfortable reaching out to her. She says, “I work for my clients, not the insurance company.” If you have a question regarding Medicare or other health insurance options, give Melissa a call!

FAST TRACK TO SUCCESS Rincon Race Car Driver Haiden Cowan Finds the Right Gear Story by Stephen Prudhomme Photography by Erich Perez

H

aiden Cowan has done much in his 19 years of life. He’s a licensed airplane and helicopter pilot who survived an explosive gasoline fire that knocked him off his feet and a crash in which his race car flipped seven times. Despite these setbacks, the Rincon resident’s life remains on full throttle as he continues to fly around the track and through the air. Rum Runner Racing Team Haiden is a member of the Rum Runner Racing Team, which is based in North Carolina and owned by the Coulter family. He competes in the Super Dirt Late Model Series, featuring cars with longhorn chassis and 930-horsepower engines on quarter-mile and half-mile dirt tracks around the country.

12 February/March 2024 | www.EFFINGHAMMAGAZINE.com

Haiden drives at speeds averaging 80 to 100 mph and topping at 150 mph in races ranging from 50 to 100 laps. In his first year in the series, Haiden, who receives a percentage of the fourman’s crew earnings, said he typically ran in the middle of the 24-to 28-car field; heats feature anywhere from 30 to 100 drivers vying for a spot in the race. “I enjoy the competitiveness and driving fast,” said the Rincon native, who also competes for the family racing team with his younger brother, Gavin. “I get to travel around the country and race against people who have become my buddies.” Harold Holly is Haiden’s crew chief. He was in NASCAR for 30 years, including 25 as a crew chief, and worked for such top drivers as Alan Kulwicki and Michael

Waltrip. The Super Dirt Late Model Series, Holly noted, is the Cup level of dirt track racing and is much harder than NASCAR, with racers driving as hard as they can. With many of the drivers in their 30s and having competed in hundreds of races, Haiden is short on experience. Holly compared it to a yellow belt in karate going against a 12-degree black belt. Still, Haiden has shown he’s not out of his league and is setting a fast pace of his own. “I’ve never worked with a faster driver in my career,” Holly said. “Haiden’s real fast. He’ll put his foot all the through the floor and run 10 laps. He’s so comfortable going at high speeds and wide open. He has an amazing ability to do that. His demeanor is so calm and he’s very, very smart. His foot-to-eye coordination is

pretty unbelievable. That comes from flying a plane and helicopter.” Holly said Haiden absolutely has the talent to compete in NASCAR or any other major race series. He noted there was a massive difference in Haiden’s performance from the first few races to the last part of the year and expects him to have a better sophomore season. Competing against older and more experienced drivers, Haiden managed to finish between fourth and ninth on average. “On a scale of 1 to 10, Haiden is a 10 in terms of ability,” Holly said. “We want to put the tools in his bag so he can get the job done.” Joey Coulter is a former Toyota Truck Series driver who owns the Rumrunner Racing Team with his parents. They were introduced to Haiden through dirt

track driver Brandon Overton and were impressed with his laid back demeanor and how that countered Holly’s intense approach. They also were impressed with his performance on the track. “He had a spectacular rookie season,” Coulter said. “Haiden exceeded expectations in every category. He worked well with Harold and showed some awesome speed. Haiden has the natural ability to go fast and the demeanor to stay really, really focused. You don’t see him making many mistakes. He has the potential to be among the best in dirt track racing.” A Lifetime of Interest Haiden has gravitated toward faster modes of travel for most of his life. He started riding dirt bikes with Gavin when

he was 3 years old and continued for some three years, until his older brother was killed in a car crash. Haiden’s father, Brad, said his sons were scared to ride after their brother’s death. Two years later, Haiden, following the suggestion of a neighbor, took to the wheel of a go-cart at a the dirt track in Pineora and raced for two years. “I fell in love with racing,” he said. Haiden graduated to mini late model cars and enjoyed some success racing from 2013 to 2016 on dirt tracks throughout the Southeast. In 2020, he went up to the late model series and finished fourth in his first race. “I thought to myself this is awesome,” Haiden recalled. Brad Cowan said Haiden has always liked speed and learning how to race a car and fly a plane and helicopter. His helicopter pilot, he noted, said Haiden had a knack for learning to fly a craft that is difficult to operate. Although he never raced cars and finds it difficult to understand the sport, Brad said he’s proud of his son and has encouraged him to take advantage of every opportunity that comes along.

