Hadleigh RFC and Wattisham Station join forces for charity... An invitational Hadleigh RFC XV and Army Air Corp XV took to the pitch recently at Layham Road Sports Ground to compete in the inaugural Bungle Memorial Cup match. A total of £2,500 was raised for TSSS (Turner Syndrome Support Society) and the Lainey Walters Trust. Hadleigh RFC emerged winners (36-32) in a game that proved highly competitive and entertaining throughout. The Cup match also proved the perfect draw for a large crowd of supporters keen to honour the memory of Cpl James ‘Bungle’ Walters who lost his life in Afghanistan earlier this year. The Cup match was just one of the highlights arranged in a full afternoon and evening of fundraising. Live entertainment was provided by Wattisham Military Wives Choir in a very moving set and by the brilliant, Zoe and the Pulse. A pitch side bar, BBQ, match commentary, raffle, guest ales, karaoke and lots of other activities for the kids also helped us to persuade parents to register their children for the new season. Servicemen, players, supporters and even passers-by came along and joined in the fun. Commenting on the day, Charlie Warburton, Chairman, Hadleigh RFC, said “This has been an absolutely wonderful day. We are all very happy and proud to have been able to honour James’ memory in such fitting style and with such emphatic support from our local Community and friends at Wattisham Station, Bungle's family and, of course, Tracey and Lainey Walters”.
