THE POETRY OF COLORS

«I belong to all civilizations, all races, all arts and all times» You can search till your eyes are weary, but you will not find a brighter definition than that which the esteemed artist, Mounirah Mosly, uses to describe herself. This is because, for a definite artist, one civilization is not sufficient to fulfill their psychological and creative horizon. An artist’s constant thirst for the values of beauty is planted in all civilizations; A real artist is inspired from the lights, shadows and colors of all these civilizations.

The artist, Mounirah, does not leave you to foretell the meaning of the painting in its artistic realm, but rather forces you to stand in awe against the freshness of its representation: The artwork is not limited to a frame, dimensions, brush strokes, and colors, but is a universe where Mounirah finds herself dictating colors, shapes, tactics and limits, enriches it with places and elements, and lines it with feelings.

Mounirah’s subconscious did not automatically drive her through the field of creativity, but rather the fact that the artist constantly maintained it, nurtured it and stimulated it.

Mosly considered Yahya bin Mahmoud Al Wasity, a thirteenth century artist, her beacon in the creative path, because his works did not have traces in previous works of art -a signal of Mounirah’s commitment to her art.

In Mounirah’s poetic reflections, we find a flaming passion for color that is even more evident in her words than in her paintings:

«The sound of color, these days, walks, wearing the shirt of the masses and I follow» Go where you will, color, for there is an artist named Mounirah who will follow you endlessly, and making a shirt, not for the masses, but for herself.

I am not qualified to determine the school of art that Mounirah Mosly belongs to, but what is worth mentioning, is that the artistic expression which has overflowed in mankind since the the stone age, is nothing but fragments of the human soul that expresses itself progressively in every era.

Accordingly, schools of art and poetry emerged, each school carving its path according to its own sense of objectivity and acquired knowledge.

The difference between us and the west from which we have burrowed the names of these schools, is that these schools grow in one field and spread into other fields, a proof of a simultaneously vertical and horizontal growth culture.

In our culture, on the other hand, these schools did not form so that each stream which has its own crowd of poets or artists.

A single artist, in a single poem, can move from surrealism, to realism, to impressionism, in a single stanza without feeling the need to comply to one school of art alone.

«In color there are senses that rectify whims through which senses philosophize» The color is an active artist, a critic who disciplines the whims of the senses, and not a quiet element that surrenders to the wishes of its master.

«Your procession passes before me now my lord, and you are in it heightening the pain of color» What are these processions, and who is this master? And what are these pain struck colors? For the universe to groan, it’s groaning becomes a poem who is the poet herself.

«Color suddenly comes to you and so the space is absence» This is how, with its pride, color occupies all the horizons.

She is so full of color that there is no room for the void that we call space...

‫الـمـقـدمـة‬ ‫يتشرف حافظ غاليري بإقامة معرضآ فرديآ للفنانة السعودية منيرة‬ ‫موصلي ‪١٩٥٤‬م مكة المكرمة‪ ،‬يأتي المعرض ضمن مسيرتها الفنية الحافلة‬ ‫بالعطاء المتفرد والمتجدد في عالم الفن‪.‬‬ ‫تعتبر موصلي من رواد الفن التشكيلي في السعودية‪ ،‬إذ سجلت عام‬ ‫‪١٩٦٨‬م مع مواطنتها الفنانة صفية بن زقر إقامة أول معرض نسائى‬ ‫تشكيلي في مدرسة دار التربية الحديثة بمدينة جدة فيما أقامت معرضآ‬ ‫فرديآ في عام ‪١٩٧٢‬م على صالة الشمس بمدينة بجدة‪ ،‬وفي عام ‪١٩٧٣‬م‬ ‫أقامت أول معرض لفنانة سعودية في بهو أمانة مدينة الرياض‪.‬‬

