ven as the Trinidadbased company is seeking answers over the denial of its Local Content Certificate, it has been revealed that Ramps Logistics Guyana was fined $20 million by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) for violating local customs laws.

A senior official told Guyana Times on Thursday that the company, which has provided freight forwarding and supply chain management services here since 2013, acts as the agent of Motor Vessel Seacor Mixteca, and it failed to report the vessel departing Guyana.

This, the official explained, is in violation of the Customs Act hence Ramps paid the fine of $20 million in lieu of court proceedings being instituted against the company by the GRA. Further, the company was asked to show cause why its customs brokerage licence should not be suspended for this breach but it has so far failed to provide any justification. Beneficial ownership is defined as owning 51 per cent of the company. Additionally, a local company is expected to have Guyanese in at least 75 per cent of executive and senior management positions and at least 90 per cent in non-managerial and other positions.

On Wednesday, Ramps Logistics Guyana claimed that it followed all the requisite guidelines, but Government has denied its Local Content Certificate via an “automated” email, without any explanation.

The company said while it was not making any assertions as to why it was denied entry into the Local Content Registry, this move would negatively affect the company and ultimately threaten the more than 400 Guyanese employees’ livelihoods.

“The Local Content Secretariat is entirely within its right to refuse entry to any company seeking registration according to the legislation. However, we ask that reason be given for this denial, so that companies can take the necessary steps to become compliant,” the company said in a statement, adding that transparent protocols should be put in place to aid investors willing to set up operations in Guyana.

At a press conference on Thursday morning, Ramps Logistics Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shaun Rampersad said the company divested 51 per cent ownership of its Guyana operations to Trinidad-based investor Deepak Lall, who has Guyanese parentage, to bring its operations in compliance with the Local Content laws.

born, but migrated in 1961 and the family now operates one of the largest oil and gas companies in the Caribbean out of Trinidad. In fact, Lall’s grandfather was in the petroleum business in Guyana, operating a gas station – Lall’s Esso Station in Vreed-en-Hoop, West Bank Demerara during the 1950s.

“The company wanted to divest to a partner who can add value not just to our company but to Guyana as whole. So, we were very, very particular about making sure we divest to a Guyanese national who we felt could add significant value to the organisation. That was extremely important to us.” “[Deepak Lall] knows, of course, that we work very closely in the oil and gas sec-

tor here in Guyana and that was a major area for him to reconnect to his Guyanese roots and from his grandfather to himself, servicing companies [in oil and gas],” Rampersad disclosed.

According to the CEO, Lall bought the 51 per cent shares for $210 million, and the monies were earmarked for two major projects for the company – a new cargo airline for additional airlift into and out of Guyana, and secondly, a new shipping line to move cargo between Guyana, Trinidad, and Suriname.

“We felt very, very proud to be able to find somebody like this to be able to come back and invest in Guyana.

We really, really did and so, of course, there is a certain amount of hurt in the team, I would say, because we were at the [final] stage. But we really went out there and we were able to bring back somebody who would add significant value to Guyana,” Rampersad contended.

He noted that the company felt it was playing its part in bringing not just investments but networks and skills from the Guyanese Diaspora back into Guyana in keeping with the charge and plea from President Dr Irfaan Ali. TURN TO PAGE 7

ith Guyana aiming to become a medical hub in the region, President Dr Irfaan Ali has stated that the country would be moving to develop the framework and infrastructure to not only build a vaccine factory, but to also encourage investors in medical research and development to come here.

The Head of State made this pronouncement on Thursday at the ground-breaking ceremony of COVID-19 vaccine maker BioNTech’s mRNA vaccine factory in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city, where he has travelled for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

The vaccine facility is expected to enable the African nation to jump-start its own manufacturing, and according to President Ali, Guyana is hoping to do the same.

“Of course, for Guyana, this is the direction we want to head in. We want to be able to develop the framework and infrastructure to be able not only to build a similar facility in Guyana, but to encourage investors in research and development in the medical field as a whole to come to Guyana as a medical hub, in developing vaccines and developing a treatment for malaria, etc,” he stated.

But, to achieve this, the President noted, the “right” regulatory, legislative and institutional framework and the support of countries like Rwanda and Ghana, who have already chartered the way, will be required.

To this end, it has been noted that bilateral discussions on the way forward are already “on the agenda” with the two African nations.

“We can work with these countries in building our regulatory framework, our institutional framework, and developing the training facility that will ensure we have highly skilled and capable human resources to transition into this new field, and to transition into this new area of developmental opportunity that we want to bring to Guyana,” the Head of State has said.

President Ali went on to remind that the COVID-19 pandemic has taught the importance of not only having access to vaccines, but to ensure that every region globally is vac-

cine-secure. It also highlighted the great inequality in not only the manufacturing of vaccines and the pricing, but also the distribution.

In order to combat these challenges, the President disclosed, Guyana and Barbados would be working “aggressively” together with the innovators, researchers, and developers in advancing this goal.

“Well, Prime Minister [of Barbados, Mia] Mottley and I had had some discussions already. And one of the things that we’re looking to do is to have the regulators and the Attorneys General for the countries look at our existing legal framework, look at our existing food and drugs administration, and to see how we can bridge the gap; and then to take the model out of Rwanda and Ghana, to incorporate that model in advancing our legislative framework

to build a foundation that this industry can be built on,” the Guyanese Leader has said.

Such a facility in Guyana, the Head of State emphasised, would benefit the entire Caribbean Region as well as South America, and would provide access to many other vaccines utilising the technology.

“Well, it’s not only Guyana; we are an important hub: we are part of the Caribbean, we are a part of South America, we have a lot of trade agreements with a number of countries, and it is one to ensure that the region itself - Guyana and the region - has a facility that we can be dependent on in terms of crisis vaccines to respond to our own needs, to build our capacity, and also, more importantly, to make us vaccine-secure,” he posited.

The President further stated that the intention is to bring the local players in the pharmaceutical industry together in a consortium with the regional and international actors in order to generate the

capacity needed.

He reminded that part of Guyana’s development trajectory in diversifying the economy is to invest in the knowledge sector, and to invest in health care and education as a great export earner for Guyana.

