Boxford Trio Conquer the Dome! Sunday 12th May saw Julien, Veronica and Robert along with Eileen Norman as witness, leave Boxford and head to London to reach new heights for Boxford Village Hall. When we arrived and stood at the base of the Dome and looked up the scale of what was in front of us reality started to sink in. We headed to the check in desk and before we knew it were whisked in for a safety briefing and then suited and harnessed ready to go. We were then lead to the platform from where we would start our ascent and introduced to the piece of fabric strung between two poles that would act as our walkway over the top of the dome and right down the other side. Once our guide ensured we were connected to the safety cable we gingerly stepped onto the fabric to start our climb, once we had become accustomed to the bounce and movement in the fabric we started to climb the steep walkway towards the centre of the dome. Luckily the weather was in our favour and although it was windy the sun shone on us and we were spared the predicted rain for the duration of the walk. Once we reached the platform in the centre we were unclipped and given the opportunity to move around and take in the spectacular sights from an unusual view point. Our guide also shared with us some of the things they were hoping to do in the future subject to agreement from Health and Safety, who knows in a couple of years’ time we may go back to experience one of their ideas as another fundraiser!!! It was soon time to be re-attached to the safety cable and start the descent down the other side. Seeing the walk way just drop away did make us wonder just how we were going to get back down but before we knew it the ground was in sight and Eileen was standing at the bottom to greet us. Finally we would like to say thank you to all the people that have sponsored us in this latest fundraiser, we have currently raised approximately £1800 of our two thousand pound target. If anybody who has not had the opportunity to donate, still wishes to then please speak to one of us or you donate by texting 70070 quoting BOVH13 and the amount you wish to sponsor e.g. BOVH13 £5 Julian Fincham-Jacques