‫تعتبر موصلي واحدة من‬ ‫المبدعات القالئل التي‬ ‫كشفت موهبتها بالغة‬ ‫طقوسها الجمالية عندما‬ ‫إنحازت معطياتها المبكرة‬ ‫إلى محاكاة الحضارات‬ ‫التاريخية الممتدة في‬ ‫الجزيرة العربية‬ ‫استلهمت من مقامات الواسطي أول إشارات خصوصية منجزاتها الجمالية‬ ‫المتفردة‪ ،‬فيما ساهم تعليمها المبكر للفن في اتساع خبراتها وتعدد‬ ‫إهتماماتها البصرية التي تتصل بالموروث والحضارات واألدب الشعر وتمتد‬ ‫إلى مواقفها اإلنسانية من مآسي الحروب خاصة التي تركت اثارآ على‬ ‫األطفال األبرياء في غير مكان‪ ،‬وهي بذلك تؤكد على انسانيتها التي تتصل‬ ‫بوعيها اإلنساني والثقافي‪.‬‬ ‫إننا في حافظ جالیري‪ ٬‬نسعد بأن نحتضن عودة الفنانة الریادیة منیرة‬ ‫موصلي بعد غیاب طویل عن مدینة جدة بمعرض شخصي‪ ،‬إيمانا منا بالدور‬ ‫الذي تجسده تجربة الفنانة من خصوصية وأهمية في التجربة التشكيلية‬ ‫المحلية وإعتزازآ منا بالمبدعين الذين أسسوا لبنة الفن في الحراك‬ ‫التشكيلي السعودي إينما كانوا وكيفما جاءت تجاربهم‪.‬‬ ‫آملين أن يساهم هذا المعرض النخبوي في تنامي عجلة مسيرة الفن‬ ‫والذائقة الجمالية في بالدنا الغالية‪.‬‬

‫شعرية األلوان‬ ‫اللوحة ليست مجرد إطار وأبعاد وفرشاة وألوان إنها عالم خاص تجد منيرة‬ ‫نفسها فيه فارضاً ألوانه وأشكاله وتكتيكه وحدوده‪..‬وتفيض هي عليه‬ ‫من األماكن والعناصر والمشاعر الكامنة‪ .‬والالوعي عند منيرة ليس هو‬ ‫الذي يتحكم في دفع الفنان الى حقل اإلبداع بصورة تلقائية‪..‬بل هي التي‬ ‫حافظت على تغذيته الدائمة من خالل استحضاره وتحفيزه‪.‬‬ ‫أما المثل الذي اتخذت منه منيرة مصباحا في طريقها الفني فهو يحيى‬ ‫بن محمود الواسطي من القرن الثالث عشر ألنه لم ينسج في رسمه على‬ ‫مثال سابق‪..‬إشارة الى الجدة في فن منيرة‪.‬‬ ‫في الخواطر الشعرية للفنانة منيرة نجد شغفا جمريا باللون يبدو في هذه‬ ‫الخواطر أوضح من اللوحات‪:‬‬ ‫الشاعر محمد العلي‬ ‫سنة الميالد ‪١٩٣٢‬م‬ ‫مكان الميالد‬ ‫قرية العمران باألحساء‬

‫«في اللون ثمة حواس‬ ‫تصحح النزوات التي تتفلسف خاللها الحواس»‬ ‫فاعال‪..‬نجده ناقداً يصحح نزوات الحواس‪..‬ال أنه ساكن‬ ‫هنا نجد اللون فناناً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫مستسلم لما يفعله به الفنان‪.‬‬ ‫«تمر مواكبك أمامي اآلن‬ ‫يا سيدي‬ ‫وأنت فيها تضفي وجع األلوان»‬ ‫ما هي هذه المواكب؟ ومن هو هذا السيد؟ وما هذه األلوان الطافحة‬ ‫بالوجع؟ أن يئن الكون‪..‬يتحول أنينه الى قصيدة هي شاعرة نفسها‪.‬‬ ‫«بغتة جاءك اللون‬ ‫فالمدى غياب‪»..‬‬ ‫هكذا يحتل اللون بكبريائه اآلفاق كلها‪..‬إنها تمتلئ به فال مجال للفراغ‬ ‫الذي يسمونه مدى‪.‬‬ ‫«صوت اللون في األيام‬ ‫يمشي بقميص الحشود‬ ‫وأتبعه»‬

‫أنتمي الى كل الحضارات‬

‫الى أين تذهب أيها اللون؟ اذهب حيث شئت فهناك فنانة اسمها منيرة‬ ‫ستتبعك وتصنع قميصاً ال للحشود‪..‬بل لها هي‪.‬‬