BioNTech’s mRNA said the initial vaccine factory in Kigali, made from an assembly kit and housed in shipping containers, would, over the next few years, become part of a wider supply network spanning several African nations, including Senegal and South Africa.

President Ali and First Lady Arya Ali travelled to Rwanda earlier this week to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which is being held under the theme “Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming”.

The official opening of the CHOGM will take place today. This will be followed by high-level meetings of leaders on Friday and Saturday. (G8)

Illicit substances in schools

A

nother child has been caught with marijuana in school.

This again bring to the fore the discussion about the use of illicit substances by our young people.

In May, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) swooped down on several schools in Lethem, Region Nine (Upper Takutu–Upper Essequibo) after receiving reports of students selling narcotics in institutions of learning. Fortunately, CANU officers were able to apprehend three adults who facilitated the supply of the illegal substance to the students.

This issue might have come as a surprise to many, and is extremely worrying. What is clear is that some young people have and are being exposed to a drug that also affects the brain, and one that also has reportedly been used as a date rape trap.

As this newspaper had previously said, sadly, drug use in some schools is not new. Unfortunately, young minds are involved in cigarette smoking and consumption of alcohol to other activities that are far more harmful. Some are bold enough to capture the effects through unsavoury activities they engaged in afterwards, evident from videos that circulate. Some time ago, CANU’s Deputy Head had said that looking at the videos, especially those involving young girls, is really worrying for society.

Clearly, this most recent bust will now attract attention, and the expectation would be for the implementation of measures to eliminate this illegal practice, especially within the school system. This will not be easy. Law enforcement will have to up the ante in all aspects, including intelligence, to holistically deal with this situation, which has a frightening potential to become a wider problem.

While the teachers in the school must be commended for making the discovery, it raises concerns over how long it might have been ongoing; whether the schools were aware, or whether they have the capacity to aid in identifying drug sales and use within.

Another reality is that young people will experiment, unfortunately, with harmful things. This is where the Education Ministry will have to be more innovative to derive mechanisms to build capacity among teachers, so that they can be able to spot any possible sign. Once again, this will not be easy, given the innovativeness of those involved. That aside, there must be some signs, including changes in students’ behavioral pattern and performances, depending upon the extent of usage. The teachers will need to be supported in this fight, and it may very well demand a relooking of policies at a higher level for the implementation of effective combating mechanisms. This would need some urgency, given that some young people, who represent the future, are involved. It will take the involvement of all: parents, teachers, the Ministry and law enforcement.

Crucial is sustained education on the harmful effects of drug use, for which the media should be encouraged to be a part. It has to be national, given what’s at stake. Maybe this could be the opportunity for the establishment of a structured school monitoring mechanism with specific responsibility. This has been touted before for other reasons, where trained personnel could either be stationed or make visits to schools to gauge any related effects.

This would have to be thoroughly thought out, for there is the possibility teachers could feel that part of their responsibility is being usurped. They generally look for signs that could indicate a shift in behaviour, and try to find a way of having it resolved.

We must, however, commend the collaboration between the Guyana Police Force and the Education Ministry, wherein random searches are being conducted at schools for potential weapons. This now should be extended to illicit substances.

Mayor’s personal agenda is blinding him Dear Editor, Statements appearing in certain sections of the media, attributed to the Mayor of Georgetown on my performance as City Engineer, were brought to my attention by concerned staff members.

The Mayor continues to attempt to publicly question my competence, and hold me up to public ridicule. This action by the Mayor could undermine the authority of the department, and the council as a whole. In the circumstances, I wish to state the following: 1. The Mayor appears to be using this situation (flooding of certain communities and the recent alleged observation along the waterfront) as an opportunity to achieve his personal agenda against me, to have my services terminated by the Local Government Commission.

Hence his repeated calls to the Commission and Government to have me removed from my official position.

2. The Mayor’s personal agenda is blinding him to the core issues involved.

Here are some facts: A: The mayor has repeatedly said, at many fora, that the council does not have the resources to provide consistent services to the citizens of Georgetown.

B: Inadequate staffing in that section: Due to shortage of staff, sluices and pump attendants are forced to work

seven (7) days a week on the waterfront. This is encouraging absenteeism and human error by these vital workers. Essentially, this has been affecting their work performance, and compromising these municipal facilities.

The Mayor is fully aware of this situation. In fact, a report that was copied to him from my department, which he also used at the recent meeting with the Prime Minister, explained this dilemma. The outcome of the discussions at that meeting was published by Stabroek News on 10th June 2022.

C: The lack of appropriate equipment and safety gear for workers is also affecting the way they do their work. Currently, the waterfront and other staff under my department are without rain coats and other allied gear.

D: Poor and harsh work condition: I have budgeted for, and stated to the council, the urgent need to repair sluice huts and allied structures, to provide proper facilities for the attendants.

Although the department has raised the appropriate requisitions, it is still awaiting the purchase of materials to carry out those works to create a better work environment for those staff on the council’s waterfront.

E: Of recent, the Mayor attempted to call meetings with junior officers without my knowledge and presence.

In such circumstances, there is a high possibility of inaccurate information being disseminated about drainage and other facilities of the Council. Also, I see this as an attempt to undermine my authority as head of that department.

3. I wish to iterate that, as City Engineer, I have always been committed to my

duties and obligations, as prescribed by the Municipal and District Council Act, Chapter 28:01, even though I am working under many constraints.

Jagdeo has faithfully served our nation

Dear Editor, The recent uproar involving Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo and Vice News’ attempt to entrap him in a scandal is hypocritical at best. Jagdeo has faithfully served our nation for decades, and if there is wrongdoing, journalistic research and good investigative journalism would have exposed it by now.

The hand behind Vice News’ attempt to tarnish one of our country's Presidents must be exposed.

For the Opposition to call for Jagdeo's resignation without clear evidence of wrongdoing, while leaders within the APNU/AFC have not been held accountable for actions that have shown clearly the abuse of public office, brings into question the integrity of their parties.

Why are leaders of the Opposition not purging their

List of Representatives of those who have been reported for taking bribes? Why haven't they carried out a full investigation?

If there is a call for integrity, honesty, and zero tolerance for corruption, then a good house cleaning must occur. No public official is above the law, and CRG fully supports a zero-tolerance policy on corruption.

