Viva ‘Waters’, a decade on!

A big celebration was in order at Hope Island when 160 home owners came together for a very special occasion, Halcyon Waters tenth anniversary!

The Recreation Club was transformed into a Las Vegas Casino for the evening and home owners mingled and hit the gaming tables armed with their mock ‘chips’.

Many turned up in fancy dress including the ‘King and Queen’ of hearts to try their hand at Roulette, Blackjack and Texas Hold’em Poker while a roaming magician and showgirls added to the party atmosphere. Original ‘10-year’ home owners

Last chance to secure one of Australia’s Best

Following up on being named ‘Queensland’s Best’ at the 2016 State Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Awards for Excellence, Vision by Halcyon has taken it one step further after being recognised as one of Australia’s Best over 50’s communities.

Vision by Halcyon achieved runner-up status against some quality competition including; Mike Moran Vaucluse (NSW), Oakfield Lodge (SA) and Braemar Cooinda Melville (WA).

highest accolade awarded and it was an honour for Halcyon to be nominated, representing Queensland once again on the national stage, having previously won the award in 2009 and 2014.

Halcyon’s steadfast ‘no exit fee’ model, coupled with a buoyant residential property market has enabled home owners to cash in on their capital gains after selling.

In the first quarter of 2017 alone, home owners across six communities received an average capital gain of 12.5%.

Furthermore, in just over a decade, Halcyon home owners who sold have reaped the rewards of $18.5 million in capital gains!

It’s also about location, with Halcyon communities situated in future growth areas like Pimpama and Bli Bli, which was recently rated the number one Queensland property hotspot in Money Magazine. Halcyon Joint Managing Director, Dr Bevan Geissmann said the no exit fee policy appealed to home owners looking towards the future.

“Sometimes, life changes unexpectedly and for seniors in over 50’s communities, this can mean having to sell,” said Dr Geissmann. “What makes us different is our home owners have the security of knowing they can sell anytime and retain any capital gain, which gives them confidence in the solidity of their investment at Halcyon.”

For many golfers it’s the ultimate goal, something that is often never achieved in a lifetime of playing the game. The mythical hole-in-one, a rare bird indeed! So it was wild celebrations all ‘round’ when home owner Ed Badger dropped one in on the 170 metre par 3, 17th hole at the Gainsborough Greens Golf Course. Ed was part of the Halcyon Hot Shots friendly with players from Halcyon Waters and Vision by Halcyon getting together to enjoy a great day out on the greens.

Just to put things into perspective… the chance of an average golfer making a hole in one is approximately 12,500 to 1. Not bad when you consider the odds of a championship tour professional making the same shot is listed at 2,500 to 1.

Construction of the first homes and the new Golf Clubhouse at Halcyon’s exciting new community has commenced. The prestigious gated community will enjoy frontage to an existing 18-hole golf course in the heart of Mirvac’s established Gainsborough Greens community.

The unique golf-inspired resort community will comprise five residential precincts surrounded by natural wetlands, conservation zones, parklands, wildlife and the Gainsborough Greens Golf Course.

Sold on the location and superior facilities, former banker Lloyd Whitley and wife Di are amongst the first to lock in on their new, ‘forever home’ at Halcyon Greens. Arundel residents for 25 years, the Whitley’s had been searching for a community that was closer to family and friends and Halcyon Greens ticked all the boxes.

The excited couple are looking forward to the future with construction on their new home set to begin in May and due for completion around Christmas. Both Lloyd and Di are eager to experience the social side of living within a community. “We’ve already met numerous couples, including our soon-to-be neighbours and have made plans to start a ukulele club,” said Di.

Silver, gold and platinum for Halcyon home owners As part of our commitment to remaining at the forefront of over 50’s living and innovation for our home owners, Halcyon is building homes that achieve Silver certification by Livable Housing Australia (LHA). Silver certification includes initiatives such as step free access, minimum one metre wide hallways and generous sized bathrooms. It’s about building homes that promote aging in place and allow for easy access and manoeuvrability.