‫وكل األجناس وكل الفنون‬

‫مؤهال لتحديد المدرسة الفنية التي تنتمي لها الفنانة منيرة‪..‬ولكن‬ ‫لست‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ما يجدر به أن يطرح هنا هو أن التعبير الفني الذي فاض به اإلنسان منذ‬ ‫العصور الحجرية حتى اآلن ما هو إال شظايا النفس البشرية التي تعبر فيه‬ ‫عن نفسها كل فترة من الزمن تعبيراً صاعداً‪.‬‬

‫وكل األزمان‪..‬‬

‫ولهذا نشأت المدارس الفنية وأختها الشعرية وشقت كل مدرسة طريقها‬ ‫حسب شروطها الموضوعية والمعرفية‪.‬‬ ‫لو بحثت حتى تكل عيناك لن تجد تعريفاً للفنان أشد إضاءة من هذا‬ ‫التعريف الذي قالته الفنانة القديرة منيرة موصلي عن نفسها‪ ..‬ذلك ألن‬ ‫الفنان الجذري هو من ال تمأل أفقه النفسي واإلبداعي حضارة واحدة‪..‬‬ ‫فالقيم الجمالية التي هي ظمأ الفنان الدائم منبتة في جميع الحضارات‬ ‫والفنان الحق يقتبس أضواءه وظالله وألوانه من كل هذه الحضارات‪.‬‬

‫ولكن الفرق بيننا وبين الغرب الذي اقتبسنا منه أسماء تلك المدارس شعراً‬ ‫وتشكيال أن المدرسة فيه تنشأ في حقل معرفي ثم تنتشر في الحقول‬ ‫ً‬ ‫األخرى‪ ,‬كما يدل أن ثقافته عمودية وأفقية في آن معاً ‪ ,‬أما نحن فكل تلك‬ ‫المدارس لم تتشكل في ثقافتنا بحيث يصبح كل تيار منها له حشد من‬ ‫الشعراء او حشد من الفنانين‪.‬‬

‫والفنانة منيرة ال تدعك «تقرأ الفنجان» في تحديد معنى «اللوحة» في فضائها‬ ‫التشكيلي‪ ..‬بل هي التي تجعلك منبهراً امام معنى اللوحة في نضرها‪:‬‬

‫إن الشاعر الواحد في القصيدة الواحدة قد ينتقل من السريالية الى‬ ‫الواقعية الى التأثيرية دون أن يغمض له جفن بيت شعري واحد‪.‬‬

The Vision of Artist Mounirah Mosly As an artist Mounirah believes, she belongs to all civilizations, all races, all arts, and all times. She revisits them everyday, whenever she feels lonely and visionless. She is an eternal estrangement, and in a continuous search that never stops.

Through it, she sees life and freedom in her only space. She is fond of what is under the soil and beneath the pores. Her details are question marks that are never satisfied.

She quoted «I was born with them, and will die with them, too».

MOUNIRAH MOSLY: WHEN FEATURES ARE OF COLORS

When artist Mounirah Mosly asked me to write a word that introduces a special reading of her works, I was puzzled…

I say that I was puzzled because I am uncertain, up to this moment, if “color” is the main key to Mosly’s artistic and aesthetic world, or if “features” are the portal to access this rich world of visual momentum on one hand, and vision on the other hand!

Mosly’s artworks explore, or perhaps constitute, new features for color, and simultaneously, offer features, in which color, in its various gradations and values, is at the heart of its compositions.

From this view point, we can regard Mosly’s color philosophy on one hand, and with the concept of features on the other hand, not only as a living aspect that is fraught with connotation, but also as raw material for the formation of endless possibilities.

With respect to Mounirah Mosly, I would argue that her philosophy in envisioning and embodying features, is different from many artists. Mounirah is an artist inhabited with humanitarian concerns, many of which are Arab humanitarian concerns. For this reason, she deals with all visions and perspectives -even those with no human element -as features and faces. This would explain the overlap and the representation of nature and natural elements in her artworks, with those of features and faces, as if they were part of this nature.

Through this particular philosophy on features, whereby human and nature are complimentary parts of one whole, a humanitarian disposition comes forth in Mounira’s aesthetic universe; A universe in which the aesthetics of expression are attached to the obsession with public concerns in terms of the Arab world, and the humanitarian realm as well.

