At the launch of the pageant, the delegates all indicated that they are an intelligent bunch and were ready for stiff competition. They all possess charm, swag and uniqueness which they will use to win the judges’ hearts and more so, the audience.

uyanese who are lovers of rock music will have the opportunity to party the night away this evening at Palm Court, Main Street, Georgetown as the Black Rose Band out of Trinidad performs live.

The band has performed before in Guyana and managed to captivate the hearts of their audience after their electrifying performances.

The Black Rose Band is more or less a contemporary rock band which has made over 2500 appearances at shows both locally (in Trinidad) and international.

The members of the band are Bobby Ramdeem – vocals; Alan Tiah – bass and vocals; Ian Joseph – drums and Allan Reece plays the guitars and vocals.

ll arrangements are in place for the hosting of Pulse Entertainment’s Cooler Fete and it is expected to be off the hook.

The event is a day into night fete featuring an all-star cast of some of the best international soca artistes and live FIFA World Cup quarter-final matches on 15X20 foot LED screens that will be placed around the Everest Cricket Club ground.

Football fever fused with sweet soca music, local foods and sexy cheer leaders will definitely give you the Cooler bacchanal experience of a lifetime on Saturday, July 5.

The first game k i c k s off at 13:00h, s o stock those coolers, l i n k t h e c r e w and fete all day.

Then when the sun sets, it’s time to witness live performances

from soca superstars, Jaiga TC, Nadia Batson, Karma Band and Shal Marshal, along with the Black Rose Band and guest DJs Parliament and X-Bass.

Admission to the fete costs $3000 in advance and $5000 at the gate, with all coolers – regulation size for the coolers is two feet by three feet or less – being allowed into the venue free of cost. No glass bottles will be allowed into the venue and patrons are asked not to put ice in the coolers upon entry.

For the VIP experience, patrons will pay $6000 in advance and $10,000 at the gate.

AMZONE Ten beauties are confirmed to participate in the Miss Jamzone International Pageant slated for August 15 at the National Cultural Centre. These delegates include several from the Caribbean, a few from North America and Guyana’s very own Soyini Fraser.

The delegates will be competing in several competitions such as talent, display of national costumes, intelligence, photo shoots and others.

Guyana Times Entertainment will be featuring delegates of the 2014 Miss Jamzone International Pageant in the coming weeks. This week, we are pleased to introduce Miss Jamaica Joanna Sadler and Miss St Vincent and the Grenadines Aphesha Matthews

t 23 years old, Joanna Sadler holds an admirable position as a Real Estate Agent while still pursuing studies and boasts her most proud moment as graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Studies with honours.

Sadler said she would like to see Jamaica draw more from the culture of its people rather than focus primarily on promoting the beauty of its environment, opining that Jamaicans have a unique way of life which is very vibrant and worthy of being translated into a product for tourists.

She further stated that she is mostly proud of her Jamaican brothers and sisters who she thinks can achieve anything with the right mindset. “There are so many famous Jamaican actors/actresses, musicians, artists, athletes, inventors and scientists… and they all make me proud to be Jamaican,” she stated, recognising Usain Bolt, Tessanne Chin, Bob Marley and Professor Louis Grant.

phesha Matthews, 22, is currently a fulltime student pursing an Accounting career and has a passion for pageantry! She said she was drawn to the Miss Jamzone Pageant as it is a tourism based competition and being a Vincentian, she knows the talent which exists in these parts but have no platform to be showcased.

It is in this regard, she said, she would like to see development within the tourism sector of her country. “I would like tourism to develop an avenue to accommodate those individuals. In return, tourists can see that we have more to offer than just our festival celebrations,” she pointed out.

Matthews noted that her country consists some of of the most historical islands in the Caribbean and she plans on using this to her advantage come pageant night. In her spare time, Miss St Vincent and the Grenadines enjoys a good game of netball, football or cricket with her friends or listening to her favourite genre of music, soca.

reparations are moving apace for the hosting of 2014’s Emancipation celebrations, and from all indications, the African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) is making sure that this year’s is the biggest compared to the others.

As is customary, the celebrations are slated for the National Park on August 1. The theme for the celebrations this year is ‘Broken Chains… Golden Dreams.’ The African nation of Angola will be highlighted while the village of Queenstown on the Essequibo Coast will be featured during the celebrations.

Performing in Guyana for the first time at the Emancipation celebrations will be a group from Angola who are expected to perform several African dances, mimes, acrobatics, magic acts and other entertaining pieces. There will also be other international and local performers entertaining those in attendance.

Kross Kolor hits the National Park tarmac this year with ‘Centre Stage’, filled with dynamic performances from local performers. There will also be a number of competitions in sport, cooking, folk games, Best African wear, drumming and others.

uyana’s most popular comedian Kirk “Chow Pow’ Jardine has of late been flying the Golden Arrowhead high on stages in Barbados and Saint Maarten.

Chow Pow began his stand up career in 2005 at the Guyana Upscale Restaurant, and has since been performing throughout the length and breadth of Guyana. The Guyanese comedian first wowed his Barbadian audience on June 8 when he performed at the Laugh Out Loud Caribbean Comedy show at the Sir Garfield Stadium in Barbados along with the likes of Errol Fabien, Trevor Eastman, Ity and Fancy Cat and McFingal.
