The write stuff

Introducing author, Jenny King

Halcyon Greens, (QLD)

With five books under her belt and more words in the works, you would never know that Jenny King lived a lifetime before finally putting pen to paper.

While the urge to write was always with her, Jenny only got the chance to develop her creative voice and her craft recently.

Beginning her career in the legal sector in Melbourne, she worked as a secretary for many years before marrying and starting a family. Life then swiftly transitioned into a new stage as the young family moved to-and-fro between New South Wales and Queensland, supporting her husband’s work as a civil engineer.

A bucket list goal of Jenny’s, her yearning to write never dissipated, with her first story lying in wait in her mind for years. When she finally found the time to concentrate on writing, Jenny first considered enrolling in a creative writing course to assist her process, but in the end she decided to simply just get started. With the book set during the First and Second World Wars, she was determined to infuse her work with a high level of historical accuracy, so the first step in her process was exhaustive research.

After countless hours of deep-diving, Jenny was finally cajoled into actually starting to write by her husband, and to her pleasant surprise, she found that she had not one, but three books in her mind, and so her trilogy: House of Glass, House of Shattered Glass, and One Life Lost, was brought to life.

Post-trilogy, Jenny collaborated with her sister (an illustrator) on two children’s books and the duo enjoyed working together so much that they’re currently creating a third!

So where can her work be found? While she loves to write, Jenny has no intention of being a best-seller, so her books have to be borrowed rather than bought. In her own words, “I write for me and I am happy for anyone to read my books, but not to buy…the reward is a story I have brought to life.”
