W. ShakEspeare:
Rómeó és Júlia Romeo AND Juliet Két nagy család élt a szép Veronába, Ez lesz a szín, utunk ide vezet. Vak gyűlölettel harcoltak hiába, S polgárvér fertezett polgárkezet. Vad ágyékukból két baljós szerelmes Rossz csillagok világán fakadott, És a szülők, hogy gyermekük is elvesz, Elföldelik az ősi haragot. (Előhang) (Fordította: Kosztolányi Dezső) Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life; Whose misadventured piteous overthrows Do with their death bury their parents’ strife. (Prologue)
A két viszálykodó veronai család gyermekei között szövődött végzetes szerelem történetéről szóló Rómeó és Júlia William Shakespeare egyik legismertebb és legtöbbet játszott korai tragédiája. A művet valószínűleg 1595-ben mutatták be először. A viszály és szerelem históriájából azóta számos opera, táncjáték, színpadi és filmes adaptáció készült. A legismertebb balett verziót a csodagyereknek számító Szergej Prokofjev (1891-1953) szerezte. A színpadi bemutató előtt hangversenyen mutatta be a mű zenéjét a moszkvai közönségnek 1935-ben. Azonban a balett verziót elutasította a közönség, főleg a kísérletező zenei világa miatt. Később egyre népszerűbb lett, többek között 1962-ben John Cranko, 1965-ben pedig Kenneth MacMillan is készített hozzá koreográfiát. A Győri Balett legutóbb 2000-ben állította színpadra Rómeó és Júlia történetét, a híres amerikai művész, Robert North koreográfiájával, szintén Prokofjev drámai zenéjére. Vámos rendkívül izgalmasan meséli el a történetet, akár egy fergeteges vágómunkával készült filmet is láthatnánk a színpadon. (Stuttgarter Zeitung) Vámos György is Szergej Prokofjev zenéjében találta meg Rómeó és Júlia című balettjének a kulcsát, amelynek 1997-ben a Düsseldorfi Operaházban volt a premierje. A reneszánszból a múlt század 20-as éveibe átültetetve hozza összhangba a koreográfus a klasszikus balett hagyományait a Prokofjev-i igénnyel, hogy megmutassa a színpadon az emberi érzelmeket.
Romeo and Juliet, a story of the fatal love between the children of two families of Verona in hostility is one of William Shakespeare’s best known and most played early tragedies. The literary work was likely put on stage for the first time in 1595. Numerous operas, dance pieces, stage and film adaptations have since been created from the history of hostility and love. The composer of the best known ballet version is Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953), who was considered a wonder kid. Prokofiev came from a farmer family where he started studying music from his mother, a qualified pianist. He composed his first piece at the age of five, and wrote his first operas when he was 8 years old. He lived in London for a short time where he met Diaghilev, an outstanding Russian ballet master. He worked in Paris from 1922 and composed music for the Russian Ballet there, though he never turned his back on his home country. He wrote The Steel Step, a Bolshevik ballet on the order of Diaghilev, which won success in London as well. He dedicated his dance composition Romeo and Juliet based on Shakespeare’s tragedy to the company of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. He presented the music of the piece to the audience in Moscow before the premiere of the ballet in 1935. However, the audience disliked the ballet version, mainly because of its experimental musical world. Later it became more and more popular, John Cranko created his choreography in 1962, and Kenneth MacMillan produced another choreography in 1965. The Ballet Company of Győr last staged the story of Romeo and Juliet in 2000 with the famous American artist, Robert North’s choreography also using Prokofiev’s dramatic music. Vámos tells the story in an extraordinarily exciting manner as if we saw a film produced with a sensational editing work. (Stuttgarter Zeitung) György Vámos has found the key to the ballet piece Romeo and Juliet in Sergei Prokofiev’s music, the premier of which was held in the Düsseldorf Opera in 1997. The choreographer, having transposed the piece from The Renaissance to the 20’s of the past decade, matched the traditions of classical ballet to Prokofiev’s expectations „to show human emotions on the stage”.

Capulet – Júlia apja - szétválasztja a szerelmeseket. A koldusgyerekek teszik a dolgukat. Kilátástalanságában követi Rómeót a halálba. Időtartam: 70 perc
The plot The two family clans, the Capulets and the Montagues live in an Italian town. A long-standing hostility divides them. The love story of Rome and Juliet, the children of the two families on bad terms, is set with that background. Act One A conflict between the two clans breaks out in the street, and the intervention of a potentate over both families puts an end to it. Juliet receives her first ball apparel from her parents for the feast to be held in the Capulets’ house. Romeo, accompanied by Mercutio and Benvolio, the Montagues’ friends, decides to visit the ball in masks. They arrive in the moment when Juliet appears with Paris, who is thought to be her fiancé. As soon as Tybalt, one of the Capulets, recognizes Romeo, Mercutio and Benvolio try to reconcile the situation. Romeo and Juliet catch sight of each other and, in the very same moment, fall in love with each other. The Capulet father divides Romeo and Juliet. Juliet confesses her love for Romeo to Friar Lawrence. Romeo returns to the Capulets’ house by stealth and meets Juliet. Duration: 60 min Act Two Following the traditional procession, a colourful commotion moves in the streets. The beggar kids do their job. Juliet opens the door of her sleeping room to Romeo. When Friar Lawrence discovers her, he is obliged to give the church’s blessing to the pair and marry them. The angry Tybalt and his company are searching for Montagues in the streets. During the search, Romeo is trying to evade the conflict but Tybalt hurts Mercutio, Romeo’s best friend, who later dies. Romeo, furious from pain and anger, kills Tybalt and makes his escape. Following their first night, the lovers must leave each other. The marriage proposal of Paris brings Juliet in a hopeless situation. Her angry father finally forces her to engage him. Friar Lawrence, whom Juliet asks to help, suggests her to drink sleeping-draught, which will cause suspended animation, and he promises to involve Romeo in the plan. Juliet drinks the sleeping-draught. Friar Lawrence’s message does not reach Romeo, while he receives news about Juliet’s death. Romeo rushes to Juliet laying in the coffin and, in desperation, drinks a deadly poison. As soon as Juliet wakes up, she finds Romeo who dies before her eyes. She, in desperation, follows him into death. Duration: 70 min

udapesten született, diplomáját a Magyar Állami Balettintézetben szerezte. Ősbemutatói, estét betöltő alkotásai: Lucidor, Vörös és Fekete, Shannon Rose Egy való eset, Szentivánéji álom, Erda, Othello, A toledói zsidó lány. Kortárs zeneszerzők (Goretzki, Peteris Vasks, Erwin Schmidt) műveire is készített koreográfiákat. A Győri Balett számára átdolgozott Szentivánéji álom című balettet a társulat 2013-ban mutatta be, majd 2014-ben a 35 éves jubileumi évfordulón az est egyik darabja Vámos nagysikerű alkotása, a Carmina Burana volt.
