Favn – a mountain village like no other

In the heart of Hafjell – by the gondola top-station, Mosetertoppen – is where you will find the new Favn Hafjell. Architect Reiulf Ramstad has designed an urban mountain village, inspired by Nordic building traditions.

Leave the car – everything is within walking A short bus ride from the railway station in Lillehammer, and then a spectacular last leg with the gondola to the top, and you have reached Favn Hafjell. If you bring a car, each living unit has its own parking space. And the best thing is that when you are there, you have everything you need in the immediate vicinity; ski and bicycle rental, restaurants, cafés, grocery store, and activities for every generation. Leave the car – either at home or in your designated space.

At Favn, you are in the heart of the mountain and within easy reach of activities for the whole family, both summer and winter. In winter, the pistes are right on your doorstep – with family-friendly slopes and magic carpet lifts for the very young. In summer, you have direct access to Hafjell’s new pump track and downhill biking.

A view only a mountain can offer The holiday apartments, most of which are west-facing, are in an elevated and airy location at 800-835 m above sea level.

Sit back and enjoy the panorama of Synnfjell and the Spåtind summit to the south and Gausdal Vestfjell to the west (the new Langsua National Park). There are also spectacular views of Jotunheimen to the west/north, and Skeikampen and Prestkampen to the north. The word “favn” means embrace in Norwegian, and Favn Hafjell will wrap its arms around every mountain lover – all year round. It is a place to relax and slow down or get active – young and old, alone or together, with or without a car. Life is fun at Favn in Hafjell.

Wonderful nature experiences right on the doorstep Hafjell is renowned for its wide range of activities, with high-quality alpine runs and endless cross-country ski trails into the mountains. During the summer season, the area offers an abundance of hiking and cycling routes and spectacular nature adventures. In the local community, there are cultural events and the opportunity to enjoy delicious local food.

Facilities Favn Hafjell mountain village Facilities such as restaurant, café, grocery store, ski rental, sports store, ski lockers, activity room for children etc. form an integral part of the project.

Restauranthuset Restauranthuset (Restaurant House) is an architecturally striking building with a restaurant over two floors, offering plenty of seating. This unique meeting point – in the daytime as well as in the evenings – is the ideal spot for a tasty lunch in the company of good friends, some après-ski after a day on the slopes, or a good dinner with the family in the evening.

Café/grocery store Next to the restaurant building there will be a café where you can enjoy a coffee or hot chocolate and a treat – or pick up a freshly baked bread for breakfast. In the grocery store you will find all the supplies you need for your stay. A small and friendly place that will be a popular addition to the Mosetertoppen area.

Apartments The apartment complex comprises 27 holiday apartments (in phase 1) over four floors, accessible by elevator.

Apartments are on average 62-88 sq m, and have 2 to 5 bedrooms. One of the signature features of the complex is the characteristic window design that offers spectacular views and creates stunning light and a unique sense of space. Several of the apartments will have a balcony at which to enjoy those beautiful days, and others will have “sit-in” windows with wide ledge where you can sit comfortably

Surroundings Winter Children’s areas Hafjell is renowned for its children’s areas, parks and activities for the very young, and has three KIDS family areas as well as three terrain parks. The resort is a family favourite, and with good reason.

Mosetertoppen offers a multitude of fun activities, ranging from a children’s slope with its own carpet lift to diamond hunts with Isa – our mascot – for the very young, to boxes and rails in the Backyard park for the older children. In addition, there are exciting events for at Mosetertoppen several days a week – such as junior ski patrol, family safari and face painting – and also ski movie race challenges at our super-cool run with timing system.

Pistes At Mosetertoppen, everything is within easy reach. You are in the heart of the alpine resort and its many slopes. There is also the option to continue to Hafjelltoppen at 1056 m above sea level in our 8-seater chairlift, or to go down to the Olympic runs and family areas at the bottom. The ski resort enjoys plenty of sunshine and offers excellent snow conditions from mid-November to mid-April.

Hafjell has some 50 km of alpine runs, and is currently Norway’s third largest ski resort – and is still growing! All apartments have their own private parking space.

Cross-country skiing from door to door Hafjell and Øyerfjellet offers excellent cross-country skiing opportunities, including a floodlit trail right on your doorstep as well as 300 km of tracks groomed for classic and freestyle. The Øyerfjellet area as a whole has some 600 km of trails, and whichever route you chose you will be surrounded by wild and beautiful nature.

