Makerspace Up Late

Would you like some extra support as you get started with the Makerspace equipment? During these sessions, a Makerspace staff member will be on hand to assist you with your project and answer your equipment questions. You can also print 3D models that take longer than 3 hours, provided you bring in your own filament and design.

Page Turners – Scott Ryder
Gympie Library: Thursday 19 September at 5.30pm
Scott Ryder served for 22 years with the Australian Army, including 16 years as an operator with the 2nd Commando Regiment. He served in East Timor and multiple tours of Afghanistan and Iraq. He holds numerous commendations and a Master of Business, and he works in veteran charities to improve the life of veterans and their families.
Join us as Scott talks about his new book Forged in Fire, which takes us inside the secretive world of the commandos. Ryder shares battlefield stories from his tours to Afghanistan, where his regiment saw some of the heaviest fighting Australian forces have experienced since the Vietnam War. After being seriously injured in a shocking Black Hawk helicopter crash in Kandahar, he was the only survivor to return to active service. Bookings are essential.

Armchair Travellers – Milan

The perfect tour to have a first glimpse of Milan or to deepen your understanding of its culture and life. We will start at Piazza Scala, with a particular focus on Scala Opera House, the real temple of music. Walking through the first shopping mall in the world you will reach the real symbol of the city; the Duomo Cathedral. This church has been the heart of Milan since 1386. We will focus on its history and the most interesting details, such as the fascinating architecture made of shiny marble and thousands of statues. Koalas are part of the wonderful biodiversity of the Gympie region, which makes us custodians of Australia’s most loved and iconic wildlife species. The koala is an important part of Australia’s natural and cultural heritage and is Queensland’s fauna emblem.
