Gympie Regional Libraries are supporting Gympie Region residents to collectively reduce their energy use, tackle climate change, and build a cleaner renewable energy future.

A kit is now available to residents to help reduce utility bills and cut household greenhouse gas emissions. The kit will identify where you can improve the efficiency of your home, helping you save money, make your home more comfortable and reduce your carbon emissions.

The Emblazer Laser machine is utilized for the high-quality engraving and cutting of wood and other materials. Author Talk with Kristina Ross*

Gympie Library: Friday 14 February, 10am - 11am

Kristina Ross is a writer and producer for the stage and screen. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts and a recipient of the Queensland Theatre's Young Playwrights Award, she has had the pleasure of working as an actor for the Melbourne Theatre Company, Red Stitch Actors' Theatre, the Artisan Collective and the ABC. Gympie Library: Friday 14 February, 1pm - 2.30pm

Join us at Gympie Library for a real page turner of an event. The Queensland Bookbinders’ Guild will be showcasing how to bind your own books as well as discussing the skills and equipment you will need to get started. The Queensland Bookbinders' Guild was formed in 1977 with the aim to promote, foster and practice the art of bookbinding in its traditional form and to embrace the related graphic and kindred arts. So, if you have ever wondered about the history of bookbinding or how to get started this is the session for you. Bookings are essential.

Sustainable Saturdays – Create a Native Garden*

Gympie Library: Saturday 15 February, 11am-12.30pm

In this presentation we will explore 3 styles of "native" garden that everyone can apply to their own garden. It may even be a combination will be applicable to you as they do blend and crossover. Rainforest. Dry Native. And Habitat. We will look at soil preparation, location choice, plant selections, waterwise tips and how to attract wildlife and create a safe haven for them. Join author Geoff Kelly as he talks about his book Life’ s Long Road. There have been many bumps and turns on his life's trail, with many straight runs and good times too. Page Turners - Margaret Hickey

Gympie Library: Thursday 20 February, 5.30pm - 6.30pm

Margaret Hickey is an award-winning author and playwright from North East Victoria. She has a PhD in Creative Writing and is deeply interested in rural lives and communities. She is the author of the bestsellers Cutters End, Stone Town, Broken Bay and The Creeper. Her collection of short stories, Rural Dreams, about country life was released in January 2025. Armchair Travellers – Svartisen Glacier Trail

Join us on an exhilarating live virtual tour along the historical trail of Svartisen Glacier in Norway. Together, we'll marvel at breathtaking scenic views while our guide shares fascinating insights into the area's rich history and unique environment. Gympie Regional Libraries SEED Library

The Gympie Regional Libraries Seed Library has been created to encourage and engage the community to create a more sustainable lifestyle. The Seed Library is free and open to anyone with a library membership. Similar to your usual library borrowing experience, a seed library allows our community to “borrow” seeds from the library to grow and enjoy at home. Grab one seed packet for every five books you borrow.

Seed packets can be found at all Gympie Regional Libraries branches during opening hours

Take your new seeds home to grow by following the information on each packet. Gympie Regional Libraries also has a variety of gardening books and magazines available to assist you in creating your very own garden to enjoy and inspire.

Taking a wildlife-friendly approach, Tanya Loos provides practical information, advice and solutions, based on current guidance from wildlife rescue organisations and the latest research. Tanya’s latest book “Living with Wildlife” features helpful advice on wildlife rescue, both for every day and during extreme weather events, as well as common issues such as feeding wildlife, pets and driving safely on roads. As urbanisation and climate change effects intensify, Australian wildlife need our help now more than ever, making this a timely guide for successfully living alongside our wild neighbours. Tanya Loos is an ecologist, educator and science communicator living in central Victoria, who is passionate about wildlife.