A neighbor saw the explosion and came over to help. He took Haiden to the latter’s home and called for emergency medical care. A Lifeline helicopter was dispatched from Springfield and landed in Cowan’s front yard. He was flown to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta and, amazingly, was released after four days, wrapped in bandages. “I looked like a mummy,” said Haiden, who took several months to recover from his burns. “The pain was terrible. My jacket had melted to my arm. I had to have skin grafts.” As a result of the accident, Haiden, who was the points leader, was unable to compete in the last two races of the late model series and missed out on likely winning the championship. On the plus side, he gained a new appreciation for helicopters. “The helicopter landed in my front yard,” said Haiden, who is not yet licensed to carry passengers. “They can land anywhere. I decided to take flying lessons. A pilot trained me. It’s really, really hard flying a helicopter. You have to use your hands and feet. I enjoy the challenge.”

You don’t see Haiden making many mistakes. He has the potential to be among the best in dirt track racing.

Rising from Adversity Cowan didn’t limit his fast travels to the ground. He earned his pilot’s license when he was 17 and flies a Cirrus singleengine plane. “I’ve always loved flying,” Cowan said. Flying a helicopter, on the other hand, wasn’t something he planned. That came about due to an accident that resulted in Haiden flying twice through the air, once out of control and the second time as a helicopter passenger. On Nov. 9, 2021, Haiden and Gavin were clearing space on their property to build a dirt bike track; they had stacked the wood and brush in a pile and had soaked it with diesel fuel the previous day but were unable to ignite it. Haiden, standing atop the pile of brush, soaked the stack with eight gallons of gasoline the next day. The volatile mixture of diesel fuel and gasoline produced an exploding fireball that blew the teenager off his feet. Haiden suffered third-degree burns to his right arm and hand, neck and lower back and second-degree burns to his face. His brother was standing some 20 feet away and suffered less serious burns.

Then there was the wreck in which his car flipped seven times, leaving Haiden with a cervical sprain in his neck and a serious concussion. “God is watching over me, 100%,” said Haiden, noting he has butterflies prior to a race but is okay once he gets on the track. Planning for the Future Haiden said it would be awesome to compete as a NASCAR driver, but he’s not putting all his lug nuts in one hubcap. If he doesn’t race for a living, Haiden will join the family business, Supply Chain Management, an import-export company started by his father and uncle. In the meantime, Haiden will continue to race on dirt tracks and is scheduled to do a test run on an asphalt track. If the session goes well, he could compete in asphalt track races. Regardless of the surface, Haiden is right at home behind the wheel of a race car. “I couldn’t ask for anything more,” Haiden said. “I enjoy the adrenaline I get out of it. I just love it.” ■

LEADERSHIP & EXPERIENCE: Kelly Hoffner for Effingham County Tax Commissioner Vote for Experience and Leadership Kelly Hoffner is running for Effingham County Tax Commissioner (R) 2024. “I will bring experience and leadership skills along with a passion for customer service to the job. With the growth Effingham is experiencing, I am prepared to keep pace with the changes and new technologies to better focus on providing superior service to the citizens of this county,” she says, “and I would love to have your support to become the new Effingham County Tax Commissioner.”

