The HVACR industry is making the transition to more environmentally friendly (lower GWP) refrigerants. With this transition, HFCs are being phased down and there has been a growing acceptance of the use of A2L refrigerants due to their lower flammability and toxicity.

Just like A1 refrigerants, some A2L refrigerants are blends and some are pure. Here are a few A2L refrigerants and what HFCs refrigerants they replace. Please refer to flammable refrigerant safety guides, regional codes and legislation for more information about handling these refrigerants.

A2L, What You Need To Know

Specific tools that can be certified to service A2L equipment are recovery machines, vacuum pumps, and leak detectors.

The UEi RLD15B Refrigerant Leak Detector is “A2L Certified” to the SAE 2913 standard, which includes “Component Ignition Testing”, that meets the A2L Certification.

UEi’s other Refrigeration products outside that product category are designed to work with equipment using A2L refrigerants and categorized as “A2L Compatible”.