Halcyon’s architects and design team are also working on plans to construct two new homes of Gold and Platinum level so prospective purchasers can view the choices available. LHA is a partnership between community and consumer groups, government and industry that champions the mainstream adoption of livable housing design principles in all new homes built in Australia.

Record run of sales continues Strong demand from Brisbane’s northern suburbs, the Sunshine Coast and interstate has seen a new wave of over 50’s staking their claim at Halcyon Glades in Caboolture North.

Project Director Marie Cone said that the New Year kicked off with a bang, with an increase in enquiry and sales to match. “The surge in activity has accounted for almost eight million dollars in sales in the space of just eight weeks,” said Marie.

“Purchasers are responding to what they perceive as excellent value for money with the high quality finish of homes, exceptional 5-Star facilities on offer and the security and peace of mind that comes with living in a gated, master-planned community.”

‘Angels’ rule the streets

15 members and counting, the Halcyon Glades all gal ‘Trikie’ gang are a regular sight, zooming around the streets of the community on their shiny three wheelers.

But before anybody starts notifying the authorities, rest assured the ‘Halcyon Angels’ are all about pedal power! From dawn to dusk, the Angels can often be seen, transporting all manner of items from pets to tennis gear, even organic veggies from the garden. As for the Angels, they say it’s a great way to stay healthy and navigate their way around the community.

Over the past 12 years more than 30,000 people have attended a Halcyon community Open Day where the emphasis is on fun times. First time visitors get a real feel for the spirit of the community and the people who live there.

The March Open Day at Halcyon Glades was no different with stilt walkers, the Mad Hatter, Alice and the March Hare all there. Home owners welcomed another 300 people inside the gates for a tea party, a mix of live music, delicious food and hospitable, friendly home owners made the newcomers feel at home.

5-Star fitness and fun coming soon Excitement is mounting for home owners with construction two months ahead of schedule on the community’s exclusive Lifestyle and Recreational Precinct with its centrepiece Recreation Club. The dazzling array of facilities is already taking shape with the Bowling Green completed and the one-of-a-kind rooftop Tennis Court and the Health and Wellness Centre nearing completion.

Hitting the road to new adventures... that’s Freedom John Thompson always wanted a Harley Davidson, but it wasn’t until he decided upon some life-altering decisions and made the move to Halcyon Glades that he realised a life long dream.

Now settling in to his new Halcyon home in Caboolture, John, a motorcyclist and enthusiast since he was 17, purchased his dream bike to complement a newfound free and easy lifestyle.

“I’ve never owned a Harley before and have always wanted one, so this was the perfect time to do something about it,” said John.

“I have this new lifestyle with extra time on my hands so I thought, go ahead spoil yourself, you deserve it.”

What followed was a four-month search before finally finding his treasured 1700cc Harley Davidson Fat Boy Lo, a magnificently engineered bike built for cruising.

The story begins a few months before when John aged 63, a longterm Caltex employee, made his lifealtering decision!

First and foremost he would officially retire from the workforce. Then, he would sell his home of 24 years in Ormiston to be closer to his

daughter and family who recently moved from Sydney.

Initially, John considered purchasing a home in a suburb near his daughters before taking a look at a few over 50’s communities, despite his negative preconception of them being traditional ‘retirement villages’.

“I looked at all of them and found Halcyon to be the best, at the top end of the market in terms of quality homes, facilities and offering you a lot more for your money. It changed my mind about community living completely and fit the bill for me perfectly, allowing me the freedom to lock up and hit the road,” said John.

So, while many of his new neighbours take their RV’s out of the community storage facility to lock and go travelling, John simply packs his tent and rolls out to adventure on two wheels and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Now I live here at Caboolture, I’m at the gateway to some of the best rides in the State. I also ride over to Bribie regularly for a swim, up to Maleny for lunch and down to Brisbane to meet with friends, so the location is absolutely perfect for me.”

Even before he lived in a home made of Hebel, home owner Ian Laurie had come across the eco-friendly product.

But rather than construction, it was in the pursuit of a more creative outlet.

As it turned out, a friend gave him a piece of Hebel and suggested he carve something out of it for relaxation.

Then they could show their ‘works’ to each other when completed.
