Come Garden with Us!

Do you fancy getting out in the fresh air and helping to look after our local park in Sudbury? If so, you will be very welcome – and no gardening experience is necessary.

The flower garden at Belle Vue Park is tended by our volunteer group, which is co-ordinated by the charity ActivGardens, and we meet come rain or shine at 09:30 every Thursday. We are a friendly group of individuals who like to be out in the garden and most of us don’t want to miss a week! We have a tea break and a natter at about 11:00 and pack away at 12:00.

There are some very knowledgeable gardeners in the group and others who just come to enjoy some lawn edge trimming, flower deadheading and leaf sweeping, under the guidance of the others. We are supported by Babergh and Mid-Suffolk Council and are looking forward to getting a new battery-operated lawn mower in the spring – so if you like to mow grass we’d like to see you!

The garden used to be attached to Belle Vue House, which is awaiting development of some kind. It has been a popular community space for many years and has developed into an exemplar of droughtresistant gardening on our very free-draining valleyedge soils. Even after the drought and extreme temperatures of summer 2022 most of the plants did well and our long borders were full and colourful. (Of interest to referral organisations: we have limited capacity for supervision and all our flower beds are at ground level.)