If our Parliament is serious on this issue, then they must enable and empower the judicial system to carry out this work, no matter who is involved. The judicial system must be independent and strong enough that not even His Excellency L.F.S. Burnham would be able to circumvent being held accountable for the abuse of public office.

101 years of active legal A lesson from trade unionism in Guyana Rwanda

Dear Editor, This year, 2022, marks one hundred and one years since the enactment, on 18 June 1921, of the Trade Unions Act: Chapter 98:03 – #17 of 1921. This first fundamental Trade Union Law provides for registration and regulation of trade unions; their rights, protection, obligations; the registration of rules; changes in rules; amalgamation; the rendering of financial accountability; audit of accounts; and the report of the Registrar of Trades Unions to the National Assembly.

The main statutory provisions include: Trade Unions: Trade Unions are prohibited from carrying out business, unless it is registered (Sections 11-12) with the Registrar of Trade Unions in accordance with this Act. A trade union not registered in accordance with this Act shall be dissolved within three months of its formation; or be dissolved, if the Registrar of Trade Unions refuses to register it, for failure to meet the requirements of this Act

(Section 24).

Any seven or more members of a trade union may, by subscribing their names to the rules of the union, register the union with the Registrar of Trade Unions. (Section 15) Protection of Trade Unions: In furtherance of a trade dispute within the context of this Act, trade unions are protected from criminal prosecution for conspiracy or otherwise.

The purpose of any trade union shall not be unlawful so as to invalidate any agreement (Section 5).

This law protects trade unions against action of tort and breach of contract or agreement or trust in pursuance of a trade dispute (Sections 7 and 8).

Property and Trustees: The Act provides for the property of the unions to be vested in trustees (trustees cannot hold office in the same union); for legal actions by or against trustees; and limitation of responsibility of trustees (Section 16-21).

F i n a n c i a l Accountability: The Act also requires every trea-

surer or other officer to render to the trustees, the members of the union at a duly constituted meeting of the union, a just and true account of monies received and paid, funds remaining, and all bonds and securities of the union.

The trustees are required to submit to the Auditor General for audit within fourteen days of the receipt of the account from the treasurer (Section 22).

This Trade Union Law further stipulates the requirements and conditions in relation to the registration of union rules; the registered office of the unions; withdrawal or cancellation of certificate of registration; change of union’s name; amalgamation of unions; registration of change of name and amalgamation; and dissolution of the union (Sections 2533).

Annual Return and Registrar’s Reports: Section 35 of the Act imposes an obligation on every registered trade union to present to the Registrar a general statement of receipts, funds, effects, and

expenditure before the 1st. of May in every year. The general statement must show fully the assets and liabilities of the preceding year, and must be prepared together with such information and in the manner stipulated in this Act. The Registrar of Trade Unions is required to lay before the National Assembly annual reports with respect to matters transacted by the Registrar, in keeping with the requirements of the Trade Unions Act. (Section 36).

Pertinent questions for public information should be for those with statutory responsibilities – the Registrar of Trade Unions; the Trade Unions and their Officers; the Trustees of Trade Unions; the Auditor General; the National Assembly.

Dear Editor, In April 2022, a Chinese national, Sun Shujun, the manager of a mine in the west of the country, was sentenced to 20 years in jail for torturing local mineworkers in Rwanda, after a video showing him whipping a man tied to a post went viral on social media. Another manager at the company, Ali Group Holding Ltd, was found guilty of helping Sun, and was sentenced to 12 years in jail.

“It is clear that (Sun) tortured the victims and issued corporal punishment with malicious intent, and this is a grave crime,” Judge Jacques Kanyarukiga ruled as he ordered him to serve a 20-year term in prison. The 43-year-old had argued for

his release, saying he compensated the two by paying a total of more than one million Rwandan francs ($1,000) and signing a “reconciliation letter”.

Now again the Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, has shown true patriotism when he ordered the permanent deportation of 18 Chinese nationals for mistreating Rwandan workers “We are not slaves anymore,” declared the Head of State, who went on to state, “Africa is for Africans, we won’t tolerate the nonsense of discrimination here.” Is there a lesson for Guyana here?

WIIN programme applications soar to 10,000 T

he Women’s Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN) programme registration numbers have soared to 10,000 applications countrywide. This is according to Human Services and Social Security Minister, Dr Vindhya Persaud.

On Wednesday, Persaud stated that there has been a significant increase in applicants for the WIIN since the opening of the programme’s registration portal on June

3.

“The response to WIIN has been overwhelming, thank you for choosing WIIN. the numbers have touched 10,000 and so it means that 10,000 persons…from across all of the regions have seized this opportunity to register for the WIIN programme,” she said.

WIIN is one of the Ministry’s flagship programmes, which was launched in Baramita, Region One (Barima-Waini),

in May of last year, to highlight the programme’s accessibility in hinterland areas.

Despite the high volume of applications, the Minister encouraged more women from the hinterland regions to apply.

“We would like to see so many more of you joining the WIIN family, those in Region Six, those in Region 10, those in the hinterland regions. Remember that we have a hybrid model programme, which allows you

dle contracts which often limits local businesses participating in the value chain.

The Commission will continue its advocacy to ensure that the Local Content law aids the utilisation of Guyanese goods and services and supports skills development and the training and employment of citizens,” the PSC said.

In fact, during a recent press conference, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo had spoken of foreign companies operating in Guyana who are consistently trying to beat the Local Content Act passed last year. Some of these manoeuvrings include the creation of shell companies and using some members of the Guyanese Diaspora to do so.

Questioned about this issue, especially since the fact that Lall only obtained a Guyanese passport in 2021 can be seen as a “convenience” to his entry here, Rampersad contended that this was not the case.

contemplating divesting the 51 per cent ownership stake to its Guyanese team before approaching Lall to invest.

“That was our original plan. So, before discussing anything with Deepak, that’s what we were originally planning to do. We had started to put everything in place… A few months ago, there was a lot of talk in the Guyanese media about companies trying to skim the [Local Content] law by giving shares to their employees.

So, at that point, we decided… that instead of divesting to our employees, let’s bring in a shareholder, get the additional capital and later on this year, we’ll put together an employee-share ownership plan,” Rampersad explained.

