Rotary Round-up

For over 25 years The Bridge Project has been a part of the furniture in Sudbury town centre. Interestingly, if I ever ask people what they know of The Bridge they answer, at best, with just one of the things we do. Some of you may know us for a hot meal delivery service, others for the day service we run for adults with learning disabilities, maybe you know us from our matchday kitchen at AFC Sudbury or perhaps you were a customer of our very popular Scone Round. We do all of these things (the scones are coming back!) but we also have big and exciting plans to do more.

By the time you read this, the construction of our new purpose-built site next to AFC Sudbury will be well underway. Our building on Gainsborough Street has looked after us well for over 20 years but the escalating cost of maintaining the building coupled with the inaccessibility of a 4-storey property led us to consider a move.

Our new home has been designed just for us and the extra space (all of it wheelchair accessible) will enable our students to enjoy a greater breadth of education and experiences. We will enjoy the outdoor space available. In time, this will enable us to grow our own produce, promote conservation, build nature trails and so on. The potential is limitless.

At the front and centre of all that we do at The Bridge is our community of students (this is the term we use for our day service users). At every opportunity we have a student contributing and working toward the success and sustainability of The Bridge. This can be through working in our kitchen preparing meals for the delivery service, helping to deliver the meals, making items to sell or working in one of our shops serving customers.

Led by our new-ish CEO, Dave Jackson, we are working to reach more people in our local area than ever before. This growth comes with opportunities to join us and we are recruiting for both paid and unpaid roles. Please check out our website for more information. That’s all for me for now! I’ll be back next month with news of our new shop Create. Opening imminently in Borehamgate we will be bringing our Paint Your Own Pottery back to the town centre. Watch this space!
