Hadleigh Show proceeds go to Porch Project & other charities

The Very Reverend Martin Thrower founder of the project with some of the youngsters who have benefited from the initiative, and presenting the cheque for £1000, Phil Bryce 2012 Hadleigh Show Director.

The Hadleigh Show is the main fundraising event organised annually by the Hadleigh Farmers Agricultural Association (HFAA). In spite of its size, it is not a commercial venture and the proceeds from the Show go to local charities as well as into funding future shows. This year Show Director, Phil Bryce, chose The Porch Project as his main charity to benefit from the Show’s success. The Porch Project was the result of a central Hadleigh church offering a solution to a problem which was affecting the whole of the local community. Teenagers, with nothing to entertain them in the market town, were quite literally gathering in the church porch of St Mary’s because there was nowhere else for them to go. In September 2009, the Very Reverend Martin Thrower, founder of the project, took a bold step and opened the doors of the church to offer the twenty or so young people, hospitality and a safe space to meet in the body of the church. Today, the project is in contact with over 350 young people between the ages of 11 and 19. Drop-in nights are Tuesday and Friday where pool, snooker, card games, three large screen games consoles and supervised cooking is offered. Continues on page 2