As it is, Ramps Logistics currently has a five-member Board of Directors, three of whom are Guyanese inclusive of Lall. Additionally, Rampersad disclosed that of the 400 employees of Ramps Logistics Guyana, only two others are foreigners. (G8)

There will be a second phase of WIIN and if those of you who would have applied within this first phase would not have been able to be accommodated, usually because of budgetary constraints, we will definitely look at you being a part of the WIIN programme in the second phase and also in the phase there will be a newer course added to this complement of courses.”

WIIN offers accredited

certificates in multiple disciplines from agencies such as ABMA UK, ROYTECH through the University of the West Indies, and the Institute of Distance and Continuing Education of the University of Guyana.

WIIN was conceptualised to provide women with the tools for financial stability and empowerment through accredited technical and vocational training courses.

Since the programme’s launch, 2170 women have been trained in multiple disciplines specific to the needs of their demographic area. Upon graduating from the WIIN programme, women are directed into entrepreneurship and provided with funding and other support services.

In Budget 2022, a sum of $173 million was allocated to advance courses offered through the WIIN programme. This has already seen new courses being introduced this year, with a number of Guyanese taking advantage to date.

The WINN courses include Graphics Design & Photography, Child Care, Care for the Elderly, Garment Construction, Home Management, and Television and Video Production.

Kitty youth wanted for setting couple on fire captured

wenty-four-year-old Christian Joseph, also known as “SonSon”, who has been wanted for allegedly setting fire to 22-year-old Sheldon Harry and his Venezuelan girlfriend during a row at Puruni Landing, Mazaruni River (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), has been apprehended on Thursday.

Based on reports re-

ceived, Joseph, of Kitty, Georgetown, was captured at about 04:00h on Thursday at ‘Top Side’ Puruni, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), and has been escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where he is expected to be questioned in relation to murder and attempted murder committed on Henry and his girlfriend on June 6.

It has been reported that, more than two weeks after the incident, Harry succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital. His girlfriend has reportedly been discharged after spending a few days in that medical facility.

It has been reported that on the day in question, an argument erupted between Joseph and his girlfriend, during which he threatened to harm her. In a bid to escape the man’s threats, the woman left her mining camp and went over to Harry’s camp, where she stayed the entire day.

While there, Joseph went over to Harry’s camp and continued to threaten the woman. Harry reportedly attempted to calm Joseph down, but the man instead left the camp and returned with a cutlass, and advanced toward his girlfriend.

At that time Harry intervened, and this angered the suspect. In retaliation, Joseph turned on Harry’s girlfriend and physically assaulted her. This, however, led to an argument between the two men, during which Joseph reportedly left

the camp, but later returned with a bucket of gasoline and a piece of stick that was already alight.

Upon seeing this, Harry and his girlfriend attempted to escape, but Joseph went after them. He reportedly cornered them, doused them with the gasoline, and set them on fire.

After realizing what he had done, the suspect reportedly turned around and started to throw sand on Harry with the aim of putting out the blaze. However, after seeing the severity of his friend’s burns, he escaped from the scene.

Harry and his girlfriend both sustaining burns about their bodies, but managed to make it to a pharmacy at the landing, from whence they were transported to the hospital in the community before being medevacked to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where they were admitted in a critical state.

Harry’s girlfriend had sustained injuries to her hands, chest, neck, and side, while Harry had received second and third-degree burns on about 80 per cent of his body.

re we to be governed by the laws of the land, or by the whims and predilections of the Opposition??

Seems that, before the Government does anything, they’re expected to consult with the Opposition! And your Eyewitness isn’t talking about those matters where the law (the Constitution) specifies consultation – meaningful or otherwise! And that’s the point, isn’t it?? The framers of the Constitution and laws already identified those aspects in running the state or Government that need the input of the Opposition.

That is, they identified matters that needed that wider legitimacy of all the representatives of the people coming aboard to make decisions. But this can’t include EVERYTHING!! If the Opposition have to sign off on every and any decision of the Government, then who’s going to govern?? Hasn’t the appointment of a permanent Chancellor and Chief Justice – which needs Opposition consent – illustrated how decisions will never be made??

Do we want to gridlock every area of national governance??

So, what brought on this tirade? The Opposition PNC and AFC’s insistence that they should be consulted by the President in establishing the CoI into the 2020 elections contretemps, that’s what!! So what does the law say about establishing CoIs?? It’s dealt with in Chapter 19:03 of the Laws of Guyana. And says very clearly under Art 2, “Power to issue Commission” as amended in 1972: “The president may issue a commission appointing one or more commissioners and authorising such commissioner or commissioners to inquire into any matter in which an inquiry would, in the opinion of the president, be for the public welfare.”

See that?? The legislators didn’t see the need for the Opposition to get involved, or else they would have changed the law since 1972!! Now, of course, since the matter to be inquired into is of such a critical nature, it would’ve been nice to have the Opposition aboard. But, in this case, it’s the actions of the Opposition in the 2020 elections that are the subject!! It’s like the defendant in a murder case (here democracy was being murdered!) being asked to choose which judge he wants to try his case!! Hey, but there’s a system in place for choosing judges, ain’t there? So, the defendant can’t cry violation of “due process”!! And in like manner, we have Chap 19:03 in place, which specifies the PRESIDENT to be constituting CoIs!!

And he’s shown, in his selection of the Commissioners, his commitment to impartiality!! Two had been chosen earlier by the Commonwealth!!

Let the chips (or the axe!) fall where they (or it) may!! …on Skeng?

When Burnham’s constitution created his “legal” dictatorship – giving himself more power than Kim Il Sung – he couldn’t help giving a dig to his bete noir, Cheddi Jagan.

He defined the latter’s position as “Minority Leader” rather than “Opposition Leader”! The joke, of course, was Cheddi’d been made “leader” through rigging, and his “opposition” merely served as window dressing to the world!!

Well, it seems that some of Burnham’s inheritors in the PNC have taken to giving themselves the self-flagellating title of “Shadow Minister” of this or that activity!! Are they a “shadow” of the substantive minister? In the matter at hand, it does certainly look like the Shadow Minister of Culture, Jermaine Figueira, is a shadow of the real Minister of Culture, Charles Ramson Jnr!! Maybe the Brits can pull “shadow” off because of their endemic obsequiousness – but not here!!

