Rainbow Beach Boomerang Bags

Rainbow Beach Library: Mondays at 1.30pm

Rainbow Beach Boomerang Bag Sewing Group meet MOST Mondays from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. This small group sews their hearts out to help reduce the use of plastic bags, by providing reusable cloth bags made from recycled, donated fabric. For more information please phone Rainbow Beach Library.

Gympie Library: second Friday of every month at 10am Want to try 3D Printing but thought it looked too hard? Then come to one of our free learn-to-print sessions. Laser Engraver Introduction

Gympie Library: fourth Friday of every month at 10am

The Emblazer Laser machine engraves and cuts a range of materials including wood and metal. This training session will guide members through basic operating procedures, software, and safety precautions for the successful use of the machine. Spaces are limited so booking is essential.

Queensland’s Sugar King: The Zammit Legacy

Gympie Library: Friday 14 June, 10am-11am

In this extraordinary rags-to-riches story, an illiterate and impoverished Maltese immigrant rises from destitution to become Queensland’s ‘Sugar King’. Join author Catherine Smith as she shares a look into the journey of Paul and Pauline Zammit and how they helped to shape the history of the state. Catherine was born in Gympie in 1961 and is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Brisbane College of Advanced Education, James Cook University, Victorian University and Deakin University. Sustainable Saturdays – Homemade Cheese Making

In a world where we are bombarded constantly with how to be more resilient, it can feel exhausting having to constantly ‘tough it out’. Leigh, a Queensland paramedic with 15 years of experience, has a different take. How to have poise. How to flourish under pressure. How to be calm when faced with stress. How to thrive in the face of adversity.

Armchair Travellers – Antalya, Turkey

Gympie Library: Thursday 27 June at 5pm

This Turkish city is located in a fertile coastal plain at the foot of the Taurus Mountains. It entices you with a mix of beautiful long beaches and traditional Turkish culture. The old town is especially worth a virtual sightseeing.

Admire the famous Hadrian’s Gate, which was built for Roman Emperor Hadrian’s visit and is still the only preserved city gate today. And do you know the landmark of Antalya? It is the 13th Century Yivli Minare Mosque with its minaret visible from afar. We also take a virtual trip to the Turkish Riviera. Bookings are essential.

Benjamin Stevenson is an award-winning stand-up comedian and author. His first novel, Greenlight, was shortlisted for the Ned Kelly Award for Best Debut Crime Fiction, and his second novel, Either Side of Midnight, was shortlisted for the International Thriller Writers Award for Best Original Paperback. Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone, his third novel, was a huge bestseller and has so far been sold in 27 territories around the world. It will soon be adapted into a major HBO TV series. Armchair Travellers – Florence, Tuscany

Gympie Library: Thursday 25 July at 5pm

The capital of the Tuscany region is world-famous for its history. In the late Middle Ages, it was one of the most prosperous cities in Europe. Thanks to the powerful Medici dynasty, it became a centre for fine arts, culture and science.

As the home of the Renaissance style, it also has a great architectural heritage. The historic centre, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the numerous palaces, monuments and churches will overwhelm you. Bookings are essential.
