EPIC TREK FOR CHRIS COMPLETED As you would have heard from the front cover of the December edition, the family of Chris Corder, who was critically injured in a severe hit and run incident on September 27th 2009, were in the process of planning a ‘Walk for Chris’ to help raise funds for his future care and rehabilitation. We are pleased to say that we have completed this epic 90 miles journey over the Christmas period. We began on 27th December at 7am and walked from dawn till dusk for 3 days and then from dawn until 2pm on the 30th December when we arrived at The Royal London Hospital. During day 1 we walked a total of 23 miles from Hadleigh to Coggeshall making steady progress in the morning passing through plenty of mud on The Essex Way footpath especially in the afternoon. Day 2 we followed a route close to The Essex Way from Coggeshall to Willingale (Between Chelmsford and Ongar) and made significant progress walking 27 miles due to the beneficial conditions. Day 3 followed Essex Way and Three Forests Way from Willingale to Hainault via Ongar and over the M25. The weather did turn for the worse with ankle deep mud for 6 miles in the afternoon. We managed to walk 24 miles which was a fantastic achievement considering the weather. Finally on Day 4 we walked the final 16 miles from Hainault to The Royal London Hospital via Ilford and Stratford. Continued page 8