From this particular perspective, we can sense Mounirah’s celebration of nature, the features of the environment, and a universe of color that is open to endless possibilities, to reach the rediscovery of the personality of color.

But in spite of all the above mentioned, Mounirah Mosly also sports abstract tendencies that exhibit depth of vision, flexibility and abundance in terms of momentum and openness to a wide horizon of possibilities.

We are in the course of an aesthetic world that requires a thorough study of each of its elements. More importantly, we are in the course of elements -which I cannot say are overlapping -but integrated and harmonious.

In Mounirah Mosly’s world, features appear to be colors, while colors appear in unfamiliar, perhaps even unprecedented, features.

‫منيرة موصلي‪:‬‬ ‫عندما تكتسي المالمح باللون‬ ‫عندما طلبت مني الفنانة المتميزة‬ ‫منيرة موصلي‪ ،‬أن أكتب كلمة أقدم من‬ ‫خاللها رؤية خاصة عن أعمالها‪ ،‬إحترت‪..‬‬ ‫أقول إنني احترت ألنني لم أعرف حتى اآلن‪ ،‬وعلى وجه الدقة‪ ،‬إذا ما كان‬ ‫اللون هو المفتاح الرئيس لعالم منيرة موصلي الفني والجمالي‪ ،‬أم أن‬ ‫المالمح هي بوابة الولوج إلى هذا العالم الثري على صعيد الزخم البصري‬ ‫من ناحية‪ ،‬وعلى صعيد الرؤيا من ناحية أخرى؟! ذلك أن لوحات منيرة‬ ‫موصلي تستكشف أو ربما تشكل‪ ،‬مالمح جديدة للون‪ ،‬وتقدم في نفس‬ ‫الوقت‪ ،‬المالمح‪ ،‬حسب توليفة يدخل اللون بمستويات تدرجه المختلفة‪،‬‬ ‫في صميم تكوينها‪.‬‬ ‫ومن هنا يمكننا الوقوف على حقيقة التعاطي لمنيرة موصلي مع فلسفة‬ ‫اللون من جهة‪ ،‬ومع مفهوم المالمح ال باعتبارها جزءا حيا ومشحونا‬ ‫بالدالالت فقط‪ ،‬وإنما باعتبارها مادة خام لتشكيل االحتماالت التي ال‬ ‫نهاية لها‪ ،‬من جهة أخرى‪.‬‬ ‫بالنسبة لمنيرة موصلي‪ ،‬فإنني أزعم بأن فلسفتها في رؤية وتجسيد‬ ‫المالمح‪ ،‬تختلف عن كثير من الفنانين‪ .‬منيرة موصلي فنانة مسكونة‬ ‫بهموم اإلنسان عموما‪ ،‬واإلنسان العربي خصوصا‪ ،‬ولهذا فهي تتعامل‬ ‫مع كل فضاءات الرؤية وزوايا النظر حتى ولو خلت من العنصر البشري‪،‬‬ ‫باعتبارها مالمح ووجوه‪ .‬وهو ما يفسر تداخل البيئة بمكوناتها وعناصرها‬ ‫الطبيعية‪ ،‬مع المالمح والوجوه التي تبدو كما لو كانت جزءا من هذه‬ ‫البيئة نفسها‪.‬‬ ‫من خالل هذه الفلسفة الخاصة للمالمح‪ ،‬حيث التداخل والتكامل بين‬ ‫اإلنسان والمكان‪ ،‬تتجلى نزعة األنسنة في عالم منيرة موصلي الجمالي‪...‬‬ ‫هذا العالم الذي ترتبط جماليات التعبير فيه‪ ،‬بهاجس الهم العام على‬ ‫الصعيد العربي‪ ،‬واإلنساني أيضا‪.‬‬ ‫من هنا تحديدا‪ ،‬نستطيع أن نتلمس احتفاء منيرة موصلي بالطبيعة‪،‬‬ ‫ومالمح البيئة‪ ،‬وفضاءات اللون المفتوحة على احتماالت ال نهاية لها‪،‬‬ ‫إلعادة اكتشاف شخصية اللون‪.‬‬ ‫لكن وعلى الرغم من كل ما سبق‪ ،‬فإن منيرة موصلي تتمتع أيضا‪ ،‬بنزعة‬ ‫تجريدية تتسم بالعمق على صعيد الرؤيا‪ ،‬وتتسم بالمرونة والثراء‪ ،‬من حيث‬ ‫الزخم واالنفتاح على آفاق واسعة من االحتماالت‪.‬‬ ‫إننا بصدد عالم جمالي يحتاج إلى دراسة وافية لكل عنصر من عناصره‪.‬‬ ‫واألهم أننا بصدد عناصر ال أستطيع أن أقول عنها بأنها متداخلة‪ ،‬بقدر ما‬ ‫هي متكاملة ومتناغمة‪.‬‬ ‫في عالم منيرة موصلي‪ ،‬تبدو المالمح كما لو كانت ألوانا‪ ،‬وتظهر األلوان‬ ‫بمالمح غير مألوفة‪ ..‬وربما غير مسبوقة‪.‬‬ ‫أنس زاهد‬ ‫كاتب ومؤلف سعودي‬

