The following information is published on the Haileybury website in compliance with Haileybury’s obligations under national funding legislation.

Haileybury is a corporation limited by guarantee and operates, as a not-for-profit organisation, the following schools: Haileybury College (for boys) Reg No 1191; Haileybury Girls College, Reg No 2009, and an Early Learning Centre.

As both Haileybury College and Haileybury Girls College run in parallel, sharing the same facilities and staff, this Statutory Report is common to both.

Haileybury is one of the leading independent schools in the Asia-Pacific region with campuses in Keysborough, Brighton, Berwick, Melbourne (City) and schools in Darwin and Tianjin (China). The School is acclaimed for its outstanding academic achievements, small class sizes, a broad range of co-curricular activities and state-of-the-art facilities.

Learning is based on the different learning styles of students, and on their gender, age, interests and potential.

Haileybury With 131 years of history, Haileybury has changed dramatically and is now one of the leading independent schools in Australia. In 2022, The Educator Magazine awarded Haileybury with Primary School of the Year Non-Government and Boarding School of the Year for Haileybury Rendall School.

Our Vision

The Parallel Education Model at Haileybury allows boys and girls to learn together in their younger years, and then separately as they move into middle and senior years. Haileybury also has a strong sense of community, with links across activities that bring the School together throughout the year.

The

student body It’s not just Haileybury’s programs, teachers and facilities that draw praise—it’s our students.

Haileybury has a diverse student body from across Melbourne and overseas.

Student numbers On Census Day, 5 August 2022, Haileybury had an enrolment of 4,432 students (Prep - Year 12), of whom 2,467 were boys, 1,964 were girls and one non-binary. This enrolment included 20 overseas students and 12 Indigenous students. Haileybury also had Early Learning Centre enrolments of 326 for a total enrolment of 4,758.

Student attendance and retention Attendance Attendance in Years 9–12 is taken each period and in Prep - Year 8 it is taken twice a day (start and end). These are electronically recorded. Parents of students who are to be absent are asked to record their child’s absence via the School’s app (myHaileybury) prior to 9.30 am on the day of absence.

Any discrepancies are followed up by Haileybury staff. In 2022, the Attendance Rate was 91.7%.

Retention 86.6% of students in Year 12 had been in the School since at least Year 9.

Student outcomes Haileybury prides itself on its student outcomes, in particular the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN).

In 2022, Haileybury students achieved an exceptional set of results, with seven students obtaining the highest possible Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 99.95. Some 59.9% of all Haileybury ATAR results were in the top 10% in the country, with an ATAR of 90 and above.

CEO | Principal’s Message to the Haileybury Community We knew that our brilliant Haileybury teaching staff had risen to the challenges thrown at us by COVID-19. We knew that our determined and resilient Haileybury students, with the support of families and friends, had also risen to the challenge. Now the evidence for this is perfectly clear: the Class of 2022 have produced the finest VCE results in the 30-year history of the VCE at Haileybury.

Seven Haileybury students achieved the highest possible Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking (ATAR) of 99.95. This is an incredible achievement given that only a little over 30 students will be awarded an ATAR of 99.95 out of the 50,000 VCE students who sat the VCE in 2022.

A quite remarkable 60% of all students in the Class of 2022 achieved an ATAR of 90 or above, placing them in the top 10% in Australia. This is well up on the previous Haileybury record of 55%. Haileybury is an open-entry school and the achievement of 97% of all students in the top 40% in Australia is an excellent reflection of our commitment to every student. Our School motto that ‘Every student matters every day’ is being lived and is reflected in students having the opportunity and the support to reach their potential.

Haileybury’s 2022 graduating cohort deserve great credit for their fortitude and resilience and for working so collaboratively with each other and with their teachers.

I pay tribute to all the staff for this exceptional performance.

It is a great reflection of their professionalism, dedication and care, all of which has been on display these last three years.

Our teachers are committed to evidence-based strategies that work — the evidence of this is clear in the results.

I also acknowledge the support of all families. Great academic results are the product of a strong partnership between the students, parents and guardians, and the School and its staff.

The result of this hard work is there for all to see — absolutely brilliant individual student performances which flow into an extraordinary school performance.

The Haileybury school year closes on an excellent note. We celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2022 and we look forward to 2023 with great optimism.

In 2022, all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 undertook the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy testing. The results were outstanding and continued to show improvement from past results. The results reaffirm that Haileybury is one of Australia’s leading schools in Literacy and Numeracy.

The graphs below show the percentages of students at each year level who are achieving at the highest band level possible.

Data published on the My School website indicates that, at all year levels, Haileybury is performing well above similar schools in most areas. Haileybury continues to work towards ensuring all students achieve at their highest possible level.

The vast majority of Haileybury graduates chose to go on to further education, whether that be at university, TAFE or an apprenticeship.

In 2022, 98.86% of all female students and 98.43% of all male students who applied for tertiary courses, received at least one offer. 11 students received offers for the highly prestigious Monash University Medicine degree, and the most popular universities continued to be Monash University and The University of Melbourne.