Kelly with Andrew Blaske

Solid Experience Originally from Pennsylvania, Kelly visited her southern family every summer until she relocated to Georgia in 2011. Once her two children started school, she worked in the private security contract business where she administered thirty-five contracts across multiple states. From 2020 through 2023 she was employed at the Effingham County Tag Office, first as a Tax/Tag Agent, then as Motor Vehicle Supervisor, where she spent the majority of her tenure. As Motor Vehicle Supervisor, Kelly was responsible for resolving escalated customer service issues, as well as establishing documentation of the postal mail and the daily reconciliation of all monies received from both properties and motor vehicle departments, among other duties. “Having a leadership supervisory role at the Effingham County Tag Office gives me a unique perspective as to how the office works,” she says. “I connected with many residents and business owners and saw firsthand what a positive impact the office can have on our citizens.” New Ideas Kelly envisions a friendly and accessible office where the Tax Commissioner has an active presence in the day-to-day duties. She knows the challenges of implementing change and says, “I can’t promise these will all happen, but these are the issues I will prioritize.” • Ensure cross-training and utilize full staff coverage to reduce wait time. • Complete a full organization of files including updated storage. • Extend office hours after 5 PM as needed. • Expedite the process for senior citizens. • Review budget to better use current funding for: › Part time employment during busy season › Technology updates

Citizen Communication As Tax Commissioner Kelly would focus on educating the community as to the tax collectors’ responsibilities as well as establishing good communication with other ancillary offices, such as the county’s tax assessors. Reaching the greater community is also a priority she would address, especially as to providing up to date information that may otherwise go unnoticed. “We need to make important information immediately accessible to better serve our citizens,” she says. “For example, military veterans may have a lack of understanding regarding tax breaks they are entitled to, which could be addressed by informational outreach such as creating a Facebook page specifically for this department.” “Effingham county has been experiencing many changes,” Kelly says, “and I have the experience that is needed right now. As Effingham County Tax Commissioner my goal will be to ensure accessibility, efficiency and accountability to every member of our community.”

imball “Kim” Warnock Sr. had built his career in engineering but was ready to leave the city life behind. “I grew up in rural Montgomery County, but I was living and working in Atlanta,” says Kim. “In my effort to get away from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta, I moved to Rincon in 1974.” Kim had accepted a job as a corporate engineer, which introduced him to Effingham County. At the time, the county had approximately 15,000 people living in it and what is now Old Augusta Road was a dirt road. Kim had fulfilled his desire to live the rural life again. In 1980, Kim procured his first contract to maintain industrial railroad tracks in the Savannah area. Armed with borrowed tools and equipment, he founded Adams Warnock, derived from his middle and last name. It wasn’t long before he was able to hire his first employee and then several more after a few weeks. Within five years, Kim and his team were maintaining most of the industrial tracks in the area. Companies like Georgia-Pacific, Colonial Oil and International Paper all called upon Adams Warnock to work on their rail lines. “I never dreamed of getting into the railroad operation,” Kim says. “We’ve developed a pretty good group of industrial folks that depend on us.” Kim opened his first railyard location in Port Wentworth, a small but strategic location convenient to Jimmy Deloach Parkway, Highway 21 and the Georgia Ports Authority. In the early 1990s he expanded to a second location, becoming the first tenant in the newly-developed Effingham County Industrial Park in Rincon. By 1995, Kim began purchasing locomotives and offering services switching rail cars. “I chose a location in the center of the park because railyards don’t need a road frontage,” says Kim. “The first track we built here was to transport reinforced concrete pipes.” 24 February/March 2024 | www.EFFINGHAMMAGAZINE.com

As neighbors moved into the industrial park, Adams Warnock was uniquely suited to support them and the complexities of moving specialty products. Today, Adams Warnock locomotives move every transformer produced by the nearby Georgia Transformer, a testament to their skill. With quite a few miles of industrial railroad tracks in Effingham County and southeast Georgia, railroad maintenance is in high demand. However, it’s not an easy industry to navigate. “It’s very regulated, so not many people want to be involved with it. We have to comply with both Federal Railroad Administration regulations and Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations,” Kim says. “There’s a lot to keep up with and the regulations change frequently.” On the Leadership Track As his business grew, Kim built a name for himself in the railroad field but also in the greater Effingham community. In 1987, he was elected as chairman of the Effingham County Board of Commissioners, a position he held for two terms. During this time, the county partnered with the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority to acquire land and develop the industrial park where Adams Warnock currently sits. “I never considered myself a politician,” says Kim. “A group of local people asked me to run and thought I would be good for the commission.” While Kim has been off the county commission for nearly 30 years, he left behind a legacy that influences Effingham County’s growth to this day. He helped develop a master plan that addressed roads, schools, recreation and the management of industrial growth, guided by the philosophy, “you develop a community like you would like to see.” Today, he retains a leadership role as the Effingham County representative of the Coastal Area District Development

