Token Scheme launched in Hadleigh The East of England Co-operative Society is helping local people support their community by launching a token scheme at their Hadleigh Supermarket. The three local projects set to gain from the collection are the Porch Project, the Shelley Centre for Therapeutic Riding and Hadleigh Community Transport. Customers at the Hadleigh Store will be given a token for every five pounds they spend in store* and they will be able to choose which of the three projects they would like to support. Each token will be worth 5p to the project. The Porch Project was founded in 2009, starting with just 15 members. It now sees over 150 young people aged between 11 and 20 years old who meet 3 times a week. The project provides hospitality, counselling, education and recreational activities designed to improve their conditions of life. The Shelley Centre for Therapeutic Riding provides riding and carriage driving for local adults and children with special needs. The volunteer run centre has eight horses at the centre that need care all year round as well as equipment and training required to carry out the riding sessions which will be supported by the tokens collected. Hadleigh Community Transport hopes to create new travel services to improve the lives of people in Hadleigh and the surrounding area. They hope to start a regular bus service to Ipswich Hospital for appointments and visits, a bus

service to Bury St Edmunds Market and to offer further transport services that local people need. Hadleigh Mayor Mary Munson, helped the East of England Co-op to select the three projects to support. At the launch she said, “This is the first initiative of this type to be introduced to Hadleigh and the local people have taken to it very well. I was keen that the three projects chosen covered all age groups with in Hadleigh and the surrounding area. ...Continued on page 4