Anyhow, the PNC Shadow Culture fella thinks Robeson Benn shouldn’t have made Skeng – of Badderation and Gvnmas Shift fame – persona non grata in Guyana. He’s providing a “service”, and the Shadow boxer says CSME rules we gotta listen to his lyrics, whether we want to or not!!

“Series of interventions” planned in response to flooding – VP

he current spell of heavy rainfall followed by flooding across communities will be addressed through a series of interventions planned by Government to offer relief.

Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo acknowledged the unusually heavy episode of rainfall currently being experienced in Guyana, resulting in flooding across numerous areas. This, he noted, is actively being addressed by Government to alleviate the burden on affected stakeholders.

“We have made several interventions to alleviate

A comprehensive update provided by the Civil Defence Commission (CDC), indicated that water was receding in certain areas, but rising in others.

Special attention will be paid to Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) and Region 10 (Upper DemeraraBerbice), where many communities are flooded.

Region Seven has reported a high-water level as a result of the overtopping of the Cuyuni River, and

the problems that people are faced with. We’re very conscious of the difficulties people have in their communities with infrastructure and with livelihoods…The Government is planning a series of interventions in these areas. As much as we can do, we cannot prevent the water from the rivers rising and flooding some of these areas, but we’re going to work on alleviating the concerns of the residents and helping them,” the Vice President outlined in a press conference this week.

This week, Prime Minister, Retired Brigadier Mark Phillips issued a statement, which indicated that along with assessing the affected communities, Government, through its respective agencies, would deliver food hampers, sanitation hampers, purification tablets, and collapsible one-gallon bottles.

The Health Ministry officials will be available to deal with any flood-related or waterborne disease.

Chenapau in Region Eight is enduring a similar situation owing to the overtopping of rivers there. Reports from Region Nine (Upper TakutuUpper Essequibo) informed that more than 180 households and 15 farms have been impacted by flooding.

Meanwhile, in Region 10, Rockstone and Speightland are also affected, while reports from Kwakwani indicate that the Berbice River was approximately two feet above the river bank, which has resulted in more than 200 households being affected.

Parts of Regions One, Three, Five and Six are also impacted by the large volume of water.

To alleviate the problems, Central Government; the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) and regional bodies have been clearing drains and canals, repairing and maintaining pumps and kokers, and relocating livestock.

Since the beginning of May, Guyana has been sub-

jected to increased rainfall.

However, this had not resulted in any major accumulation of water or flooding until recent weeks.

The Hydrometeorological Service had predicted that there would be above-normal rainfall conditions over most of Guyana between May and July. The forecast for this period indicates that the highest rainfall totals and the possibility of flash flooding were expected to peak in May and June.

The last major occurrence of inundation was in June 2021, when torrential rains resulted in mass flooding countrywide. Over 50,000 households were affected, leading Government to activate a combination of relief measures and grants for farmers, residents, and other affected persons. (G12)

Teen mom among 4 remanded for drug trafficking

teenaged mother of a 10-month-old baby was among four persons remanded to prison on Thursday for trafficking in narcotics. The quartet appeared at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh.

Lilwattie Sookram, called Babita, 51, a vendor of Rose Hall and Sherifa Ali, 18, a mother of a 10-monthold baby, both of Lot 113 New Market Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice – along with Delcon Potter, called “Kartel”, 39, of Lot 1 Glasgow, East Bank Berbice (EBB) and Rajin Saloop, called “Terrence”, 32, of Edinburgh, EBB – pleaded not guilty to the charge of trafficking.

They are accused of trafficking in excess of 2.5 kilograms of marijuana.

of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis was found. When weighed, they amounted to 2.7 kg.

Police Prosecutor Phouene Simpson told the court that the two females confessed in a statement which was videorecorded, stating that they received the bag from one of the now-arrested men.

The women are being represented by Attorney Rian Crawford while the men are being represented

by Attorney Stacy Goodings.

Crawford told the court that the women received a sealed package and did not know what was in it.

On the other hand, Goodings told the court that her clients did not know the two women, noting that the

Police are claiming that the drug was found on Strand, New Amsterdam while her clients were arrested at their private homes.

However, the Prosecutor told the court that during the confession, the females told the Police that it was Potter, who gave them the package. The Prosecutor said that Potter also confessed during a video-recorded interview that he collected the package from Saloop to drop it off to the women.

The matter has been transferred to the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and continues today.

Berbice duo jailed for trafficking $1.6M worth of ganja

wo men were sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by the same Magistrate for trafficking 5.3 kilograms of marijuana.

Twenty-year-old Kevon Sandy of Republic Drive, West Canje, Berbice and Prince Todd, of Sandvoort, West Canje, pleaded guilty to trafficking the drug, which

had a street value of approximately $1.6 million.

They appeared at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court.

On June 21, drug enforcement officers attached to the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) conducted an operation at Sandvoort during which they intercepted the two males. One of them was

uyana has been selected to facilitate the South-South knowledge exchange for the Pan-Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) - the mechanism that provides a structured and unified approach to the Caribbean’s response to the HIV epidemic.

The country has been chosen because of the progress made by the National Aids Programme Secretariat (NAPS) in Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and HIV self-testing (HIVST) implementation, and the wealth of experience to be shared with the region.

Guyana is one of the first countries in the region to have achieved the ‘First 90’. At the end of 2020, 94 per cent of people living with HIV knew their status.

Guyana has also made significant progress in delivering PrEP to key populations; the NAPS has developed PrEP guidelines, trained clinicians, and developed systems. PrEP is available at 15 public, private and CSO locations.

HIV-self testing is in the pilot phase, and Guyana’s testing algorithm has been validated. Kits can be accessed from four public, private and CSO locations.

In addition, the NAPS has plans to scale up and make more sites accessible.