ARTIST’S BIOGRAPHY Mounirah Mosly was born in Makkah, Saudi Arabia in July 1954. She is a graduate of the College of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1974. She worked as a teacher for three years in Dar al- Hanan Schools in Jeddah chairing the Arts Department. She pursued further artistic studies in the United States and earned a diploma in Graphic Design in 1979. In the same year, she joined the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, ARAMCO where she is the publications design specialist in the Public Relation Department.

Mounirah has staged a number of private exhibitions, the first in Jeddah in 1973. Mounirah participated in various exhibitions in Saudi Arabia and abroad, beginning with a joint exhibition in Ash-Shams Gallery, in Jeddah in 1972. She has continued to show without interruption «Ajyad Converses with Hajar» in October 2001, Manama, State of Bahrain.

Mounirah was the founder of the Art Festival in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia in 2007. The latest exhibition was in Riyadh for Gaza Child: Artistic Stand and in Bait Muzna, Muscat, Oman along with Yousef Ahmad of Qatar and Ahmed Bahrani of Iraq both in 2009.

In 1994, Mounirah was selected as an Artistic Specialist by the Arab Gulf Program in support of the United Nations

Development Organizations to contribute to their artistic and media programs. She has also earned a number of awards from several artistic Arab and international agencies and organizations.

Over the last 25 years, Mounirah has actively pursued her artistic endeavors creating a unique collection and a versatile body of artistic and literary works, social contributions and studies about Children art and its relation with the society published in local and Arab newspapers and journals.

‫ولدت منيرة موصلي في مكة المكرمة عام ‪ .١٩٥٤‬تخرجت من كلية الفنون‬ ‫الجميلة في القاهرة عام ‪ .١٩٧٤‬ثم واصلت دراستها في الواليات المتحدة‬ ‫األمريكية وحصلت على دبلوم في فن التصميم عام ‪ .١٩٧٩‬إلتحقت‬ ‫في العام نفسه بالعمل في شركة أرامكو السعودية كمسؤولة عن‬ ‫المطبوعات في إدارة العالقات العامة‪.‬‬ ‫أقامت منيرة معارض فنية خاصة كان أولها في جدة عام ‪ ١٩٧٢‬كما‬ ‫شاركت في معارض مختلفة بصورة متواصلة حتى معرض المنامة في‬ ‫اكتوبر ‪ ٢٠٠١‬في مملكة البحرين‪ .‬كانت منيرة المؤسس لمهرجان الفن في‬ ‫الخبر عام ‪ ،٢٠٠٧‬أما عن معارضها األخيرة فكانت في الرياض عام ‪٢٠٠٩‬‬ ‫بعنوان «أطفال غزة» ومعرض مشترك مع كل من الفنانين يوسف أحمد‬ ‫من قطر وأحمد البحراني من العراق في قاعة بيت مزنة في مسقط‬ ‫بسلطنة عمان‪.‬‬ ‫اختيرت منيرة للعمل كأخصائية فنية عام ‪ ١٩٩٤‬من قبل برنامج الخليج‬ ‫العربي لدعم منظمات األمم المتحدة اإلنمائية للمساهمة في برامجه‬ ‫الفنية واإلعالمية‪ .‬كما حصلت على عدد من الجوائز التقديرية من جهات‬ ‫ومؤسسات فنية عربية وعالمية‪.‬‬ ‫ظلت منيرة تواصل عملها خالل فترة إمتدت أكثر من ربع قرن كان حصيلتها‬ ‫مجموعة من األعمال والدراسات الفنية التي نشرت في الصحف المحلية‬ ‫والعربية وأهمها دراستين عن فن األطفال وعالقته بالمجتمع‪.‬‬

