William Booth established the Salvation Army Movement in London, England, in 1865. He toured the city's streets to share Christ's teachings with the underprivileged, hungry, homeless, and penniless. His reputation as a spiritual authority grew throughout London, and he attracted devotees who were committed to defending men's and women's souls. The ''salvationists" philosophy and ideas extended to numerous nations worldwide due to patterning itself after a paramilitary command structure

The site falls within the Cathays Ward in Cardiff. The building itself falls just outside the Crwys Road/Woodville Road District Centre.