The South-South knowledge exchange is part of PANCAP’s overarching strategy to enhance the skills of

National AIDS programme technical teams and CSO representatives in implementing PrEP and HIVST. The South-South Knowledge exchange will be facilitated in Georgetown next week under funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and will focus on Guyana’s experience in implementing PrEP and HIV HIVST. The countries participating in the learning exchange event are Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Jamaica, and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Eight persons from these four countries would participate in the exchange, including National AIDS Programme (NAP) managers and clinical care coordinators, HIV clinicians and civil society organisation (CSO) representatives who work closely with the national programme in the implementation of PrEP, HIVST, and other aspects of

hensive HIV services in the community and to key populations.

She also explained that site visits would be conducted to public, private and community clinics, where participants would have the opportunity to interact with clinic staff.

“This will allow participants to understand how the PrEP service delivery and HIVST are organised and delivered, the number and skill set of the clinical team, and other resources available for supporting service delivery,” Dr Singh-Anthony has stated.

In addition, participants would interact with the beneficiaries of the clinics, particularly KPs. There will also be opportunities for participants to accompany the NAP and CSO teams to community outreaches to identify and recruit KPs for HIV prevention, HIVST and PrEP. (G12)

31-year-old woman of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was on Wednesday arrested following the discovery of 219.2 grams of cannabis hidden under a pile of wood in her yard.

Ranks led by a Superintendent of Police were conducting an operation in the area when they made contact with the woman, who was in her yard at the time. The ranks requested to carry out a search on the woman’s premises, and she consented.

The Police have said that a search of the house unearthed nothing of evidential value, but a further search in the yard, between a pile of wood alongside the house, revealed a bulky black plastic bag contain-

While being cautioned, the woman admitted to selling the suspected cannabis, saying to one of the ranks, “Officer, can I trust you? I does sell lil lil weed here. A boy does drop it, but me done deh in trouble, so

The woman was arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed and amounted to 219.2 grams.

The woman is presently in custody, pending charges.

12-year-old busted with ganja in class Region 1 records 22% reduction in serious crimes A

he Commander of Regional Division One, Superintendent Himnauth Sawh, has revealed that the region has seen a 22 per cent reduction in serious crimes when compared to the same period last year.

His revelation was made during a recent episode of the Guyana Police Force Programme “Police and You”.

“With respect to crime, I can tell you (that), from January to date, we are operating (with) a 2 per cent reduction in serious crimes as compared to the same period last year,” he declared.

The Commander has also revealed that the region has seen a 54.5 percent decrease in cases of rape, which was one of the prevalent crimes in the division during the year prior.

“Rape, which use to be a sensational crime, and continues to be sensational, has (been) reduced by 54.5 per cent for the year 2022, as compared to 2021. If I’m to go a little further, in 2020, a total of 6 rapes were reported; for 2021, a total of 22 rapes. We do appreciate that because of the sensitisation programmes which were initiated, that caused several persons to have the confidence in the Police, and to report their matters to us.

“Two cases have been made so far in terms of convictions,” he explained.

The Commander has said that these incidents were at high rates due to victims’ lack of confidence in the Police Force.

“One of the things that contributed to this scourge was the fact that what existed before was an image of the Force that was not fully appreciated by the people, and that could have been resulted because (of) unprofessionalism, excessive use of force, intimidation, and many other factors,” he said.

However, with their new training initiatives and engagements with the citizen-

ry of the region, trust and confidence have been restored in the Police.

“But I can assure (that), with the leadership of our Commissioner of Police currently in the administration, it ensures that stimulate greater community partnership. The confidence has been restored because Police are no longer sitting in their offices and are waiting for people to come to be served.

We are leaving the comforts of our office, we are going into the various communities, we are walking grounds, we are interacting with the people, we are selling a positive image (of) the Force,” Commander Sawh has said.

Further, he related that plans for the region would see the continued reduction of these offences.

he Central Immigration and Passport Office on Thursday informed that its operations have been affected by a delay in the shipment of materials used to print passports.

A statement from the Guyana Police Force has informed that the COVID-19 pandemic and other recent world events have caused the disruption of countless supply chains, and the Central Immigration and Passport Office has been affected by this disruption in the supply chain of materials. “The delayed shipment is expected here in late August, after which normalcy will prevail. While the delay is inevitable, the Central Immigration and Passport Office remains unwavering in its commitment to work

assiduously to ensure that things are back to normal in the shortest possible time,” the statement has relayed.

Additionally, the public is being informed that the Passport Office “continues to provide passport and other immigration document services; however, it is attempting to do so within the normal time frame of five working days”.

Presently, there are passport offices at Linden in Region 10 (Upper DemeraraBerbice) and at New

Amsterdam in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).

Lethem, Mabaruma, Anna Regina, Bartica and Mahdia have been the latest regional passport offices announced

by Government in a bid to decentralise these services.

Last year there was a surge in persons visiting the Central Office for passport services, where over 200 persons were being attended to daily. During that period, hundreds of persons were seen queuing outside the facility. (G12)

12-year-old female student of a school in Bartica, Region Seven, (Cuyuni Mazaruni) was on Wednesday found with a quantity of cannabis concealed in her socks while attending classes.

According to reports received, at about 13:00h on Wednesday, June 22, the headteacher reportedly received complaints that students were in possession of ganja in class, and this prompted her to carry out random checks, during which she unearthed two transparent Ziplock bags containing the cannabis hidden in the student’s socks.

Upon being questioned, the student revealed that she got the drug from a female classmate, who claimed to have stolen it from her father.

When contacted, the father in question admitted the narcotics belonged to him, since he would indulge in smoking “weed”.

The students were questioned and were scheduled to meet with the Childcare and Protection Agency on Thursday. The father is being questioned by the Police.

Singh noted that his unit has welcomed the collaboration with the joint services to ensure that the schools are rid of drugs, especially ecstasy pills. In the past, those pills have been found in secondary schools.

Singh had stated that several new types of drugs are surfacing in society, and CANU would make every effort to get rid of them before the situation escalates.

“So, we’re working with the Ministry of Education and other agencies to sensitise and to develop a programme that allows us to go into various schools around the region (in order to) sen-

sitise persons about the effects of narcotics,” he divulged.

Further, he said, the community, and more so the teachers, would play a crucial role in assisting CANU to implement the initiative.

“So it’s not only about working with the students, but also working with the teachers. They must also be able to see the behavioural patterns of persons; that gives us a better idea if persons are on drugs or something else, so we can work with them also,” Singh explained.