Authority (CADDA), a regional group that encourages industrial development and job creation for large and small entities. They process Small Business Administration loans and connect businesses with other loan programs to support their growth. “It’s a volunteer position many people don’t want to do,” Kim says. “Most people won’t take part because you had to give of your time, but I always managed to squeeze in time for it.” Onboarding the Next Generation Kim’s family has been a support system for the business. Kim’s daughter Melinda helps with office operations, his cousin Wade handles health and safety regulations and human resources and his son Sam leads a rail crew. Grandson Cody grew up around the railroad tracks of Effingham County and has followed in his family’s footsteps. “I started out shoveling and driving spikes. Later I decided that some office work would be better than working in the heat,” Cody says. “There was a need for an engineer and I figured I could fill it.” After graduating from Effingham County High School, Cody learned everything he could by working at the family business for a few years and then attended Georgia Southern University to study civil engineering. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 2020 and his master’s degree in 2023. At the same time, he gained experience in Civil 3D, the drafting software used to design rail lines and used those skills to take on his current role of design and business development. “Because of Cody’s skill sets, we’ve evolved into designing, building, operating and maintaining industrial rail yards. He has added to our capabilities,” Kim says. Including family members, Adams Warnock currently has 40-50 employees at any given time. Several employees have tenures of 20, 30 and even nearly 40 years. “I don’t depend on just family to run the business,” says Kim. “We have other key employees that are very much needed and very dedicated to what we do. John Conner is the general operations manager, and Marie Graham is the office manager. Both of them are Effingham County natives and have been an important part of Adams Warnock’s success.” Qualities for Success Much of Adams Warnock’s growth has been through word-ofmouth, which has contributed to their longevity. “The people we work closely with support us quite well,” says Kim. “We’ve always been really responsive to industry needs and that makes people want to call us back.” While Adams Warnock has maintained a loyal client base over the years, they are seeing increased demand for their services. Career opportunities are available for people willing to invest in their work. Kim isn’t shy about acknowledging the laborintensive nature of railroad maintenance, and he has a few qualities he looks for in prospective employees. “The job requires a sense of focus. They also have to be capable of learning and practice safety in their daily tasks,” Kim says. “Most of our employees also need to be qualified for Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) cards because we work in environments regulated by the Department of Homeland Security.” Full Steam Ahead Even with more than 40 years of work under his belt, Kim isn’t ready to retire anytime soon. “I’ve truly enjoyed everything I’ve done workwise,” Kim says. “I’m not going to be here forever, but I don’t have any plans to leave.” Adams Warnock has been enlisted to work on projects beyond the Coastal Empire, guided by the same principles that have contributed to their success locally, “If you do it and take care of it and do it satisfactorily, they’ll call you.” ■ www.EFFINGHAMMAGAZINE.com | February/March 2024 25

DARRYL ANDERSON: For the Love of Music Story by Katrice Williams | Photography by Leidy Lester “