Skavlen Skavlen Restaurant enjoys a stunning location outermost on Mosetertoppen. It is owned and run by locals and is founded on a love of good food. Its basic, but excellent, menu comprises home-cooked dishes made from quality ingredients and, not to forget, freshly made cinnamon buns drizzled in warm icing. The views from the terrace on a clear and sunny day is unbeatable, and so is the atmosphere as families gather for their Easter holidays.

Sætra Not far from Skavlen Restaurant is a small, architect-designed building called Sætra – the perfect spot to pick up some drinks and snacks for the lift.

In summer, it becomes Playa del Sætra with hammocks and “aloha” spirit.

There are several BBQ huts on the slopes should you wish to prepare food outdoors and enjoy the sunshine surrounded by forest and snow.

Summer

During the green season, the alpine centre is definitely not asleep! There is plenty to do, and the slopes are teeming with life – and so are the peaks.

Hafjell Bike Park offers Norway’s best lift-assisted downhill biking. The idea is to use the ski lifts to get to the top, and then zoom down the hills like you do when skiing or snowboarding in winter. Our 18 purpose-built tracks twist and turn down through the forests surrounding the alpine runs, and feature fun elements for suitable for all skill levels. The tracks have a level of difficulty ranging from green to black, where green is the easiest and black is for the more experienced cyclists.

For the young – or the young at heart – a completely new pump track was added at Mosetertoppen in 2020.

This big asphalt track is open to everyone, and is the area’s centrepiece. Any bicycle can be used, and there are also free bikes for the very young to borrow. The restaurants, Skavlen and Sætra, do not close their doors even though the snow has melted, and stay open all through summer and autumn. Øyerfjellet is also abound with hiking opportunities and fishing lakes. The muchloved Nevelfjell is only a stone’s throw away, and is a popular choice among locals as well as visitors. Many of the routes and destinations available in winter are also easily accessible in summer. Among the excellent fishing lakes are Reinsvatn not far from Pellestova, and Ilsetra. For a guaranteed catch, however, bring a tent and visit Åsta.

It should also be mentioned that many of the mountain farms are open during summer, and offer visitors and travellers a chance to meet the animals and enjoy some waffles and a coffee – popular with the children and a welcoming break for the adults.

Hunderfossen Familiepark

Øyer and Lillehammer Øyer town centre is a great place to pick up supplies. Its grocery stores are open throughout the week, also on Sundays, and by Kiwi you will find both an off-licence (Vinmonopolet) and a sports outlet. By Spar, a bit further south, there is a deli counter, a pharmacy, and an Italian restaurant.

Hafjell Hotel is also close by, with its popular neighbours Lilleputthammer family park and Lekeland indoor play centre. Cross river Lågen by Cirkle K, and you reach the renowned Hunderfossen Family Park, the Children’s Farm, the Norwegian Road Museum, and the Olympic bobsleigh and luge track. As you can see, Hafjell and Øyer offer plenty of activities for the whole family.

A 15-minute drive south is Lillehammer town centre – ideal for an urban day out with a visit to the art museum or cinema. Lillehammer is home to both Maihaugen open-air museum and the Olympic Museum, and has a shopping street as well as a large shopping centre. It also has fitness centres (SATS and Spenst), and offer other activities such as Escape Room and paintball.

Tempted to try a different alpine centre? Kvitfjell, another Aplinco resort, is a mere 40-minute drive from Hafjell. With three mountain sides covered in pistes, it has a lot to offer the experienced skier as well as novices and families. Furthermore, Kvitfjell is renowned for its exquisite culinary experiences on the slopes! Well worth a visit – or several. The same lift pass can be used for both Hafjell and Kvitfjell.

In summer, the sun shines on the resort from morning till it sets in the west-northwest.

The gondola carries you the 586-m elevation from the valley up to Mosetertoppen.

Downhill bikes are available for rent at Hafjell Bikepark. The mountain, trails and downhill biking fun is just around the corner.

Favn Hafjell offers direct ski-in/ski-out to the alpine centre, located by the gondola top-station.

The area is situated at 800-835 m above sea level, and the snow season usually lasts from early November to April/May.