The CANU Head added that CANU and the sectoral agencies have been doing some work in several communities, and he implored citizens to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of drug traffickers in their respective communities.

“We’re doing a lot of work in various communities, and the aim here is to target persons who are engaged in selling narcotics, regardless of where, whether it is close by a school or even in that community itself; and that’s why again I will ask: if you know persons are engaged in selling narcotics within your community anywhere, let us know confidentially, and we will take the necessary action,” Singh pleaded.

A

startling 140 new coronavirus infections have surfaced as of Thursday from 1263 test samples that were processed.

This data was released by the Health Ministry in its latest dashboard, reflecting a rise in confirmed cases to 66,835 – 30,662 males and 36,662 females.

With the death toll remaining at 1249, there are two patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 16 in institutional isolation, and 830 in home isolation. There is no one under institutional quarantine.

Active cases have reached close to 850.

Recoveries stand at 64,738 – 147 of which were reported

within one day.

A breakdown of the new cases shows five in Region One (Barima-Waini), eight in Region Two (PomeroonSupenaam), six in Region Three (Essequibo IslandsWest Demerara), 51 in Region Four (DemeraraMahaica), one in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), 62 in Region Six (East Berbice-

Corentyne), one in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), one in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) and five in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).

Only Region Eight (Potaro-Suparuni) saw no new infections. To date, a total of 655,331 tests have been conducted across the 10 administrative regions.

The latest vaccination figures show that so far, more than 443,177 or 86.4 per cent of adults have taken a first dose, while some 342,918 or 66.8 per cent are fully vaccinated. In addition, in excess of 67,500 persons have returned for their third-dose booster shots thus far.

For adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17, just over 25,500 or 35 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Vaccination is also available

for children between the ages of five and 11s, hundreds of whom have already received a first dose.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) , about 537 million confirmed cases were reported globally along with 6.3 million deaths.

In the Region of the Americas, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is recorded as more than 160 million with a death toll of 2.7 million.

On Thursday, the Organisation outlined that while most people who develop COVID-19 fully recover, an estimated 10 per cent to 20 per cent of victims experience a variety of mid- and long-term effects, collectively known as post COVID-19 condition or “long COVID”. This can be prevented with vaccination and

timely booster shots.

It further related that although post COVID-19 condition is more common in patients who developed the severe form of the disease, there are reports of individuals who had moderate illness experiencing some after-effects, mainly respiratory, neurological, and psychological. Post COVID-19 functional impairment can limit a person’s ability to perform daily activities, including work or household chores. It can also impact professional performance and hinder social interaction.

Minor among several charged in lottery scam bust in J’ca, 5 high-end vehicles seized

even persons, including a minor, have been taken into custody and five high-end motor vehicles seized following a major joint Police/military operation in Great Pond, St Ann on Thursday.

The operation forms part of the authorities’ crackdown on lottery scamming across Jamaica.

According to a release, three BMW motor cars, one Mark X and one Toyota

Crown were seized during the raid. Ten cellular phones and two laptops were also seized.

Reports are that between 05:00h and 09:00h, a joint Police/military operation led by the Lottery Scam Task Force, searched several homes at the Great Pond Estate in the parish.

Several of those in custody have been charged for breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions)

Act and for possession of identity information.

Among those charged are a 27-year-old businessman, two 22-year-old men, and a 17-year-old. All are from the parish of St Ann. The other people in custody are to be questioned by the Police.

il prices dropped by nearly US$2 a barrel on Thursday after another round of remarks from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell fanned worries US interest rate hikes would slow economic growth.

Brent crude futures settled at US$110.05 a barrel, falling US$1.69, or 1.5 per cent. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures settled at US$104.27 a barrel, down US$1.92, or 1.8 per cent.

Powell said the Fed's focus on curbing inflation was "unconditional" and the labour market was unsustainably strong, comments that stoked fears of more rate hikes.

Investors have been paring positions in risky assets as they assess whether inflation-fighting central banks could push the world economy into recession with higher interest rates.

"If the US, and the rest of the world goes into a recession, you can significantly impact demand," said Houston oil consultant Andrew Lipow.

Also, high gasoline prices could be starting to slow demand, said Robert Yawger, director of energy futures at Mizuho in New York.

"That's definitely worked its way into the conversation," said Yawger, adding he thought gasoline still had room to rise.

US retail prices are currently averaging US$4.94 a gallon, down about 10 cents from the peak, according to AAA. Major US oil refiners and Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm emerged from an emergency meeting over the issue with no concrete solutions to lower prices, according to a source familiar with the discussions, but the two sides agreed to work together. r The most recent estimates by the American Petroleum Institute (API), according to market sources, showed US crude and gasoline inventories rising last week, which also weighed on prices, Yawger said.

Official weekly estimates for US oil inventories were scheduled to be released on Thursday, but technical problems will delay those figures until next week, the US Energy Information Administration said, without giving a specific timeline.

The Organisation of Petroleum-Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allied producing countries, including Russia, will likely stick to a plan for accelerated output increases in August in hopes of easing crude prices and inflation as US President Joe Biden plans to visit Saudi Arabia, sources said.

The group known as OPEC+ agreed at its last meeting on June 2 to boost output by 648,000 barrels a day in July, or seven per cent of global demand, and by the same amount in August, up from the initial plan to add 432,000 bpd a month over three months until September. (Reuters)

razil's Government is mulling a measure to increase its Auxilio Brasil welfare programme, in addition to raising the amount paid in gas vouchers and creating a fuel aid for truckers, the Government's leader in the Senate said on Thursday.

The increase in the programme – to 600 reais (US$114.96) – would be part of a strategy by President Jair Bolsonaro's Government to boost social spending ahead of elections in October. The latest opinion poll showed Bolsonaro with 28 per cent of voters' support compared with 47 per cent for former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

"There is a discussion about the possibility of increasing the welfare programme by 200 reais [US$38.32) temporarily until the end of the year," said Senator Carlos Portinho in an interview after a meeting with party leaders.

According to Portinho, the intention is to allow those expenditures to bypass a constitutional spending cap due to the war in Ukraine and rising fuel prices, which are pressuring double-digit inflation in Latin America's largest economy. ight medical personnel who treated Diego Maradona prior to his death will stand trial for alleged criminal neglect.

