ArtSpaceSF

We are a group of artists that opened a printmaking studio in 1990 to work closely with and create original limited editions of influential Latin American artists such as Leonora Carrington, Gabriel Figueroa, Jose Luis Cuevas, and Rafael Coronel.

Over several years we collaborated regularly and intimately with each to create true representations of their work and artistic intent. Leonora Carrington, for instance, invited us to her studio and we were privileged to witness her work process first hand.

We also worked with well-known Mexican icons, such as Gabriel Figueroa, the famous and prolific filmmaker and cinematographer. As young artists, we learned so much about his methods and working process; it was a priceless experience and one we wish to share with others.

Now, we are introducing ArtSpace SF, an online gallery featuring distinctive Latin American artists, some of whom we continue to have personal and professional relationships with.

These culturally significant artists have exhibited at major institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the De Young Museum, the Paul Getty Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Centre Pompidou.

Rafael Coronel

Rafael Coronel was born in Zacatecas, Mexico (1931- 2019).

He first studied at the National Institute of Fine Arts and then at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking (“La Esmeralda”). His work was distinguished among the artwork of young painters of his generation.

His first individual exhibition was in 1956 at the Arte Mexicano Gallery, one of the most important venues in Mexico. By 1959, the National Institute of Fine Arts presented many of his works at the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City. He traveled and exhibited extensively throughout Europe and the United States.

Coronel presented his artwork in solo exhibitions in important galleries and museums such as the Biennial of San Pablo, Brazil, the Sforzesco Castello in Milan, the Royal Museum of Art in Brussels, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City.

The pieces presented here are original prints, signed and numbered by the artist.
