The End of the End-to-End! After months of planning, training and worrying Jimmy and Dick finally got on their bikes at Lands End for the real thing on Sunday 19th June and 13 days and 942 miles later got off them again at John O’ Groats. “Simples!” as a certain well known meerkat might say. But that would be to grossly underestimate and belittle what was truly a magnificent achievement. A little thing like a combined age of 135 years was not going to put them off and such enthusiasm is contagious. Their aim was to take on a challenge that would attract as much support as possible from the community to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, a cause which is very close to both their hearts, and I am very pleased to be able to say I think they have achieved that. Although there is still some way to go in collecting all the promised sponsorships (and if you sponsored them and are still to settle up don’t worry I am sure someone will be getting in touch shortly) so far we have collected in excess of £10,000 for the Charity. But Jimmy and Dick would be the first to admit that they could not have done what they have without a first rate support team. A big thank must go to Colin, Richard, George and Chris, the “boys” who went with them, fed them, woke them and generally made sure they got to journeys end safely! But, equally as important, mention must also be made of all the other individuals and organisations that provided the financial and practical help that was vital to making it happen. Without you all it would not have been possible. A list would be too large to print here but thank you all so very much. Finally, if you somehow have missed any of the associated events which have supported this endeavour don’t worry, there are still one or two things going on. Keep your eyes open or contact Jimmy, Dick or myself. The next event on the horizon is the Hadleigh 3’s Open Darts tournament on 12th August at the British Legion and all are welcome, an entry form is on page 22.