I

want you to be satisfied with what I do. I want to make your event special.” Professional saxophonist Darryl Anderson does just that. If you are looking for a true diamond in the rough, look no further. The multitalented saxophonist has performed at an array of private events, showcasing his talents throughout Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. Darryl has afforded the community his talents for nearly nine years. He and his wife Ortavia decided to make Pooler their home following his retirement from the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT). Darryl performs at weddings, festivals, organizational galas, corporate banquets or political events, to name a few. “I do a variety of events, and I really enjoy it because making the different contacts opens up opportunities at other venues,” he says. New York Roots Darryl, a Bronx, New York native, is an accomplished instrumentalist. He realized his love for music early in life. At age five, he began playing the drums; in sixth grade, Darryl was introduced to the saxophone. Later, he participated in various bands. “I’ve always played music; I’ve always been in music. Some of my family on my mother’s side were recording artists,” he says. Further, Darryl grew up in a neighborhood where several recording artists also grew up. He was right across the street from Larry Blackman of the group Cameo, a popular 1970s American funk band; he also lived near R&B and soul vocalist Keith Sweat as well as soul singer Freddie Jackson. “I grew up with a lot of people who became famous musicians. I was around music all the time,” he says. Darryl has always loved and appreciated the gift of music. “Music was a gift. It was always in me. It was something I loved. My family had a band,” he adds. Indeed, Darryl’s family formed a band, Shelly Bell & the TNT’s, where he played the drums alongside his brothers Shelly and Donald. Some time later, Darryl joined another band that was started by family friends in his neighborhood; it was also a family band. Thirteen-year-old Darryl started out as the lead musician—the drummer. Darryl performed with the band for a couple of years under the name TNT Express; the group was eventually renamed The Bowden Affair. Vernelle Bowden was the other members’ mom and the band’s producer. She would later be credited with discovering the 1990’s female R&B vocal group Sisters with Voices (SWV). Darryl later joined Street Magic Band alongside a cousin and childhood friend. The group performed at many local venues. “We were really good,” he asserts. Opportunity Knocks, Darryl Answers As a result of the opportunity with Street Magic Band, Darryl crossed paths with R&B singer and recording artist Omar Chandler. Darryl soon turned his sights to writing songs.

gospel greats Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, Hezekiah Walker and James Fortune, along with gospel and jazz musician Ben Tankard and renowned vocalist Regina Belle. “Opportunities really opened up when I was able to open for those national gospel recording artists,” he reveals. Darryl also performed on the One Love Gospel Cruise—a five-day cruise out of Florida that brought thousands of cruisers together to enjoy an array of entertainment. Several award-winning entertainers and nationally acclaimed gospel artists performed aboard the cruise each year. “There were a lot of national recording artists on the ship. I could open for them or have my own place to play. After the first year I played, I wanted to come back. That was a great opportunity for me—to be around more gospel artists; it was a chance to interact with them,” Darryl says. He was given the opportunity to sell and promote Finally as part of the gospel cruise, allowing him the chance to hear his own music and see how others responded to it. “You get to feel what it’s like to listen to your own music and enjoy what you have presented,” he states. That CD was

Temple, which is under the leadership of Pastor Hazel Scott. “That’s when it all started for me here,” Darryl says. He also played the saxophone with the church band at Jonesville Baptist Church, where his dad, the late Shelly Anderson, Jr., served as a deacon. Darryl was pleased to make Living Hope Community Fellowship his church home, where Joyce C. Hall is pastor. Darryl’s favorite genres are gospel and jazz; he gained a sincere regard for jazz early in life. It is not surprising that most of what he performs stems from those genres; he also plays mild, old-school R&B. “I grew up listening to jazz; my family were huge jazz fans,” he says. It was long important to Darryl that he did not limit his musical scope. He sought to appeal to a variety of audiences while never compromising his Christian values. “I wanted to play more than one genre of music but still play music I’m comfortable with so that I’m not compromising my faith. I do mostly private events,” he states. Darryl does not accept requests to perform at clubs, bars or any similar venues. He has had the pleasure of performing at a myriad of events, which include the likes of: Diner en Blanc, NAACP Freedom Fund Now a musician and songwriter, Darryl and Gullah Geechee events. wrote “A Better Day,” a song featured on He appreciates all the exposure he has Chandler’s album, which was released by been privileged to attain; many of his MCA Records. SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF EFFINGHAM COUNTY Sign Up for Volunteer Opportunities or Donate to Support Their Mission Helping your neighbor is a great act of love. By getting involved with Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County, you’re putting love into action. Construction is underway on a new home in Guyton, just down the street from the one that was completed last year. The foundation has been poured, the walls have gone vertical, and the house has been progressing ever since. Volunteers are welcome to come to the build site every Saturday from 8am-3pm to help with each step of the construction process. “We welcome anyone who wants to get involved in the community. You don’t need any specific construction experience,” says Jimmy Rutland, President/CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County. “It takes a lot of hands to build a home, and what better way to love your neighbor than to help them build a better future?” The process for families accepted to purchase a Habitat home can take up to two years or longer from the initial application to move-in day. More volunteers means that a local family can move out of their current living conditions sooner than

expected and build memories in a home to call their own.