On Wednesday, a judge in Argentina ordered a culpable homicide trial for the individuals, including Maradona's family doctor and nurses, with evidence they failed to take "action that could have prevented the death" in November 2020.

The Argentina and Napoli icon died at the age of 60 while recovering from a blood clot, which came after years of battling with cocaine and alcohol addictions.

Maradona was found dead two weeks after the procedure in a rented house in Buenos Aires, where he was brought after being discharged from hospital, having suffered a heart attack.

uyana will be among eight (8) countries participating in the 3x3 Basketball event at the inaugural Caribbean Games, scheduled from June 29th to July 3rd, 2022 in Guadeloupe.

The Guyana Basketball Federation (GABF) has announced a four-member team that will compete in four 3x3 Basketball at the Gymnase de Boisripeaux in Les Abymes.

The Caribbean Games are being organised by the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC). The five-day meet fulfills the dreams of sports leaders in the Caribbean to organise multisport games for the region. The Southern Games, staged over a decade ago in Guaracara Park, Trinidad, featured only Athletics and Cycling. The Caribbean Games, however, will feature seven disciplines – Athletics, 3x3 Basketball, Cycling, Futsal, Judo, Swimming, and Netball, with demonstrations of handisport and e-sport.

The Guyana 3x3 Basketball U23 National Team will be led by team captain Stanton Rose,

and would include Timothy Thompson, Yonnick Tappin, and Kimol Grimmond. The Head of the 3x3 Basketball Delegation will be the GABF Youth and 3x3 Coordinator Ms. Sileena Arjune.

All four players, along with the 3x3 Coordinator, returned from Suriname yesterday after successfully securing their French visas, which would allow them to enter the French territory of Guadeloupe.

The GABF organised four (4) friendly games against the Suriname 3x3 U23 National Team, and Guyana defeated Suriname 3-1. Guyana lost game one 15-22, but bounced back by handing Suriname three consecutive losses: 21-11, 18-7 and 18-16.

GABF Secretary-General Mr. Patrick Haynes said, “A Caribbean-oriented multisports event was a long time in the making, and we at the GABF are pleased to see that it is finally set to become a reality this month. These Games will afford our athletes an opportunity to compete against the region's elite athletes, and provide another valuable opportunity for them to gain international

experience in competition."

The National Teams were previously placed in pairs, taking into account their FIBA 3x3 U23 Caribbean Ranking position. Then the teams and their spot were drawn to define the matchups. Here’s how the groups were aligned: Group A: 1. Guyana (5) 2. Saint Lucia (7) 3. Cuba (13) 4. Guadeloupe (UR) Group B: 1. Dominican Republic (1) 2. Puerto Rico (2) 3. Suriname (6) 4. Jamaica (10) The top two teams from each group would advance to the semi-finals, while the rest would compete for the 5-8 spots.

In the semi-finals, the top two teams from each group will face the second team of each opposing group (1A vs 2B and 1B vs 2A).

he Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is set to be played between August 30 and September 30, with matches in St Kitts, St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. On Wednesday, CPL and Cricket West Indies launched the 6IXTY, the newest format of cricket, which will play between August 24-28.

In an exclusive interview with CPL Head of Marketing, Chris Watson, he related that the CPL draft details would be announced very soon, and noted that the innovative 60-ball tournament, which will be played in St Kitts this year, would also come to Guyana in the future, and attract new audiences.

"The essence of the 6IXTY is to create more opportunities.

CPL has been a big success in giving West Indians and overseas

players a big platform to perform in front of a global audience and deliver benefits to the countries the tournament is being hosted.

The 6IXTY is another way of doing that. We noticed the cricket is getting longer and slower, so the ideal is that the 6IXTY can capture younger audience," Watson said.

When asked what has been the response from overseas and local players, Watson said: "The response has been great. We are looking at 85-90% synergy with the CPL tournament squads and the 6IXTY. There will be a few players with clashes and inavailability, but a really strong roster of players both West Indian and overseas is expected.

This season, more emphasis is being placed on women's cricket, with Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and Trinbago Knight Riders introducing women teams.

These ladies will also be playing in the 60-ball tournament.

"The staging, broadcasting, and everything that we present for the men we want to throw… at the ladies, so we are excited to have the women involved. This is just the first step, and we want to grow this every year," he said.

The CPL Head of Marketing, also disclosed that CPL wants more locations for the 6IXTY, which is more of a condensed weekend of cricket festivals. He also noted that this tournament will have more players available because of the condensed nature.

"Primarily, we want to grow it in the Caribbean, and then see where we can take it," Watson has said.

In terms of the muchanticipated draft, Watson said: "I think we will be announcing that very soon. Fans will not have to wait too much longer. I know that is a big level of interest for fans. We want to make sure we got the announcement of the 6IXTY out of the way, and will be announcing the draft soon.

Fans will not have to wait much longer, they will have all the relevant information about all the teams, schedule, ticketing, so they can plan look forward to the tournament," Watson explained.

The contests between Uitvlugt Secondary and Ann’s Grove Secondary and North Ruimveldt Secondary taking on East Ruimveldt Secondary were pushed to Wednesday, owing to the inclement weather that prevailed on Sunday last. The youngsters made the game worth the wait with thrilling, narrow-margin finishes.

When Ann’s Grove and Uitvlugt battled, Isaiah Alphonso was the first man to find the back of the net, giving Ann’s Grove a 1-0 advantage.

It was not until the 30th minute that the reply came from Uitvlugt, but the West Coast Demerara (WCD) team did one better, netting three goals in the span of 6 minutes to take and unsurmountable lead.

Rockliff Anderson found the back of the net twice, in the 30th and 36th, while his teammate Germaine Cummings scored in the 31st to push the score to 3-1.

However, Ann’s Grove refused to go down without a fight. Naron Jerrick scored in the 43rd, while their third goal came off the boots of Alphonso, to level the scores in the 47th.

Ann’s Grove’s finishing came into question then, as they missed out on a number of opportunities to get ahead once again. Eventually, it was Anderson completing his hat trick in the 64th, that spurred Uitvlugt to the 4-3 victory.
