HAiLEYBURY’S production of
A play by RiCK ELICE
Based on the Novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson
music by WAYNE BARKER
Originally produced on Broadway by Nancy Nagel Gibbs, Greg Schaffert, Eva Price, Tom Smedes, and Disney Theatrical Productions | Licensed exclusively by Music Theatre International (Australasia).
DIRECTOR’S NOTES If Peter and the Starcatcher is a story about friendship, adventure, imagination and belonging, then the making of this production has been every bit as magical as the story itself.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this production is that these puppets have been constructed from recycled and sustainable materials, demonstrating how imagination and innovation can transform everyday objects into theatrical magic. The result is a collection of creatures that are not only visually striking, but also celebrate creativity, environmental responsibility and collaborative artistry.
This production represents the collaboration of many departments and the creativity of an extraordinary community of young theatre-makers. Throughout this rehearsal process, students have worked across disciplines, learning that every role is vital in bringing a story to life. From performers and musicians to designers, technicians and crew, everyone has a part to play in a Haileybury production.
This year, we are especially proud to celebrate the creativity of our crew. Our opening number features both cast and backstage team. We recognise the collective effort required to bring a production of this scale to life. Together they embody what makes theatre so special: a community of artists working towards a shared vision.
We have also been privileged to benefit from the outstanding mentorship of our Artistin-Residence, William Bobbie Stewart, whose expertise in visual storytelling and puppetry has been instrumental in shaping this production. Working closely with students throughout the creative process, William guided them in the design, engineering and animation of a range of puppets and theatrical creatures.
Filled with adventure, humour, singing, dancing, pirates, mermaids and a touch of theatrical magic, Peter and the Starcatcher invites audiences to embrace the power of imagination. We hope you enjoy this joyful celebration of storytelling and leave inspired by what can happen when a creative community comes together to dream, create and belong.