Group Volunteer Opportunities Enterprise Mobility organized a group of volunteers to come to work on the home in January, and they were able to help raise the walls. Enterprise has been a supporter of SCAN TO VOLUNTEER bit.ly/3RCDWwG Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County for the past several years, thanks to a partnership forged by board member Lake Standridge. Church groups, civic organizations and businesses are welcome to schedule specific days to come out and work on the house or volunteer in the ReStore. constructing homes. Revenue generated by the ReStore covers overhead expenses, which means every donation goes straight into construction projects unless designated otherwise. Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County is also a great beneficiary for a church or community fundraiser. Whether you’re downsizing, cleaning out your house or redecorating, your furniture, appliances and surplus construction supplies in good condition can find a new home at the ReStore. Your donations will provide families in the community with an affordable option to furnish their homes. Jeremy Thomas Herren Shares a Powerful Musical Message

E

ffingham resident Jeremy Thomas Herren has a powerful message that he is sharing with the world through his musical talent. As is a contemporary Christian singer/ songwriter he combines his love of music with the love of God, creating moving songs of spiritual belief. He has recently released “Stand in Faith” an LP of his own personal, yet very identifiable songs of faith.

children, Jason, 6, and Lydia, 4. Jeremy became a financial advisor and when he was offered a job in Savannah the family relocated to Effingham County. That is also when he stopped writing music. After relocating, the family started attending Centerpoint Community Church. “We went to church but I didn't take it seriously. “Stand in Faith” Music and lyrics by Jeremy Thomas The world has gone crazy Everything is upside down Evil’s celebrated And good is evil now They’re coming for the Bible Culture wants to cancel Christ They don’t accept the Gospel Because truth hurts more than lies But I won’t compromise I’ve been saved by the sinless blood of Jesus…. Stand up and praise His name Come and be saved by the sinless blood of Jesus.

New Recordings The new music was recorded at Little Bird, Big Sound production studio in Pooler. The LP is entitled “Stand in Faith” and it includes a variety of Jeremy’s contemporary Christian songs. “My song ‘The Answer’ is personal to my walk,” says Jeremy. “I thought I knew everything, but things changed, especially when we had our beautiful children. I had a rough patch where I thought I could just walk the world alone. So, this song is very meaningful to me, with all the emotions that come along with that.” “I write in the moment,” he says. “My songs ‘The Answer’ and ‘Only You’ are more worship songs.” However, the most popular song on YouTube and Spotify is the title track ‘Stand in Faith,’ which is a completely different song, in both concept and style. He says the message of the song is “don’t let what’s happening in the world shake your faith.” Family Support Jeremy says his wife Kara “has heard years of me playing and she has always been there, always supporting my music. And my wife is very honest, she will straight up tell me with great feedback!” Their children love hearing him play, he says, “My daughter likes to sing with me, but my son only sings in the shower! My daughter knows all the songs, and my son likes the rock and roll style best.” The family is very busy with a jampacked schedule. Jeremy is a successful

Financial Advisor and has been with Edward Jones for ten years. In addition to demanding jobs, he says, “At church I am in the worship band, and my wife does work with the church youth. Our son plays basketball, and our daughter is in competitive dance.” Traveling is a favorite family activity. “My company affords me the opportunity to earn trips, in fact we went to Maui last July and we are going to Italy in March. Traveling with two small kids can be exhausting but it’s also very rewarding.” Locally they enjoy beach days, visiting wildlife preserves and spending time together outdoors. Upcoming Plans By using production software, Jeremy has been able to record new music by doing studio work at his house. “Not having a label means I can write, record and release what I want so it’s fun in that respect,” says Jeremy. (Although that may change down the road as a major Christian music label has reached out and complimented him on “Stand in Faith.”) He plans on releasing new songs in the next few months and looks forward to more live shows. And he can be found every Sunday performing with the worship band at Centerpoint Community Church, playing the kind of music that matters to him—lifting his voice and using his God given talent to praise and honor the one who matters most. ■