‫مجموعة أصدقاء الفن الخليجي في دول مجلس التعاون العربي‪.‬‬

‫‪١994‬م اختيرت كأخصائية فنية من قبل برنامج الخليج العربي لدعم منظمات‬ ‫األمم المتحدة االنمائية «اجفند»‪.‬‬ ‫‪١99٢‬م صممت وأشرفت على معرض أرامكو السعودية التاريخي «صور من‬ ‫الماضي» وهو معرض للصور التاريخية عام ‪1992‬م‪.‬‬ ‫‪١99١‬م صممت وطبعت إحدى أعمالها الفنية على هيئة ملصق لصالح دار رعاية‬ ‫المعوقين بالرياض‪.‬‬ ‫‪١99٠‬م اختيرت كأول فنانة عربية لتصميم ملصق‪ ،‬لصالح معهد األبحاث‬ ‫والتدريب الدولي لتطوير المشروعات النسائية التابع لهيئة األمم المتحدة‬ ‫‪ .INSTRAW‬وبيع الملصق في مكتبات األمم المتحدة لصالح المشروع المذكور‪.‬‬ ‫‪١987‬م طبعت مجموعة بطاقات من أعمالها الفنية لصالح أطفال لبنان‪،‬‬ ‫واالنتفاضة الفلسطنية‪.‬‬ ‫‪١987 – ١98٦‬م هي واحدة من مؤسسي مرسم الدمام وكانت رئيسته في‬ ‫نفس الفترة‪.‬‬ ‫‪١994 – ١985‬م ألقت عدة محاضرات عن دور الفن التشكيلي المحلي داخل‬ ‫المملكة وخارجها‪.‬‬ ‫‪١988 – ١985‬م أعدت دراستين عن الفن واألطفال وعالقته بالمجتمع‪.‬‬ ‫‪١99٢ – ١984‬م قامت بتصميم األغلفة وإعداد الرسوم الداخلية لكتب بعض‬ ‫الكتاب والشعراء السعوديين‪.‬‬ ‫‪٢٠٠٠ – ١98٠‬م صممت وأشرفت على معرض رسوم األطفال «أرامكو‬ ‫السعودية – الطفولة تعبر عن نفسها‪».‬‬ ‫‪١987 – ١98٠‬م شاركت في لجان تحكيم مسابقة أرامكو السعودية السنوية‬ ‫لرسوم األطفال‪ .‬كما كانت تشرف على ترتيبات هذه اللجان‪.‬‬ ‫‪٢٠٠9 – ١975‬م شاركت في االعداد لبرامج تربوية وفنية وثقافية لصالح بعض‬ ‫المؤسسات الخيرية واالجتماعية والفنية المحلية‪.‬‬ ‫‪١98٦ – ١975‬م نشرت مقاالت عن موضوعات فنية وأدبية واجتماعية في‬ ‫الصحف المحلية والعربية‪.‬‬ ‫المقتنيات الفنية‪:‬‬ ‫‪١994-١993‬م مقتنيات خاصة في كل من السعودية – أمريكا – كندا‪.‬‬ ‫‪١989‬م متحف الفن الحديث مدريد‪ ،‬اسبانيا‪ ،‬قسم الحفر‪.‬‬ ‫‪١988‬م المتحف الوطني الملكي األردني‪.‬‬ ‫‪١984‬م األمانة العامة لمجلس التعاون الخليجي في الرياض‪.‬‬

ABOUT THE ARTIST MOUNIRAH MOSLY

Born in Makkah, Saudi Arabia on July 1954. She is a graduate of the College of Fine Arts in Cairo on 1974. She worked as a teacher for three years in Dar al-Hanan Schools in Jeddah chairing the Arts Department.

She pursued further artistic studies in the United States and earned a diploma in Graphic Design on 1979. On the same year, she joined the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, ARAMCO where she is the publications design specialist in the Public Relation Department.
