Sign up for The Gayford Flyer... Cyclists are busy signing up for the Gayford Flyer, Hadleigh’s own sportive on September 18th. Last year’s event attracted over 200 cyclists and Hadleigh Cycling Club is looking to tempt even more. The sportive is named “The Gayford Flyer” in recognition of the town’s world record breaking aviator, Oswald Gayford. The 60 and 32 mile routes will take riders past landmarks including Gayford family home on Angel Street, RAF Wattisham where he served as commander and his final resting place in Naughton. Adam Chamberlin, Chair of the Club said, “We had tremendous feedback from those who took part in last year’s event. Everyone commented that it was well run and it is only £10 to enter.” Last year’s Flyer impressed British Cycling and their representative commented that it “was a super event – well thought through, well executed and very enjoyable to be part of.” Details of the event can be found at www.thegayfordflyer.info. Cyclists can only sign up via www.britishcycling.org.uk and the last day for registering is 11th September. There will live music and refreshments at The George Public House for the riders and their friends and family after the Sportive. The sportive is supported by The Pedal House, The George, Sunny Day Cycleworks, Crockatt Garage and Rattlesden Gliding Club. The Club will also make a donation to local charity, The Brendan Oakes Trust.
